FYI, it does come with the pen. I've bought this from them before.

  • All the Surface Pro I've been buying for my company have a pen with them, I think they are standard as there's a slot inside the box.

    • +3

M3 version Pro 4 does NOT include the Pen which the price tag from $899, other version/model(i5/i7) does come with Pen

      • +2

A specific model number of the m3 was not supplied with pen (in recent sales), other m3 came with pen.

Good price but I'm waiting for a Surface Pro 5. Hopefully next month. (Expecting Surface Pro 4 to drop further in price as well.)

    • +1

      Yup. Patience…

I'm hoping for thunderbolt 3 with external GPU support and type C charging (I'd also love a discrete GTX1050ti, but that seems a bit of a stretch). Let's see what MS has in store

      • That would be the dream.

      • +1

external GPU support would make sense but for some reason I doubt this will happen

I just hope they can at least double battery life

    • +2

What will the surface pro 5 have that the four doesn't though. 7th Gen chips are like 0.05% better than 6th gen. They could change things for sure and the surface book could get a better GPU. But I don't feel it's likely the pro will be much better if at all.

      • Thunderbolt 3 is on my wishlist. Kind of future proofing the device for a while with that as this will be the standard over the next few years. Allows 40Gbps vs USB 3.1 speeds of 10GBps. Can output displays, charge devices, external GPU, all from just 1 port.

It feels so strange that something made by Microsoft has actually become an object of desire. Decent deal though.

    • +5

Indeed. Since surface pro 2 for me.
Enjoying my surface pro 3 still.

Are there any good deals on the keyboard?

    So is it 4 Core?

    • +1

2 physical with hyperthreading, so will show up as 4 CPUs in Task Manager

  • +3

I love my Surface Pro 3, has been a rock solid performer since day one and still looks new.
Would love to get a Surface Studio next, even if I have to import one :)

    • Dell have a monitor coming out which is similar to the studio. Was shown off at CES a few months ago. Unlike the studio it isn't a PC which means cheaper and better if you already own a powerful PC.

How does this or is this comparable (for travel purposes) to the Dell XPS 13 deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/293377
with similar pricing, would you prefer a laptop or tablet? (since this doesnt include keyboad)

    • +4

Depends. I have this same one, same configuration and the battery is not close to the quoted 7 hours. Normally I get around 5 hrs with light web browsing.
Also its not that lapable for me, quite awkward to use on plane.
I would still pick sp4 over dell xps as editing documents using one note with the pen is superb

    • +3

For travel purposes, the Dell XPS 13 far outweighs anything imo. In fact, I'd say it's the go to laptop for portability. Factor in that this doesn't include a keyboard, and the Dell is a clear winner for me.

The only reason why you would go for a Surface pro is the fact that it's a tablet as well as the ability to use a pen. Sure there are other things (higher res etc.), but for everything else including battery life, it's the XPS 13 as your portable machine.

FYI I have a Surface Book and a Lenovo Miix 700 (which is a Surface Pro clone). As thanghuu said - tablets like that is not that lapable.

Do they send you a proper tax invoice? I.e. not just an ebay or paypal receipt?

    • +4

Proper tax invoice of the original amount (before ebay 20% off). Good enough for TRS.

  • Can anyone help suggest a cheaperalternative for me?? I don't need the pen but need a windows touch screen tablet with higher specs

    • Get the M3 version

      • I prefer at least i5. Happy to go with other brands.

        • go for a microsoft surface pro 3 from amazon, pretty sure an i5 with 128GB go for 500usd

the performance and ergonomics are almost identical despite being a 4th gen CPU, only lagging behind slightly

          (not sure about warranty)

    • As I mentioned I've the Lenovo Miix, which I'm happy with a secondary machine / tablet. Otherwise the Lenovo Yoga series is quite good, depending on your price range.

For me it's worth spending the extra on a Surface of an XPS13 though, but that's just me.

    • Maybe check the Asus transformer pro 3 for a cheaper option. Battery life not as good though

  • Pretty good deal if you are in the market for one. Better than the 15% education discount and better than the current 15% off plus a free case.

  • ive had more than enough bad experiences with touchscreens on tablets. from scrolling become double taps to them not responding at all. i wonder if this has any of these problems.

  • Hmmmm not sure whether to bite the bullet now or wait (and hope) prices drop for i5 8GB once SP5 gets released.

  • Thanks OP! Bought one + keyboard. Just in time for TRS!
