820

Hey OzB,

It’s finally live on the web and available in store.

Let the phone gifting begins.

For selected phones only, you’ll get $20 off $80 Phone Plan from Virgin for the life of the plan. Details on the plan are on the web. Select the phones and go to the $80 plan, and if you click the drop down button you’ll see the offer on these phones :

Android : S7, S8, S8+, Sony XZ Premium

Apple : iPhone 6s, iPhone 7 256GB, iPhone 7+ 128GB

For S8&S8+ , you can bundle it with the S3 Frontier for extra $15p/m, not bad since you’re going to get two devices instead of one.

For S7, you can bundle it with Gear Fit2 Pro for extra $8p/m.

This offer is compatible with the $100 credit offer!

I may not be able to answer your questions here as I am working today :)

Don’t forget cashrewards if you’re signing up online!

Cracking deal OP! getting one now.

  • +12

$60/month for 24 months. Minimum payment of $1440
S8 market price is around $800, plus $100 credit offer.
Price of the plan comes down to $540 over 24 months or $22.50/mo for 16gb data per month.

Far out that's a good deal. I don't need a new phone but I'm tempted to sign up anyway

    • +5

you'll find it hard to sell for 800$ atm BNIB on gumtree/ozb/fb atm (sydney anyway); there's so many people selling it from the telstra f&f deal

    • +1

The phone plan is crazy good. Kogan sells for $25/month for 16gb 1 year prepaid.

      • +2

Its good for the first year, after 12 months it will be crap.

  • $15 extra for Gear S3? That's not a bad deal.

    Who does Virgin use? Optus?

    • +1

      yep Optus 4G

  • +6

The Telstra friends and family deal was superior

    • Yes, this deal is for optus network lover…lol

  • +3

Thanks OP good deal but I wish iPhone X was included in this deal:( Maybe I'm asking for too much!

    • +1

I’m on the same boat as you! Would love X to be included :(

  • +2

Looking at their plans, they have a $68 plan with 2GB data, but I can also go $69 for 5GB of data. 3GB data for $1.. Tough decision. Or you can pay $73 ($4 more than that) to go back down to 1GB. And then $2 more than that brings you from 1GB to 9GB.

    Now I'm confused.

  • I'm currently paying 40$ a month on Optus sim only 15gb plan. For an extra $20 I can get an s8 hmmmm… might be a good deal. Any cashrewards applicable to this?

    • I might leave it to cashrewards staff or others to confirm this, afaik if you use the link to virgin web store via cashrewards website or the cashrewards toolbar to activate, it should do as this is 24months plan

      • +8

100% applicable. New Virgin customers will get $45 cashback. Please ensure Cashrewards is your FINAL click before purchasing so your cookie isn't attributed to another channel (yes, even OzBargain). The common mistake members make is they activate the toolbar then surf to other websites and return to buy. Doesn't work that way. Once you've activated the toolbar or clicked out from Cashrewards, go nowhere until your purchase is complete and you'll be fine :)

        • -1

to make 100% sure, before you click purchase button or finalise the order, just click from cashrewards again, that's what I'm doing to make sure I'm not get distracted from clicking some pron website.

  • I added S8 to cart under the $80 plan but the total does not get reduced to $60?

    • The cart will show you $20 off & $100 credit promo, that’s the one you need to see :)

      • Not showing in the cart what's going on there.

      • +2

Still shows as $80 per month when i try to sign up. It does not drop to $60. Otherwise i would have completed the application by now.

      • For new customer, the cart will show you $20 off, $100 credit promo and cash reward $45?

    • +1

Same story here.. Whatta waste of time to enter all those personal details and realise $20 offer is not showing up!

      • +3

Just checked with the sales representative via online chat. The $20 discount will be applied to your monthly bill once the package is activated.

        • Will i have to pay $60, or $80 and they will return $20 as store credit to use on their products??

        • +1

          @nmk:
Was advised that Only $59 will be debited from the account. $20 promotion will be applied in your monthly bill which brings down the $79 to $59

        • @fishnchips: thanks

  • Is there any deal for iPhone 8 Plus ?

