    • Is the main thing language and power plug (between asking and getting the MDZ-16-AB model and Chinese)? or is there specs and other functionality differences?

      • Chinese version doesn't run Android TV and isn't in English.

        • ENglish aside - wouldn't the whole point of these android tv boxes be to run android tv e.g. the ecosystem for android apps etc?? What does it do otherwise? Just chinese run store apps? I ask that from a genuinely curious POV.

        • @SaberX: Main issue is most Google services don't work in China and Google won't let vendors modify it like they do with regular Android found in our phones and tablets.

Xiaomi with their MIUI fork have basically replicated the Android TV UI and loaded it with their services and apps that are popular in China. It would have a Chinese app store.

These Android TV devices are designed purely for media playback and there are a lot of apps already available.

For people who are still confused about Mi box 3, 3s and 3c:

    http://en.miui.com/thread-411990-1-1.html

  • Is this $75.33 AU accurate ?

I can only seem to get it for $80.78 ( not that its a big deal )

  • +1

No sure how but Lightinthebox are now spamming me in French.Sacrebleu!

  • Big question is off a box like this is able to play foxtel go (not foxtel play) on my tv? Foxtel go app is difficult to get it to work because it doesn't allow casting even if you try to cast whole screen of phone with a Chromecast, for example

    • +1

Can confirm you cannot. I side loaded the foxtel go app because it cannot be installed from the market and it is blocked because it detects the hdmi output of the device.

  • But in short, you can install it - just have to side load ?

If side loading works, can someone send the install files ? - [email protected]

    Just purchased one!

    • Yes you can install but it is less than useless.

Same as the freeview plus app, can be installed but opens in portrait mode and won't open any channels.

If you have an android device, install them on that. Then use app backup manager in estrongs, save to flash drive, and browse to the flash drive using estrongs on the mi box and install

      • any guide for newbies on how to install an app on say your phone, then backup onto a flash drive and load onto say a mi box?

  • Had my payment refunded from light in the box. What the?!

    • Order more than one? I'd message the rep.

      • Yeah I ordered two separately. Is that not allowed?

        • From previous deals they seem to cancel some orders when more than 1 are ordered.

        • hi dear, our system would think it's a duplicate order if you order 2 in a short time, please wait a while try a again

  • I have one of these, and have installed kodi.
What I would like to do is watch free to air TV with one, but have not yet found out a guide to do this.
Has anyone else got kodi to easily switch display FTA channels using m3u8 streams or otherwise?
    Thanks

Update: Mostly up and running now thanks to https://bitbucket.org/puffnfresh/plugin.video.freeviewfv/dow…
    cheers

    • Are you able to give us more info on the repo you linked above please?

      • Sure - (not sure if exactly right steps but something like)
        1. From Kodi File Manager Add source (where it says <none> put in https://bitbucket.org/puffnfresh/plugin.video.freeviewfv/dow…) and call it e.g. freeview
        2. Go out of file manager and into Add-ons, click on the open box in the top left, and click install from zip
        3. Once that is installed install from repo, select the freeview one and install

It doesnt seem to have the 9 network channels though

        • Thanks for the info :)

Lets hope we can access good ol' F'tel at some point in a similar fashion..

    • hey! just wondering if you can search up and access the viki app from the app play store as an option to install if you have this? Would be great if you could let me know if the app installs. I'm mainly buying the mi box for the mrs for this app haha (so she can stream her Asian drama/entertainment series)

      • Hi, I searched for viki in the playstore and it comes up with "viki:TV Dramas and movies" which can be installed, so it is available.
Update - installs without issue, watching "Surgeons" - I selected subtitles, however they did not appear for me (it may have just been this show). Video and controls appear to work fine though.

  • with coupon my total is showing as $80.78

  • Does anyone have experience with the expedited shipping with light in the box? Says 4-5 days shipping time.

Bought one for my Dad but with the slow shipping times with normal post, I opted for the expedited shipping as I want to set it up for him before they go back to the UK.

Came to $88.79 AUD after cash rewards, which is a good price if they do indeed deliver it by fast courier.

    • Lots of "expedited delivery" horror stories in this thread. Like 1 month for one of them.
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/298850?page=3#comment

      • Thanks, I'll stick with the order as I already have a Mi box, so if the shipping doesn't arrive in time I'll just give my dad my mi box and i'll take this one.

