  • Still deciding whether to buy a switch, is it worth having even if you already have a PS4? Is this more for kids?

    • +6

Different use case IMO, The Switch shines in more on the go play versus the PS4 which is more at sit at home console.

I'd say this is for any Nintendo fan, young and old :)

    • +5

      awesome price..

just do it mate. worth it for zelda alone, then you have mario kart, splatoon2 and mario odyssey at least…

    • +4

Worth it alone for Zelda, Mario x Rabbids, Mario Kart and Mario Odyssey for me. Looking forward to Yoshi and Kirby games.

If you're into portable gaming this would be great for you. If you're also into indie games you can have a good number of them on the go.

      • +1

Zelda, Mario x Rabbids, Mario Kart and Mario Odyssey - bought all but only playing mario x rabbits at the moment.

        • bought the switch and now looking to buy games. Gonna start with Zelda. Target has it for $79, not sure if this is the best deal atm.

      • will consider after finishing Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wild DLC. Cheers

    • +1

Watch these two videos and see if you think they are fun. Totally worth it in my opinion

      • +1

        Okay I'm sold, ordering now.

    • +3

They are truely amazing if you have to commute; I use mine on the bus to work (about 50 minutes), makes the commute feel like nothing!

    • +1

I'm gonna wait a little longer, possibly a year. They're ramping up supply so I expect the price to drop around $300 once the hype drops. I cant wait to get my hands on it.

      • +1

By waiting a year, you have a year less before it becomes EoL - so if there is a price drop it's justified by a shorter length before no new games.

        • +1

IMO it is better to get a console later in its life, you can play all the good games right away instead of having to wait for releases.

    • +3

I'm almost 30 and have a sweet gaming PC.. All I've been playing since it came out is Mario! It's (profanity) great. Can't get that and Zelda on PS4

      • -2

It looks similar to Super Mario Galaxy 1&2 which were great games. You can play those on a PC.

    • +2

      Just do it!!
If you use public transport, or like to sit on the toilet for a while, you'll get your moneys worth.

I wish I bough mine sooner. FYI. I got it for $380.. forget exactly, it was the last ebgames deal.

  • +10

Is there any other place that has it cheaper atm?

Get HN to price match and get an even better deal!

    • I like your style!

    • +15

      Target have it for $449

      https://www.target.com.au/p/nintendo-switch-console/60258489

I'll be heading down this afternoon to see if they can price match, thanks!

      • Good work thanks for the heads up!

      • Let us know how you go :)

      • +11

Thanks for the lead mate. Got them to price match online for $449. Ordered one for click and collect. Cheers.

        • Did you have to pay straight away or when you pick up?

        • +1

By "price match online", do you mean you went down there and asked them to price match Target's online price?

        • +1

          @Arsenal:

"Simply show us evidence of our competitor’s advertised price for the identical product advertised either 7 days before or 7 days after your purchase."

          :)

        • +2

          @montorola:
Straight away. They generate a unique link which has the discounted price. You simply have to click on the link it opens a normal order page with the discounted price, you then have to choose the delivery method and pay. Hope this helps :)

        • +1

          @Arsenal:
Nope. So basically go the HN website, click on the chat window and ask them to do a price match. Share the Target link with them, if it matches their price match policy (which it does) they will generate and share a unique URL with you for you to order and make the payment.

        • +1

@maverick1: Much appreciated! $349 Switch is going to be a great xmas present for the family.

        • @Arsenal: my thoughts exactly! now looking to buy the games.

        • @maverick1: I'll only need Mario Odyssey to begin with, so i'll be keeping an eye for a deal on that leading up to christmas. My wife loves playing the Mario games and my 6yr old has recently become obsessed with watching them, so its a perfect match! Hopefully he can get used to using a controller rather than an iPad by controlling Cappy.

        • @Arsenal: haha..you could also look at the Mario Bundle. Its been discussed below.
I am looking to start with Zelda.

        • @maverick1:

Yeah i had considered the bundle, but from what i understand we don't get the Odyssey branded carry case in the Aus bundle and i actually think the neon joypads will be more popular with the kids so i'll save a little more buying things separately.

        • I dare say that Harvey Norman wouldn't match EB's deal of Switch and Rabbids for $489?

      • Can confirm. Just got them to price match at nunawading VIC for $449

  • +2

So, do I need an American Express card to be eligible for this deal?

Edit: sorry it prob seems like a stupid question, I’m guessing I prob do.

    • Yeah you need to have an American Express issued card, I believe Bank issues AMEX cards don't qualify.

      • +1

        You believe wrong

        • Yes, go on..

        • +6

@Joe146: Just personal experience, but I'm able to apply the offer to my CBA issued AMEX.
I've also redeemed other offers from AMEX Connect with this card too.

        • @queron:

Yep can confirm it worked on my NAB issued Amex card

        • @queron:
The order page didn't like my CBA Amex because it only has a 3 digit CID, not a 4 digit CVV

        • @ajd4096: Is there not a 4 digit number on the front of the card?

        • @carlenet: Nope, CBA is sending me out a new one. I'll wander over to HN and pay there.

      • Ah ok, thanks heaps for the reply :)

    • You also need to enrol it in the offer.

  • Says out of stock for me :(

  • I don't have an Amex, unfortunately. :'(

    • -3

just applied for free anuual fee for life Amex Essential?
worth the 20 for 10 cashback event and christmas Harvey norman.

you can PM me for a referral link :P

  • Great find! Got my grey pickup in CBD :)

  • How to apply for a cash back ?

