Further Info/Tips

There are two "tricks" that can be extremely beneficial as there is a common trend experienced by 7-Eleven App users: 1) If you receive an error processing your credit/debit card, you can purchase a 7-Eleven Gift Card in-store and apply the credits instantly onto the App. 2) You do not need to use the funds on your App to pay for the fuel, you can lock-in the price and pay via Cash or Card at the checkout saving the hassle of constantly topping up, gift cards, etc.

@StonedWizard: There is a good reason it is not in the main post.
This is the reason this thread had been going for long, and not been removed for copyright reason.
You need to use logic rather than people pointing out the obvious.

              • -5

@No ONE: @No ONE if someone aka 7-Eleven wanted to take down this thread they can, regardless if it's on the main post or not.

                • +2

@StonedWizard: Just curious, why would they not just copyright strike the infringing comments instead of the whole thread? Or is that an OzBargain decision?

                  • -5

@Freighter: @Freighter - I have no clue as to what they'd want to do, perhaps they'd want to shut the whole thread down to prevent people sharing information. If a company(7-eleven) has an issue with what's being posted in this thread, they will take action against someone, whether that's Ozbargain or the individuals in this thread. I'm sure they are aware of this thread and know people are trying to game their software. So having the content posted in this thread or on the main post, the outcome is the same.

if…7-Eleven wanted to take down this thread they can, regardless if it's on the main post or not.

No, they can't . The thread itself is not violating any rules. The comment can be easily unpublished.

So please stop making further comments. It is annoying to 831 people subscribed to this thread.

Sorry to ask, and direct me to another thread if needed.

I've got Nox running 7.1.2 Beta, got the normal 7/11 app, but still can't log in (Foxtrot error)

I tried to install/run the Python script, but honestly feel totally out of my depth even though I consider myself excellent with computer(but don't know anything about programming)

Nox used to work for me, no dramas, but I haven't had any luck last couple of months. Any suggestions/directions?

    • +1

Could be a number of things really. I gave up on Nox a while back and have had great success using the app so kindly provided earlier on this thread with a GPS location spoofer on Android. Good luck.

      • I used to do that, but it stopped working, so went to Nox which worked for ages. Which spoofer do you use? I used to use geo tag

  • Project zero broken? Did a search around Guildford and found it cheaper somewhere else.

    • +1

Actually I did notice everytime I lock in it always says guildford

      • Hmm. It picked up Granville for 140.5 for 98. 140.7 at Guildford.

That has been the case for a few hours.

        • I think it's just been updated as I'm now seeing Clyde for 95 instead of guildford

    • Well, where is it cheaper somewhere else?

Premium 95 Fuel $1,299 Per Litre

Cheaper to put printer ink in you car…

    • Locked it via the app and filled it up at West Ryde, which was $1.77 per litre… >.<

      Saved a good $13.75!

    • Didn't require a separate deal to be posted just because of a $0.002 (1/5 a cent) price drop (first drop since 31 August).

Only a few cents difference between best price in all 4 states 7/11 is located in

        Guildford now 121 for 91.
        161 in Brisbane currently

        • thanks, just in time for a refuel.

        • +2

Locked in! Now only if Guildford would run out of 91 and 95 so we can get cheap cheap 98 :)

    • -4

I am getting 133.7 for U95 at Guildford, NSW. Lock it quick!

  • +16

    Waverley gardens u98 127.9

    • Nooooo I locked in 91 earlier today

      • -1

Man, 91 is awful. At least use 95.

        • +1

My car doesn't really need 95 but it runs better on it.

Weirdly of all the 91s, it runs best on Coles express and worst on caltex and united.

        • -1

Is there any evidence for this? I have been putting u91 in my car since new and can't notice any difference in milage when using higher grades

Instead of listening to scientists, feel free to talk to your mechanic or your friends.

If 98 was the standard cars would last longer, better for the environment and better efficiency. We pay a premium for it, because we'll it's a business. I would like to know how much it actually costs for 91 v 98 to manufacture.

US are a head of us in terms of this kind of stuff. E.g TPMS is a legal requirement over there. Also early adopters of OBDII protocol. Heck, they even came up with octane.

What kind of car do you have. It's brand new?

            • @Korban Dallas: Its coming up 3yo now..2016 Mazda sp25gt.

            • @Korban Dallas:

US are a head of us in terms of this kind of stuff

              Really? According to fueleconomy.gov:

In the U.S., unleaded gasoline typically has octane ratings of 87 (regular), 88–90 (midgrade), and 91–94 (premium). Gasoline with an octane rating of 85 is available in some high-elevation areas of the U.S.

Looks like we are ahead of them :)

They also blend E10 for most fuel sold at the pump

Can ethanol boost gasoline's octane rating?
Yes. Ethanol has a much higher octane rating (about 109) than gasoline. Refiners usually blend ethanol with gasoline to help boost its octane rating—most gasoline in the U.S. contains up to 10% ethanol.

              https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/octane.shtml

              • +1

@Agret: Slightly different measures of "octane ratings" though - google MON vs RON.

I think USA uses average of both, while AU has RON only. MON is lower than RON so the octane numbers in the USA are lower for the same fuel.

      • just make another account :-)

Have been trying the ifake method on Mac to iOS but my phone doesn't seem to recognise the location :( Using the current version of iFake and 12.3.1 on iPhone X.

