    Before someone asks :

Existing St.George customers who currently hold an Amplify Platinum or Amplify Signature card, or who have held one in the last 12 months, are not eligible for this offer.

    • -1

But Bank of Melbourne amplify customers should still be eligible, right?

      • +1

Well your not a st George customer, so yes.

        • +17

          You're*

        • +3

I don't think it's that simple in this case - BoM is the local version of St George in Victoria (likewise for BankSA in SA) and all customer details about a BoM customer can be brought up in a St George branch. They're really the same bank.

        • Also interested if bank of melbourne card makes me ineligible

        • can also link an account from either bank to a card of the other. They are the same bank. Just different colour branding in some geographies.

        • +1

@stevtom27: I took out this card late last year on a similar deal and got the points even though i had cancelled a BOM Card about 2 months prior.

      • I got a bank of america black card, am I eligable?

    • +2

Haha literally the first thing I wondered as I canceled mine recently after getting 30k points.

  • That's a very good deal, the ongoing earn is good in the post RBA regulation world, might even worth keeping for the second year.

  • +2

Should mention that you need to keep the card for the extra 30k points otherwise its only 60k in the first year

    • Already mentioned in details.

      • +6

I think the point more is it reads like 90k in the first year with 0 annual fee like how all the other deals are worded.

        • +1

To be fair, I agree with you maybe because we're more used to seeing these sorts of deals on Ozbargain, but he does elaborate in the first line of the description and the title is "Up to".

I don't recall ever seeing a Credit Card where they explicitly state a bonus points offering in the second year so it's just a little unusual.

  • Does anyone know if a balance transfer counts as the minimum spend?

    • Eligible purchases do not include BPAY, fees, cash, cash equivalent transactions, refunds and balance transfers debited from the card account.

      • +1

$3k isn't exactly a huge spend in 3 months. You could do 1/3 or 1/2 just with groceries

        • Last year the ANZ Black required $7500 spend in 3 months to get bonus points!
Good thing they revised to $2500

    • +2

If all else fails, buy gift vouchers to everyday things like Woolies, Coles, BP Petrol etc

      • +1

Be careful! Gift voucher purchases can sometimes be classified as a cash advance!

        • +2

How would they know though? Wouldn't it just be like any other purchase you make at woolies/coles?

        • I've never had that happen to me and whenever I purchase gift vouchers it is with a credit card.

        • @montorola: Buying from a B&M store is probably a safe bet but I'd avoid buying egift cards since the transaction might be put through with a merchant category code that falls under a cash advance (the MCC is how banks know to treat non-BPay bill payments, gambling purchases etc. as cash advances)

      • +4

Just buy $3000 worth of goods on Myer website, pay via PayPal. Once goods are delivered, return to your local Myer and have it refunded onto your other account. Yes Myer refund policy states that for purchases made via PayPal, refunds can be made onto a card in the same name.

  • +1

O wow. Last years deal was only 30k points :/

    • Best strategy would be to get this card and cancel it as soon as 60k points received. Then wait for another first year fee free deal once 12 month period has lapsed.

      • How muchare these 60K points worth in actual money?

        • +1

If you sell them, which you're not supposed to do… 60,000 points is worth $600.

        • -1

Roughly $1,200 depending on how you redeem them

        • -1

          @bluedufflecoat:

If cant redeem point value in any way other than flight, i guess only beneficial for people who travel a lot especially with Quantas.

  • I'm looking to get a new credit card. What would be the best deal at the moment for the most bonus qantas points with first year no annual fee?

    • +1

This or the Anz one. But the anz one comes with 75 bonus status credits if you fly one flight within a particular time period.

      • Is there a way around the $75k minimum income threshold for the ANZ card? My income is about $10-20k less than that.

        • I think it's a bit of a hit and miss really, sometimes you get it, sometimes you don't.

        • Yup. They can be quite strict. Even with an income of >$100k, I had to send through copies of payg summaries and tax returns.

        • In addition to income I think outstanding credit cards affect it. I got rejected, ditched a few cards over the next 6 months and then got approved.

        • +1

          Get a better job

        • +2

          @suicine94: Found the Treasurer!

  • 0.75 Qantas pt per $1 is not bad. Might look at getting this card after my Westpac card gets it's bonus.

Though I though Westpac owned St George and they would approve it?

    • Yeah I hopped on the Westpac deal (since cancelled) I'm pretty sure within the last 12 months. 60k points + free first year fits the bill perfectly as usual, but given the ownership wonder if I'd get caught out on that.

Reminds me, I should request those ANZ Lounge Passes before I forget :P

    • Westpac owns St George but they operate very much as separate businesses. Westpac doesn't approve St George loans/credit cards.

  • +1

Whats an Amplify point worth in Velocity or Krisflyer points?

    • +1

0.75 velocity/Krisflyer/enrich points per 2 Amplify points from 1st Jul. 1 velocity/Krisflyer/enrich points per 2 Amplify points till 1st Jul.

      • Thanks!

So if my maths is right, $1 spend => 1.5 Amplify Points => 0.56 Velocity/Krisflyer/Enrich points

  • +1

I know that there is no minimum income requirements, but with a $15,000 minimum limit, what would the effective minimum income be.

    • +3

the live support suggested 75k min income for the Signature Card

    • Where does it mention the minimum credit limit?

      • "Compare credit cards"

      • When u go through application process it says choose limit between 15k -80k

    • +1

      Usually $75k

  • Are they changing the earn rate?

    • Yes, earn rates for the overseas spend as well as conversion of Amplify to velocity/Krisflyer/enrich points from 1st Jul.

