[Price Error] Mac Pro at Qantas Store for 93K points, or 5K points + $520

Moved to Forum: Original Link

A friend brought this to my attention on Sunday morning, but you can get the last generation Mac Pro for 93,000 points (using barometer for 4230 points for $25 Myer gift card, that's only about $549. If you use the Points + Pay slider to reduce the points to 5,000, you only have to pay $520. Not sure if it's a mistake or just clearance, but I ordered one Sunday. Hasn't shipped yet, but should in the next day or so.

Price error (moved to forums): Emails are now coming through confirming the price error. As compensation Qantas are providing 2000 points and a 20% discount code for those who unsuccessfully ordered.

    • lolwut did I just read?

    • +1

      nah

    • i'm obviously kidding, off to spend my 2000 points now!

  • If the company that processes the payment already got the funds they must be the biggest winner here. Interests aside, the processing fees Qantas' gonna pay them must be huge.

    • Payment Express is the company you're looking for.

    Try this

    https://www.accc.gov.au/contact-us/contact-the-accc/report-a…

They should honor the transactions. This will do a lot of damage to their branding.

    • +9

      No, no it won't.

    • Nope, the terms of service you agree to at checkout clearly state that Qantas is able to cancel at any time.

      • +1

        that's right they do,

interesting tho that the next point is that nothing in these T&C prevents rights under ACL blah blah blah and given they canned the order after they accepted and processed (i.e. took cash and issued tax invoice) doesn't this stop them from being and to cancel (normally when buying online you place the order which can be cancelled, then after they have processed it they take cash and issue tax invoice).

no idea what I am talking about here and happy with the points.

  • So was anyone actually successful???

    • +2

      No.

  • +3

Can not argue with 2k points for essentially doing nothing. To the people saying 2k points is worth a dollar, QF points are all about accumulation, the long game and upgrading flights.

    • +2

Yes flight upgrades. No "long game" when they can devalue your points by half each year, which they are doing btw.

  • +1

I was hoping to get this Mac and upgrade it with 5x1TB SSD from previous deal :D

    • +1

Then you'd be doing something like this

      • It's like every post production edit suite I've ever seen!

Reminds me of my old desk.

  • +6

Ok, im annoyed that I missed out on a free 2000 Qantas points :(

    • You needed a minimum of 5000 points in the first place, not worth the hassle in my opinion.

      • -1

I've got 90,000 Qantas points to burn thank you very much :)

    • +1

Hopefully this should be enough to compensate your loss

  • +4

Anyone think we could call them up and maybe swap the 20% off for something else - say two complementary passes to the business lounge?

    • or status credits!

      • +5

        Or… an ELEPHANT!

  • +35

    Wow. People are so entitled.

      • +14

        you are a turd

        • +4

          Username checks out.

    • +4

Maybe people are but lets not forget we have been paying dodgy credit card processing fees etc…. (the checkout segment on 'if buses were like airlines' was excellent) from airlines for years so hard to feel sorry for them here.

  • Got the cancellation email. Was fun while it lasted. I am happy with 2000 points. I expect a few auctions on Ebay are disappearing…

  • Damn refunded!

  • -7

    DAMN!!! 2000 points only!!! WTF!!!!!

    • +1

Call them up. Ask for more?

      • -1

cost more than 2k point to do that..

  • +3

So did OP get his order?

    • +2

      Highly doubt it.

I ordered on Saturday and my order was cancelled.

  • On a side note. The money went from pending to actually taken :\

I guess they will then refund afterwards?

Has this happened to anyone else?

  • +1

My credit card is due soon so I called and asked if they could take it off the account. Call Centre confirmed to me that all orders will be canceled today and points refunded immediately. Money will take at least 3 days to come back and if charged interest we can send our bank statement and they can refund this.

    • Been a few hours and my points still have't come back.

      • They said the orders hadn't been cancelled yet.

  • I am happy to just have the free points. 2K worth about 20, not bad.

  • +10

Taking them to court and have already got in contact with Gerry to hire a team of professionals to take them down.

  • +1

i wonder how the OP went…poor guy…hope he gets it…

    • +11

The OP gets my respect for sharing the deal when he didn't need to

  • We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused and as a gesture of goodwill we will be:

  • +1

I feel this post really should be PRICE ERROR and moved to the forums. Sorry to the OP. Great 1st post!!!

  • +1

So how about the others that have listed it on ebay already? seems the listings are still going

    • +6

Don't forget the many people who put 'buy it now' auctions that were snapped up fast.

This guy had 3 of them: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/MAC-PRO-3-5Ghz-6-CORE-PROCESSOR-D…

I would like to see his pristine feedback cop a hit for pulling stuff like this.

I'd like to know for certain, but speculating that they will be hit by ebay listing fees but not final eBay/PayPal fees, as the sellers will need to refund the buyers. The sellers will also have to cop bad feedback from buyers if they decide to leave bad feedback - which can be left by buyers for refunded items.