    • +2

I don’t believe you can get it working on iPhone. You need wither an android phone (with the mod’d app) or run nox (android emulator) on your Mac. It’s a long thread, but if you can be bothered, dig through the 87 pages and you should be able to work it out. IMHO just wait for another cheap $25-30 anroid phone to come on special, buy it & use it for locking in (it’ll pay for itself in a few fill ups)

      • Or, install Nox player then launch multi drive nox and install new version of android. Launch new instance you just created then download 7 eleven apk and install app manually. Find location then move yourself then launch 7/11 app and get locking.

  • +10

Impressed with speed of response from 7-11 customer service. Was advised their system is down so cannot process my price lock from this awesome deal (oddly, could scan and process my gift card for payment). Cashier kindly showed me how to submit review through the app and received the refund (discount + a little more) in 2 hours!

    • If you get the refund from the app do you still get to keep your fuel lock or do they cancel your lock as part of the process?

      • I thought I'd be able to keep the fuel lock but no, they've removed it from my account :(

    • Cashier kindly showed me how to submit review through the app and received the refund (discount + a little more) in 2 hours!

Can you kindly show me too how do.

      • +4

I assume it's the Missed Discount option in Settings

        • That's correct- go to settings->missed discount->take photo or upload, and send e-mail (your details are automatically generated in the mail, including your account and phone type). Really simple and efficient in my view!

    • Thanks, and I was just about to ask if anyone was getting their voucher rejected.

      Regards,

      • Some back of the envelop calculations I found fun:

Assuming the winner is on the current median income, doesn't change their lifestyle and does nothing other than pay themselves the wage they would otherwise get, if they won the total amount it would still last over 500 years!

If they paid themselves as much as the prime minister (which is admittedly low compared with say the CEO of a bank) but more than enough to live very comfortably it would last over 180 years.

It is a given that most people would make several very large purchases initially, like a house, holiday, car/s etc, but even with these purchases coming to say 10 million they could still pay themselves like the prime minister ($549,250) for over 160 years

If they spent 10 million up front and did nothing investment wise except put it in a term deposit and live off half the interest each year they would grow the principle and pay themselves a salary of 1.35 million.

This happened to me on the weekend where the system would time out trying to verify the price lock. The fuel attendant tried a few times but it wasn't working so I told him not to worry about it as it only a couple of dollars savings and the queue behind me was getting long. He also went on to say that this had been happening all day and he was getting a hard time from all the angry customers (he even said he had to pay an angry customer out of his own pocket!!!) Feel sorry for these guys.

How come the price of 95 tends to get discounted every now and then, but there's never anything on 91 being discounted?

I thought it might be if the servo runs out of 91, but I've heard there's limited margin on fuel so wouldn't they then be losing a lot of money?

    • 95 gets discounted to 91 price because they ran out of 91 fuel, and rather make a small loss rather than lose an entire customer.
98 also gets discounted to 91 price because of the same reason.
You might get an e10 price if 91 runs out? (2c?)

      explosion in Iran? when lol

  • Already seeing $1.50+ 91 fuel in Sydney.

Seems like the prices have jumped up after the Saudi oil refinery attack.

      ???
It jumped to 1.63 a few days ago then dropped to 1.53..

ACCC should check this because this particular oil was purchased at a lower price.

Every time there are price hikes due to market conditions, call ACCC?

      • Didn't know 91 was 1.63.
        I stand corrected.

        • It was even at 167.9 a few days ago.

    • +1

@DanAndrews - Sydney prices are weird as around me it’s been around $1.63 for a while, but out west the price is significantly lower. Last time there was a 40c difference.

I’ve found prices on the North Shore normally higher than elsewhere as well.

      • +1

I have noted this as well… Thanks to this amazing thread that I have been able to save quite a few $$$ getting fuel locked at lower prices. The only thing that worries me is the look on the person who is serving me on the counter. I got a $20 discount last week and they were like where did you lock that price?

    • -8

What the heck is up with mods moving this to the thread? Good fuel deals have been posted as good deals.

    • +2

I don’t think it’s that much of a deal, considering it was cheaper 3 days ago, and is much cheaper (relatively) a week ago. Unless you’re comparing to your local. Crises usually take 1-2 weeks to filter down into the price system so it’s still early.

  • +2

I don't know about you guys but with 5.7m barrels/day now offline in Saudi Arabia I'm thinking it's a good insurance policy to lock in a bunch of fuel, out of natural price cycle just in case our servos see an opportunity to do a cash grab before this would naturally flow on.

    • Australia's fuel reserves are quite low. Isn't it like 17 days or something?

      • Yeah less than 28 days I think, maybe it's 17.

        • 12 to 24 depending on type. Article above.

          • +1

@Korban Dallas: Some good indicators there that our natural price cycle is about to break. Happy to be wrong, happy to be right.

    • Probably, the Brent oil price shot up to $70/barrel but it seems to have dropped back a bit now.

      • Yeah I saw that. Not scare mongering here just putting it out there for consideration.

    • agreed. ULP91 did jump to $1.659 in melbourne yesterday but the same servos are now $1.719

      • The latest on the Saudi crisis is they expect to restore production within weeks not months so there's no real reason we should see a spike in Australia. As always, just lock in the best price to be safe.
