I wonder how much companies have to pay eBay to be a part of their coupon code sales.

    • Maybe ask Calmago who works as part of a large ebay store
From his comment here, looks like either seller fully funded or split 50/50.

    • +1

Even something is taken by the sellers, that does not mean they can raise the prices. Why then call it a sale then. It is ridicules and we should avoid such stores.

    • +5

I reckon they've just tried to hop on the eBay deal train after seeing all the big name shops getting sales and hope to suck in enough people who buy based on some perceived discount rather than the actual price.

  • Having just looked up a few of the weird stores, it looks like they are the store proprietor user names, not the stores themselves. That said, of the few I looked at, I still didn't recognise many stores from past 20% deals.

  • Starts 10AM tomorrow

Just had a quick look at some phones being sold by phoneinc_digital…. Prices are frightening.

    • +2

Their 6s plus is the same price as the 7 plus :-(
      They seem very expensive.

    Dumb question…

    10am or 10pm?

It just says "This offer commences at 10.00 (AEST)".

    • +11

"This offer commences at 10.00 (AEST) on 24 January 2017 and ends at 23.59 (AEST) "

      2359 means 11.59pm

      So 1000 would mean 10am.

      • Ah, good ol' 24hr time. Didn't think of that.

        Thanks.

I can't wait till Amazon get here in September so we don't have to fight over scraps like 20% off overpriced crap from "brito0199".

    (no offence brito)

    • +2

Amazon have been rumoured to be coming to Australia for years now so I'm not going to hold my breath but even if they do get here, what makes you think they'll be significantly more competitive?

      • +12

Because their business plan is to be significantly more competitive.

        • +10

But in reality, all they need to do is to be slightly more competitive. Compared with the bulk of Aussie retailers that's not going to be hard.

        • -4
        • +13

@newdad: I'm worried that if they open up shop here the prices will be way worse than buying from them in the US and they'll no longer allow us to buy from Amazon.com.

        • +4

@Fappo: sounds like a fair concern.
The other problem is shipping costs. Australia Post kills most purchases of low value items from domestic retailers.

        • +2

@Fappo: Yeah when netflix came it actually got worse because they then cracked down on people watching it from the US, which had a far larger library.

      • Amazon plans on rapid growth of their business instead of big profits. They planning on pricing things 30% cheaper than retailers in Australia.

    • Oh where's the link to that announcement?

    • +1

I guess I can ask around when we plan to get to Australia.

So despite the fact that there's no bargains at all and several examples of terrible pricing for this "bargain" we're at 37 votes and front page already.

We'll probably be at 350 upvotes and no bargains by midnight.

    Yay.

Searched for "micro sd card 64gb" and returned 1 result.
Seller has 92.1% Positive feedback, with the card price and postage made me speechless.

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/SanDisk-micro-SDHC-Memory-Card-Cl…

    • Well it'll be the year of the chook, can't expect the audience to have much grey matter

  • Any good micro SD cards on special as part of this promo?

    Thanks.

    • Not that I can see, but lots of overpriced furniture, rugs, homewares etc. However, with a couple of smaller IT stores thrown in, I'm wondering what the theme for the sale will be.

    • Really would you buy a sd card from any of them?
Futu, pcbyte & shopping express are the only ones I'd trust to sell me a legit sd card from ebay.

  • +2

The heck with all these private 20% deals.. I'm smelling rip off in disguise…

    • +2

100% bro they mark up the prices, and the discount dont even do shit because of this, its like they mark up the prices by 15% and then give a 20% discount.

      • +4

Up by 15% then down by 20% is an 8% saving (1.15*0.8=0.92)
Can't finding anything that good from the listed suppliers.
More like up by 25% then down by 20% for 0% saving.

  • +2

    Are there any bargains?

    • +3

Not relevant when ebay offers a code apparently….

    • +4

Its one of ozbargains biggest failures…these codes should be in the forums unless a "bargain" is posted with it. No bargin, no post!

      • -7

Just because you're lazy to find bargains created by this code doesn't mean it shouldn't be posted. Store wide discounts might not mean much.. it shouldn't attract as much positive votes if no examples are listed though if you compare to a store-wide code that has examples listed. Still doesn't warrant a negative vote unless price jacking has occurred (and you have evidence that shows this).

P.S. I haven't heard of any of the stores either nor am I using this so I'm not going to pos or neg vote this.

Its one of ozbargains biggest failures

Great. Got an improvement to suggest?
        Post here

        • +21

The entire point of the site is to post bargains so people dont have to find them themselves.

This post contains no bargains. Do you not see a problem?