    • Its automatic back onto your card

  • +3

The limited edition Mario bundle is also $547 so $447 after cashback. I'm thinking I'll grab this one.

edit Target is $539 so I'm going to use the online chat to price match.. in queue now

    • +1

      529 at big w

    • +3

      $529 at Big W

      • Hey thanks guys I'm in the chat now so I've linked that. I'll let you know how it goes

    • +6

edit: They are price matching $529 @ Big W. Processing now.

      • Who are you price matching with?

        • Big W, see johnno1987's link above

      • +1

Isn't it cheaper to price match the console for $349 and then buy the game from Big W for $62? Maybe I'm missing something.
        Total price = $411 vs $429

        • 429 is Mario limited edition
          419 is normal edition

        • +1

Possibly but I want the bundle with the two red joycons, and the LE Mario Odyssey box. Call it fanboyism. I can also assume this Switch will be newer than the regular ones and possibly have less of the launch console problems.

        • @Putnum: silly question, how to do online chat with big w? or you email them?

        • @saihot: You online chat with HN and ask them to price match BigW by providing them the link.

        • @MJ101: right, just did price matched. one more question, I am using Westpac Amex card, when I check out, do i need to use Amex express check out?

        • +1

@saihot: I used credit card option and put my amex card details. And I have already recvd the spend confo email from Amex.

        • +1

@maverick1:Thats great! Thanks for your help! Done too!

        • @saihot: I didnt use amex exoress and already got the cashback email from amex.

        • @betterlife:

How where do you get the Mario limited for $429?
          I'm ready to buy!!!

        • @uncydave: I believe the trick is to price match Big W's price of $529 (https://www.bigw.com.au/product/nintendo-switch-super-mario-…) as mentioned and linked by a couple of users above at Harvey Norman and combine with the AMEX deal to get $100 credit.

    • What is the different between the limited edition vs the normal Switch + Mario?

      • The red joycons and the box.

        • Thanks!

        • -1

@MJ101: and I think you get a mario themed case for the switch. And the mario game is digital with the bundle

        • @hoftos: I didn’t think we got the case in Australia?

        • +2

@hoftos: My understanding is that in the Australian bundle we don't get the themed case, and we get a physical copy of the game rather than digital.

        • @Arsenal:
          Really? That sucks.

        • @hoftos: bundle actually has the physical cart

        • @Arsenal: I think you are comparing AU bundle with US bundle. IIRC JP/HK bundle has both a themed case and a physical copy of the game.

        • @sh4wnc:

Wish someone who bought the bundle would confirm

Since this is what the HM description says:

          What's In The Box?
          1 x Nintendo Switch Console
          1 x Joy-Con (L) Red
          1 x Joy-Con (R) Red
          1 x Super Mario Odyssey
1 x Set of Joy Con Straps
          1 x High-Speed HDMI Cable
          1 x Nintendo Switch Dock
          1 x Joy-Con Grip
1 x Nintendo Switch AC Adapter

          Nothing about the case.

        • @KBZ: Don't know why you reply me. It's confirmed that AU bundle doesn't have the themed case. There are a lot of unboxing videos posted by Aussies on YouTube.

        • -1

@CaptainNewspeak: ah okay, just heard from big w rep that their bundle has digital code even though box says physical. maybe it was just that big w store

  • Does this come with any games built in?

    • +1

The standard bundle does not, no.

  • Oh man, I would definitely jump onto this if I had an American Express card.. Gonna have to ask around now! haha

  • +4

The console is $449 @ Target, price match to get it for $349.

    • Nice, I didn't know they had a price matching policy. This would be the best way of getting it.

    • is this actually doable? i've been told targets price matching excludes "toys" which includes nintendo consoles/games but might have just been a douche behind the counter.

      • Definitely, you don’t need to worry about targets price match policy as you’re doing it at HN

  • +4

Here's a harvey norman code to get the Switch Mario bundle down to 529 (pricematched from target)

    3WBGAZHY2CVBIWPQ

Was going to use it but I might just get the console by itself

    • +2

      Is this unique or generic?

      • +1

it think it is a unique code, HN gave me a unique link to get the price match

    • yeah i think a bit cheaper getting it separate

      • Yea I think so too. Should get the game at Big W for $62 or less.

Unless you really want the two maroon controllers.

    • Code expired. Will get my own thanks.

  • anyone know if theres much difference between zelda on wii u and switch? im still undecided if i want to get a switch or not? since wii u is keeping the kids busy and ive been playing zelda for weeks now … a little here and there.

    • In terms of in game content, no.

In terms of performance, yes. Switch is 900p docked, 720p portable and with post-release patches mostly 30fps throughout the game. It also is meant to have higher quality environmental sounds. If this is true, that could be noticeable given how much BOTW relies on ambient environmental sounds.

Wii U is 720p and often struggles to maintain 30fps.

    • Better graphics & framerate, from what I know. 60fps on switch, 30 on Wii U.

[edit] Nope, must have made that up : https://www.kotaku.com.au/2017/03/zelda-breath-of-the-wilds-…

Jeez, that's pretty bad that it's not 60 on Switch.

      • If you really want 60fps, you can emulate it on the PC using a Wii U emulator. Can be played at a higher res too, with mods.

  • +2

Surely there will be xmas specials on switch, offer expires on 31 December. There is still time, prices are not going to rise.
