Pretty good deal for Stanley Socket & Spanner Set - 1/4"/1/2"/3/8" Drive, 140 Piece
It was originally $235.00 then reduced to $135.00 and now $108.00 after coupon and includes free delivery
    http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/Product/Stanley-Socket-Span…

    • +1

Do I need another socket set ?
Must resist…… but the price is soon good.

      • +1

        i caved… have separate 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2" sets but convinced myself i needed all 3 in 1…

    • +1

The wrenches included are only imperial…

I wish there was a decent metric socket set with 6 point sockets…

      • Excuse my ignorance but does this include standard drill bits?

      • That sucks.. I would have thought everything would be in metric & imperial….

  • Can I use gift card with this deal?

    • +1

I did last time during click frenzy 25%
Paid with egift cards (available via rewardgateway & blatchys blues)

This may not be quite the deal I had hoped for.
Seems they are between catalogues, looks like not too much already discounted, so not much opportunity for a triple discount (sale price + code + gift card)

    • +2

If you have multiple gift cards you have to do separate transactions which annoyed me a few weeks ago because I doubled up on postage.

  • Any examples of bargains? (Genuinely curious, I've been visiting SuperCheap almost as much as the supermarket lately!)

  • I've been watching a couple of items the last couple of weeks waiting for something like this.
One has magically gone off sale and is now more than double in price was $70 on sale, now $150.
And the other item has vanished off their site entirely.

I wonder if they will magically reappear and be back on 'sale' tomorrow?

    • Funny with a recent big sale, all of the stereo head units were conveniently not available. Actually was convenient in the end when it worked out far cheaper for a Sony on special at JB.

  • Hi guys,

I purchased some items within the past 2 weeks that were non sale.

Want to confirm whether I get a 20% credit from this deal.

    • I think it only applies to catalogue sale items. Ie. If you bought a bucket for 2$ and next week its advertised for 1.50 you get 50c back. But since this is a sitewide/online only.. i dont think it applies.
Otherwise theyd be refunding every order 20% back…

    • you probably would if you are a super cheap member and it was an online purchase (its part of their T&Cs for the membership)

      • what if it was not an online purchase but in store

        • Sorry..Im not sure in that case

        • +2

As long as you scanned your sca card at checkout you'll get it…Cos I did (for purchases before a storewide sale) Even got it for an eBay order..So go figure? Lol

Edit: I'm not sure if it applies for purchases where you have to enter a code though..

        • @KupoHo: I'm wondering how I can use my sca card if I buy on eBay store?
Bought a polisher on eBay and picked up in store, but they didn't ask for my sca card.

        • @leoh:

I didn't do anything to link them…I think the store itself musta manually done something for me when they reviewed my click and collect and it was the same details? Was a nice surprise when the item went down in price the day after I bought on eBay.

        • @leoh: There's no way to use your SCA card on ebay unfortunately. When picking up at front counter they will just ask to check ID and get signature from you and that's it.

  • +1

    Is battery cheap through them?

    • +3

Even with 20% I found Costco to be approx 50% cheaper than SCA with my recent battery purchase

      • +1

completely agree! I found Costco to be the cheapest option with really nice batteries (exide), buying the battery is worth membership on its own, for missus' focus costs only $99 while in supercheap auto similar one costs around $185…

  • I just bought some stuff yesterday, so this came a day late. At least the store gave me 10% off for stuffing me around. Good old buyer's remorse for not waiting!

  • Seems to apply to parts guide purchases as well, however be careful as PG can be overpriced compared to competitors even when accounting for free shipping and 20% off.

  • +1

Got this, was already reduced half price, plus the 20% discount code worked on top, total was $39.20 plus delivery.

    http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/Product/SCA-Microfibre-Towe…

$5.00 for a 4 pack of some good microfiber cloths. Great for drying the car. +20% off makes it $4.00!!

I found after a basic wash, I go for a quick spin around the block (most of the water comes off the car), then use a cheap spray detailer (something like turtlewax brand is $10 for a 750 ml bottle - lasts for at least 15 washes), and I dry with these cloths.

