Any deals on E470 like the ones you have posted previously TA?

    • +3

Yes, TA has a deal for that model, but he is keeping it all to himself.

      • +3

        He's staying tight-lipped.

What would someone recommend this or Inspiron 15 7000 for $1379

    • Check the weight, I perfer light one.

    • Dell is slightly lighter & has that brush metal finish (verses all plastic on ThinkPad). It also has an extra 1TB hard drive.

ThinkPad however is slighter cheaper, has probably faster GPU, and (very important for some) has TrackPoint and number pads.

      • Thanks, is 940MX any good? Or Would there be new version coming out soon? Not looking to play games but also want it to be a bit future proof.

        • no good at all

i think this rx550 pars with 1050 vanilla which smokes 940mx by far

        • +2

          @phunkydude: Probably not a 1050, According to Notebookcheck it's better than MX150(GT 1030) but slower than a 1050. So, more like a 1040. Way better than a 940MX though.

    • Hmm my comment got nuked cus I included the eBay link.

I’d go for the Dell Inspiron 7577 instead - has a GTX1060 in it and all reviews I’ve read are positive. It’s for $1359 on eBay with the POWERUP code which expires today or soon!?

      • Couldn’t find 7577 but 15 7000 gaming has 1060 but to me they look ugly. I am looking for something sleek looking and thin. Not looking for gaming graphics card like 1060 but something like in this laptop and latest.

Can't comment on the Lenovo, but I have the inspiron 15 7000. Its a good laptop, but has a few crappy points:

      • Touch pad and buttons suck
      • Sound is tinny
      • WiFi drivers are broken, unable to fix without reinstalling windows 10
      • Video corruption using stock Intel display driver. Using Dell driver fixes that, but enables adaptive brightness which cant be disabled.
      • Edge of the laptop is sharp and a bit uncomfortable on the wrists
  • Any Lenovo offers under $1,000 T.A.?

    • +1

Wait until mid-year and this will be closer to $1000

  • +1

this rx550 pars with 1050 vanilla right ? not against the Ti ?

    • +2

No, the 1050 vanilla is closest to pairing against the RX460/560. The RX550 doesn't really have a pair, it sort of sits between the GT1030 and the GTX1050.

i am also looking for the previous E470 deal as well

    • +8

Let us know when you find it, thanks.

      • +2

will do, been looking during the last 2 weeks and was hoping something will pops up during boxing day but nothing so far

    • Yep Me too. 470 has the right screen size for me.

  • How does this model compare to the X1 Carbon? Performance wise?

  • Does anyone know if that 2.1kg spec is with the battery?

What's the convention anyways with laptop weight specs? Are they usually quoting the no-battery weight?

  • How does the Processor •Intel Gen7 i7-8550U compare to the 8700HQ?
Edit found the below link. It seems the 7700HQ is the better processor
    https://www.pcworld.com/article/3235813/laptop-computers/int…

    • +2

Yes, the HQ uses up to 3 times the power draw.
However under single core processing it seems the 8550U can even get ahead.
So unless you are doing heavy gaming, video or some other sustained multicore process many people dont require the 45w chip.
Personally i do, but thats me. Anyone else in my family couldnt notice a difference if they tried.

  • i hate this, i love the deal, but no backlit keyboard is killing me inside.

    • +1

"Optional backlit keyboard", optional meaning it can be disabled via Fn keys if not required.

Thanks TA, purchased one. Solid discount on a very recent laptop.

      • ehhh?, i thought optional was like an upgrade, u gotta config the notebook at checkout kinda thing, like upgrading ram etc. sounds odd to me 'optional' would be FN key function :|

        • +1

You're probably right on second thought. "Its backlighting, available as an option…"

  • +2

Strong CPU, but the GPU is relatively weak comparded to the 1050 Ti on the E570P and the GTX 1060 available on the new Dell gaming laptop.

    • This is target mainly for business professionals (on the go) not gamers.

Call Lenovo's telesales number on 1300 557 073 with any questions.

Just rang them and asked if they've ever seen Tightarse and they hung up on me.

    • +1

      Should have said savas

  • Interesting that a lot of the big names have been quietly releasing laptops with 8th-gen CPUs, only to put them on sale almost immediately or within a month. Happened with XPS 13 (which is being replaced in 2018 anyway) and some of the Asus laptops. Might be something to do with ironing out any issues through warranties before they're released to the broader fleet?

With the MSI GF62 (GTX1050) Leopard 15.6" $1596, you also get:
Free Bonus Mixed Reality Headset (Value of $799)

  • Hi first time poster….can you please tell me which 2 in 1 laptop you would recommend between the HP pavillion 360 and the Acer s5-371t-70cb? It is for a high schooler. Or feel free to mention any other you think is good.thanks

  • How are the screens on these cheaper thinkpads?

I haven't been able to find how much of srgb they can do.

    • I'd guess that the screen is the same, if not similar to the previous model: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-ThinkPad-E570-Core-i5-G…

"The reproducible color space prevents the screen from playing in the league of premium IPS LCDs. 57% of sRGB is on the level with very low-cost panels. Consequently, it is unsuitable for serious image editing."

      • +1

It's a shame. It has the right specs but is let down by a crap screen, would be nice if you could upgrade for a bit extra.

  • Support PCIe NVMe2?

  • I am a DELL XPS 13 6th Gen CPU user currently, looking to upgrade my laptop. What comparisons are their to my current XPS? Definitely looking at this laptop because of its cheap price.

    • E series is middling quality. I think you would be disappointed coming from an XPS.

      • I personal prefer the business look of the Lenovo over the dell. Most of my dell in the past hasn't lasted as long as the Lenovo.

    • I played with the E560, which is two generations back, and the case felt extremely flimsy. Also, fairly bulky, and it has quirks like Ctrl and Fn keys in reversed positions, and that trackpoint thingy in the middle of the keyboard. Delivery time and tracking is a joke. Customer service is bad. YMMV.

    Missed it!

    Anymore coming soon?

  • Hanging out for the next Lenovo deal….
