  • Nice! Now, I just have to a) wait, or b) forge my name. ;)

    From FAQ;

What size Boost am I entitled to?
If you were lucky enough to have your name as a Name of The Day,
you can get any size Boost you like (kids, medium or original!)

What type of drink am I entitled to?
Any juice, crush or smoothie on our menuboard, baby!

  • Yes, not going to happen for me.

  • damn……my name isnt there!!!

  • what happens if my name is Luke Grace? - i can't get the freebie?

    :)

    • Haha yeah… the only way I'm gonna get a freebie is if they accept middle names and a contraction of a middle name at that, even then my English middle name is a rare one.

    • +9

Let's try and be reasonable and not jump on the 'racist' bandwagon.

It doesn't take a genius to work out that Boost Juice will most likely select somewhat common names. They could use Indian names for eg. "Sukhdeep" and "Hardik" but even though those are somewhat common Indian names, I don't think it would be very inclusive for Sydneysiders in general so what would be the point?

        • +7

Wouldn't that be like me going to India and complaining when something along the lines of 'Darren' and 'Lachlan' don't get called out?

        • +17

Bit of a storm in a teacup over just a free drink, but it's possible for non-Anglo, non-Aussie-born people to have Aussie/Western names too.

I'm not white and I have a foreign last name (and a foreign middle name) but I also chose to legally change my first name to a common Western name - partly to fit in, partly to make life easier for those around me, and partly to increase my chances of scoring a free juice from Boost.

          • +2

@jenerally: Time to write a belonging essay buddy.

            • @cwongtech: Naw, I'm a happy mix of Aussie and not-Aussie. Non-Aussie friends, who all speak english as a first language. Aussie other half, who speaks (a bit, anyway!) my non-Aussie home language. Life's good! :)

    • +6

Please don't come to our beloved country only to flaunt the word "racist" at every opportunity you get.

    • +5

This comment ("racist" label) demeans situations/scenarios that are genuinely racist and to be deplored. Clearly not even all the common names are going to be picked so plenty will miss out. Be happy if you score one, indifferent if you don't (coming from someone with a non-Anglo, immigrant background).

  • +1

My name is too common >.<

It won't be up. Too much of a risk for Boost.

    • +2

      mate, or dude?

    • don't be too sure! last time around they had "matt" (my name) and "jessica" which i believe was the last time they had it up until now. those two names probably nearly sent them broke lol

  • Hi, my name is Jack Bob

    • do you know flouder?

  • -2

This campaign is stupid because my name is so rare that I find online ID's with my first name.

    Kaushik

    • +3

Just cause your name isn't common doesn't mean Boost's campaign is stupid.
      It's actually a great marketing device .
Also, be happy with a name that is special! XD

      • So…this is like a consolation prize for those who don't have special names? \o/

    • +2

Hmm, I wonder why? Is it maybe because we're in Australia and not India? Seriously, the campaign would make less sense if they chose your name because no one would have it and they'd get even more complaints.

If they had a 'last name game promo' I wouldn't expect to see my Polish last name get picked but I'm cool with that seeing as Polish isn't the Australian language. How could I blame them?

  • +1

lol ther's no way my name is gonna be there…. =(

  • All you people need to see option b. They accept library cards, et al, if you are unable to provide a drivers license or similar. Go forth and forgeth thy nameth!!

    • -3

      that would be unethical…

      • +1

Well then make it official. It's not hard to change a name. And 'assumed' names can be used for most bills, cards, etc without issue.

You just have to ask yourself: How badly do you want a free drink?

        • -4

Not enough to condemn my soul for eternity…

          • @jv: I think it's a little late to avert that one bro! Might as well sooth the fires of Hades with a free smoothie whilst you're on the way! ;)

  • +4

I hope my name, Joey Joe Joe Shabadoo, will be next

    • +10

That's the worst name I ever heard.

  • this sucks, my name won't come up.

  • +7

just get a fake hawaiian license like mclovin the organ donor

  • +1

Gah, my name never gets called up for these.

      • +6

You have to look at it both ways though, if they chose obscure names then people would complain that they are deliberately choosing names that not many people have to avoid giving out many free drinks.

        You can't win either way.

At least they run promos with free stuff like this, not many other places do.

  • Guys, i dont mind people defining a region where obscure names are derived from, but please dont use racist slang.

    • ah, that's why I put it in " ", hadn't really heard it before.

      • its ok, dont worry :)

  • hahaha this is gold.

anyhow, if on the offchance that "Winston" comes up, do you think they'd accept my name, "Wynston"?
There's a little spelling difference, but other than that it's basically the same name….

I guess I'd just have to try my luck.

    • Yes, I was wondering about variations on the name but didn't see anything eg. Sara, Meaghan for today.

      • They generally accept it if it's in the same ballpark.

        • +3

agreed, remember the place is run by 12 year old kids, they dont care that much

    • +2

No. Just another reason to curse your parents' illiteracy.

      "Bruse"

  • +1

Is it worth getting your named changed for a free Boost juice?

    Yes IMO.

  • +1

Tomorrow's names include: TONY and JULIA (31 August 2010). This was posted on the FB site.

    • -4

      Link?

