Telstra Business Mobile - BONUS 1 GB of Data a Month for iPhone 4 or 3GS, HTC Desire, Nokia N97

540

One of the best value iPhone 4 plans in my opinion - $400 of credit and 1.2GB of data on Telstra's $49 Business Cap plan: http://www.telstrabusiness.com/business/portal/online/site/p…

On the $49 cap, upfront cost is $149 for iPhone 4 16GB and $299 for iPhone 4 32GB.

//

1 GB of bonus data is also available with the:

• iPhone 3GS 8GB
• HTC Desire
• Nokia n97 Mini

on a $49 Business Mobile Cap plan and above, or a $45 Business Mobile PLUS plan and above for 24 months.

//

You'll need an ABN to sign up to Telstra's business plans. They also require a "Letter of Authorisation" on your company's letterhead if you are a first-time business customer.

And before people neg this for being another iPhone 4 post, please note that this bonus data is for non-Apple smartphones too (see list above). And it's not their normal pricing either — this is a special, limited time offer and the bonus data is only included if you sign up before 31 August 2010. :)

  • Can I port to this plan from family and friend plan?

    • Is that with Telstra? You probably can switch over to these business plans (if you have an ABN), but you'll only get the 3 months free access if you're porting from a non-Telstra carrier. :)

  • Well done jump22, but please note that this is for ABN holders only!

    • Yup, and you'll also need a "Letter of Authorisation" on your company's letterhead — a letter that states you are authorised to sign up to these plans on behalf of your company. :)

      • DELETE - tired eyes seeing things.

        • Not kidding about the need for the "Letter of Authorisation", hehe. :P

I neglected to read the sign-up requirements for new business accounts when I rushed off to Telstra's midnight launch — Optus and Vodafone previously only required the ABN from me, so I assumed it was the same with Telstra. At first they weren't going to give me the iPhone 4 without one of these letters, but in the end they allowed me to type up the letter using Word on one of the store computers. :)

      • Sorry deleted the above post coz i thought I was seeing things, then I realised that you added that to your post after I pointed it out. For those of you dying to know what i had written, It was along the lines of:

"haha very funny :P It's just that I have had to produce my ABN for past T Business deals hence I pointed it out."

^coz i thought he was being sarcastic about the letter, which I have never been asked for. Must be a new thing.

  • this works out to 1178 over 24 months. optus business 59 works out to be 1239 inc 2 months free access and has free voicemail, 2gb internet and $550 worth of calls.

Optus is only $50 more, but has significantly slower 3G. Also their product page doesn't show the call rates so unable to ascertain how much the $550 is really worth.

    • +2

Just checked the call rates: Optus Business 59 is 90c for each minute block (35c flagfall), whereas Telstra $49 Business cap is 40c per 30 seconds (37c flagfall) — which basically means Optus' "$550" not a whole lot more than Telstra's "$400".

One big difference, though, is that Optus offers unlimited calls to Optus mobiles and "selected" fixed lines on this plan — this might be very attractive to some. Personally I prefer having Telstra's better coverage and significantly faster 3G speeds, but some requirements might be different. :)

      • Thanks for that - just as I thought, not really that much more value. Hmm that free optus to optus bonus is pretty good as it is 24x7 and includes voice as well as video calls? It's like their old yes time, but all day not just from 8 - 12pm.

      • Telstra bills per second, not per 30 sec block

  • In the page mentioned here

    http://www.telstrabusiness.com/business/portal/online/site/p…

"iPhone 4 is not available from all Telstra stores."

  • Good job on the twist that the deal is not for iphoney only :)

  • +1

to get the port in credit… just swap you number over to optus sim only $5 plan (no contract, no minimum spend apart from $5!) and then back to Telstra! Certainly a bit of mucking around but you get a fair bit of $$ for it!

    • or even a $2 virgin prepaid sim… even easier as you dont have to sign up for a plan with optus.

