i dont understand these…. do all u guys just plug them in the first time show some people the colour changes… then use it as a normal light bulb and never change the colour again?..

    • +13

      Yes everyone

      • +9

I have half a dozen of these, and another 4 ordered after the last few days deals. The colour changing isn't that useful but I love the wifi on off functionality and the dimming. I've set up Homebridge so I can use Siri to control them. Beats climbing out of bed to turn things off and on.

    • +22

Not only that, people call the random passerbys to show the color changing light bulb.

      • bahaha now Im interested

    • +8

Personally, I like the sunset mode, which gradually dims and turns red while I'm going to bed. I find that it helps me transition to sleep, especially if I've been working late. Also, the sunrise scene, which I've set up to start a few minutes before my alarm in the morning, makes it easier to wake up.
My eldest daughter is sensitive to bright light, so the dimming ability is great for her and we've got one in the nursery instead of needing a separate night light.
All the lights are also connected to our main home automation system.
This is all quite apart from the flyers that we've distributed to every house in Sydney inviting them to come over and experience the novelty value. :-P

Four ways in which you can usefully use them (from my LifX bulb)

      1) You can change the colour temp of the light, which can change the feel of the room, particularly with white walls. You can move from warm and cozy to cool and efficient depending on what you are doing.

      2) You can have them shining up the wall to give it a 'wash' of colour. Much cheaper than painting and again you can change how the room feels via the combination of colours.

      3) You can use a dim red light at night if you have to get up, so you can not get blinded by turning on a full bore white light. This can be automated.

      4) You can tie them to TV etc. so they automatically dim when you are watching a movie (or you can turn them down by voice).

    • I've never bothered with the colours, but being able to have a home automation system adjust the temperature and brightness etc is very nice.

    • Personally I use mine to automatically turn on the patio light from 7-pm to 6am even if we're not home.

Just noticed it is not limited to 1 order

    • yep…got 4

There is so many tempting deals from this place, but seriously postage times are horrible. Been waiting over 2 months for something to get here. I had to wait the same amount of time previously, but thought I'd give them another try.

I forgot I purchased something the first time, so when it arrived I was excited as it was like a random gift, till I realised I actually purchased the item.

    • +17

That's why I like buying from these places. It's usually something at least slightly useful at a very low price, you forgot you bought it then SURPRISE!

      • Happens to me all the time. Most funny is that you only remember it after you opened the package and see what it is.

    • +1

I just checked through my order history. The few things I've ordered that were listed as "CN" have shipped and arrived super quick. The on thing listed as "HK" took almost 8 weeks.

Not sure if that is any sort of trend of a coincidence, but I've had a mixed experience with them

    • BangGood is basically Kinder Surprise for adults. You don't even realize what u got until you opened it, then you don't even remember ordering it, until it hits you. But yeh it's a good price. I automated my house with Phillips Hue and each bulb was $60+. Think I spent too much. Should of waited for Xiaomi.

  • sweet deal, thanks

  • i can see the $9.99 but it changes to $12.79 before i can add to cart.

    • +3

      US$9.99
      AU$12.79
It must be changing the currency by itself

      • thanks, its very early i wasn't capable of reading the US part.

  • Are prices back up? I'm getting $30+

  • Yes! A sale with no limits. Got a number of them, showing "low stock" in the cart. thanks OP.

  • +1

Got another 3 thanks, best price yet. Currently got about half my house hooked up with Yeelights, they work great with Home Assistant.

  • Does anyone know the difference between this and the $4USD one from the NZ based Limitless LED?
    http://www.limitlessled.com/shop/rgb-color-led-light-bulb/

    • This one is WiFi and works with an app and home automation. The one you linked needs a remote that they don't have stock of.

      • It says it is wifi capable~

        • +1

Not quite. It's 'wireless', meaning the bulb itself is controlled via a non-wifi radio signal. You can use it via wifi, but you need to purchase a wifi 'bridge', which is a unit that connects to wifi then sends the radio signals to the bulbs.

The YeeLight (and Lifx bulbs) connect directly to wifi - increasing the complexity of the bulbs but eliminating the need for a bridge.

    • +1

yea its probably 250ish lumens. Since the specs arent even posted in their description. Its just a guess.

    • The Xiaomi is a current model under active development with a large app ecosystem and an innovative Chinese company behind it.

The one you linked is the kind of thing you get from a $2 shop that promises the world but turns out to be cheap and crappy and you ultimately give up and replace it with something better.

      • Limitless LED is recommended by a lot of folks on Whirlpool. They've been doing this since 2012 and have lots of examples of folks receiving free replacements within the three year warranty period.

        http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2025433

        • Sure the supplier might be alright, but the no name Chinese bulb they're selling won't have anywhere near the support/development/features that a Xiaomi one will.

They really are quite different products, ones an internet connected, wifi, app controlled smart bulb. The other is a multicoloured light that works with an old school IR remote (which they don't even have in stock).

For those that do not have E27 fittings you can get a 2pk of adapters from ikea for $2.

    • Bunnings?

      • I've never found them at Bunnings. Try Ikea (only some stores as they've been discontinued) or Ebay/Aliexpress/…..

      • No not at bunnings from what i cauld see.

        Adelaide ikea had heaps.

  • +12

If you add 3, priority direct mail is only 13 cents for 6-9 days.

  • Noob question guys, but do you need a screwcap fitting for your light bulb? The only 'bulb' I have in my home is a bayonet style fitting. Any tips? Thanks in advance.

    • +1

Yes, or as Brett308 says above, get an adaptor.

  • Anyone used any WiFi enabled downlights(that sit flush) ? Just plain white is good.

    • +2

You'd probably be better off keeping your downlights (or I can recommend Pak 10W LED downlights) and getting a wireless switch/dimmer for them instead.

      • Thanks, I'll look into it.

      • Any recommendations as the only ones I have found so far are twice as big as a normal light switch.

      • I'd also be interested in any wireless switches/dimmers for use with existing setups!

  • +2

Added to card. $0.00 as total. Cannot checkout

    • That happened to me when I was on their website. Managed to order one using their mobile app.

  • Is this Yeelight exactly the same in features to that available at gearbest https://www.gearbest.com/smart-lighting/pp_361555.html.

    • Yes, There is only 1 version/model of Yeelight RGB.

  • These are always screw fitting, can you select bayonet?

    • Going to have to get an adapter luckily they are cheap

    • No, they don't make them. But you can buy adapters

  • Do these lights allow you to dim and control brightness?

    • Yes

      • and control colours too

        • +3

yes but set server to singapore (server setting inside yeelight app).
no need ifttt, now supported by google assistant directly.

  • on 'Back order' after you pay in the processing area

  • No shipping type button. Even when I click on it on the original page, there's no option to change it or view the type of shipping in the checkout page!!!

  • Do these work the same as the Phillips xiaomi globes? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/322529

    • Yes but this is coloured, the phillips is white only and you need to use mi home app not yeelight.

  • Any way to get these to work with iOS? Siri or IFTTT?

    • Homebridge.

  • +4

  • +1

My only hope now is that this makes 7 i have bought. 4 seperate ones, and 3 this time. And every time its not really as I need them, but because it is a new cheapest price. At least next time they come up if they aren't any cheaper I won't feel like I have to buy it as its not a record low.

  • it's saying $19 AUD?

    • Login to get the reduced price

      • thanks! got one!

      • still now reduced after logging in. expired?

        • Yeah, seems like it is expired now.

  • Noob question - can the dimming function be used when the bulb is installed in a touch lamp that does not support dimming?
