Haven't looked up current pricing to determine if this is a deal, but FWIW, the vac is pretty great. it crushes my Roomba (gets stuck less, cleans in an intelligent manner, has app notifications, etc. I like mine; considering another in the future.

    • zapals is slightly cheaper at $371 - either way warranty claims will likely be fun

      https://www.zapals.com/xiaomi-mijia-smart-automatic-vacuum-r…

      • +23

It would be a great deal if it was not for the shipping cost as seen below(copied and pasted from the Zapals checkout page):

Registered with tracking (5-8 business days) AU$92.63

        • haha - good point

        • +2

that's 5-8 business days, after waiting 5-8 weeks for them to actually ship it.

although it looks like you're no different. 30 biz days = 6 weeks to ship! July delivery?

      • +2

        $92 bucks shipping.

      • Is Zapals bad for claims? Have a pair of ear buds that just died from them.

        • Zapals are pretty poor for claims. They say International warranty but I've had little luck getting much help from them.

    • How big is your house? Does this clean the whole place or just a room?

      • I use mine for the primary level of the house (living area + kid bedroom.) It's mostly hardwood with carpet in bedroom. According to the app, it's cleaning 50 square meters in an average clean. We also have a dog and a lot of long hair. Pet hair has been ok; the long human hair does wrap around the brush, but that's the same with the Roomba.

    • Which roomba are you using? 880?

      • Roomba 630.

I am writing my review here for the robot and I am not in anyway recommending or objecting to this seller.

I do not have any other experience with other types of robots. This vac robot is purchased based on my positive experience with many Xiaomi products such as their powerbank and Bluetooth speakers.

I have this robot Vac for many months now. I run it every day before I leave work. It's simple to prepare for, clear every kids toys from the floor and press a button it goes sucky sucky. When I get home, I clear the bin with a vacuum cleaner it's so much easier, then detangle the hairs around the brush and wheels. It's now ready for the next day. Maintenance takes 5 minutes max depending on how much hair there is.

When removing the bin, make sure the vac is on with the white led light. So it knows you have cleared the bin. Otherwise it nags you to empty it every once a while.

This vac will do carpet rugs but not the stringy type. Short stringy 1-3cm is ok but not longer it will get caught by the spinning brush. It will also choke itself if there is a piece of kitchen towel or hand towel. No good for lightweight rugs.

It's quite powerful it pushes furniture around if it gets stuck underneath. It's very heavy too. The battery life is amazing but I don't have anything to compare with. It sucks my house 3 times and have power to spare. I don't like the noise of fan this vac produce even though it's not loud.

You don't need an app to run this vacuum. There are two buttons for operation it is very simple. It doesn't need the dock for operation. You can bring it upstairs and it will happily suck and it will try to return to where it started to find the dock. It will not fall off the staircase.

The buttons are simple. Long press to wake or sleep. Momentary press for start and stop. Press the home button to return to dock. It's that simple. Power to the dock must be off, before long press to shut down the vac.

There are many videos on YouTube, check it out.

      • +3

"press a button it goes sucky sucky" - just how I like it.

        • It doesn't just suck but it also brushes with the main brush and also sweeps with auxiliary brushes. So it's giving you a good clean if you use it the right way on the right spot.

  • +12

Yeah an upvote from me too. This is the best gadget or electronic item I have ever bought. Cleans up my 4bedroom house in 1hour 20mins .

  • Does this vacumm carpet?

    • +1

Yes, it vacuums carpet really well.

      • Does it come with any virtual walls I just have one staircase and one bathroom area for it to avoid but about 3-4 big room and hallways for it to cover including kitchen with lino so tiny food scraps etc..

        • +1

You'll need to buy them separately

        • +1

This vac uses magnetic strips you place on the floor. It looks like a super thick roll of tape. Fairly cheap, and no batteries to deal with.

FWIW, my vac doesn't fall down the stairs. The radar mapping is pretty impressive and I think it can easily detect the stairs.

    Hi Op,

Can you confirm that the app is now in English (and maybe post a couple of screen shots)

Also, when is delivery expected? are they in stock now or will buyers have to wait

    Thanks

    • +11

I have one. App is in English and works well.

      Edit
Added some screenshots from my iPhone

    • +1

The app is definitely now in English and so is the voice pack for the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum Cleaner. As this is a group deal we will be bringing in a large number of robot vacuum cleaners from China. You should receive your robotic vacuum cleaner within 30 Business Days.

      • whoa, this one speaks english? if so, that's a definitely improvement over mine. I'll have to see if you can switch this in the app or something. My chinese isn't good, so this would be awesome.

