Got this last time a bit cheaper ~ $385 or so. Highly recommended!! They put you on the Dreamliners so that's good :)
For Jetstar, it was a really comfortable flight, just take your own food and headphones (you get an adaptor to plug your own headphones in if you don't like theirs which no one does) or you'll end up paying just as much as you would've lol.

    • +2

Agreed. It's not too long a flight and the Dreamliners are pretty decent.
I probably wouldn't recommend getting food on the plane but it isn't too awful, just expensive.
And you pay for in-flight entertainment, at least I did 2 years ago.

      • Yeah definitely get entertainment - I think it's only $15 or so?
And the food is quite bad, even for plane food. To top it off, it's so overpriced.

        • Is it better than loading up an iPad with your own movies and shows?

        • @AustriaBargain: Well, it depends on what you want. Personally I think the entertainment is worth it, but if you want to save $15 then I guess just make sure the kids are happy!! If you don't have kids, it'll most likely suffice for yourself.

      • I flew Jetstar to Hawaii and to Tokyo and both times got the cup of noodles and both times it made me not only sick but gave me gout too. Never had gout before or since those times, can tell you was the worst thing ever.

    • Agreed, I went last year for $368

    • In November, they have dates for about $385. But it's not easy to pack a winter's worth in 7KG, or should I cough up around $200 more to make it 10kg?

      • +2

You can pick up winter clothes in JP at Uniqlo etc cheaply.

        • But how would you bring it back?

        • @Marty131: You don't bring it back or you swap it out for what you brought over and throw away your old clothes, I'd rather spend money on new clothes then airline food and excess baggage but that's just me.

        • +1

          @Marty131:

Just wear all your jackets on the plane :)

      • Wait what?

When I went with Jetstar in Nov 2015 it cost us $35 each to upgrade to 20kg.

        • That's not what it says on the website last time I checked.

  • +8

Jumped on this last time - incredible deal. Every single person I told that I got two return fares to Japan for $750 was amazed. Amazing country!

  • Thanx

  • +2

How I would love to. Getting return for 320/person. Not enough holidays though.

    • +45

How lucky we are to be limited not by money but amount of annual leave. First world problems.

      • So true

    • You could be "sick" for 10 continuous days ?

      • Wont you need a sick cert?

        • Not legally enforceable as a requirement to be sick. :-)

    • +1

You pay $0 to have your remains repatriated

    • +2

Only 7 downvotes? You guys are softer than the UN.

  • I cant find the Feb link… can anyone else?

    • Yeah it's only on certain routes, I found it going Bris -> Tokyo.

  • +2

Would be better if you can leave and arrive from different cities

  • +1

    Anyone else getting this?

You don't have permission to access "http://booking.jetstar.com/au/en/booking/select-flights" on this server.

    • +1

I got that but it was fixed by using chrome incognito.

    • The site has shit itself, went all the way to payment then got that screen. Now the booking page, even with Melbourne > Narita selected redirects to "Melbourne (Tullamarine) to Sydney". Tried incognito mode as well.

  • +2

Not as cheap as it used to be, but still, been waiting for this!

I swear though, the sales only happen when my manager(s) are away and I can't really confirm the time off…argh!

    • Just buy it then your manager needs to give you the time off!

      • +1

Sadly that's not quite how it works. :P

    Sweet Deal!

But they want $615 for returned trip from Darwin to Adelaide? Grr, hate living in the NT.

    • Try looking darwin-singapore-tokyo

      • +1

No, what I mean was that it's more expensive to fly from Darwin to Adelaide than to fly overseas.

    • I just booked Darwin to Tokyo return, via Cairns for $785 with 15kg luggage.

  • +1

Shoot! I want be there for Comiket & if I stay there until February 6, it'll come up as $69.36 for returning from Tokyo to Sydney through 3 flights :'(

Edit: Free returns from Sydney to Tokyo is only from 08 May 18 - 27 Jun 18

  • +2

    must… resist…

    weird date ranges though

    For your return flight, search for flights between: 19 November - 11 December 2017, 6 February - 27 June 2018, or 6 May - 9 July 2018.

why not just say 6 February - 9 July 2018 when the date ranges overlap?

    or am i missing something…

  • Thanks. Booked OOL to Tokyo for Easter long weekend + 2 days for $380 incl seats and card fee.

  • +1

Can anyone find this deal from perth?

    • Page is blank for me…

      • Ive not found any flights available for return flights at all.

I went to Japan earlier this year from Brisbane the same Jetstar deal. Amazing country and highly recommended!
Beware of the transit time periods. Took about 14 hours from Tokyo to Brisbane with 5 hour transit at Cairs Airport with not much to do. After a long trip, the last thing you want to do is wait in an airport for that long lol you do pay for what you get though and Jetstar service was generally quite good :)

    • +2

Fly from gold coast, it's direct every other day.

    • we've been twice from GC, all direct 9hr flights. The 1hr train ride to GC was about the same travel time for me as the airtrain to brisbane airport, and costs less I think. Plus gold coast airport seems to be less busy for stuff like TRS and of course less busy in general.

