Wow, that's a hell of a deal! I'm tempted to pick up a third just for the UHD blu ray capacity.

    • MS are really smashing Sony the last few months :)

Shame about the rest of the generation but :(

      • Not sure if I would call going into damage control this late in the consoles life cycle, then making a just-as-ugly box that looks like a cheap ISP provided router "smashing Sony".

I feel bad for everyone that bought the console prior to the S, it was a gimped gpu from the start and now they get to miss out on the performance they should have had, while they get railroaded into making new hardware purchases due to planned obsolescence.

Not that Sony are much better but at least they have committed that games will be made with the original ps4 hardware in mind so that no one misses out. Nintendo are just slowly digging their own grave with mediocre libraries and an os that windows 98 puts to shame speed wise, that OS made me hate turning it on before I gave up and sold it.

        • Just FYI, the games for project Scorpio will work on the xbox one.

        • +1

          @imurgod:

My issue is more the hardware in the Xbox One S is more substantial than the original xbox one and runs some games better and will undoubtedly multiply as more games are developed. So the suckers that bought the console before the S will get less performance vs people that paid less for the new model.

So many multiplat game on xbox one's first version ran at less than 1920x1080 and often at 900p

          http://au.ign.com/wikis/xbox-one/PS4_vs._Xbox_One_Native_Res…

        • +2

@gore: no, the hardware is the same and the games run the same. The only difference is it runs some of them with HDR which, admittedly, is far better more impressive than higher resolution if your TV has HDR.

So 900P in HDR, for example, looks better than 1080P without. Also, you can't see any difference between 900 and 1080 under normal circumstances (i.e. On a TV in your living/bedroom).

Them there's waiting for the S. The suckers who bought before it have enjoyed the system from the beginning.

Technology is like that. The "suckers" who've bought the S or the PS Pro or even the commodore 64 haven't waited for the far superior Scorpio.

For that matter, people who bought a TV in 1975 didn't wait for 4K TV's… It's ridiculous.

        • @imurgod:

          I'm getting that from here:

          http://www.polygon.com/2016/6/13/11927732/xbox-one-s-perform…

"According to Fergusson, the Xbox One S has additional raw GPU and CPU power compared to the Xbox One, and The Coalition's engineers have been able to take advantage of that to reduce the frequency of frame rate or resolution penalties in more demanding sections of the game."

        • @gore: cool. The hardware is the same though. Just tweaked. Either way, it's a good time to be alive if you're a gamer!

        • +2

Did you know that the Xbox One had more powerful hardware than the Xbox 360?

And the Xbox 360 had improvements over the old Xbox Arcade, etc?

And the Xbox Arcade had improvements over the original Xbox?

          Go figure.

        • @imurgod: you're not getting it - the hardware in the S is clocked FASTER, so even if it is the identical silicon (which essentially it isn't. it was shrunk, thus outputs less heat which allows it to be sped up to run faster) - it runs faster in the S than it does in the original XBOX ONE. That is why games DO run faster on the S, than on the original.

      • I don't think they're smashing anything except the prices. The Xbox still has dismal exclusives compared to some big ones like Uncharted, The Last of Us, inFamous, R&C, that new Spider Man game Insomniac is working on, Gran Turismo, Bloodborne.

Xbox has Forza, Halo, Killer Instinct, Crackdown, Sunset Overdrive, Gears of War.

I have both and only got the PS4 recently, had the Xbox One since a few weeks after release. The PS4 just seems better, better menus, better games. The only downside is the controller, the Xbox One controller is nice and battery life is great. Also, the online features between each, I don't know about, since I don't play consoles online.

        • +4

Multiplayer on Xbox absolutely decimates PSN, which has already had 3 leaks and hacks in the last 2 years, Add to the insult expensive PSN multiplayer fees per year vs Microsoft Xbox Live, I have a PS4 but as a base standalone unit collecting dust, the Xbox One was not gimped in any way, the GPU in the xbox One S was overclocked (please educate yourself before talking nonsense) so it could perform HDR rendering and 4K upscaling, also remembering there were hardware changes (HDMI 2.0) and 60 Hz Support, so clearly the hardware on the older Xbox One wasn't gimped just not capable of more via firmware, hence the minor hardware upgrade

Until PSN reduces their horrid pricing, Xbox Live is whats keeping me loyal to the Xbox Ecosystem not to mention cross gaming capabilities with my PC when I buy a digital download through the Xbox Store ( 2 platforms for the price of 1)