I will however contact paypal to raise a dispute for an expedited shipping refund if the box takes ages to arrive.

  • +1

Anyone had theirs shipped out yet? Mines been stuck on pending for the last couple of days.

    • +1

Just asked customer support when my "expedited shipping" Mi Box that I ordered on the 21st will ship. They responded within minutes to say it will be shipped by the 2nd of May! 10 days to ship a product is WAY too long. I won't be using them again.

      • Yeah that's pretty ordinary.

      • Given that website says the following you're within your rights to demand a refund (with them or otherwise with your card provider):

        Processing Time: 1-4 business days
Shipping Time: Express Expedited 4-5 business days

        • Still hasn't shipped. :|

        • @crc32: mine shipped today

        • @GregFiona: Mine finally did too. I wonder how long the "express shipping" will take?

edit: It's already left HK with DHL so might not take too long.

        • @crc32:

hi cr32 - can you comment on how long since this comment before it arrived? I'm wondering whether expedited shipping is worth the extra $27 or so? It's about $76 give or take without it, but jumps to just over $100 for expedited.

THe thing is I dont' want standard shipping to come 2 months later too and be useless lol, but paying extra for expedited shipping that still takes 1.5 months would be pointless too.

        • @SaberX: Should have kept you all updated. It ended up arriving in regional Queensland a very speedy 4 days later.

      • They've told me mine will be shipped on the 5th of May. I just had the standard shipping.

        • The shipping delay is as annoying as the slow shipping.

      • How much is expedited - is that express? - shipping?

  • +1

I have been thinking of picking up something like this, how is the quality of Xiaomi devices?

  • +1

ordered last Friday, and still not shipped. Anyone had theirs shipped it?

    • Also ordered on Friday, nothing as yet. I reckon it will be end of week before it is shipped.

      • Ordered last Thursday still processing.
Under My account>orders>"My order" it says: Estimated Shipping Date 1st of May

  • Thank you and purchased…

Have also done Paypal conversation rate thing… gonna check the rates from now on…

  • +1

Ordered on the 20th, hasn't been shipped yet

    • +1

      Same

  • +1

spoke to lightinthebox…. shipping no later then 05/05/2017. 11 business days after the order, the website says 1 - 4 business days processing time. They still have 6 -33 business days for shpping, won't go with these guys again for the sake of saving 10 bucks over aliexpress.

    • +5

      It's the drop shipping model:

Step 1. Advertise product in stock (even though it's not), take money
Step 2. Eventually work out how many units needed, order from distributor. Wait for delivery.
Step 3. Find cheapest possible route (from China this can be incredibly slow) then ship to consumer
      Step 4. Count profits

      • always wondered how drop shipping works. Interesting. Now for me to learn what sells haha.

p.s @reapz - I ordered the mi band fitness tracker on 10 april and yeah, same thing. shipped 24 april, finally see it in 'the country' on 10 may, surely aus post doesn't take 6 days to then sort and deliver? Maybe.. but I raised a ticket and they answered/closed it pretty much a few minutes after (lightning fast in comparison) stating it would take up to the 39 days (not 33 like yours) so I should have it by 1 June at latest.

So yeah… definitely add 10 days to process let alone ship, then up to 30-40 days after for it to arrive. I doubt anything ever arrives within 6-20 business days at the lower end lol.

  • +1

i will not buy from them again.

  • +1

Disgraceful company!! Promised after promise!! Promise me ship out 30/4 then i chased up again. Promise ship out 1/5. Now promise 5/5. If nothing happens. I will request refund via paypal!! Never happen like this banggood!! Or dx or others!!

    • +1

Further proof of the drop shipping model. They'll get one delivery from their distributor, then send out to their own customers.

  • +1

I hadn't even noticed that it has not shipped yet. It still says processing, after 11 days. They claimed a processing time of 4 days. I sent them a message saying if they don't ship within a day I will lodge a Paypal claim.

UPDATE: "We are glad to tell that your order is being packed now and will be shipped within 48 hours."
    Not sure whether to believe.

    • +1

I got the same "within 48 Hours" response. I'm not entirely confident it will be going out within 48 hours; as I would imagine they would be able to give me a specific day if they had already received stock.