  • $429 via Cairns from Brisbane or $319 direct from GC. Seems like odd pricing but now i'm keen to book!

  • Does anyone know if you need to enter passport details when booking? Can't find the info on the site, and partner needs to renew hers. Thanks

    • +1

      Just booked and no

      • Thanks mate appreciate it. Japan yessss

  • Cheers OP. Got $379 return from Sydney!

  • Jetstar has afterpay now

  • "Sorry, we can't log you into your account at the moment. Please try again later." How frustrating.

  • Do the flights include luggage or is that an added extra? Thanks.

  • +1

Just keeps dying on the payment page.

  • +11

Too bad they killed the Melbourne > Tokyo direct route after 2 years for being too popular and giving it to Qantas instead

  • Cairns airport really needs an upgrade…

  • unless you only have carry on 7kg it works out $1298 return for 2 people with bags in March… i.e. $240 each way for 2 and doesnt look like I have the ability to select only 1 with baggage…either way disappointing

    • unless they've removed it, it's not very prominent on the booking page but there is an option to set it so that not all of the passengers on the booking have checked luggage.

    • You can select individual baggage. I just booked return for 2 people (+1 30kg luggage both ways) in March = $480pp. Pretty sweet deal.

  • +6

Just be warned if you're flying via the Gold Coast and only taking carry-on, they are extremely strict on weight allowance. You will likely have your carry on weighed twice (check in and prior to boarding).

    • +1

Even in Sydney, sometimes you can see a guy wandering around, volunteering to weigh your carry-on for free.

  • if I don't upgrade baggage and get seat selection, will my partner and I just be sitting next to random people?

    • +1

you will sit together if you both check in early

      • thanks mate.. appreciate it. not sure if it's worth the risk, I usually have bad luck with this stuff ;)

        • +1

i have never selected my seat in the last 6 trips with jetstar. we always sit next to each other.

  • Ugh… No checked baggage.

  • For those who have already booked, can anyone tell me what the price is to add a 15KG bag to a flight already booked? You can check it on this page: https://book.jetstar.com/Retrievebooking.aspx

    Much appreciated.

    • +1

It's $80 each way from Sydney.

  • Awesome, thank you!

  • Booked. Thanks!

  • +9

    $380 return Sydney.

Absolute legend. Japan is worth visiting annually to be honest.

  • +1

booked!!!! always waiting for this deal!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH

  • I miss when this was available for $260-ish! Had a great time in Japan

  • Great deal! If only I had the money for it.

  • Silly. There are no flights from april returning may from Adelaide to Japan…

  • Can't get a deal flying from Perth!? Says no available flights returning any day June.

    • Can't see any either :( Anyone?

  • Yes!!! Been on a lookout for this long time now.
Thanks mates for posting this in OzBargain!

Just a question though, I can't login using my Jetstar account, just ended up buying without signing-in. Hopefully I can still link to my Jetstar account once its been fixed right?

  • Anyone manage to book from Perth?

    • Can't find any return flights

  • Tempting but 6am flight is such a pain…

    • +2

      It's worth it for Japan!

      • Took the same flight earlier this year. Not again!

  • chepeast for syd>tokyo in feb??

  • Can I sell my tickets to someone else if I can't go?

  • So odd that they advertise Melbourne to Tokyo for $457 when there are plenty of dates for $401 (leaving on a Sunday in late April to June, and returning most other days).

  • I went Jetstar to Japan on the Melbourne to Tokyo direct flights two and a half years ago! The flight was lovely and even though now theres a stop over in cairns or Gold coast, the dreamliner plane is very quiet and has ok leg space.

When I booked my flights were 200 aud each way (inc luggage etc) - as it was when Japan was starting to become trendy again, after the tsunami downturn.

Also bear in mind when you land in Tokyo, Jetstar uses the new low cost terminal 3 - which is a walking distance from the main terminals and from trains to the CBD.

  • +1

Good deal but seriously, about $300 extra for bundles return? need to think twice

  • Not as good as it used to be with direct flight.
JAL's inaugural sale for direct flights MEL-NRT was better imho.

    • I think that theres finally decent competition to North asia, prices are more competitive on all class brackets. We've got Japan airlines, Qantas, ANA, jetstar etc all now flying from Australian cities.

  • +1

By the time I get the luggage it comes to $700

    • i just paid $539 melb>osaka return with 20kg check in.
i couldnt find any $0 flights. lowest i could get was $20 return

  • Home come they don't do the month view anymore, or if they do how come its inanely difficult to find?

  • Can anyone please clarify if meals is included in these flights?
I have heard that with jetstar japan flights, you have to buy them on the plan or bring your own???
Does that mean, we bring our own food or buy at the airport and bring into the plane?

    • +1

no meals or luggage included besides 7kg carry on (strictly enforced). Bring your own food and add extra 15kgs each way for $80each way