Further to this adding a decent range of Xbox 360 backwards compatible titles is also a big win, sony burnt that bridge when they stuffed the PS3 compatibility by removing it completely

I find the Sony controller a little nicer and then Menu / Ecosystem slightly less jittery than the Microsoft "Computer" based menus from Windows 10 (Tiles / Metro) but all in all, my experience with both consoles has always left me to paying for Gold on Xbox rather than PSN on the Sony, I just can't justify buying a $100 game and then expecting to pay a fortune to access multiplayer

Live is around 40 per year and sometimes under 80 for 2 years, PSN from memory is at least 70 per year on special and at least 100 retail off the shelf

Each to their own but I tend to find a better experience on Xbox for many titles and its my console of choice

Of course everyone forgets the way Sony handled backwards compatiblity and still acts as if nothing happened, unfortunately when people have no idea about hardware / how things work they tend to talk trash

        • -1

@shawncro 222: fanboys.. I'm the total opposite.. my xbox one literally has sat collecting dust since July 2016 due to the majority of games running either slower or at a lower resolution than the PS4 and the lack of interesting console exclusives. The only exclusive (and even then because it was cross platform) game I was interested in was Recore - which turned out to be uninteresting when it was released.

XBOX One backwards compatibility has held my interest in that I can finally go back and play some of the games I bought on xbox 360 and never played.

I have no idea what you're smoking in regards to 'PSN horrid pricing' as PSN and XBOX Gold membership for a year is roughly the same cost (PSN is AUD $10 cheaper) - even if you do the cheap overseas membership hunt.

Ahh you need to CHECK YOUR FACTS - you state LIVE is $40 a year and PSN is $100 a year - total bullshit. LIVE is $79.95 RRP a year and PSN is $69.96 a year. Of course both can be found for about $50 on sale.

You give an example of not wanting to pay a fortune to multiplayer game on PS4, but in the same sentence you say you pay for Gold membership.. for multiplayer gaming. Uh what?

If the majority of your mates have xbox and that is where your multiplayer gaming is, then that is understandable and go enjoy.

Personally I hate the tiled menu of XBOX One / Windows 8 with a passion. For me the PS4 menu system is intuitive and easy to use, hell even my 5 year old nephew picked it up incredibly easily the first time he used it.

      • -8

MS have been closing their studios and cancelling games, they've been detrimental to the gaming industry.
There's no reason to buy an Xbox One over a PS4 because all of the "exclusives" are coming to Windows, and the hardware is weak.
UHD Blu Rays are a waste of money compared to streaming. $45 per movie? Forget it.

        • +8

What? You are just making things up now. Your comment isn't helpful to those considering a purchase.

I don't understand why fan boys do this.

Xbox is going from strength to strength.

          Anyone considering this purchase:
          1. Better, cheaper, more reliable, far more secure online experience (Sony has leaked personal details numerous times now)
          2. Better free games every month
          3. Backwards compatible
          4. Far more comfortable controller
          5. You can stream to your pc (i.e. You can play your xbox on your pc)
          6. Cross play (games you buy on xbox, you also get the pc version for free)

To be honest there isn't much that separates the Ps4 and the xbox one as most titles a cross platform but backward compatibility is a big plus given the price of the outstanding 360 game library and then there's the consistently better free games each month.

        • -3

          @imurgod: ironically, you're also fanboying:

PS4 has remote play on PC.
Some titles are cross play with Vita (system is pretty much dead, so this might be useless but useful for Vita owners)
Controller being better is pure opinion. I like the Xbox One controller more because it feels solid and has better battery life. But I know some people prefer the PS4.

I'll agree with you on the free monthly games and backwards compatibility. Take PSNow however you want, I feel it's overpriced, but can be found on sale, if latency isn't an issue, it seems kind of cool.

I personally feel that the PS4 has better AAA exclusives. Studios like Naughty Dog, Insomniac, Polyphony ship consistently great games and have for many years. I know Insomniac isn't owned by Sony, but the majority of their work is for Sony consoles. This is anecdotal, buyers should be researching exclusives themselves.

I agree on PSN being a rip off. I guess the great thing is most PS4 exclusives that interest me offer great single player experiences. So I don't even have PSN, nor do I intend to.

        • +1

@no not me: not fanboying, just stating fact. For me, x1 exclusives are better. Purely horizon 3 alone is worth it.

That said, you've pretty much agreed with me about everything bar exclusives and that's fine because it's where it matters and as you said (and I agree), it's anecdotal.

I think that the controller is a foregone conclusion though, as it's pretty much unanimous but I suppose if you had malformed hands it might feel better or if you loved cramps.

