What Cheapo China Purchase Impressed You?

I'm quite happy with the air mouse thingy. For less than $7, was shipped fast and it's really handy. I can use it for presentations. Amazing value! Can't believe big brands haven't adopted this gadget.

    • Is that the one between $300-$400?

      • +2

        Sure is!

        • it said Cheapo chinese purchase!!

im very impressed that it works on carpet though, so tempted to get one now!

        • +4

@Hirolol: True - I guess it was half the price of some other robot vacuums, but it's definitely still a big splurge - One of the most expensive appliances we've ever bought, and we spent months considering it. Just be aware it can grabs cords and pull electrical items off tables/ nightstands if you're not careful to tuck them VERY far away, as this vacuum gets into many nooks and crannies. This happened to us running it last night :O Luckily only something small, but I think it could conceivably pull something like a laptop or tablet down if you weren't careful, so lesson learned :/

        • @elliebargain:
how does it go with big rooms?
Does it do every single room going through doorways etc?

        • +5

@Hirolol: Yes it does! I was nervous about this because we have a long narrow house with our kitchen sort of separated by an island, and a huge long hallway with laundry, toilet and bathroom coming off it, as well as a bedroom and study. It is so methodical - maps out half the lounge and finishes that completely, then the second half of the lounge, then it does the kitchen, and goes down the hall to do the bathroom/toilet/ laundry rooms, then more hallway, then our bedroom, then more hallway, then the study, and then it just heads back to its dock which is hidden behind our couch. If it has to stop halfway to charge it goes to the dock then starts exactly where it left off. Amazing. I had my doubts about whether it would be able to get around our furniture and not get lost, but it works incredibly well.

We just got ours the other week and feel exactly the same. It is now a honorary family member.

    • Oh so the Roboguy deal finally came through?

      • I got it with this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/327579 But was only able to use a 5% off code.

They're based in Australia so we got it in two days. They do a 12 month warranty and easier returns and from the forum comments this seems accurate.

      • Yeah roboguy f-i-n-a-l-l-y came through. My gf ordered through him.

  • was the air mouse for an android box? what one did you get?

      • By air mouse, you mean wave your hands in the air and the cursor moves kind of thing?
If so, I have a similar model, curious to know how to set it up?

        • Haven't tried the waving thingy, but you just gave me an idea

        • +1

          @downero:
Your idea already exists…. It's called the Nintendo Power Glove.

  • 10c Micro USB cable from this post. Feels very premium and have used it extensively for the past few months. Still has no trouble delivering enough current to fast-charge my S8.
Also, one of those $1.30 USB "RGB Gaming mice", which came with a braided cable. Buttons felt quite solid and the tracking was not bad.
And, of course the usual $5-8 notCree T6 based torches (18650).

  • Got this JVJ G280 mouse while i was in Viet Nam. Got it to replace my Deathadder which the wire broke after 6 months. For $5 these are still going strong after 4 years and i still use them up to this day along side my Logitech g300s.

    • Excellent point. I'm now using a TECKNET BM306 Bluetooth Mouse from AliExpress which is very good.. Can't bring myself to part with $90 for an MX Master when I can get 7 of these for the same price!
Uses a single AA battery that lasts at least 3 months of daily use at work.

  • Everything thing is basically made in china, so everything that's been on sale i guess.

  • $1 power adapter. Same price as sending a letter to my neighbour.

  • +9

Xiaomi Mi Band 2. ~$10 can do everything a Fitbit does for less than a tenth of the price.

    • +1

Seconding this! I bought two for my parents as well because I was so impressed after replacing my fitbit!

  • +3

Am I the only one that has noticed OPs display picture contradicts the topic?

  • I got a F60R action camera the other day. Mine is a tekcam brand, but there are a dozen other brands all based on the same design (with interchangable parts). It's really good, case is waterproof and works at the beach. Mounted to my motorcycle helmet as a dashcam. Video quality is pretty good. It only cost about $45.

  • +2

All-in-one Temperature controlled soldering iron/power supply/rework station. Great bit of kit. Paid around $100 for it.
Now selling for $160 and still a bargain if you're into building/fixing electronics.

    • Which model do you have? Wanting to get a new one but there are too many to choose from…

      • +1

Saike 909D+ (220V version)from Banggood with a load of extra crap you might not need.

I've used pro kit in the past, but a similar specced Weller setup would be $$$$. It's not pro kit, doesn't try to be.

