Age of Empires III $0.10 Games for Windows

1694

Hey,

NOTE: Must download the client, will not work if you buy from website.

First post, should be a good one!

Age of Empires III for only 10cents, need to login and download from Windows Marketplace.

Need to download the Marketplace client and sign in, download from http://www.gamesforwindows.com/en-CA/Download/ and launch the client, will show as 10cents.

Enjoy

Edit: I believe this is the Collector's Edition, which includes expansions. Can anyone confirm?

Edit2: Confirmed it does include Expansions.

Edit3: Courtesy of Anthonettex: “Due to the overwhelming success of the Age of Empires III sale, we have temporarily run out of keys to unlock the game. You can still buy the game at this amazing price and you will get/see a key in the next week. When new keys are added to the system you will be auto-assigned a key, there is no need to call support or take any other action from your end. We will post here on the forums when the keys are available and the next time you click ‘View Game Keys’ for the game you should be assigned one.

Edit4: People now having issues with billing and account services with Microsoft, would strongly advise that we call this deal expired now to avoid anyone having to go through a customer service center for a refund.

Thank you for your patience and we hope you enjoy the game.”

    Courtesy of whirlpool?

    • It doesn't matter where it's from? A bargain is a bargain regardless :)

With whirlpool the way it is, it could even have been found elsewhere but never posted.

  • LOL now that's a bargain

    • great first post!

  • -1

    Is it a good game???

    • +1

Its good:) I played it again a couple of months ago AOE III and the expansions and its still a good amount of fun and to kill time which i wanted to.

    • It's weird, quite a shift from the first two games. Though really if you're wondering if it's worth it, it's ten cents. You can rarely get anything for 10 cents these days :(

  • "Unfortunately your Xbox LIVE account region is not currently supported. Check back with us soon as we continue to add regions."

    • I'm currently downloading it just fine, with an Aussie Xbox Live account.

    • I get the same error

      • Same error here too.

        • Me too.

        • +4

You need to download GFW client and buy from there

        • +2

same error….. who negged his post???

        • Same error for me too.

        • need to get it through the download client, but mine has froze on 103mb

  • -2

    lol RTS on a console?

    • +5

Doesn't it say Windows on the title?

      • lol ok my bad, thought xbox live was for xbox

    • -3

      good, troll is good.

  • Does anyone know what the file size would be roughly? (for those of us still on tiny download plans)

    Awesome deal anyway though.

    • Windows Marketplace download manager lists it as being 2.75GB in size.

  • +6

If anyone is having issues, download the client and buy it through there. It works fine.

    • +1

      I can confirm this works!

  • +1

It's the complete collection (game+2exp) as shown when accessed through marketplace app.

  • +15

oh my gawt wat a ripoff

    • +16

I think 3 people missed the sarcasm

      • +18

I think 2 of those three people got angry at me

  • -3

I'm assuming you get a genuine cdkey/serial that would work with online multiplayer?

    • +1

I was assuming the same thing, but the page does say "Players: 1" and does't mention online multiplayer…

      • Yeah, noticed that as well, though its probably just a typo.

  • +2

Used the client, downloading now. Thanks!

  • +1

    It works :)

  • +4

    Can you pay by paypal?

    • +1

Only credit card and MS points.

      • Damn Microsoft need to get with the times. Still 10 cents must only be a few MSP, luckily I have some already.

    • +4

negged for asking a legit question…. man some people are really quick with the negs
      and cheers eddiemess.
too bad i dont have a cc or willing to pay $25 bucks for 1500 points. oh well, you can't get everything in life.

      • +2

dun worry i brought it back up for you :)
no Paypal is a no go for me either

  • can anyone confirm multiplayer is included?

    • anyway bought it it to test, for 10c singleplayer/multiplayer its worth it even for the one time play and delete.

+1 if the multiplayer works, absolute steal

    • Yes multiplayer works.

I just registered for ES online in game and was able to view the current games being hosted.

  • saw in slickdeals a few hours ago. Nice post.

  • +1

BTW, this deal will finish tomorrow, so don't leave it too long if interested…

  • +1

I like the ability to use Xbox Live points rather then CC !!

I havent used my account for 18 months and still have 100 points

    Nice find!

  • +1

On a slightly related note, I noticed Bioshock was just $2.95.

  • +1

it is single player, saw it at: Game Capabilities Player1
it also ask me for 25 digit cd-key, where can i find it.

    • +3

Downloads -> Click 'Game: Age of EMpires III' -> Click 'View Game Keys'

      • thank you, got it.

    • Online works.

    • Download only. Didn't see an option to post the disc.

    • +13

      is Caps really necessary?

      • +8

It is when you want an answer to the obvious

    • no its a online download, hence why its so cheap!

  • so is it 4 xbox or can u play it just on your computer??? Might sound like a dumb question but everyone is talking about xbox

    • +1

It's for PC. Your Xbox 360 gamertag can be used with Games For Windows Live and vice versa. Microsoft owns both GFWL and Xbox Live.

  • Just bought the game :)

  • +3

P.S. can confirm that it is the complete collection! all for 0.10c

  • good game, still play it, but I paid $200 for it + expansion.