I wasn't aware of cross play and yep, vita is dead but one point I forgot is that you can simply plug a usb drive onto an xbox one for more storage, you can't currently do that on Ps4. This is a big difference as storage is key for a system like this.

In the end, people will make up their own minds but at least let's be honest and give them the correct info.

        • @imurgod:

Correct currently you can't add external storage to a PS4 but in the next firmware for PS4 (out soon) you can add external storage

        • @carpo31:
For those trying to decide, do you know when the new firmware update is due for PS4?

Xbox One added it in the June 2014 update.

        • @imurgod:
I really really wanted to buy an Xbox one s during the $250 Xmas sales but jrpg s are non existent on this console even if they're niche in the West, Horizon zero dawn is also out tomorrow too.

I tried to convince myself to get it as a media player but I never use disks cause of all the online streaming… Only thing that might push me to get it is steam/pc game streaming but it's still not officially supported and the steam box is $40.

        • @Zeral: you're 100% correct. I can't stand jrpgs myself and I found too many Japanese games on the Ps4 and no good racing games (at the time).

I do wish The Last of Us was cross platform though, it's super impressive.

Goes to show its horses for courses.

Given media players are cheap, I wouldn't bother unless you want UHD DVD in which case it's the cheapest option I know of (Ps4, Ps4 pro and xbox one - regular version) don't have the ability to play them.

        • +1

          @imurgod:
its not just rpgs though, all jp developer, missing out on probably like 60 games if you include horizon and last of us too, persona 5 next month!

        • @Zeral: yeah, I know. Not a fan of those Japanese games. Way too weird for me.

        • -1

@imurgod: I don't understand why fan boys do this.

FACTS follow, fanboys get ready to howl and have your poop ready like monkeys.

          Anyone considering this purchase:

          1. Better, cheaper, more reliable, far more secure online experience (Sony has leaked personal details numerous times now)

          Better - subjective
Cheaper - $399 RRP for both consoles, watch out for bundled sales to buy cheaper
More Reliable - again subjective, I have both consoles over 2 years and not had problems with either
Far more secure experience - BOTH LIVE and PSN have had leaks, BOTH have 2 factor authentication for more security.
          2011 leak info - http://www.gmanetwork.com/news/story/237987/hashtag/xbox-liv…
          2014 leak info - http://www.welivesecurity.com/2014/12/28/amazon-xbox-live-ps…

          1. Better free games every month

Again, subjective. At least with XBOX Live Gold you get to keep the XBOX 360 games permanently, but you RENT the XBOX ONE games the same as you RENT the PS4 games.

          1. Backwards compatible

+1 from me, at least I have the opportunity to play all those xbox 360 games I bought and never played.

          1. Far more comfortable controller

Again that subjective word. Personally I prefer the PS4 controller over the xbox one controller.

          1. You can stream to your pc (i.e. You can play your xbox on your pc)

You can do that on you PS4, PS3 and VITA/PSTV and stream to your PC / Mac - https://remoteplay.dl.playstation.net/remoteplay/lang/en/ind…

          1. Cross play (games you buy on xbox, you also get the pc version for free)

list of all Cross play games, current and announced:

          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Xbox_Live_games_on_Win…

Complicated, this one is. But to be frank - if you're buying a title which runs at 30 FPS at 900p resolution on console, but also runs at 60FPS at 1080p on a decent PC - why would you play it on the console?

So you right with one thing at least - there isn't much that separates the PS4 and XBOX ONE. XBOX 360 backwards compatibility is definately a factor though, IF you have an XBOX 360 library that you want to revisit / play for the first time.

As for consitently better free (RENTED!!) games each month? Again HUGELY subjective, best to do some research and judge which games you like the best:

That playing field will be leveled tomorrow, when firmware v4.50 is released on PS4 - you can then plug an external USB 3.0 drive in and then store / play games direct from the USB drive.

I upgraded my 500GB HDD in my PS4 to a 2TB the week I bought it, knowing I would fill it with games (and it was cheaper to buy a 2TB external drive and remove the drive and then fit that drive INSIDE the PS4 than it was to buy a 1TB PS4).

2 years on and there is still about 400GB free space.. I haven't downloaded every game from PSN+ membership as yet as things like NBA2K16 don't interest me that much.

I just received my copy of Horizon Zero Dawn so will be installing that tonight.

So yes, let's be honest and give people correct info.

  • These will probably go quick, might get one before work on Wed :)

  • Dam that's cheap

  • Good price

  • Would buy if it was minecraft skinned, I got excited for a moment.