But for hobbyist stuff or small repair shops (I've seen the same model on those "Fix your phone" stalls) it's amazing. Having it all in the same unit saves me workbench space, the iron heats well and quickly, the power supply is as stable as anything I've used, and it's great to have the heat gun right there for SMD or heat-shrink work.

Xiaomi Power Banks. Rock solid, quick charging, slim life savers. I know Americans rave about Ankers but on account of them not shipping here for ages, I'm sold on the Xiaomi.

    • +1

My gen 1 10000mah is now like a wallet. I don't leave home without it

    • I just recently picked up a 20000mAh xiaomi powerbank and I'm totally in agreement.

    • Xiaomi Yeelight RGB

    blitzwolf and xiaomi stuff.

i really love the build quality of blitzwolf, whenever i get something i am more impressed everytime by them.

    • Have the blitzwolf fast charger multi usb. Doesn't seem to fast charge

      • +1

Which one, what cable are you using and what phone have you got?

    • Can't agree more with the Blitzwolf gear. I have so many of their chargers and backup batteries. Simply great quality gear and at a really good price.

  • +2

    Glasses and prescription sunnies.

Starting at AU$35 in Shanghai, and from around AU$40 in Beijing.

    • +1

      Which outfits?

I've tried 39dollarglasses, but they're US based - maybe AUD 50 when they punch a coupon out.

      • +3

I've only purchased in person - in both cities. This time we came back with more than 10 pairs - for a bunch of friends too.

I understand a number of them do ship too. The best english detail is on Trip Advisor - eg:
        https://www.tripadvisor.com.au/Attraction_Review-g308272-d62…

What's amazing is the service - each glasses mall has over 50 shops. So many frames to choose from - the best ones are from Korea, but a whole range. The eye test is free if you don't have your prescription. Manufacture time is around 10 minutes.

This is even better than the normal cheap China experience of a 'gift' mailed to your doorstep — unfortunately you do need a bargain airfare to get there ($370 return for me last time).

Being China, and differently advanced to the Western world — they are unlikely to sell via an individual shop website, more likely through WeChat (instant messaging) or AliExpress and similar.

        • +1

If i went to China i'd almost certainly get arrested.
I have no idea what for, but i'm pretty sure that would be the outcome…

          Thanks anyway.

    • +1

Wow do you just send your prescription to them? Mind sharing a link?

Xiaomi Mi 300mbps Wi-Fi Repeater 2 - These are great.

Years ago the $99 or less Huawei budget pre-paid phones were the best value Chinese manufactured phones. $40 Huawei Y550 4G,$89.50 Huawei G526 4G,$39 Huawei Y201.

Huawei build quality is excellent. The screens are built tough as nails. Bug free operating system. Battery efficient. Good signal reception. Beginner friendly Android interface (EMUI).

Unfortunately Huawei is no longer a cheapo chinese brand. Google even uses them for building their Google Pixel and Nexus 6P.

    • +2

True. I'm still happy with my Y550.

  • Micro USB to Type-C adapter. Bought a few of these and work like a charm.

  • +1

bitzwolf. (are they sure they are Chinese company? I mean they make quality stuff.)

  • +2

Xiaomi Piston IIs - still using daily after numerous years.

I had purchased ~$80 Sennheisers before and didn't realise how much they sucked in comparison with the Pistons.

  • +7

Every Xiaomi product I own. From their cameras to their headphones. The mi box is alright (android tv is a bit limiting). The wireless range extender is not to shabby. They're hands down the best budget orientated device maker that specialize in a range of product categoriesbar none

    • -7

Their products are great. However, the ones that require phone apps to control need permission to access everything on your phone and send it back to China.

      • +2

Like China cares about your porn browsing habits or the colour of your interior walls or what you messaged your wife/gf/kids… if they want to know I was flying my drone in the park for an hour, then boo yah to them…

Maybe you could post up the deal you got on tin foil hats?

  • +2

a couple of heavily discounted bags of chinese frozen berries from coles.. bloody BAAAAGIN!

  • Belts, specifically these rail type belts, 20 bucks, buckle is heavy and mechanism feels solid, belt itself is relatively thick and seems like it'll last a while, works great, very impressed as I've had a shit of a time finding decent belts without paying something stupid.

    • Just ordered one of the belts. If it lasts a year I'd be happy. Leather ones from Myer struggle to do that these days.

    • Thx, will give them a try. Got a couple at Myer and they didnt last long.