    • +1

Even Tony Abbott probably wouldn't be able to get a free Boost juice tomorrow because his first name is actually 'Anthony'. ;)

      • +1

Even if he & Goolia get one, they'll only trip over themselves to share it with the Greens & Independents! :p

        • lol yeah. i'm laughing right now over all the people who thought tony and julia wouldn't suck up to those guys.

  • just so everyone knows, last time they had a rare name day for only rare and unique names!

    • They are not going to do it this year. It says so on the website.
However, specials happen on mondays and fridays.

Maniac Monday: 6 names get free boost, as opposed to 2.

Flashback Friday (replaces the "Mum was mean Mondays" you mentioned):
4 "old-school" names get free boost.

    • Mine still won't come up. My name's just that unique!
      (Mum invented mine)

  • todays a good one! the two PMS!

  • +1

This is a dumb promotion, they should use birth dates or something a little more fair!

    • +2

I think they already do give free drink on your bday. Just have to show your Vibe card and proof of DOB

    • And that's a dumb neg vote. Read the guidelines. The fact is they are giving away a free drink to anyone with this name, anyone that works in the city could easily get 5+ in one day. Considering they are using such common names, this is a enormously generous promotion.

And because there is nothing fundamently wrong with this deal, your neg vote is irrelevant.

      • -5

Well there is something fundamentally wrong with this deal, it's biased towards those who have a generic name, those of us who are of ethnic origin and who most likely dont have a generic name will not benefit from a promotion like this.

        • +2

We live in a mainly anglo-Saxon nation. What do you expect?

        • +1

So are you implying that anglo names are generic? Just because names are common, it doesn't mean they're generic. I think there is something more fundamentally wrong with your comment than this promotion. As tomsco said, what do you expect? It's Australia. It's like if I move to another country that has this promotion and start complaining because they're picking names native/common in that country. If Boost had to satisfy everyone as unrealistic as you, can you imagine the amount of names they'd have to pick? Then you'd get some guy from Kyrgyzstan complaining that Boost is biased since they didn't pick his Kyrgyz name..

          PLEASE

    • +1

your vote has been withdrawn as per guidelines - see tomsco's explanation

  • +1

what happen if my name is a combination of both? say Tonyjulia Luke? Will i get two free drinks today? :)

    • +2

They might feel sorry for you and give you a free hug ;-)

  • +1

Wednesday's Names : Hamish or Andy (first time it's not a guy/girl combi)

    • +6

      Sexists!
      Nah jokes.
What's it going to be next?
      Kath and Kim?

      • +1

You're right, it's Kath or Kim for 2 Sept

      • +1

OH MY GOD! This guy can see the future!

        • Maybe he/she is a Boost insider.

    • i actually dont know anyone who is called Andy on their ID.

      • +1

But you know someone called Hamish?

      • +1

Do they take nicknames. What if your names Andrew.. would they accept it as Andy?

  • Side Question: Does anyone remember what goes into a "Raspberry Relief"?
Boost seems to have completely dropped it off all its menus.
(It's no longer exist in their POS machines)

Edit: Figured out, it's now renamed "Janine's Fav"

  • +1

This is awesome! First time I ever heard of this promotion. I'm lucky to have at least one common name and its one of the current names in the promo! My full name is Matthew Mark Luke John. Score

    • i think your a bit late, Luke was for the 30/8

  • This sucks for those with foreign names. :(

  • we should all call our children generic names eh?

    • Are you implying that the above names are generic? Mind explaining why?

      • +2

Matthew, Mark, Luke and John are the four Gospel Evangelists. They are extremely prominent in all Christian cultures.

        • +1

And that is probably why they used them. They're common names = more people getting free Boost = more publicity for Boost. My name isn't any of the above but I kind of find it offensive to call a name generic. Generic names don't exist. Common names yes, but generic no.

          • @manbearpig:

            Generic names don’t exist.

            • John Doe
            • Jane Doe

            • The Joneses
            • Tweedledum and Tweedledee
            • Alice and Bob (and Eve)
            • Tom, Dick and Harry

to name a few. Oh, and

            • foobar

            ;-)

  • YESSSSSS!!! SCORE FOR TODAY!! =)I hope they accept KIMberley =D

  • +5

    Kim!
Bad joke ahead: so nearly all koreans can get a free drink as many do have a surname of Kim?

  • +2

Today's (03/09/2010) names are: Arthur, Margaret, Frank & Dorothy

    • -1

      Yuck :p

      • Reason for those uncommon names is, Friday's 4 names replaces what was previously known as "Mum-was-mean Monday".

    • +2

That takes care of the pensioners then.

  • Monday's Names :
Leo, Nick, Tom, Tania, Katy, Rachel

    • BOOYAH!

  • How can I find out what everyday's names are going to be? Facebook page or something?

  • Thanks guys. Now there'll be no missing out in case my name is called.

  • Never would've thought it.. but today's (10/09/10) names are:

    Winston, Bernadette, Edgar and Carol

    • It's a part of Flashback Fridays: "After the overwhelming response to Mum was Mean Monday last year, we decided to up the ante by choosing our favourite old school names! Stay tuned for 4 names each Friday that will instantly transport you to… well… sometime in the past. Maybe"

      • -2

        Chill winston.

        • -1

          Huh?