  • Ayyy that's what I've been waiting for!
Not sure which one I'll grab as I have both Minecraft and Battlefield 1 already.

  • I've got $30 for a copy of BFOne!

    • key or physical gamE?

    • Ill sell mine, pm me

      • Got one an hour ago, cheers though

  • can you sell the game? i know its download copy but is the key worth anything?

    • -1

Yeah you can sell it. For whatever someone will buy it for.

    • You can sell it for around $35-50ish on Ebay

    • Yes about 40-50 at the moment. (

    • +1

Watch out for chargebacks/PayPal claims from unscrupulous buyers as others have found out

If I were you I would sell it for cash if you can.

  • +1

Argh I just bought one at Big W this week!!

  • Is 500gb enough? Can these be expanded?

    • +3

Yeah for sure. Just plug in a USB hard drive!

I have all my Xbox One games on a 2tb portable drive. That way when I get my XBox One S I can just move the drive across.

    • +1

I have a 5Tb external hard drive connected to my xbox :P

      • +10

I've got what ever you say, plus 1!

      • I remember trying to expand my 360 storage to a 1tb drive, but Microsoft only recognised 32gb because it was an external drive. I'm glad that they're allowing expansion now from other non-Microsoft branded HDDs

        • -2

What are you even talking about?

        • @KLoNe: The 360 didn't let you use bigger than a 32gb USB drive to expand the storage. You had to buy their expensive branded hard drives to get bigger than 32gb.

        • -2

          @theguyrules:
I think you mean 2TB but if not, being wrong is ok too.

"You’ll have to reformat the USB flash drive to make the folder larger, or format the drive to the maximum size of 2 TB. For more information about formatting your USB flash drive, see Using USB flash drives with Xbox 360."

          http://support.xbox.com/en-AU/xbox-360/accessories/usb-flash…

        • +1

@KLoNe: FYI, that was only added less than 2 years ago to the 360.
Notice that WinstonWithAY and I were both talking in the past tense?
Before the update in May 2015, you could only use up to 32gb.

No one likes a smart-ass mate.

  • could i lay-buy one of these?

    • Yes. No rain checks

  • +2

I'm sure it's just a coincidence that the best pricing since Christmas coincides with the Nintendo Switch launch. ;)

  • +4

Nice deal. I got the EB deal before Xmas. Sold the two games and movie all up the console was only $200 after I sold the games and movie.

  • +8

I really wish there was a ps4 slim bundle at this price 😑

  • bookmarked…

  • Any reason ps4 pro is so expensive compared to the XboxOS?

    • PS4 pro is more powerful than other consoles. More aimed at 4k gaming experience and better resolution at 1080p.

      • +3

Better resolution at <insert resolution>??? Maybe you mean better frame rate, shading, higher AA etc?

        • +1

Better Image Quality i'm sure he meant.

        • @KLoNe:

I'm hoping it will force Scorpio to at least launch on time if not early. I'll then wait a year for prices to come down.

        • @syousef:

Well in all honesty, that's the ONLY reason I can think of for M$ to drop the prices of the XBoneS so much. These things are getting crazy cheap. Gotta get rid of stock before Holiday 17 new console launch.

        • I think he means that at 1080p the pro is going to actually be downsampling 1440p+ to 1080, so at 1080p it will actually look better than native 1080p.

    • +2

Neither can play games at pure 4k. With upscaling they run at 4k. Like 1080p.

    • They don't have to try as hard to win back market share because they made less mistakes.

  • Good deal

  • Is this really with buying and the fun.
I am thinking between PS4 and xbox one s

    • +1

Look at each console exclusive and see which one is better for you, in my situation i play forza every day so ps4 is big no no. Also, xbox live is cheaper than psn(Assuming you will be buying it online).

    • Why not both?

  • So when is scorpio coming out?

    • +1

They said by the end of this year on e3
But then again who knows :/

    • +4

however if you have 4k tv (which more than LIKELY you do) and factor in a 4k blu-ray player the Xbox One S takes the cake…

    • +2

Please explain? I don't care about graphics, exclusives or the name of a console. Main reason I choose Xbox over ps is cos of the controller

    • +2

PS4 was $299 at Christmas. Is that a poor console too?

  • -8

Still too pricey for a Netflix box :p
    PS4 ftw!!!

    • +5

Xbox S can play 4k blurays.
Xbox can play videos straight off my portable hard rive, while ps4 tells me I have to format it.

      • Not sure now a days. But Xbox live has less noobs compared to PSN too ;)

    • +1

I just got the One S from Big W just for the 4K.