    • Same here. Been looking for decent belt that don't cost too much.

  • +1

    Evolution.

    1. Torches. I remember forking out a fortune for a Maglite with massive batteries that weighed a ton. Then i woke up one day and there were all these cheap & powerful LED's on the market.

    2. Watches. Some good quality cheap watches available. If it's not waterproof, they're cheap.

Fountain pens from China are surprisingly good, if you know what models to get.

Jinhao X450 and Jinhao X750 are OK, amazing if you can source a good replacement nib (Jowo #6 nib from GouletPens or somewhere else work wonders to the pen).
Wing Sung 698 is a piston filler pen with a surprisingly good nib. It's even compatiable with some of Pilot fountain pen nibs.

That said, you can always end up with a bad batch (QC issues) which may require bit of tweaking. It's kinda why I don't recommend them to someone who've never used a fountain pen before.

    • I feel very nostalgic about Hero fountain pens (and Hero Washable Blue ink) which I used throughout my primary school years.

    • Thanks, will check these out.

  • Real Madrid Jersey…..the material and construction is so much stronger than my legit one. Still looks new after years. Crazy good find

    • This just reminded me of the replica 2003 Arsenal Ljungberg #8 home jersey that I still wear (because it's still in very good condition) even though I'm not as crazy about football as I used to be.

    • Mind to share links or the website? Thanks.

  • I'm loving my Tigernu laptop bag off Aliexpress atm. $45ish but feels like great quality and fits more than my $90 backpack I was using before. They do the rip offs of the anti-theft backpacks you see off Kickstarter.

Also I shop on aliexpress for fake Japanese brand wallets and bags. The wallet I'm using is a very accurate rip off of a $150 wallet for $30 and the casual backpack I got is a great $40 rip off of a limited edition $200 bag.

    • +1

Can you please post links for the wallet and backpack? Thanks! :)

      • +2

Msmo store since my comment got unpublished

    • Better than the Culture Kings one on eBay, which is the original anti-theft?

      • I can't compare since I never seen the culture kings one

  • Anyone can suggest me a good cheap backpack for schools/work? thx

    • +2

I bought this one from Banggood and it's the best back pack I have ever owned.

It's made of really strong canvas type material. This thing has so many pouches and pockets in it. I have used it to pack as my onboard luggage for flights because of the amount of stuff I can jam in it for it's size. And being a tactical back pack, there are also other attachments you can add to it if you need even more space. Lots of adjustments to make it comfortable to longer walks and straps to keep everything tight.

For under $20 delivered, it's a pretty good quality back pack

    Megir M2011 for $8 i think.

Which must be a bit of a comedown considering your username.

      • +1

hahaha. I enjoy watches of all kind. I am not a chronograph person so I bought a cheap one just to have a chronograph.

    • When was this?

      • March this year. I think I may have a coupon / voucher / points of sort that dropped the price further from $11usd or something from gearbest.

    This:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Wireless-Mini-PIR-MP-Alert-Infrared-…

Modified it to include 4 PIR sensors (one in each wheel well of my car). I received an SMS every time a parking inspector chalked my tires.

    • +1

Nice! Where did you get that idea from?

      • +1

Too many tickets, and too lazy to walk out and check every hour like others in the office were doing.

    • Is there a guide on how to get this to work?

      • +2

No guide (didn't really want to post anything for fear it would discourage continued tyre marking, especially given not all cities still practice it). Fairly simple concept though. You may even be able to find a four sensor system now.

    • Idea is good but having a active sim, isn't that bit expensive?

      • +1

        Amaysim pay as you go.

$2-3 per month is better than $110 per fine

  • i gotta say VJJB n1's for aliexpress kicked just about every other chi-fi headphone (under $30) including KZ for dead i got mine for 28

    Pretty much anything Xiaomi Branded…
It can't last, surely. But wow, they have truly mastered the art of cheap, durable and functional.

    • pressure washer snow foam bottle/nozzle attachment, cost $20 delivered, friends identical one with branded label was almost $200

    • cree branded LED torches, $1-4 delivered

still wearing this belt after nearly 3 years.

    • Want to but need a much smaller size (~32")

      • Any ones of that design, the buckle comes off (it's basically a clamp) and you can cut it shorter to any size you want.

They're great. The only thing to watch out for is the buckle is liable to scratch. Ideally pick one with a dark / black buckle, or treat it carefully, don't throw it around like I do.

        • Thanks!