Great end result. People always ask me if I spend hours washing/what products I use to wash/polish… but really it's this simple.

    • +2

      Get a Waffle Cloth.
I didn't believe the person who told me, but you never have to wring it out, and it dries 10X faster than a normal micro or chamois.

      • If you go for a drive and a quick spin around the block, you never have to wring out these cloths.

I've now updated to the 'bowdens own big green sucker'.. probably the best drying cloth ever. But the combo above works just as well, but once a cloth is saturated, just use another one :)

        • +5

I'd be a bit weary of doing that. You might get small particles/dirt that will cling to the wet car, then dry on the paint, which you are then rubbing around with the cloth afterwards resulting in micro marring. If you have polished/sealed your paint and the water beads, then the best way to finish off is to use the flooding technique (as opposed to a 'spray') which will get the water to roll off the paint. There should only be a bit of water left which you can take off with a waffle weave microfibre towel.

        • @eciuj: Precisely. But if you polish regularly too, it will fill the scratches.

Defeats the purpose of the drive though.

Maintaining a silicone coat will protect the existing polished surface a little.

So the best thing is a quick wipe to dry the surfaces, then the 'detail spray' or a wax.

But make no mistake, the white-pointer (oz sun) destroys everything in the end. Polish is the only protection your paint, and you have.

        • @eciuj:

Ah I didn't realise. I have a silver car, so scratches don't show up easily. Still so much to learn I suppose.

        • +1

          @khonfahm:

I have a black car which I bought new and am very careful with my washing (use pressure washer/foam lance, 2 bucket method, and waffle weave cloth). One day I noticed a sudden increase in micro marring, and when I though back it coincided with me using a blower to blow the water away before using the waffle weave. I think I must have blown dust onto the paint before wiping it down, which caused the marring. I haven't used the blower to dry the car again.

        • @eciuj: Ah good ol' black cars…

          I used to have one! : https://www.dropbox.com/s/f1caiqb6twsyan4/DSC05308.jpg?dl=0

      • +1

+1 to the waffle cloth. Been using it for years and it's much better than a chamois

    • I've tried quick spin after wash.
Unfortunately found some water spots on the car.

      • You have to dry it after that with a cloth. It just makes it a lot easier to dry when there is less water. (but people above advised to not do that)

  • The JW speaker LED kits are good value at 159.20 inc the discount, far cheaper then everywhere else.

    • Check that the product you buy is ADR approved.

      • They are under 2200LM so they are compliant.

        • Says "Not approved with ADR"

    • as a driver of a small car, I must say LED headlights often suck balls. a pox on those that would install them outside of guidelines. had a huge SUV with high beam LEDs riding my arse the other day so I put my silver sunshade up behind me..

(normally it's worst when being passed and it blinds the side mirrors/blindspots.. it's like gandalf is coming up behind me or something)

  • Use this with the custom made-to-fit seat covers.
While the tool is custom, it still ends up in your 'cart' (last time I used it)

  • is the site being ozbargained? sooo slow

  • So, buying online for delivery and the price of the item changes depending on my postcode? Surely they're all sent from the same warehouse?

What is/was the free shipping cutoff? (was there free shipping in the past?)

  • Any opinions on the ToolPro petrol pressure washer for ~$309?
For that price it seems cheaper than renting after only 2 or 3 uses.

  • Supercheap website are doing this jacking up price practice during the sale.
This http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/Product/Meguiar-s-Quik-Wax-… use to be $24.95 normal price, now they jack it up to $26.29.

    • +1

      Shows 24.99 for me.

      • They just put the price back..

        • Actually guys, Price show $24.99, when you Select a store for pickup, the price goes up to $26.29, if someone could try it out…

  • Can anyone suggest a leather care product for my new Hyundais leather seats? their beige.