  • +2

Gah! be careful with the GFW client if your on a limited internet quota. Just took a look at it, prick of a thing had already finished downloading! With digital games, Im used to steam or a link to the files, so that it starts downloading when, oh i dont know I actually start it downloading? usually in the offpeak time. unbelievable. What if i was on wireless?

    • +1

Usually you wouldn't be able to download that fast using wireless.

      • how is that relevant in the least?

  • Excellent work good sir!

I've been hanging out for the complete collection for a while but it's always still expensive in the shops, or slightly less expensive from overseas imports.

  • Awesome first post sir. Thank you for sharing.

  • Wow, for an almost 3Gig file it was a super quick download… under 10 minutes here..

    • +2

You were downloading at around 4.5 megs a second (if it took 10 minutes)? Or 36mbps. Which ISP are you using?

  • +2

Worked fine, though after checking my bank account, I was charged the 10c, plus a further $2. No idea why.

    • hmmm i was charged the $2 as well..

    • I got charged an extra $2 also. In my bank account it says EFTPOS Debit Flexi Purchase or something. Maybe because it was an EFTPOS transaction. I gotta get me a Visa Credit Card. American Express sucks online, hardly anyone takes it.

  • Is anyone else having it show up for $2.10 on their bank.
I bought it with a visa debit card and it is showing a "$0.10" charge but also a separate "$2.00" charge from Microsoft as well.

Any one know what is going on, as I only bought this i am wondering if this is a charge from the bank?

    • +1

apparently it's a credit check which will get refunded in a few days according to someone on whirlpool

      • +1

Thanks for the info, I will have to keep an eye on it.

  • Yes, $2.10 is still a huge bargain for this game. No it's not a physical copy (I'm fairly sure it costs more than $0.10 for the ink to print the manual…) It's not quite as good as AOE II, and has a very "Last of the Mohicans" vibe going on.

  • According to some people on Whirlpool, the $2 is a credit check and will be refunded?

  • +1

I can confirm that the $2 is a credit check and will be refunded. It's happened to me before.

    • Thanks, Because I couldn't afford $2.10 for 3 games!
What a steal, I think back in 2006 it was I bought just the AOE3 (not the collection) for 100 bucks.

  • Even if it's $2.10 it's too cheap.

  • +1

    10 MS points!

  • Is the installation file standalone, or in some way tethered to this Marketplace thing?

    • You have to install through the Marketplace software.

      • Followup: the Games for Windows Marketplace settings tab shows the download directory, and the game is downloaded as 6 cab files. Extracted the contents, uninstalled Games for Windows and Windows Live ID signin (recorded product key first), ran setup.exe, install went really slowly for some unknown reason and after about 10 mins an error popped up claiming it failed. But game seems to be working fine.

  • is this for PC game?

    • Games for Windows so yes, PC.

  • +2

Well on the way to deal of the week.
Good find, Whirlpool… err, I mean eddiemess!

  • how big is the game?

  • Sweet deal. You can use 10 Microsoft points also.

    Just bought it.

  • I have a boxed copy sitting behind me but this is much easier.
    Viva la generation lazy

  • BIOSHOCK IS - $2.95!!! AT THE MOMENT ALSO. - Sorry for caps but thought it would grab peoples attention more. :)
Sorry if my caps upset anyone.

    • wow i got negative for showing another bargain, someones a bit backwards me thinks.

    • +1

Thanks. But dang it, I take it this has finished, because Bioshock for Windows is listed as $29.95 on the client software (when logged in as an Aussie)

Or am I looking at the wrong thing? Thanks.

      US and Canadian it's $19.99

      http://www.gamesforwindows.com/en-US/Search/?q=bioshock
      http://www.gamesforwindows.com/en-CA/Search/?q=bioshock

Just noticed, Bioshock 2 is listed at $9.99 on those search pages.

      • Might have to look for it whilst in the client, not on the website.

Can't check myself atm, but I think that may be why.

      • +1

Nah price has jumped back to $19.99, last night when I posted the original comment it was $1.99 or something on website for US/CA, and in marketplace for AUS for $2.95. I bought it so I can't check how much it is in AUS market place. But assume it has gone back up.

  • +2
    • Great first post
    • Cheap way for MS to get people to install their server software - who knows what it will do to our systems, but for now, rejoice
    • As some others have posted be careful with the downloads, which start immediately. I was unable to pause my download at all. I actually had to cancel it, then restart it (from the beginning), and only then did the pause button actually work.
  • Anyone know if you can store the download for reinstalling? (Like steam has a way of archiving or something so you don't have to redownload the entire thing if you need to reinstall)

    • Can't guarantee this works, but since it downloads the entire thing first BEFORE installing, it seems you can take a 'backup' of the .cab files (check the settings for where they are stored).

I did this, then installed the game which removed the .cab files when it installed. I'm guessing that if I need to reinstall at some stage, I would just copy the .cab files back into the DOWNLOADS directory.

This is in no way 'cracking' or breaking the game, but just a possible way of not having to redownload the entire 2.5Gb if I ever reinstall windows.

      Hope it helps!

  • Bought it using points and downloaded it but it prompts me for the game key during install. I notice when I check the download under "View Game Keys" it shows "Game Activation Key: No key assigned" and "LIVE Access Code: No key assigned"?
