    I played a show using my Chromecast and the picture looks good. There is however no surround sound, only stereo and no subtitles. Okay for a freebee but Foxtel shouldn't expect any money out of me without a minimum of DD5.1

    • Same! Seriously they finally get the image quality right but forget about the sound. This company is doomed.

    • Yeah, I was particularly disappointed in the sound quality.

  • Another 'feature' is you can only have three registered devices on the account - annoying part of that is your phone or tablet (or whatever you use to 'cast' from) counts as one of the three, even though you may never intend to actually watch a program on it.

    So, if you use a chromecast in any room, the device you navigate from and the chromecast equal two devices. Then you only have one device to register left… such as an Xbox or PS4.

    Makes sense they do something like that to prevent sharing of accounts across multiple households, but these days three devices (given how they treat casting) isn't enough.

    I could manage with four though!

  • I have never watched GoT. Thought I would take the opportunity to catch up with the rest of the world and watching it from the start. Finding it a bit hard to get into though. Should I persist? Perhaps it's just not for me

    • I think it's one of those shows you're either into or not. I loved it from the first episode when it first aired. Never got through the first book, as I've found the show is better. If you get attached to any characters, you're likely to be in for many rude shocks, as Martin loves to spring big surprises in his stories. I'd give the first season a go, and if you find you're still not into it, then give the rest a miss. It's more of the same, but escalating in darkness from there on.

      There's a bell curve though, and you won't be able to get enough once you hit it.
      Once things start falling into place and the world starts to make sense, you will be set.

  • Have also found the quality of the service is severely lacking. The old Foxtel Play apps on our Sony smart-tv, PS3/4, Xbone etc are unreliable and poorly implemented. I don't expect Foxtel Now apps, if and when they are finally released, to be any better. The streaming service regularly cuts out and takes ages to reconnect manually. And they expect people to pay top dollar for this? Light years behind Netflix.

    On another matter, I've recently moved onto a VPN service. Even though I'm going through an Australian server, Foxtel thinks I'm overseas and not only disconnects me, but unregisters my device! Have to turn off the VPN to access Foxtel Now. Will use this 3 month trial as a freebie, but there's no way I would resubscribe. Pathetic Foxtel.

    The foxtel app on my Sammy suddenly stopped working. Not exactly sure why. Anyways found a fix thought I post it here just in case that has happened to someone else here.

    J series Samsung - Follow the below steps.

    On the remote go to Menu then System then Setup. Will ask for pin which default is 0000 then start to go through the Setup.
    When you get to the Accept Terms and Conditions stage you need to stop and enter this remote code "mute, “return”, “volume+”, “channel up”, “mute”
    A country of origin screen comes up. I selected united states and then accepted the ts and cs and finished the setup.
    Now go back to Menu and Smarthub and you select Reset the Smarthub.
    Open the smart hub and usa apps should be there.
    Last step repeat all steps above but after entering the remote code select the country of origin Australia.
    Finish setup and reset the Smarthub.
    Open the Foxtel app and re-login.

      The quality is rubbish, particularly the sound quality. Free is free, as you say, but it's barely passable for at that 'price' (borderline not worth watching such a good show at such low quality).

      I was genuinely considering keeping this service after the free trial was over, but unless they start providing better quality (unlikely) I won't be.

      • Im considering sourcing the episodes via other 'means' for a much better viewing experience. The dark scenes with Clegane were so bad.

    What a joke, and I thought I could finally watch Game of Thrones legitimately, and without needing to wait for the bluray to be released…

    I bet the streaming quality is crap too, just like Big Little Lies. How am I able to stream 4K HDR on Netflix with no buffering and yet Telstra provides such poor service? I am on superfast cable so that is definitely not the problem (200Mbps down, yes I know how lucky I am).

  • Just trying to get the Foxtel Now app going as GoT has started today. The app has crashed a total of seven times on iPad and iPhone JUST trying to log on. What an absolute joke of an app.

    • Ok I understand it's to do with the demand now that GoT is out, also after reading comments on their Facebook page. Still a spectacular cock up on a day like today. Incredible.

    Anyone know what date exactly to cancel the membership and still have access to the last month? E.g I signed up June 18th so does that mean If I cancel on August 18th I can still access the account?

  • Does anyones access switch between conten been available then locked changing on a daily basis?

    • Yep, I have noticed this as well. I can have access to all their channels and content one day but the next it is all locked. As long as we don't get charged to access the extra channels it's all good.
