is there a minimum charge rate for the driver before earning $152?

    • I guess this is the only remaining and important question to be answered.

    • +1

is there a minimum charge rate

No, confirmed with Uber there is no minimum fare/charge rate.

  • +3

    Thanks Tightarse, Ubertight.

  • I was going to walk up to the shops to get some milk, but will get an uber now, thanks TA.

    • +1

Make sure you tell them Tightarse sent you.

      • Makes for some friendly banter :)

    • +1

Don't know why you got negged, I'm essentially thinking of doing the same thing.

    • +7

Might be better if you walk to the shops first, then catch a Uber back since you'll be carrying groceries.

      • +3

        Thats uber thinking there.

        • +3

          Just being jlogical ;)

  • +2

no deals for existing customers TA?

    • +7

      Reverse loyalty at its finest

      • +4

Uber are terrible (or should that be very good) at doing this! Never see codes for existing customers

        • I suppose it wouldn't be difficult to create a new account,

  • +3

So let's see if I understand correctly.

    • I can catch a Uber to the servo and back, get some milk. $8 to me.
    • I register and drive someone somewhere, $152 to me + whatever Uber pay for me doing the trip.

$160+ in front for doing 2 things. I've never used Uber in any capacity.

    EDIT: $164.80 total cashback.

    • +5

Step 3: Enjoy the free cash US venture capitalists are throwing at Uber.

No wonder Uber is losing billions of dollars per year. As an Uber driver there are some hoops to jump through, like a police check, so I doubt people are going to sign up just to get $152.

      • +15

(Hand up) I will! I just had to get a police check a few weeks ago for a new job, it didn't cost me a cent either and the company stuffed up and had the police check sent to me rather than themselves so it's mine to use, which I did to land myself another job in the meantime (they never gave me a start date) lol.

I'm on a real roll here.

        • Nice!

        • They do one for you and it doesn't cost you anything but you have to do it through them. I had a fresh one when signing up to deliver for UberEats and they said they had to do another one, even though it was from the same company that I had used. Takes a couple weeks to process apparently.

        • +2

          @brentsbits:

Argh that really bugs me. Just like jobs, 90% of the time they require fresh ones even if you just did one yourself yesterday. The police must be making a tidy profit on these police checks.

    • +3

Joining uber as a driver is a lot more involved. There are vehicle checks and a number of hurdles to pass, and likely extra costs to meet requirements.

    • i guess the real inconvenience is going to the Uber Centre in Concord during office hours to finalise the paperwork. Also, Uber drivers (but not UberEats) need to have their vehicles checked by Uber.

  • +2

anything for first time uber eats users?

    • +5

      Stay tuned. Coming soon :)

      • HI TA,

Will this cashback of $152 work for 1st ubereats trip as driver. Also going through cashrewards open webpage to login and not APP. will this work if I click through cashrewards and then open APP and login.

        • Hi there. This offer is not for UberEATS driver. And yes re app, as long as it's for Uber rider/driver.

  • Can I make a second account to take advantage of this offer?

    • +1

new email new number & new payment method & yes you can

  • Is all the $26 used after the first ride?
I have been told it's $18 for uber trip I need to take in August.

Whats the expiry on the cash rewards uber, I haven't had an account before.

  • Bugger. Expires 14th. I need it for the 21st Aug.
I would have used that, otherwise I'll look for an uber code for then.

  • +1

Before anyone gets too excited about doing 1 uber driver trip to get the reward, you will need to upgrade your driver's licence, car insurance etc. for ride sharing. Possibly more trouble than it's worth

    • Hmm I think I'm still OK. The car I'd use would be my wife's (mines too old), though I'm listed as a secondary driver on hers. She has full comprehensive insurance. What do you mean about upgrading driver's license? Is that a reference to younger P plate drivers maybe?

      • You have to pay $80 to get license from RMS

        • Ah, my hopes and dreams crushed!

Though that'd still mean a $84.80 profit would it not?

