    Thanks Spackbace,
Wasn't able cancel my subscription through the iOs app but I logged in to their website and did it from there.

Same here. Btw great find OP cheers :)

  • +5

    Thanks Spackbace!

Ended up choosing PayPal as the payment method and cancelled the subscription on Paypal

  • All sorted.

  • I managed to download it on iOS but now in a loop and cannot access the sign in screen. That is, Sign up to Tidal > Start Free Trial then loops back to the initial page

    • No issues on iOS for me. Followed exact steps in op except the last bit on how to cancel. That I had to do via http://tidal.com/us

      • +3

Ah no worries, sorry that was Android instructions but thought it would be universal

      • No worries. Won't work on my iPhone SE so will try something else.

  • +1

Perfect. My six month free sub from the last deal just expired a week ago.

    • Haha same here! What a deal that was, didn't even need to enter any payment info

  • Nice :)

I love that Tidal offers a Hi-Fi option and I would have switched over from Spotify if the UI wasn't so damn awful :(

    • I found the same issue / Spotify connect is also a really good feature that Tidal lacks.
I can only really notice the difference on my stereo setup with higher quality speakers

  • "Worth" 23.99 per month. Still though I've always wanted to try it and I do appreciate lossless over lossy. But Apple Music is already pretty high bitrate, good enough anyway that most people won't notice.

    • Just keep in mind that you can't stream lossless with iOS over Bluetooth.

      • That's okay, I only stream over AirTunes over wifi, which handles cd quality I believe.

        • +1

That's likely but with Apple you can never be sure. There's very little in the way of specs / transparency around their protocols - it's more of a case of "just trust us".

        • airtunes specs are posted on Wikipedia the the Apple website.

  • what is lossless audio ? I've downloaded the app & activated Tidal but I don't see much value here

    • +6

1411kbps (Tidal) vs 320kbps (max audio quality on Spotify).

If you don't understand what lossless means, you're probably correct in that there's not much value in this product for you, specifically.

Do I need Bose QC35s to get the most out of this free trial or will a 80k luxury car yielding investment with stereo upgrade be the better option ?

        • Ummm you should look at some proper cans if you really want to take advantage of the high bitrate. I mean sure theyre convenient, but much better sounding cans can be had at the same price point

        • -6

@GossipGoat: MMMMMMMmmmmmmmmm nice cans, but do they support lossless audio when motor boating

        • +5

@PAOK11: OK, so I assume your comments are just joking, but I'm still going to respond. The major benefit of QC35s is their quality of noise cancelling, not sound reproduction. If you think that Bose sounds good, then you almost certainly don't need Tidal, but free is free, so feel free to use it in your 80k luxury car or in your motor boat

24 dollars a month. i had no idea it was that ridiculously expensive

    • +1

It's aimed at the niche audiophile market. Niche products are rarely cheap.

    • It's $11.99/month for their Premium tier which has a comparable audio quality to other streaming services. The Hi-Fi/lossless tier is a niche service for audiophiles with equipment that can take advantage of the better quality.

  • Perfect! Spotify free subscription ran out 3 days ago!

  • It says 30 days free trial?

    • There's been a handful of reports of that, but can't work out what's triggering it

      • Turns out I already had an account.
I used a new email address and it worked.

        • Ah k thought that might be it :)

        • +2

@Spackbace: With all of these deals, you can easily forget what you have signed up for in the past :-)

      Then also cancel subscription via

      • +1

        Thank you very much!

        • No worries :)

  • Didnt work for me so just signed up for the 1 month trial.

    • +1

Only works for new accounts. Try using a new email address

    • Same.

  • Will I notice a difference in my car? Speakers are of decent quality.

    • Doubt it in most car systems. Even less so if driving or using Bluetooth to stream

      • +1

AHH :( thanks for replying, i just spent like 10 minutes in my car switching between apple music and Tidal, couldnt really tell the difference at all, tidal did sound slightly better but placebo maybe. idk.. free is free anyways :D

    • -1

The only difference you will notice with a higher bit rate (if any,I guess the sound quality is the same. It doesn't make sense to listen to a song that uses 50-100MB of mobile data vs 5MB) is the more disconnections, due to higher volumes of data transfer requirements and larger mobile broadband bills.
I doubt you would ever get a fridge then!

