  • Do they resell Optus?

    • NFI, their mobile service uses the Optus network…

  • So who are they with for NBN service?

    • +2

      AAPT

      • From whirlpool it seems as if some PoI are AAPT and some are Optus.

Unless you are somehow desperate for unlimited, I'd still got Aussie Broadband

  • -2

No contract (can presumably cancel after the free month)

And be without internet for another month 🙄

Internet service is not like mobile phones, most of the time you have to wait for a tech to visit your home and do some installation work

    • +4

If you're lucky enough to have NBN FTTP then they can simply apply the service to a different port. You've got 4 different ones and no tech is needed.

      • -2

And if your not lucky 🤔

        • +4

          *you're

        • Yeh I understand what you mean. I'm stuck with NBN HFC coming in 2019…

I wouldn't play around with connections unless you have FTTP. Most NBN (FTTP, FTTB, FTTN, FTTT) services don't require a tech visit once it's been installed the first time but it will result in some downtime unless you have FTTP.

        • @Scrooge McDuck: you are*

        • @ireadtermsofuse:

"you're" is a contraction of "you are".

        • +1

@Scrooge McDuck: it is, but cannot be used to substitute 'you are' everywhere

        • @51ngh:

          "you're" is correct here.

        • @51ngh:
          Next level grammar Nazi'ing.

          I like it.

        • @Scrooge McDuck: What made you think that?

        • @divergent:

Present tense versus past tense. Presumably they still hold the belief they held for the same reason so "makes" is correct.

        • @Scrooge McDuck: Not really. I could presume a lot of things about @51ngh's rare use of the formal words you are over the informal you're, but that doesn't imply that I'm correct in any of my presumptions. What if he or she reconsidered his or her statement immediately upon posting it and no longer thinks that way? In truth, all second-hand comments should only ever be taken in the past tense to avoid incorrect interpretation.

And don't get me started on the third person plural word they, which is widely used incorrectly to define an individual, as you have done above.

        • @Scrooge McDuck: I knew I is correct !!

        • +1

          @divergent:

Not really. I could presume a lot of things about @51ngh's rare use of the formal words you are over the informal you're, but that doesn't imply that I'm correct in any of my presumptions.

The relevant issue is that "you're" is correct in this case. The implication of "you're" being corrected to "you are" is that "you're" is incorrect, which is itself incorrect.

What if he or she reconsidered his or her statement immediately upon posting it and no longer thinks that way?

That would be against the status quo and is not supported by any evidence.

In truth, all second-hand comments should only ever be taken in the past tense to avoid incorrect interpretation.

My use of the present tense was a purposefully deliberate choice: it brings the issue at hand to the fore and fosters hope that the past may continue on to the future, thereby encouraging the other party to respond.

And don't get me started on the third person plural word they, which is widely used incorrectly to define an individual, as you have done above.

Widely and historically used by such prolific authors as Dickens, Scott, Shakespeare, Shelley and Swift. Your use of "he or she" assumes that the person to whom you are referring identifies as either male or female respectively and places the male before the female pronoun which is substantially discourageable.

Unlike other languages, English has no administrative authority. So English grammar is in flux. Further, there are multiple Englishes…

I'm on FTTN… To change providers is very easy.. And roughly 30-60 minutes of down time

Wait for internet to go down.. Just reconfigure your modem with your new login details and away you go

I switched from Aussie Broadband to Amaysim last month.. No issues, full speed all the time.

        Using AAPT according to Speedtest.net

nbn co may charge an nbn™ New Development fee of $300 depending on your address. This fee is excluded from the Promotion Benefits and, if applicable, is payable by the Eligible Customer.

    • +2

If this applies, we'll get your permission before you're charged.

  • Oh! Would be nice to try and bond this to my other 100/40 connection! How easy is it to cancel?

  • Minimum Term
The minimum term is one calendar month. Service is provided on a rolling month to month basis. You may cancel at any
time. Any payments made prior to cancellation are forfeited.

During checkout it's not quite clear if the second month is charged when the service becomes activated. With or without the code it says $0 to pay today. But when the code is put in, it says first month free $0, second month $90. When is the second month charged?

As it's prepay, and as per the conditions, would it would be necessary to cancel much before the end of the first month to avoid not getting a refund on the next month's fee?