        • +2

Make sure you have the updated firmware. The app plus voices announcements will be available to you in English.

        • +1

          @chl15:

Boom - done. Thanks! So, buying from the OP or buying from somewhere else, anyone can get the English prompts. Slick!

        • @chl15: How do you 'update the firmware'?

        • @jaclarkaus:
Through the app itself on your phone.

      • +8

        30 Business Days

        You've got to be kidding

      • +8

Are you serious? 30 business day? So are you saying you don't have these in stock and you're ordering from your supplier after you receive orders?
This was never disclosed during any part of the ordering process. So why in the world are you chargin 5 bucks for priority order when you don't even have these in stock?

        • 5 bucks for priority shipping once they land in Aus.

"Those who have Priority Shipping will have their orders dispatched first."

As we are the importers, yes, we will need to receive the shipment and then post to our customers. It is expected that delivery to our customers should be completed within 30 business days from when we place the order with our supplier, we do hope to be able to have them delivered earlier but we need to allow the time for the delivery process.

It's a mother's day special but takes 30 business days…I guess you got to update the description to show Mother's Day 2018 Special.

  • +12

seeing how you have only been in business for 5 days - correct to assume this is being drop-shipped and therefore grey imports?

    • I mean, it's obviously grey becuause Xiaomi products aren't sold in Australia. Big question is how legit OP is and what the shipping times are, as this basically seems like a semi-offical group buy.

Edit: See the link chl15 mentioned. Seems to answer pretty much everything!

  • +12

For those considering the other bundled options, the extra costs:
    Virtual Wall - $13
    Maintenance Kit - $31
    Maintenance Kit Pro - $56
    Virtual Wall + Maintenance Kit - $46
Ultimate Kit (Maintenance Kit Pro + Virtual Wall) - $66

Best deal seems to be the Ultimate Kit or the Maint Kit Pro. The Worst deal seems to be the Virtual Wall + Maint kit since you are paying $46 vs $44 separated. However I can't see an option to add them separated so kinda stuck here. Maybe OP would be willing to adjust to at least match?

Quick 5min Google shows these kit prices to be quite worth while compared to individually sourced from say eBay. Whether they are actually useful, I have no information on that.

For example the Virtual Wall from Geekbuying is $12USD, the pro kit is available from China via eBay for about $38 shipped minus the second main brush.

Thought I'd post this as I was looking at it myself.

    Happy shopping!

    Edited for 1 typo

    • How do I find out what's included in each bundle?

      • I just Googled them but it has a small description in the drop down.

      • +2

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/4670301/redir

Maintenance Kit = 1 Filter, 1 Side Brush, and 1 Main Brush
Maintenance Pro = 2 Filters, 2 Side Brushes, and 2 Main Brushes
Ultimate Kit = 2 Filters, 2 Side Brushes, 2 Main Brushes, and 1 Virtual Wall

Can anyone comment on how this unit goes on timber floorboards.

Also, can it traverse up/down slight angles from one level to another or can it only over complete, flat surfaces?

    Cheers.

    • +2

Can confirm works great on timber floorboards

      • Cheers mate.

    • +1

I run mine on timber and tiled floors. Works great.

      • Cheers :)

    • +1

I have this on timber floors and it's amazing !

Robo vacs don't suck as hard as a standalone vacuum cleaner but the point is to run the robot vac every day or every second day depending on how dirty your place gets.

  • +18

It's worth noting that the ABN for this store was only registered a few days ago. It seems like it's a young guy running a small business so you may want to set your expectations accordingly. Looks effectively like a dropship operation from China but he says he's going to offer 1 year Aus warranty.

I ordered pretty early on in this group buy, so fingers crossed it's not a big scam!

    • +2

now that you have done the detective works, your finding is making me a bit uneasy to pull the trigger…..hopefully this is not one of those moments whereby you placed an order and u never hear from the seller again….

      • +1

Pay by PayPal should be ok. If it doesn't turn out at least it shouldn't be too hard to get a refund.

Every business has to start somewhere!

Once you receive your Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum Cleaner, Please take the time to pass on some positive reviews for RoboGuy.

    • checked and the guy is trading as a sole trader. Gotta give him point that he is brave enough to start a business with this type of entity.

Hey op can this be delivered to 4000 by friday for mothers day

    • +1

Highly doubt it. Order from somewhere if you want it by then.

    • In his other gtoupbuy post he says that it will take 30+days to deliver

  • i like how this is good deal and OP doesnt need to spam the forums

  • Awesome vacuum at a great price.
Hopefully the seller matches that and this is a real bargain.