    • Hi - did you do expedited shipping? Wondering how long it took from this 'shipment' date on 02 may before it arrived? Have you got it still?

Tossing up to pay the $28 for expedited shipping or not or just forget it and save the money.. but i would hate to get this 2.5 months later lol.

      • Hasn't arrived yet.
If you pay $28 for shipping, then this is no longer a good deal.

        • So you did normal shipping then? I think priority shipping comes quicker - iw as jsut curious whether yours was ordered through priority as you mentioned a processing time of 4 days (which Ithought was the express/priority time)?

        • @SaberX: No, 4 days is what their website said. It's their "processing time", meaning the time they need to get it posted. But it's all a lot of nonsense. I bought on 21 April, and they marked it as shipped on 3 May. But even that was probably a lie (because I threatened them with a Paypal claim), because the tracking shows the item wasn't even "pre-advised" until 9 May!

I will not be buying from this site again. Also because of the spam, which you receive even after unsubscribing.

  • they should be banned on OZB.

  • Code 20%TV3071 still works for Banggood. Ordered one for AUD $75.72

  • +1

    It's shipped now

    • Good on ya!, Mine still has no sign of life yet!!
As of tomorrow 5/5 I going to request refund.
We all should do this to these type of company!!
      I like banggood much better

      • This deal was technically a "pre-order".

    • What's the shipping time with these guys? Tried to cancel but they have shipped my order after i have raised a cancellation ticket…

      • I expect 3 weeks.

        • 3 weeks for it to leave China if you're lucky. ;)

  • Mine shipped yesterday too, but no tracking info yet.

  • +1

Mine shipped on 3rd May. Tracking not working. Showing up as Netherlands Post?
Estimated 10-18business is the stipulated delivery time.

    • Yep Netherlands tracking too. Haha wtf

      • Yea.. mine's not even tracking yet! Anyone's tracking working?

        • +2

Nope same story as you.. when i mouse over the track button it says tracing data available in 120 hours.. I guess that's five days from the day they changed status to "Shipped". Hoping we have shipping info by Wed.

        • +1

Looks like it's in the sorting centre now.

        • +1

          @simulacrum:
Yup, mine's showing same now. "At PostNL sorting center"
          Seriously, how slow is this!!

        • +1

          @simulacrum:
And mine is on the way to Australia.

        • +1

          @alterego13: ditto

  • Bit late to the party, but what's the boot time on these? I have a POS WDTV gen 3 and the thing takes like a minute and a half to boot, and then crashes when I browse any folders with many subfolders. Looking forward to replacing it with one of these, and selling the WDTV for a good price on Ebay.

    • "and selling the WDTV for a good price on Ebay."

      Good price for who?

      • Me. They still sell for around $70, I'll be able to effectively swap a heap of junk for a decent player.

        • $70???!!! LOL, I got mine $49 after rebate back in …2012! I never though I could sell it 5 years down the track and make money :)

  • Mine arrived just now in Brisbane after leaving on the 4th May. I ended up paying for express ($12) as I needed it fairly quickly as a gift for my Dad.

  • This deal is available again (same code and price).

    • +1

After one were you hamza? 😉

      • Not me, the rep let us know :) Forgot mod flag.

  • Has anybody that got an unit can check if you can install Google Photos on it easily? Apk sideload or Play store?

  • The power cable is fake as.

I bought one of these boxes in October last year when it came out, and it came with a nice official Xiaomi power cable plug, but the one with this is a cheapo, European plug. Obviously taken out the official power cable and swapped it with this el cheapo plug.

  • I would advise people to be cautious with lightinthebox, I purchased a xiaomi band 2 watch from them in march and it has been over 60 days and still nothing. I keep getting the same responses, it could take 30 days, then it could take 60 days (which has just passed) and now they are telling me it could take up to 2 more months for them to figure out what's happened to my parcel. Unbelievable.

    • hi dear, do you mind give me your order number? so that i can check for, when you have any question please contact me first so that i can do some help

      • I have sent you a pm.

    • Your time frame for PayPal claims or credit card chargebacks is limited - be sure to put one in before time runs out!

Why does everyone love Kodi so much when all it does is stream low quality movies? Am I missing something?

    • KODI is just one of the apps for Android TV. Netflix is popular.

    • +2

Low quality movies? It streams whatever you want, from whatever source.
