  • What is the usual RRP? Thanks.

    • I dunno it's a new bundle but the 1TB console by itself is usually around $369

    • +1

Chromecasta Ultra I think has RRP of $99.

      • +1

It's often around $79 on sale though.

    • +1

For the Google Chromecast Ultra… the RRP is A$99.00, else "street" price around A$79.00… This is a very good price @ A$55.00… I suspect this price point may become common in the future if Amazon.com.AU start shipping their better and newer versions of Amazon Fire (only the Amazon Fire Basic available at the moment @ A$69.00).

Anyway, if you are wanting 4K streaming or intending, this is a good unit and from my experience has been the most stable Chromecast model to date… oh, and be quick!!! … stocks won't last long at this pricepoint!!!

      • It was an error and has already been fixed.

  • +22

    Nice price on Chromecast ultra.

  • +3

Queue the usual 5% price beat at officeoworks on the chromecasf :)
    Great price regardless

  • +1

Thanks, bought Chromecast using $10 coupon from gift card deal

    • +1

Hey, how long did it take to get your gift cards?
I bought 2 x $100 gift cards on Tuesday and haven't heard anything.

      • Received the coupon on 4th day after receiving gc

    • Can you stack multiple $10 coupons?

      • Nope.

  • +1

Just bought a Xbox 500g from M&S store.

    Console+Forza horizon 3/hot wheel+NBA 2k18+gears of war 4 ultimate=$309-$40 paypal-14 cashrewards.(free return until 31/01/18)

    • How did you get the $40 from PayPal? Thinking of getting one myself if I could do that

      • Would like to know this as well

      • Amex offer.

  • thank ye kindly, finally grabbed the chromecast ultra since my 4k tv's netflix app won't be getting HDR now (thanks hisense…)

    • How come it won't be getting HDR?

      • +3

The tv has HDR, but none of the built in apps support it. I have their "old" 2016 M7000 model. Hisense abandoned software support for it after about 6 months in favor of their newer models.

The picture is still quite good for the price; it just has poor software that's missing features that they said repeatedly were coming, but then never did. I suppose you get what you pay for

Either way, will be nice to finally see HDR in action with the CC Ultra :)

    • Hey this won't address the HDR in apps issue, but there is a south African firmware for the M7000 which is far better than any of the other available firmwares out there. I've installed and seen a good performance update. even with no tweaking, the picture looks awesome from factory settings, which is a stark contrast (no pun intended) to the horrible factory settings on the Au firmware

      • Hi Frugal I have the same Hisense TV, is this South African firmware for the 55"/65" only or is it also for the 70". If it is for the 70" could I trouble you to send me a link for it. Thx.

  • The Xbox bundle was $359 till yesterday @JB. I bought the same bundle for $357 from HN last Thursday so hopefully they will price match this new price.
    Thanks Op!

    • +1

No chance, not for bundles and not from Hardly Normals

    • Harvey Norman does 7 days price guarantee.
I used it for $4000 tv this year twice

      • Thanks!
Contacted HN and they will refund the difference. :)

  • +4

The chromecast is a solid deal, nearly the price of a new chromecast 2 (by $10 or so) AND you can stream 4k. Sold! Dont expect the units to last very long for sale tho lol

  • Awesome, finally found a good use for the Whiskas vouchers!

  • Wish I had a local OW's. At least HN were happy to price match, save on delivery at least.

  • No stock of Ultras in any Sydney CBD stores.

    • Says who? Oh, do you mean at OW?

      • Whoops yes Officeworks

        • -1

Just a went the the Hunter St one, they are on display but was told out of stock. I reckon they are doing a dodgy so they don't have to price beat. We should check stock levels tomorrow!

Unless their to lazy to take the display cards away?

  • Awesome. Now to offload my non 4k Chromecast (or spare?)

    • +4

Keep the spare! Great for travelling.

  • Great price on the Ultra finally upgraded thank you! Now to offload the standard Chromecast to ebay like everyone else!!!

  • -1

Thanks! Bought one from Officeworks a few weeks ago for $77 so will return that one and get the one at JB. :)

  • Does 4k tv like tcl 60p20us have ultra Chromecast inbuilt or just regular Chromecast? Otherwise I have to buy the ultra now. I am in the market for 4k hdr tv in a budget.

  • Bloody hell I literally just bought an Ultra from Officeworks yesterday. Upgraded from the very original Gen 1 and it is a whole new experience, switching between sources is instant

    • +2

Buy from JB and return to OW?

      • That is maniacally brilliant! haha

      • +1

Buy from JB and return to OW?

No. Buy again at OW with a pricebeat. Return new one with old receipt.

        • +1

Yeah, but OW website saying it's out of stock everywhere. Probably wrong though given some comments here.

    • Did you get this price?
Can maybe go back and get a reimbursement?

    • Go back to own, 80% chance they just fix the price for you. They work hard to keep customers happy.

  • +1

I wanted chromecast ultra, but I have no TV that could stream 4k.

    • Yep, I have an old 42 inch plasma with no hdmi. I could use an adapter, but then I would have even no sound…

  • Excellent Price. Do i need this if I own an Apple TV?

    • I have a Gen 2 ATV, cant do Youtube, etc. I can live with it. Great price, so dont wanna miss it.