Great for someone otherwise planning to get into this work but maybe not so much for someone like me who only ever planned on driving with Uber once.

        • I think the Hire Car authority is $45 now, and Uber will pay it (but it comes out of your earnings)

It used to be $90 fwiw.

        • @OzJD: I paid $80 in February @NSW

    • Correct. The cost of a rideshare licence alone is more than the cashback.

Note: licence varies from state to state.

  • -1

Nice , glad I kept and activated my 6 months amaysim Groupon code . This will pay off nicely with a free $26 ride

I guess you can also try and stack it with $5 CR sign up bonus and get $13 cashback in total but remember to use a different IP in incognito mode

    • I heard that Uber will disable your account if multiple accounts are used with the same device. Does anyone know anything about this?

      • I have half a dozen android phones I bought for $5 from Woolworths

        Stocked up so I'm prepared

      • Can confirm this isn't true. I have two driver accounts (and rider accounts). We often share devices when batteries go flat on a drunken evening.

        • Some say max 2 accounts, some say max 5 accounts …

    • I think there is a phantom neg'er amongst us in this deal.

  • +1

I have never used UBER so just out of curiosity how much % cheaper is UBER compared to a normal taxi?

    • its cheaper 20-30 % if you download RYDO (GM CABS ) or ingogo they both offer fixed prices for taxis RYDO is cheap but the issue is sometimes too cheap and smaller jobs wont get accepted by drivers. You can also use a referral code 1st up for RYDO & ingogo and get $20 and I think ingogo was $15 off 1st ride.

      Mod: Referral solicitation removed.

      • Drivers dont see the job until they pick you up. Are you saying they reject you on the spot knowing you are going just around the corner?

        • I am saying if the fixed price is say only $10 which is price from my house to five dock leisure center some times i can't get a driver

        • +1

@supatight: We (drivers) have no idea where you are going, or what the ride will be worth until we start the trip when you're in the car.

We do often reject jobs when it's far away from where we are (eg. 17 minutes before pickup) or when the passenger has a bad rating.

          Yes, passengers get rated, too!

    • Used to cost me $55-70 to get home from the city in a taxi, costs me around $33 in an uber

  • +1

wow..Uber must be losing drivers left and right due to their shitty rate…at least in WA

    • You are right

      • I know I am, cuz I am an ex driver..

WA probably worst place to do uber driving now.

    • +1

$1/km - 25% uber fee, and minus GST on the $1/km….. YAY working for slave labour rates!

Yep Uber churns drivers like no tomorrow.

  • +1

Is it worth signing up as an Uber driver and only choosing to accept pickups when rate is multiplied in peak times? ie: metro trains debacle… or do they demand x amount of hours per week?

    • You can choose when to turn the app on. I have to lodge a BAS etc.. for some contracting i do so in those days where uber is likely to be profitable, nothing stopping me turning the app on and driving for a few hours

I hear from the drivers i talk to (i use it as a rider regularly and always shake down the drivers for tips) that big drinking public holidays can be profitable - i.e. Australia day, Boxing day, New Years eve etc..

  • Is this just for australia?

    • yes aus and I think NZ, different 'first ride' offers for other counteries.

  • +1

    Hi TA,

I did as mentioned, but when i opened the UBER app, it says only AUD 5 credit instead of AUD 26 as mentioned.

    Regards

    • Same here, used coupon CR26 as mentioned but only $5 credit instead of $26 in the Uber app

      • Please see edited OP. We've contacted Uber and just waiting on a fix. Thanks :)

        • +4

I'm sure it'll all work out fine. After seeing what TA accomplished (the impossible) over there at Yomojo I have full faith in this one ending in a positive outcome too. TA doesn't know what 9-5 means - he'll take care of it, and us. We're in good hands.

Unlike Yomojo the deadline is still well off too so no need to stress.

        • @Click_It:
Its not clear, ita that 14/08, sign up deadline or deadline to use the uber credit?

        • Keen to sign up, need uber for 21/08

Is the 14th expiry, for the use of the $26 credit or sign up deadline? Its not really clear on the CR link.