    • +1

Not that I know of, sorry

    • I panicked after seeing this deal as I had just made an order with Virgin yesterday for the iPhone 8 Plus! There's still the $100 credit back for signing up before end of January 2018 though. Definitely not as good as the $20 off per month but I wanted the 8 Plus and it seems like Virgin has the best contract plan deal.

  • +2

Definitely getting this over Telstra family & friends deal.

It comes with $300 international credit which Telstra plan doesn't have.

And I don't need to provide Telstra "Control Team" with my three ids, utility bill, and three latest payslips / bank statements which all have to be brought in Telstra store which is ridiculous.

    • +3

I didn't have to do any of that online…

    • +1

It comes with $300 international credit which Telstra plan doesn't have.

Not to mention, unlimited standard international calls to 7 different countries which Telstra again doesn't have.

      • +1

And unlimited music too guys! This plan would be too much for me and just bought an outright iphone 7. If I hadn't I would be tempted for the s8.

  • +1

    I can't see the $20pm discount on the iPhone 7+ 128GB????

    • +2

$80 (with $20 off) Phone Plan + $19 Phone Cost

It would be $99 a month without the discount.

  • +3

no deals for the Note8 :(

  • +1

Yea if they tickle my Note8 ego ill jump

  • I think this came out far too late as most people already took the telstra deal.

  • Here I am paying $79/m on my current Virgin contract. Dammit!

  • Got s8 thanks

  • no deal for huawei mate 10 :(

  • Here I am paying $75 a month for a 16gb iPhone 6s with 5gb data :(

    • Thanks to OP just ordered S8+ and frontier watch

    • +1

Give me your Ozbargain badge and don't hit your head on the way out.

      • I started this plan 14 months ago though

        • +1

Regardless, it's no need for a neg.
btw even if it was 14 months ago, that's still a lot for not much.

        • @pennypincher98:I didn't mean to haha how do I change it? Also how do I ask them to make the plan cheaper

        • +1

@Comperchick34: I think you can't revoke it as its over an hour old.
          Get on live chat maybe?
I got $7 off my monthly bill on Vodafone just for asking lol. Although now my contract is up and never again. They couldn't try and sell me with another discount.

Or, see how much it is to re-contract and upgrade your virgin plan. Not sure about virgin, but other networks I am sure let you re-contract onto another one of their plans after 12 months, provided it is an upgrade.

  • Please note that this includes Intl calls to 10 countries , $100 Credit and $50 cahrewards. So way better than Telstra for a $ to $ if your coverage is same where you live. Plus $15 a month for the S3 frontier is just awesome :D

Do anyone know if they supply a Tax Invoice if you get this in store

    • if u r thinking TRS then no, they don't do tax invoice as you haven't technically paid for the phone in full.

      • -1

Lol always got one with Vodafone and Telstra. 99.99% people don't even asked for a Tax Invoice in the recent JB $200 and then S8 deal, I got an invoice for the S8 for $1199, hahhaha

  • When does this deal run out? Currently on a plan that lasts another couple months…

Edit: Whoops missed it on their site (Sign up by 31/01/2018.)

    • If this deal is available till 31/01/2018,i might wait till end of december for any other deals from optus or vodafone etc before jumping in.

  • +1

Is there anyway at all to make it just a 12 month plan??? Also, how does the $100 credit work? Does it just mean I won't have to pay the bill for the first month and a bit?

    • Simple. Just cancel after 12 months and there's your plan done.

just pay termination fees and the remaining months of the contract

      • lol. Unfortunately, I think the termination fees will not make this such a good deal… I had to pay out quite a bit on my last plan with them because I moved overseas before the plan was up :(

        • Virgin payout fees are only the cost of the handset. So 12 months from now, your payout fee would be 50% of the device price at time of sign up.

        • Yeah, I just chatted them and if I got correct info, I'd have to pay out $474 if I cancelled after 12 months so it'd be $1194 for 12 months (or $1094 if we take the $100 credit off). I think I'd be better off finding the handset on special and sticking with my Coles prepaid sim maybe.. although I don't get as many frequent flyer points that way :/ hmmm…

  • Samsung S8 or Sony XZ Premium? From the specs, it looks like XZ Premium is more superior but Samsung pay, I can see this feature will be very useful now and in the future. Please help with decision on these 2.

    • -1

never get a Sony. Slows down real hard after a few months. And those huge bezels..

