Cool. Any links for someone who doesn't know Russian?

        • this is the best review i can find so far, but i'm trying to apply for a review sample and give it by one of our Australians friend to make a review.

        • @MiniInTheBox: i think, it requires gateway?

        • -1

@lostinsydney: i will check it asap

        • @lostinsydney: sir, yes. it reguires gateway. i will update this.

        • +2

@MiniInTheBox: I've reviewed Xiaomi's other smart home products so let me know if you're interested in me reviewing it as I've already got the gateway, etc.

        • @Darkscythe: thanks for your passion, i will consider it.

        • @Darkscythe: what devices do.you recommend?

        • @yogo: I really like Xiaomi's home automation setup (though some notifications are in Chinese which makes it difficult). In terms of universal remotes, I highly recommend the Logitech Smart Control set. Best setup I've had to date as I can control all my Home Theatre components as well as my smart lighting, etc via IFTTT.

Were there specific product categories you were looking for?

        • @Darkscythe: hi sir, do you mind contact me by email or skype? supplier might provide the review sample now, so maybe we can discuss the detail

Its a mind control unit. Use it on the wife and kids to maintain harmony. Great price. Very effective. I do have some concerns about security, though, as the missus has started singing in Chinese while we're having sex.

        kinky !

I bought one about 5 months ago. You need the Xiaomi gateway to do anything with it.

I mostly use it to control the light levels, I set it up so when the cube is twisted it dims/brightens the Xiaomi smart lights. I have also used it to trick my nieces into thinking I have a dog locked in a secret basement since I assigned turning it upside down to a barking dog sound from the gateway. So it is handy but only if you want to control a Xiaomi Smart Device. But in theory you could use it as a universal remote if you have the Xiaomi Universal IR Remote Controller.

  • I'm reading through the web page and I still dont really understand what its for ?

    • you move it, and it does stuff for you!

  • The CUBE thing - possibly device for controlling (talking to) the Xiaomi home automation equipment (Cameras / Lights / Sensors etc)

  • Hey here's a cool device that connects to all your other devices around the home, and definitely doesn't record all your data and activity and send it back to mainland China! Why bother sending agents to capitalist countries to collect data and track it's citizens, when you can get them to do it all themselves and they'll even pay for the privilege!

Would you prefer to have Chine security agencies or NSA 5 Eyes monitoring you? Actually if they want it NSA already have access so …

At this point in time there is more likelihood of my data being abused by Google, Apple, Facebook, Uber, etc. than a company in China.

This Xiaomi Companion Cube will accompany you through the test chamber. Please take care of it. The Enrichment Center reminds you that the Xiaomi Companion Cube will never threaten to stab you and, in fact, cannot speak.

In the event that the Xiaomi Companion Cube does speak, the Enrichment Center urges you to disregard its advice.

    Heads-up about purchasing from LightInTheBox:

1, Shipping is very slow. I bought my rodmi 2s on 15 Jan, their tracking advised the item left China on 19 Jan but I have not received the item yet.
2, I was unable to unsubscribed their newsletter. I had to filter their email as spam eventually.

To be fair, Chinese new year slows everything to a crawl.

      • That's probably right. However, since the item left China on 19 Jan, I assume it would not be affected by the CNY. Here is partial tracking result

I've had my Mi Cube control er for about 10 months. It's OK, I don't use it that much, preferring to use the standard Mi Smart switch instead.

This is a Zigbee based switch (thus requires the gateway) with a built in accelerometer. By moving it, flipping it, shaking it, you can trigger 1 of 7 of the programmable switch settings to control lights and power sockets.

The biggest issue is remembering which of the 7 different movements does what.

    • Couldn't you do all that with a phone app then?

Motorola uses such actions to turn on the torch and camera. Which is handy on a locked phone, but hard to see the point on a remote control.

      • Yes, the external switches just replicate what you can do on the phone. But you don't need to look at a switch to turn something on and off as you do with a phone screen.

        • I mean, would it be possible for a phone app to let you control your appliances using movements of the phone, instead of the cube?
          Might need a rooted phone?

        • @manic:

          Ok….with you now.

Yes indeed, you could use your phones accelerometer with suitable software. At the moment there is noting that supports this.