    • Nice. OP should link to this!

  • I have a two story house.
Is this unit capable of two floor maps?
I let it do downstairs then take up upstairs to do tomorrow?

    • +1

Yes it is possible. It maps the floor as it cleans.

      • Thank you.
Do I need to bring the base station up and down each time or is it capable of working on a different floor without it would you know?

        • It needs somewhere to dock once it's done cleaning or if it needs to recharge the battery.
But you can keep an eye on its stats using the app.

        • @chl15:
          awesome, thank you

        • @gbh: You can use it without the dog for quite a while as the battery is good so I wouldn't worry.

        • @Deviner:

What kind of dog should I get once the battery starts to degrade?

        • +2

          @m9: Harhar :) Typing one-handed with left arm in a sling here… ;)

  • It is expected that delivery to our customers should be completed within 30 business days from when we place the order with our supplier, we do hope to be able to have them delivered earlier but we need to allow the time for the delivery process

Interesting deal value vs taking a risk as Chillemi mentioned above, also after hearing this story last week, I'll have to think twice about getting a Roomba style device: http://www.scarymommy.com/roomba-meets-pile-of-poop-jesse-ne…

    • Hahaha that is the best!

    • That was hilarious, thank you.

    • As someone who owns a dog who sometimes poops indoors. i find that hilarious. thanks for the link.

      • +5

You're a guy who poops in the house whom owns a dog?!

  • +1

Been watching the price on this one for ages. Finally pulling the trigger! :)

    • Thank you very much for your support, We look forward to having it delivered to you.

    • pew pew

  • how do these deal with rugs(shag) in the middle of rooms? can they work out its too much of an obstacle and just vac around it?

    • +1

Mine sees it as an obstacle and vacuums around it.

    • I'm also keen to know this before purchase

      • The Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum Cleaner can handle rugs fairly well, as with all robot vacuum cleaners it depends on the type of rugs. But you should not have to many issues.

        • Thanks, going to pick up an air purifier as well!

        • @gbh: can you share any reviews you have seen for the air purifier?

        • +1

          @sian72:
I have 5 of the same model they sell that I bought from gearbest.
I use it overseas cause it's very dusty and air quality isn't great during the day.

Works great, if you set it to sleep/off a certain time continuously it will remember to switch to that mode. Wish it had a schedule setting as I have to manually set back to auto or manual or on.
Is it worth it? I don't know if its just having one there makes you feel better but parents say they notice a difference.
But I did take the filter out and gave it a good blow and just seeing dust fall out makes me think its worth it, rather in the canister then inhaling it.

      • Thanks for that. I have much lower pile carpets than shown in that video so I'm pretty confident I'll be right

    • +1

I have rugs in the middle of the room and it can struggle with the edges where the tassels were cause the carpet folds, once I stuck it down no issues. If it struggles it will move to the centre of the carpet and then vacuum from that point.

Just keep in mind if your carpet is very thick or high pile it will struggle and probably get stuck.

  • Thanks OP Bought One

  • Am I being naive in wondering how these actually work?

I have a standard 3/2/2 house. Can I set one of these in the master bedroom and it will then come out of the bedroom door, go down the hallway and do the kitchen etc?

    • Yes, you can, the Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum Cleaner has one of the most advanced navigation systems found in robot vacuum cleaners so it will definitely handle this with ease.

    • Yep that's what it pretty much does.
For any bigger rooms / living room etc it will split the cleaning into sections. You can follow along with its cleaning on the app on your phone.

  • +1

How does this go with lengthy strands of human hair?

    • +2

Picks up my wife's hair pretty well.

    • +2

Mine does get stuck with lengthy hairs of my wife and daughter almost every run and I don't think there is much that can be done about it other than removing it let it go about it's work. Good thing is you do get a notification on the app when it feels it has had enough of hair!

  • -1

fk the irobot tho legit shit

    • +1

      Are u a robot?

  • ok im in the market for a robo vacumn but how does this stack up against the usual competitors? like whats the equivalent LG or Samsung or Roomba competitor?

    • It just about leaves all of them in its dust. It has more suction power than the Roomba 980, Neato Botvac Connect, and LG Homebot Square. And its navigation abilities outperforms them all.

      • +12

Really? I thought it would suck.

      • +4

It just about leaves all of them in its dust

Comparison videos don't declare the Xiaomi a clear winner at all. In fact the Dyson appears to have far better suction, and the iRobot has better rug navigation.

        • How much is the Dyson again?