      • but it has better cameras & more juice in the battery

        • most phone uses Sony image sensors, all depends on the software. Sony's android skin isn't so great either. Battery drainer

        • @jayzorz:
Thanks mate. The review says "Good Battery Life" but "Underwhelming Camera". In terms of the bezel, not too fuss about that as I'm more on the internal specs. Oh btw, do you know if these latest Sony phones still have the overheating issue?

        • +1

          @MID:

I've checked another review, the battery isn't great due to the 4K display. Just a mixed bag really. link

        • @jayzorz: Probably, I will end up with Samsung S8 this time around. Thanks.

  • For those who want the iPhone 7, is it a minimum of $79 a month?

    • Yep, it used to be $99 before the $20 discount came off.

Proof that iPhones are such a rip off? The S8 is cheaper lol.

      • +1

Ah k- the OP kinda gives the impression they are all $60.

I'm considering getting the S8, selling it to potentially source a refurb/used iPhone somewhere.

        • +1

Just as long as you know the market is currently flooded with new S8's given the recent Telstra deal :)

        • +2

@pennypincher98: Valid point. Probably not worth the trouble… I'll stick with my 6S

        • +1

@ycon: Yeah I reckon just stick with your 6S for now, so many scammers and trolls out there and that's if someone even decides to contact you. They'll probably be another deal in the lead up to Christmas with some network.

  • +1

Really good deal, if they only had HTC on offer I would jump in right away, please add HTC :)

    • +1

Yeah would be great! No real good deals for HTC on any network, and just coming out of my contract in a few days. Please add HTC :)

  • FYI- it's 1GB extra than Telstra's deal (for the S8) as seen here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/342769. Telstra's doesn't include free Music (eg Spotify) data, but it IS on Telstra's network which is better than Virgin IMO.

    • No International calls on Telstra, this includes Unlimited Calls to 7 countries and 300 min for rest, that alone is worth $15 a month easy when u compare to Skype or cheap VOIP

    • Not really I find Telstra network pretty average. I often get no 4g connection at the cbd train stations and Richmond. Basically anywhere there are a lot of ppl in a small area I get dropped to 3G and will struggle to come back to 4g till afew stations out of cbd. I get no such problems with my partners Optus 4g.

    • Depends a lot on your use case. In mine, where I don't go out rural, and my wife's family's house is a horrid black spot for Telstra, but gets great signal on Optus, then the Telstra network is worse for me and my wife.
If you work rural I think its a no brainer but if you're metro, Telstra doesn't really offer any advantage and may be worse.

How can you gift a phone plan? Seems like a poor gift. Here have this additional liability but I've paid the first month.

  • Awesome deal.

  • +2

Can someone try use UNWRAP3GB coupon after checking out with sales. Ask them to add it manually.

Might give an extra 3GB for the life of the plan:)

  • Pretty sure you get 10,000 velocity points too?

  • Tried via webchat asking them to add UNWRAP3GB

They were nice and said although they would like to help, this is for an old promotion.

  • Are these phone locked to virgin?

    • No, all phones from Virgin are unlocked.

  • Is this online only or in store?

  • S7 and S8 prices are same :0

what is cash rewards and How do you use?? basic tut pls.

  • My S8+ and S3 frontier was delivered today , very happy

    • How long did it take to arrive after ordering.

      • 24hrs ordered it friday at 12 and delivered saturday at 12 with startrack express , wasn't expecting until monday but startrack is operating of weekends leading into xmas

  • Can someone explain how $100 credit works? I don’t understand

  • iPhone 8 64GB/256GB now available on this, with $0/$10 phone repayment on top…

  • Looks like Iphone 8 is not in the list :( …
If you click on iphone 8 it takes me to S8…
@zzyss could you please confirm if its only a website error ?

    • They're all adding to cart correctly for me? Let me know which size/colour if you're still having problems.

      • When I add iPhone 8, it show $80, not $60

        • As long as it's showing the "Get $20 off each month + $100 bonus credit" message the offer applies even though it still shows $80 in the checkout total.

  • Am I able to upgrade to the $65 s8+plan and keep my existing number, I'm also out of contract.

    • Why not?

  • I couldn't find cash rewards link,Has anyone tried to get cash rewards on this offer ?