      • +7

I HATE people who list items like this when not in stock so placed a bid myself on one. Ebays good in so far as they will charge the seller fees where there is a bid on the item and they pull it :)

        Fees

Ending an auction-style listing early once it has received a bid can lead to disappointed and frustrated buyers who may be less likely to bid on listings the next time around. For this reason, we may charge a fee if you end a listing early. This fee is equal to the final value fee you would have paid if the listing had ended on its own and sold for the highest bid received at the time you ended the listing.

We charge this fee if you cancel bids and end an auction-style listing early without a buyer.

We don't charge this fee if you end an auction-style listing early and sell to the high bidder. (In this case, normal final value fees apply.)

This fee doesn't apply to listings in eBay Motors vehicle categories or listings in Classified Ad format.

Because we understand that sometimes it may be necessary to end a listing early, we don't charge a fee for the first auction-style listing you end early (where a fee applies) per calendar year (January 1 to December 31).

        • +6

Bit of a legend for putting a bid on one of them!

Thank you for your due diligence.

        • +3

@c0balt: Strangely all his/her items are suddenly out of stock … complaint lodged with ebay as I was the high bidder ;)

    • +4

      Lol, ozbargains…

      • +5

        Must be slow news day…

        • The slowest.

        • +3

          @rollypollym: turd slow

        • +4

That's just the level of journalism we have these days. I'm surprised it took this long - a Kardashian news report would've been immediate.

        • +4

          @aragornelessar:
I bet they could of included a women on the dole from Sydney's western suburbs as someone who purchased one and wants a "fair go"

        • @tuzii: Could have

        • +1

@tuzii: they don't want to step on ACA's toes, that's their angle :-)

    • +1

      Thanks to this guy.

  • Now the Qantas Store site looks to be offline too. Must be getting hammered with all the publicity 9 News have created.

  • +1

just dreaming about this feels good

    • Must have been really short for stories if that made the cut.

  • +38

Hey All, I'm really sorry. Believe it or not, this was my first post, and I'll be sure not to make the same mistake in the future. I severely doubt they would have honoured even one of these, but if you disagree, and you ordered before I posted this, I'm genuinely sorry.

    • +7

Probably might have if you hadn't posted on here :) Should have waited until they shipped before posting but ah well it was lots of fun anyway ;)

    • Did you get a first class ticket on your way out of the Qantas building?

    • +11

I don't think you need to apologise. You didn't do anything "wrong" so to speak, but as many other people have said, if I was in your position, I would've probably waited until my order had shipped before I posted anything! I kind of feel sorry for you for that =/

    • +5

Kudos jaydisc, your heart was well and truly in it to share with the community!

    • +5

Please, do try again in future. The most epic deals on Ozbargain have been pricing errors. We all know the risks.

    • +16

You got everyone here 2000 points for free so I'd say that's a win still!

    • As the other's have said on here, you should of ordered it first, see if they would of shipped it, then order 100 more and sell it really cheap to the Ozbargain community :)

  • The professionals!

Someone call gerry for a quote!

  • For those who received the cancellation email, is the order still listed as 'in processing' in the store itself and got your points back? I've got my email, still listed as 'in processing' and none of the points been refunded.

    • +1
      • Nah just seems weird, my colleague got his points back just waiting for the 2k to turn up and the amount debited to be reversed.

        • Points reversals are usually manual by a human. They will get to you eventually.

        • +1

          @Skramit:
Yep finally cancelled and points reversed. Oh well.

      • Haha! "What was all that one in a million talk??!"

  • +1
    • +1

Paid for news service, and it's calling it a 'laptop'

  • +3

lol @ OzBargain newbies expecting this to be honoured

    • You have to be in it to have any chance of getting it honoured. Cost nothing in this case to have a bet.

      • But he said expecting.

You're not wrong (I agree with you - gotta be in it to win it), but both of your comments can still be valid. They are not mutually exclusive.

      • Costs time and money. If it was something realistic like $200 savings, sure. But $4000, dream on.

        • $10-$14 worth of QFF points for 5 minutes of work.
Plus at night, I had a very nice dream in which I got the mac pro delivered.
          Worth if to me.

  • +1

All this free marketing for Qantas and Apple is quite annoying now

    • But good for ozbargains

  • Was everyone pretty much reimbursed their FF points straight away? Mine are still missing :/

    • Mine was back in my account late yesterday.

    • Mine was reimbursed straight away and my order shows Cancelled

However, NO sign of the 2k QFF points and NO refund on my credit card either.

  • +1

You know when it's too good to be true.

  • +1

They cancelled my order quietly, without sending a email or adding 2000 points.

    • +2

At least Qantas didn't beat you up because they over sold had a pricing error like United Airlines.

      • +1

Did the copper actually hit him? All I saw was the cop pulling him out of his seat.
Cop could've asked the passengers next to him to stand up and get out of their seats temporarily, then physically remove Mr Dao

        • +1

How did his face bleed if the copper didn't hit or push him over?

Unless his tripped over trying to get away, still he'll have a quite nice payout from this - pain and suffering. Having bare stomach shown all over the world, being embarrassed and privacy exposed. The airline won't want further publicity from him.

          @malouphix:

how is the whole comment relevant to the topic discussed?