  • Very nice. FLAC > MP3

  • My Spotify sub is just running out of free juice so perfect timing. I have to say that I've done lots of testing the difference in quality in Spotify and Google Music with $600 headphones and really struggle to hear the difference. The biggest difference is that a lot of play lists on Spotify seem to be put together using really low bit rates so that even when you listen to them in high quality that sound rubbish compared to listening to the same tracks individually or on an album. There's a huge difference and it's strange that no one else has noticed. Not that I can see on Google anyway.

    • +1

AFAIK both Spotify and Google Play Music stream at 320kbps, so there really shouldn't be much if any difference between the two.

As for telling the difference between 320kbps and lossless, I struggle even a Sony MDR-Z1R (RRP $2,400… I paid much less) using balanced connectors out of a good DAC/amp. But I do notice the difference with a well-mastered DSD or 24-bit/48kHZ+ PCM file.

      • +1

Actually, there is a difference. Google Play Music uses MP3 for its streaming and Spotify uses Ogg Vorbis, which is a more efficient codec. Theoretically, all things being equal (i.e. 320 kbps for both), Ogg Vorbis would produce slightly higher fidelity.

Similarly, Apple Music's more efficient 248 kbps AAC is comparable to Google Play Music's 320 kbps MP3 in terms of the audio quality.

In terms of actually being able to hear the difference, it all comes down to the type of material you're listening to. For example, you're much more likely to hear the difference on high dynamic range acoustic / classical / jazz recordings than on highly compressed modern pop/rock/r'n'b.

For example, I could easily hear the difference between lossless and Google Play Music streaming using a higher-end AptX compatible bluetooth speaker such as the Klipsch KMC-3.

      • What's a good track to tell the difference with?

  • +1

    Thanks op

Just compared a few songs on the big 4 with a professional Bluetooth and wired headphone, lots of differences but the sound quality definitely is the same.
    Just marketing.
    No way $24 per month

    • +1

Yep, they've tried for years to convince people and some are convinced but most aren't. They had us all for years (including me as I used to spend $000s on hifi) with snake oil about the latest and greatest DACs or silver speaker cable. Not anymore!

      • Well that's a good marketing strategy. They don't have to convince most people. Just as much depending on the price tag and there will always be a customer even if you sell air.
On the other hand, you better register now, if it was available in 2 weeks, register for a new account.

    • There are so many factors that determine whether you can hear the difference or not - e.g. the type of material and it's mastering quality, limitations of your own ears etc…

Btw, what's a professional bluetooth headphone??

  • How is it compared to Spotify or SoundCloud in terms of music variety and volume?

  • "Do I have to be online to play music?

No, TIDAL has offline mode, which means you can download content of your choosing to your device, and play it when there is no network available. This works for both Premium and HiFi."

I'm guessing that's with the app only and I can't download and use in my playlist in Foobar2000 right?

    • You could just make a playlist in Tidal. Not sure it'll have everything you're after though.

      • Nah, that's pretty much useless then.

        • +1

The range is actually surprisingly good after looking around.

  • Any idea when this offer finishes? I've got two weeks left on my spotify sub

  • Thanks OP, I'll give it another try.
Be careful with the volume vs spotify. The volume is louder in Tidal.

  • The above doesn't work. When you go through the app it says sign up for 1 month free trial. Any one having same problem??

    • Have you signed up before?

      • No I haven't. It still says 1 month subscription when I go to pay..

        • Try a different email address in case.

Many others have had it work, just double check you're doing the right steps

        • @Spackbace: So when I select 1 month free trial and proceed it asks for email. I sign in to it with a new email then it goes to payment credit card/PayPal. If I proceed will it upgrade to 3 months? Thanks for your help

        • @Ozjoey:

Not sure, are you clicking through from the Captune app?

        • @Spackbace: Yes could you please explain the process in a bit more detail. As soon as you click on sign up to tidal via CapTune, I select the Hi Fi option and it says trial for 30 days… im using iOS

  • +1

Worked for me on Android, thank you, 3 months came up straight away

  • +1

Worked fine for me on Android, 3 months free trial.

Can also use it on a PC or perhaps a Mac through a web browser through https://listen.tidal.com

  • Btw downloading the FLACs is surprisingly easy and there's a decent amount of Aussie music on there