First uber will be on 21/08

        • @albanyson:

Ah, I'd only be guessing if I gave you an answer now but I suspect we'll know more tomorrow when everyones back at work. This deal only came live around 4PM so let's wait and see.

A fine date 21/08, I become a year older on that day :)

        • @Click_It: Yes I agree

        • +1

@albanyson: Hi albanyson. Please see updated OP. New coupon, and expiry condition at bottom :)

        • Hey TA,

Thanks for the edited post and updated coupon code, but what happens to people like me who applied the earlier code CR26. Still it is only 5Aud credit in my account.

          Thankd

        • @sgax04: Hi there. Had someone PM me this very question as Uber support wanted evidence it was advertised incorrectly. Please show them this and they should update your account to the new promo. After all, it was their error that caused the issue when they set the coupon up incorrectly. You can maybe even show them this post. Any issues, please PM me. Apologies for the inconvenience.

        • @tightarse:
Noted, amended to read must be redeemed by 15/08.
First Uber ride, first use on account, will be 21/08 unfortunately. Can it be extended one week more?

        • +1

@albanyson: We're trying to get this extended with Uber as we speak. Will keep you posted.

        • @tightarse:
          Standing by….. thanks

        • @tightarse:
          Any update?

        • @tightarse:
Anything further on the extension till 21/08?

  • The 14th August. Is that for when you have to use the uber ride, or is that the sign up expiry? I need it for the 21st.

  • +3

I'm signing as a driver in Queensland. I don't have exact expenses to hand, but so far I'm $600 down, and still with no approval after 3 weeks.

My insurance went up $200 (NRMA - was quoted $700 increase when I was on NSW license a month ago). I had to get a commercial driver medical check for $150 (no medicare rebate). License fee to upgrade is about $190 for the license (cheaper rate if multi year) plus $50 for the background check (Gov makes you pay).

If you know another driver, you can get them to share a referral code and you'll each get $150 from memory.

It's a good deal if planning to be a driver already and don't know other drivers, but probably not worth the expense and time unless a cheap state like NSW, and with an uber friendly insurance company.

Keep up the deals Tightarse! Thanks

EDIT: tightarse any chance to check if it can stack with a driver referral?

    • +2

      Great feedback. Thank you :)

Re the referral, I have no idea but will ping Uber and hopefully get a response for you, but I have a sneaking suspicion the answer may unfortunately be no.

  • How does Cashrewards track the Uber booking? I clicked out on one device but booked on another, does it match via registered email address?

    • Provided you completed the registration on 1 device I'd think it should be okay. But be aware there appears to be an issue with the CR26 coupon not activating the full $26 at the moment, TA is working with Uber to get it resolved.

Unsure if this reply helps you ?

    • How does Cashrewards track the Uber booking?

As per the OP, you need to start at Cashrewards on your mobile, search for Uber, click Shop Now, and that'll open the Uber app which then completes the tracking loop. You can't use different devices and expect cashback. Hope this helps.

      • For me, clicking the app store just opens the uber app page on the app store (I already have the uber app installed).

        • getting the same issue, it doesnt open uber app, just goes to google play store page

        • Same for me as well, just installed the app and created signed up for the service., I highly doubt this will be tracked

  • Nice one TA cheers

  • +1

The Uber largesse is shrinking as the cash pile is drained. Last year, I got a $400 bonus for the first 20 jobs as a driver. The payment to the referrer then was $500. Big incentives paid by Uber - no wonder they're losing so much money. I didn't work for them long - it is not at all worthwhile for the driver, for passengers it's another story. Be very wary of third party personal injury liability…

My concerns relating to personal injury appear to be unwarranted: β€œEvery Australian uberX trip is covered by vehicle liability insurance issued by CGU, which provides at least $20,000,000 for third party bodily injury and property damage. This is in addition to each partner's own insurance coverage,” the spokesperson said. I stand corrected on this.

  • Does my Mrs count?