  • Does anyone know if there are free calls etc between mobiles on the same account? My dad (currently with optus) wants a new iphone (3, not 4) and wants to swap to Telstra. My mum also wants to swap to telstra (but has a phone she's happy with). I think the $49 cap will work for dad, but mum is currently only on the $19 cap from optus (need to check what she's actually spending, it's probably more). Just wondering if they sign up to Telstra, are there any advantages of being on the same account? And is there a lower cap at all for the business caps/regular caps, with internet access?

    • Sure thing - it'll be perfect for them bobsi18

I just read this on the page listed:
"PLUS Free intra-account voice calls in Australia
National voice calls made to eligible Telstra Business mobiles on the same account are FREE - no timed charge, no call connection charge"

      http://www.telstrabusiness.com/business/portal/online/site/p…

      • thanks for that greenhornet, will have to get them down there and sign up…

EDIT: hmm, appears that $49 cap is the lowest "official" cap plan, although there is talk of a $29 "unofficial" cap. Am hoping that I'll be able to get the $29 cap next week when I wander in…

  • Stupid question re: ABN

They are free to register. Is this all that is required for a Telstra business plan? Or is there more to it?

What is this letter of authorisation? Can I just write one myself?

  • yeah doing this myself cannot wait, never thought id be seeing the day where Telstra offers good value….welcome to 2010 Telstra we've been waiting for you :)

  • I think this next site might have been listed yesterday.. not sure..
    http://exchange.telstra.com.au/?p=5900

Just thought it would go well in this post as well, for those that want to compare the Consumer and business plans. (The business plans kick a$$ with the bonus 1Gb! - but the consumer Bonus sign up doesn't expire until 1Nov as opposed to 31Aug for the Buniness))

Update: In the past few hours (after I posted the deal), Telstra have very sneakily changed the 3 months free access offer for ports by limiting it to Mobile PLUS plans only. When these updated plans were announced on this webpage yesterday, there was no asterisk and statement saying "Available on Mobile PLUS only", nor did it mention this in the fine print. So if you happened to sign up before they modified the page today, you might be able to get 3 months free access for cap plans too if you can produce a copy of the old webpage. (The T-Life rep actually printed out that webpage and affixed it to my contract.)

Even without the free access credit on the cap plans, this is still a great offer — just not as great as when I posted the deal.

    • Yeah I noticed they did that…bastards. Im still going to sign up but that 3 months would have been nice.

    • +1

      No longer compelling IMHO
Is it now just +1GB/month over a standard cap?

    • That's pretty disappointing that it's on on the Plus plans but not the Caps… also, it says "when you stay connected for 24 months". Does that mean you receive this credit at the very end of your contract? If so, it's not such a great deal anyway. When I signed up to 3 I got 3 months or so off the front.

Still with the JBs voucher (assuming that applies?) this still works out not much more than buying it outright and frankly I'd rather have Telstra's network than 3's, particularly with 1.2GB of NextG data.

Anyone know what the story is with unlocking this phone at the end of your contract or for a fee or something?

    • I was about to sign up one. With no 3 months free… Then, No!

  • I've been trying to get this bonus since this morning. The shop signed me wasn't aware of it, customer help says we don't have the code go to a store!

Does anyone know the code to be applied for this bonus?

  • +2

    careful of this condition:

"The bonus data allowance will only apply for the 24 month contract term. Customers will need to contact Telstra at the conclusion of their contract to cancel the bonus data allowance or they will be charged."

i can see people at the end of the contract racking up some nasty data charges. whats the excess data rate at telstra? can't seem to find it on their website (surprise surprise).

    • On WP I was reading $100 bought 400MB. The good thing is however is that (apparently) your cap credit can be applied against data overages.

    • I don't know many people that end up keeping their phones after two years. Let along batteries that can last that long!

But well pointed out all the same :)

    • I imagine data allowance and excess data usage are 2 different things. If you don't cancel the bonus data after 2 years you will be charged Telstra's going rate for 1GB? Probably less than what 1GB costs at today's prices.