      • No change to the $1: 0.75QFF point rate? If so, that's pretty good

        • No change to Qantas earn rate for domestic spend. Only overseas spend earn rate is changing from 1.5 qantas points to 0.75 qantas points per $1.

  • does the 3000 that you need to spent be use for overseas transaction

    • No, includes domestic and overseas

  • -4

This is a good deal, but I really think the "UP TO* 90,000 QFF POINTS" in the title (*60k first year, 30k second year) is misleading. We have to put up with that sort of false advertising from businesses every day, does it really need to be repeated on OzBargain, where we're all just looking for a good deal?

Negging this deal until the title is updated to the effect of '60k QFF points 1st year 30k 2nd year for $0 (1st year only) St George Amplify credit card - total 90k over two years' so that we know what we're looking at without having to read the fine print. I believe this is within the voting guidelines.

    • +3

I agree, it's just honestly kind of click bait when you put 90,000 QF Points in the title. The condition is that you actually hold the card for the second year and pay the annual fee for the extra 30,000 points, I'd say that's a pretty big if.

  • +2

Good deal, thanks OP, but title is misleading. It should be 60k for $0 fee first year. 30k for $279 thereafter for second year.

    • +3

      30K isn't worth the 279 fee.

      • Agree. So for card Hooper's it's really a 60k deal.

      • +3

30k is worth around $300 to sell and more to redeem on flights and you will also get another 2 x lounge passes worth roughly $100 and a CC for a whole year..

Not bad if you need or like the CC

        • -2

          Na.

  • Wow this looks like a decent card been looking for a decent rewards card on visa and with the qasure bonus points I may end up with more Qantas points than velocity points lol.

  • Actually a pretty decent deal! Thanks for sharing.
Earn rate is good (even better after the rate changes from the various banks), and the 10% 'birthday bonus' is a nice touch.

  • +1

I signed up for the NAB card in the previous deal.

Too scared to apply for another so soon.

    • Check your Equifax score

    • If it really is 140 days to go then I'll just wait it out. I try and rotate through the deals steadily instead of burning and turning every 6 months. Exception was the Westpac one since ANZ Black came along again and is just the better card day to day. I'll just keep on that for longer.

    • What's a good period to start applying for another card?

      • +1

As long as your finances are in order, when ever you want. I sign up to multiple a year, cancel when needed and your good to go.

  • Looks like a good deal. Thanks OP.

  • 3 months allowed from meeting spend criteria to credit bonus points. From the T&CS "60,000 bonus Qantas Points or Amplify Points will be credited to your points balance within 12 weeks after the spend criteria being met"

  • here we go again! thanks OP, just cancelled westpac and ANZ!

  • +3

Just want to let everyone know that this deal https://www.stgeorge.com.au/personal/credit-cards/rewards/am… cater for people with income less than $75K.
Less attractive I know but still a good deal

    • +1

I chatted with them on facebook and they told me it was minimum income of $35,000 for the platinum.

      • +1

Yes same, I got told the same thing.

Their signature card income is min. $75K

        • +1

I don't have a min income of $75k but still got approved for this card just before. Was expecting to be declined but was extremely surprised when the screen popped up to say I had been approved.

        • +1

          @adds02:

Yep, conditionally approved. They will most likely contact you for payslips to prove your earnings.

        • @teninchdk: I'm not sure they will, they said a card will be mailed out within the next 5-10 business days and have already allocated a credit limit to me. I was already a customer with St. George before I applied so I'm not sure if that assisted my case for the card. Either way I'll see what happens, while its a good deal, if I don't get it I'm not bothered.

        • @adds02:

did you receive your card yet ? I was only approved last week, but am going overseas for 4 days on Thursday - wondering if ill get it before I go or if i should organise for my mail to be held until I get back

        • @dashy1: Yeah I received it last week, I think the welcome pack came on Tuesday, and the card came on Thursday.

    • Problem is no waiver on the $99 annual fee it seems..

  • Anyone know how to get the 2 x lounge passes with anz westpac and or this one ? Do you need to ring up customer helpline?

    • ANZ you definitely have to ring the "concierge".

It wouldn't surprise me if they all start doing that (rather than sending them out to everyone) as the number of people who would go out of their way to request them would be much lower.

      • +1

Thanks although it states :: To be eligible for the two complimentary Qantas Club Lounge Invitations, you must first register your details above and then use your Altitude Black card in Australia to purchase selected Qantas products and services. Selected Qantas products and services are the following items purchased directly from Qantas: Qantas passenger flights (with a QF flight number), Qantas Frequent Flyer and Qantas Club membership joining and annual fees. Excludes Jetstar,

So this applies to the 2 x passes included with the black CC, so have to book a qantas service before getting the passes.

  • Does anyone ever continue to hold such cards after the bonus points? I mean can't possible jump on the bandwagon with every CC bonus points deal.Or can we?

    • +1

No point holding them now that they all have 12 month "cooldowns". Cancel as soon as you see the bonus points in your QFF acct. That reminds me, time to see whether the points from my ANZ have come in.

    • Not every CC bonus points deal, but you can do a lot of them.

I generally try and leave at least 2-3 months gap between applications and there are usually some pretty good offers every few months. In addition, you're not necessarily gonna qualify for every single one either.

  • So which one is better? Amplify or Qantas?

    • Definitely Qantas

      • How many amplify points for say a $100 DJs gift card?

  • how easy is approval?

  • +2

i notice bank of melbourne website doesn't have $0 first year free i wonder if thats right

  • +5

damn…..my application's been rejected, too many credit card applications for this year. sounds like i will have to be on the bench for another 5-6 months :-(

    • +1

how many is considered too many?

      • +2

4 in the last 6 months