XBox One S = 4K disc player and also 4K Netflix to 4K TV and Reciever

PS4 = no 1080p disc player and only 1080p Netflix to 4K TV and Receiver.

      • +1

Ummm PS4 plays blu-rays (1080P discs) and at least the Pro supports 4K Netflix (not sure about regular)

        • ummm… yeah… the ps4 does not play blu-ray movies… or any dvd movie for that matter. need a ps3 for that… ?

        • +1

@Well Wasted: PS4 DOES play Blu Rays and DVD's. Not sure where you are getting your info from, but you are absolutely 100% wrong.

        • +1

          @Poimandres:

Sorry about the typo. I was saying things one way then changed it and didn't double check the final.

          It was

"PS4 = no 4K disc player" but I changed it to what was supposed to be…. only 1080p disc player.

        • +1

@Elyxar: No problem! Lack of 4K disc playback in the Pro especially is a puzzling omission frankly.

        • @Poimandres: why…? when i put a dvd movie into my ps4… does it say unable to read format. i end up using the xbone to watch the movie…

  • Will jb-hifi be price matching?

    • Most of them will start bs you and saying we dont price match bundles.

  • +5

Microsoft really has been ticking all the right boxes lately. Backwards compatibility means I can play my Xbox 360 games on the Xbox One. And Play Anywhere is a really welcoming feature that lets me play Microsoft first-party games (which usually are the good ones anyway) on my PC and Xbox One with only one single purchase. And to cap it off, they have some damn fine looking limited edition controllers too, I love the Shadow series.

This is a fantastic price if you're on the fence about getting one.

    • The price is great, but let's not kid ourselves… it's cheap because they have a new machine coming out this year, and the PS4 is beating the XB1 at a 2:1 ratio. That said, this is truly a great price even if you are primarily buying for UHD playback.

Microsoft stuffed up when they where saying games you buy where going to be linked to one console.

Have the console online when ever you wanted to play it so no game sharing bad mistake on Microsofts part to do it then they changed there mind which was to late.

I'm sure Sony where thinking in the same direction but let Microsoft do the first move and realised bad move that's why they got rid of it on a day one update secretly.

I there way I'm glad I grabbed the Xbox because they came a
Long with there games with gold and backwards compatibility
Can see a bright future when the scorpion comes out :)

    • And to cap it off, they have some damn fine looking limited edition controllers too, I love the Shadow series.(imgur.com)

What a waste of my time to click that link.

That is just a stock standard controller. Do you really get excited about a paint finish that will get scratched during use?

Expect JB and others with similar deals soon.

Be warned - as a bluray player it's not the best. Pretty awesome for UHD bluray though.

    • Not great for blu-ray? Why is that?

      • Not sure on the "S" model, but I have had some issues with my Xbox one playing certain blu ray discs (brand new & unscratched)which play fine in my old PS3.

        • Sooo…. you don't actually have the Xbox One S, the console in this deal?
My Xbox 360 'has issues' with playing BluRays too ;).

  • I'm new to gaming.

I bought PS4 slim 500g + Controller Just week at big w for 359. Is this abetter deal? I have a 4k tv but i dont watch 4k movies. Does xbox one s do 4k gaming?

Basically reasons not to return ps4 and get this?

    Thanks

    • PS4 is more powerful for games. Slightly better looking on PS4, but nothing dramatic.

Yet charges a fortune for PSN
Horrible leaks of personal data at least once a year and overall multiplayer experience sucks

Keep the "system wars" stuff out of it….

In fact, the RRP on PSN for a year is $10 cheaper than Xbox Live so this is plainly uninformed. You could argue that there are better deals for Xbox Live memberships, or better monthly games, but the facts speak for themselves:

          Xbox LIVE 12 months = $79 https://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msaus/en_AU/list/Xbox-L…
          PS+ 12 months = $69 https://store.playstation.com/#!/en-au/playstation-plus-memb…

        • @Poimandres:

Leaking personal data is nothing about console wars
thats just plain pathetic, your personal data is out there in text form, you keep playing that Sony trumpet
further more Xbox 360 games are now on the Xbox One, once again another FEATURE Sony removed from the PS3

Microsoft has had live hacked maybe once or twice in the 10 + years ive been on the platform

Sorry to inform you but I paid 70 for 2 years of Xbox Live recently, so your links aren't of interest

Moot point, Nothing about being a fanboy, PSN sucks plain and simple and for the small amount of exclusives to PS4 I just can't be bothered going to Pay to Play on it