    • +2

amaysim will activate your nbn connection free of charge ($0 standard activation fee) and to make things even easier, the cost of your plan will only be taken once your service becomes active. Moving forward, the charge for your amaysim nbn plan will be taken each month on the date your service was initially activated.

Ordered this morning, got connected about two hours ago, then bonded it together with my iiNet 100/40… Impressive :)

        • What router are you using that can bond two pppoe connections?

        • @ejayt: Thanks for that.

        • What speed are you getting with them bonded?

Cashrewards has $25 to $45 cashback on plans, do you reckon this might be more free money thru CR?

Any thoughts on getting cheap fttn modem. Hockshops or ebay maybe?

  • +1

I want 6 months free like the phone deal.

  • +1

I can't believe how expensive NBN plans are
Full fibre gigabit internet should be under $50/month & we're nowhere near those speeds yet

    • -1

And coke should be 20c a can its mainly water, which is free.

Now I hope you feel better.😀

      • The government owns coke?
        Try again

        • Partly right. The government owns the infrastructure prvate companies own the connections and the data allocation.

But its making a loss so what you want is more taxpayer funding.

And where paray tell do you want that to come from.

More Taxees? or cuts to othger services?

Maybe we can kill off the subs being made in South Australia but then would that be agreed to by the SA senators - who will prop up ANY government.

And where do you get the price range you propose? $50 gigabit fibre? that would be about ¼ what we pay now. (I would assume you also want unlimited downloads)

        • +1

          @RockyRaccoon:

And where pray tell do you want that to come from.

          More Taxes?

Yes, but only on other people. /s

        • @RockyRaccoon: I always want higher taxes on the wealthy, but that's moot.
As a fixed base cost, it's going to make a loss for ages - not sure how many years it's going to be. Of course the conservative government exercaerbated that problem with its second rate NBN.

        • @yoyomablue: >I always want higher taxes on the wealthy, but that's moot.

          Doesnt everyone,

          • unless they get wealthy themselves 💸
        • @yoyomablue:

I always want higher taxes on the wealthy,

          Who is wealthy?

          Everyone wealthier than you?

        • @RockyRaccoon: wealth is relative. Anyway can't have a functional society without a progressive tax system.
Would also help that religions are not tax free.

        • @yoyomablue: ah yes the young persons veiw of fairness, a progressive tax system, that as it gets higher then those who are affected by it work out with Tax agents how to reduce its impact.

As they say no one got filthy rich paying tax…

So really it just only hurts the middle who cant afford the tax advice, as it would cost more than they save.

So make it progressive, to a point, after that its diminishing returns…..

        • @RockyRaccoon: well, IQ & brain size peaks at age 25, after which it begins rotting…..

        • @yoyomablue: and since it doesnt mature until 25 guess only those AT exactly 25 could make intelligent decisions

        • @RockyRaccoon: well, definitely doesn't imply that old people know what 'fairness' is
But considering they are wealthier, it's no surprise they vote conservative & thanks to their technology ignorance we have a sub-standard NBN…

        • @yoyomablue: So what then is your issue? On your logic, as you get older you will get wealthier, then you will have to deal with those younger who believe that you inherit wealth or tax others, rather than do without now to get benefit later (savings)

          Welcome to evolution

    • Exetel is offering me exactly the same speeds I'm on now…for more money.

  • More about this here www.ozbargain.com.au/node/304051
I used free trail for 2 months just to feel the top speed (I was on 25/5)and there is no going back. Now with buzz telco- so far no problem.

I wouldn't go near this when you can get a great reputable and reliable company like MyNetFone for the same price ($90/month) I've been with them for years and support is australian-based and always excellent if any issues. That being said, I'm yet to have ANY NBN issues and i'm on FTTP.

    • I've had major issues on FTTP with Belong. I highly doubt Amaysim could be any worse. They were rock solid when I used them for my phone.

    • I was a MyNetFone customer for many years (VOIP). Decided to go with them for ADSL 2. They stuffed me around then for ages, claiming it was the line to my house and they'd send a tech out again and again, meaning I had to wait for weeks at a time.

After months of this garbage, they finally admitted the problem was congestion, which they knew about, saying the people they bought it from were overselling it. But they had no plan to compensate me or do anything about the congestion.

So, NO, I'd say MyNetFone is NOT someone I'd trust or recommend