  • Thanks OP. Got one…

  • This is the price in the US google shop, too. It may pass through to other retailers shortly. https://store.google.com/us/product/chromecast_ultra

  • +1

Great deal …. I will grab a couple this arvo on my way home. I don't own a 4K TV buy it's on my next year pipeline. I will move my current CC (gen2) to the TV in my room and get this one hooked up to my living room TV. I'll get another two for my bro in-laws. Good Xmas gift. Thanks OP!

  • +1

Noob question, i have a 4k smart tv and extremely slow internet, any reason to get this?

    • +2

      no

      • +1

you can still cast the stuff you have saved in your laptop/tablet.

  • Purchased the Ultra from Good Guys 2 days ago for $70.20, just applied for and was immediately given store credit of difference plus 20%, a surprisingly quick and easy process.

    • How do you do this? Is it good guys store policy or something?
I bought google home mini from TGG when it was 64.. Thought it was a bargain but now it's 55 ffs..
It was almost a month ago though..

      • How lazy can you be?

        https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/30-day-price-guarantee

Probably won't work any more though as the sale has been pulled from the JB website.

        • +1

Omfg i did a brief search before but didnt find that page. It was 53 on 1 dec at OW.. Damn.. Im not ozB enough I guess..
No need for personal attack though…

        • @OzFrugie: Yes, room for improvement ;p

        • @John Kimble:

Definitely need to learn more from OzB masters here..
I remember i was only looking for their refund policy.. Didnt know they have price guarantee.. Sigh

For my knowledge, which other stores have price guarantee?

  • ripping deal on the Chromecast Ultra - surely will sell out! thanks OP

  • +1

Just pricematched the Chromcast at Officeworks comes to $52.25.
They ran out of stock so ordered one in at the same price, comes in tmro.
    Thanks O.P

    • Will you be able to send copy of receipts ?

  • woohoo! got an Ultra.. was going to buy second hand for $45~ $10 more for new is a win!

  • Thanks, got one. Have been wanting to upgrade my Chromecast 1 for a while and wanted Ethernet for it.

  • +6

Tempted to grab one as 'future proofing' for my 'future' LG OLED.

    • +1

I bought one, now awaiting my future OLED TV.

  • Are there benefits of using Ultra on full HD tv? Will it downscale 4k content? Meaning it should look better.

    • No reason to buy the ultra, just use chromecast 2.

      • +1

Not sure about the chromecast 2 but I just upgraded from the chromecast 1. It is a big difference on a 1080p screen as it has native hevc playback which most of my TV shows in plex are stored in. This means it no longer needs to convert it which saves processing power.

  • Question: We mainly use Youtube and Plex app in our Samsung TV.. Any advantage of paying extra to get a chromecast for the purpose?

    • If your TVs native apps are doing everything you need I wouldn't bother.

    • In built apps are getting better and better, so Chromecast is becoming less of a requirement. I only have it so I have some TV control with Google Home as well as photo / video sharing from my iPhone.

  • Thanks. Didn't need one but got it anyway. Nice to have and stream the odd 4k video

  • Can you just stream audio eg Spotify to the Chromecast if I connect it to my avr and not my TV

    • You could do this if you get the Chromecast Audio - I've set mine up this way.

      • I was hoping to use this but when others at home want to stream YouTube the option is there. Audio would be he main use but.

    • Spotify works great on the Chromecast.
      *edit
My mind only just processed AVR. Yeah that should work fine also.

    • I purchased one for this reason, on screen controls wont pass through unless your AVR is HDCP 2.2 compliant.
My receiver won't so I have google audio for spotify to the receiver and chromecast ultra for the TV.
But for pure audio its a bit overkill for this.. in saying that, its cheap enough to warrant doing it.

  • +2

Thanks op got one for future proofing. Will be getting a 4k HDR OLED TV soon.

  • Thanks op, there's still 2 left on display at jb leichhardt.

  • Wow, I don't think its ever been this cheap. Thanks OP.

Grabbed one and got an SMS 1 min later saying its ready for collection!

  • Is it a fair assumption that there's no Amazon Prime Video app for this? ;)

    • +1

unfortunately not natively (app), but you can cast your screen (laptop/pc etc) to chromecast through the browser if using chrome on the computer.

      • +1

Cheers. I've Netflix options coming out of my wazoo (ow!), but have to watch Amazon via my Xbone, which isn't ideal.

  • Couldn't resist Chromecast Ultra at this price. Cheers!

  • I got one price matched with OW at Castle Hill. If you are close to Castle Hill, they may still have 2 in stock.

    • will you be able to upload your OW receipt, JB hifi showing error on the page.

  • Related, JB-Hifi has a Google Home Pack consisting of:

    1. 1 x Google Home,

    2. 1 x Google Home Mini, and

    3. 1 x Chromecast Ultra.

All for $220.00 - good value or no?

    • +1

      1 - $128
      2 - $55
      3 - $55

      Total - $238

Are you looking at buying all three? If not then no
Do you need them now or willing to wait?
Buy 3 now, 2 if you need it pre Xmas and wait for a deal on 1 (if you feel you really need it).

If you need them all now, then it’s a good price but the chrome cast is the best deal supporting the others.

    • +1

Not bad….nothing crazy. Might be saving yourself 25 bucks.

I just did an online woolies shop for $300 and got a mini for free….it's coming in post.

    • link pls…

      • Saw in-store, sorry.

  • Already bagged the Chromecast Ultra.

Do you reckon I should wait for the Xbox One S bundle till Boxing Day or snap this one today.

    Regards

    • +1

Wait… if you're not a huge stickler for brand new, I'd check Gumtree between xmas and just after boxing day… should be plenty there ;)