Have no clue and the forums spoke about a product that's suited to older vehicles

    • autoglym leather cleaner and lotion are quite good. use it for sofa and car

    • Boden's Own Leather Care or Turtle

    • +2

Is the leather perforated? If so you want to avoid any cream based cleaners/conditioners. You will quickly regret it

Ive been keeping an eye out for a motorcycle lift and turns out this deal stacks with a current sale:
    http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/Product/Motorcycle-Hydrauli…
    from $599 to $359.20 delivered.

    • +1

That's a huge discount from their rrp, but do you know how much these go for elsewhere?

      • I haven't seen them under $400 excluding delivery before. I believe Malz used to have them for this cheap back in the day. A recent Ebay 20% off sale had them around $400 but they had ridiculous delivery prices ($250 for me in WA).

    • Or save $359.20 by bending over or kneeling down?

      • +1

I will pay that, if you are only working on your own bike and it has a centre stand fair enough, but if you are working on bikes all the time I would rather pay $350 than have a bad back

  • Can't imagine that SCA would do an online-only sale without following up with an in store sale as well (just a hunch).

    • Ah yes, good point ;-) Let's see.

      • +1

they have an Australia Day sale every year, so I guess there will..

        • And whaddaya know… they did.

Good work, sniffin' those dirty corporate reuses out of the shadows into the cold hard light of OzB

  • hey guys, is it ok to buy a car battery and leave it in the boot until the other one dies? mine is definitely on the way out but dont want to remove it whilst there is still life and i guess there is no way of knowing EXACTLY how long it has until it dies…just want to be prepared

    • storing it yourself is the same as them storing it on the shelf I would assume. If you can preempt the need for a replacement then I dont see why not..

    • All batteries will lose charge over time. I had one sitting for 6 months disconnected still had power but needed a charge.

They will slowly lose charge however not as quick as some might think.

    • it is not safe to do that, they release gases that are flammable. that's why if you move your battery to the boot it has to be vented outside the car.

    • +3

If you know the old battery is dying then buy a new battery and use it immediately. Don't waste your time on a battery that could fail at the most inconvenient time. I don't see the logic of using a failing battery

      • pretty much this, most auto elecs/wreckers will give you $10 for an old battery

        • does this include motorcycle batteries?

        • @montorola:

most likely, best to call before as some don't do it. Could be a Victorian thing lol

        • @Lenny Pepperidge:

Either way it's okay, my dead battery is taking up shelf space anyway, would be glad to get rid of it!

    • +1

The hotter the environment, the faster it will go flat. Also, it is full of acid, so you would need a secure battery box / tape up the holes). If you leave it uncharged for over a month the battery will start to die. It wont produce gas unless being charged (by car or charger), but either way, I wouldn't be keeping a spare in the car unless it has a charging system.

You can check it's life with a multi meter after leaving it sit over night. Once it gets below 12.2v or under 10.5v cranking it's not a good sign. Lastly, try and see if you can get a battery from Big W (just needs to fit in your battery bay, height and width, with the terminals in the right orientation). A commodore / Falcon battery is usually the cheapest and I saw them at $65 last time I was there.

Or… If you google how to read a battery code stamp for manufacturing date. Go down to a local wrecker and grab the newest battery you can find with water still in it. I got mine for $10 8 years ago, still going strong. Just grabbed another for the missus the other day for $15.

    • This is a new level of tight that you are even thinking of this

  • Cheers.

  • Is it just me or the website currently doesn't let you use the 20% code? there's no option or coupon bar for me to put the code GET20?? is anyone else having this issue?

    • Worked a few hours ago for me on my iPhone no worries

      • it works on my mobile but not on the laptop

  • +1

SCA have been jacking their prices up. Unless you bought early this morning I don't think it's worth it. I've revoked my vote.

  • what does a 2 day service time mean? i have a friend with the entertainment book, if i bought a gift card now at 10% off would it not arrive until 2 days away?

  • Just purchased custom dash protector in Parts Guide and code worked. Price was the same over the past week. Pretty happy.

  • Has anyone tried beaded seat covers?

  • Code still works fyi