Ill take your suggestion and post it in the forum…maybe no one will agree but worth a shot.

        • +1

@noise36: Yes. the entire point of the site is to post bargains for people. It could be current or in near future. I don't see any problems to post a bargain that may happen in next few days. And this could remind them to get prepare and buy what they want. This is also part of the bargain action that everyone to do.

So I cannot agree your point that "No bargain, no post".

I would only give "-ve" if the bargain doesn't give you real "bargain". For example, some shops lift up the price and provide discount code.

Welcome for any suggestions. If you think this bargain is not right for you. You can simply ignore it.

        • @noise36: Entitlement taken to a new level. If the bargain isn't served to me on a silver platter then not a bargain.
Not saying that there are any here, I haven't looked, but also doubt you have checked even a fraction of a % of what's is discounted. I have saved heaps from using codes with stuff that I were going to buy anyway that wouldn't have of it wasn't posted. I am more than happy with the Ozbargain saving people money on stuff they were going to buy as opposed to buying crap just because it's cheap.

        • @noise36:

I don't mind this as it brings it to my attention - in the forums I would never see the deal and thus might miss out.

I know the items I may want to buy from eBay, so I'm happy to do some legwork on the applicable sellers to see if the items I want can be had with the offer.

Even though no specific item is listed, I still view an offer/code like this to be a bargain as an item I've been looking at could turn out to be included in the deal and thus I've saved a % and hence scored a "bargain"

I don't expect people to trawl the eBay code and post every deal.

    • +1

looks like my neg vote was revoked

      • It shouldn't have been.

        • -1

How is asking a question, valid justification for a negative vote?
It's like a member of the jury asking:
          "Is there any evidence"?
          Votes guilty immediately

          Wtf??

        • +2

@cwongtech: A rhetorical question, because there are no bargains with this deal. You shouldnt have taken his question so literally.

        • @aja12:

          A rhetorical question

So you're saying.. a rhetorical question is great evidence to convict someone in a court situation..?
          Alright then buddy.

You shouldnt have taken his question so literally.

I'm not a mod. Just a fellow ozb user whos annoyed with the amount of unjustified negative votes.
Put some effort into it please.

        • +1

@cwongtech: lol, why do you keep comparing justification of a vote on Ozbargain to admissibility and weight of evidence in court? Are you that out of touch (rhetorical, because the answer is obvious).

        • -2

          @aja12:

lol, why do you keep comparing justification of a vote on Ozbargain to admissibility and weight of evidence in court?

Because if you don't treat every situation with the same care, then you're lazy. Just like 90% of the negative votes on this post.

          rediculous. - aja12

Sorry bud. Couldn't find that in the dictionary.

Are you that out of touch (rhetorical, because the answer is obvious).

          Oh I'm in touch ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) with you

        • +3

@cwongtech: I should take the same amount of care going to Woolworths to buy milk and bread as I would in preparing a full brief of evidence and giving evidence before a court? You're making some excellent points.

        • -1

          @aja12:

I should take the same amount of care going to Woolworths to buy milk and bread as I would in preparing a full brief of evidence and giving evidence before a court?

You should be paying with discounted egift vouchers that were paid with a credit card for points to maximise your savings, checking if you had milk and bread at home, as well as checking the use-by date on the ones in Woolies.

          You're making some excellent points.

          Why thank you!

        • @aja12:
lol, glad you've got common sense to realise it was a rhetorical question.

  • +17

I can barely restrain my indifference.

    • Sarcasm about barely restraining or is it not enough bared restrainment to manage to post about said indifference?

      • Because these are 28 vendors I have never heard of.

  • -1

    ozdiscountcodes.com.au apparently.

  • +3

I think ebay has assimilated OzBargain.

  • +16

Frontpage deal yet no one can find any real bargain. Shows you the heard mentality without doing own due diligence

    • +10

      And herd mentality too :-)

      • +5

        • Man, that always happens to me, two. I can't edit my typos and I look like an iddiot.

        • +1

          @mgowen: I was right! :)

        • @eug:

What the!? LOL! How did you edit after I already replied? OzBargain has never allowed that as far as I know…

        • @mgowen: Once the comments have nested a few times and stops nesting, it becomes a reply to the message above (in this case, the one by IMBI3). If you read this before your 1 hour edit window is up, you'll be able to edit it. :)

    • +3

If you look at the rest of the front page posts, none have negs. This 'deal' has 6 negs already. That should be enough of a warning sign that not all that glitters is gold.

      • It's sitting at 20+ neg's now.

  • +4

As per this post, none of these are a bargain. Neg from me!