  • I signed up to this in the morning at Chadstone, VIC (I gave up the previous night as the queue was too long).

The guy logged into the ABN search (http://www.abr.business.gov.au) with my ABN number and it matched all my name/details, no company letterhead required.

  • Do they give you the iPhone box opened or sealed — considering selling the iPhone.

    • Sealed, I told them not to open it I'd handle it all. It's locked to Telstra obviously.

  • Why oh why won't Telstra include international calls/sms as part of the cap? Whyyyyyyyyyyy :( It's the only reason that's stopping me from signing up with them!

  • Just signed up, thanks! Typing on my brand new iPhone 4.
    Mmm 1.2gb data!

    • I just signed up too, with a HTC desire. Now I just have to remember to cancel the data pack in 2 years time… hopefully something better comes along then.
      (and not a day before!)

    • Why don't you positive this deal if you've signed up…..

      • -1

Yeah sorry too bust playing with new iphone

  • How come no one's mentioned the $149 up front cost?Or am I missing something here?

    • -2

      Pfft.
      It's nothing.

      • …right this is OZBARGAIN y'know 150 means sumthing to most people…

    • I mentioned the upfront costs in the original post, but I had to delete the section mentioning it after Telstra sneakily modified the offer (see my other comment above). Previously if you were porting to a business cap plan you were entitled to three months free access ($49 x 3 months = $147, which basically takes care of the upfront cost for the 16GB iPhone 4)! Anyway, it's definitely a significant change, so I've added the upfront costs to the post. :)

      • Yep that's telstra for you lol

  • +1

Thats rather unfortunate, its effectively $55/mth for the ip4. Was a pretty stunning deal before.

  • -1

Vodafone and 3 have the iphone 4 32GB for $10/month on the $49 cap with 1.5GB/month(24 month contract) and you don't have to have an ABN. I realize telstra have better coverage, but I wouldn't call this a bargain.

    • well this deal isn't only for the iphone 4. The HTC Desire is $0 on the $49 cap with 1.2GB/month, plus telstra's larger/faster network.

      • Yea true, I heard I never been with telstra so i don't know how much better their network is. Bit of a pain to get an ABN and a Letter of Authorisation” on your company’s letterhead.

        • I just had to give them my ABN… I guess my details must have matched up.

        • "I never been with telstra"

If you do, the faster 3G speeds will astound you.

    • Absolutely brilliant bargain for people like me who really have to go with telstra! 1gb extra a month is normally $29, so $696 worth of Data on Telstra is quite brilliant.

  • If anyone needs some evidence that Telstra modified the 3 months free access offer, someone on Whirlpool posted this screenshot of the web site as it appeared before midday yesterday (note no asterisk limiting the offer to Mobile PLUS plans): http://img.whirltools.com/i/49654727387300149413.png

  • Do you qualify for the $10 discount for having a internet and home phone bundle with telstra on this plan? Effectively making it $39?
-Your Bundle and Mobile Combo Reward
Add an eligible Telstra post-paid mobile plan (minimum $30 per month) to your bundle and get $10 off the monthly Mobile Plan access fee. Plus FREE Family Calls1 where the cost of standard national voice calls between up to five fixed or mobile services on your account is included

  • Just incase anybody is interested, you can get 6GB on the iPhone for $39.50 on top of the $49 cap for a total of $78.50 per month, seems like a good deal if you plan to tether quite a lot!

    Source: http://apcmag.com/iphone-4-telstra-bumping-plans-to-6gb-if-y…

    • The 50% off data packs is only available on consumer plans, unfortunately:

"The bad news is that this 50% off data pack prices offer is not available to people who signed up for a business plan. However, Telstra says it will consider requests to change from a business plan to a consumer plan on a case by case basis if customers ask at a T-Life store. If you are planning to sign up for a new iPhone, make sure you take a consumer plan, rather than a business plan, in order to qualify for the 50% off data packs offer."

Might be worth switching to a consumer plan though if you're planning on tethering, though. :)
