This one or Huawei Mate 10?

    • +4

I own the huawei mate 8, from my experience, this phone does not slow down and its been almost 2 yrs, battery still last a day with all signals turned on.
I got no experience with google pixel, but i'd go with the huawei mate 10 pro for my next phone just because of its reliability.
      All the best!

    • Mate 10 coz the handset looks prehistoric.

I chose the mate 10, no regrets. Maybe in 18 months when the pixel is still getting updates and Huawei haven't bothered I might regret then…

      mate 10 pro, from amaysim

    • Mate 10 no doubt. Watch the durability test from jerryrigseverything on yt for the pixel 2. He couldn't give any good comment for it

    • Thanks for the advices! Mate 10 it is!

    • Depends what you value. This is arguably the best camera in a smartphone and probably the best performance in an Android phone. You'll also get stock Android and be the first to get updates from Google.

No need to worry about phone backup if you have good friends @Communist Party of China. Pixel is with Five Eyes.

1920x1080 screen in 2018 is abomination.

Tbh anything better is a waste of battery for me

      • +14

I agree, I can barely tell difference between 4k and 1080p on such a small screen. Much prefer long battery life.

        • I "downgraded" from a Nexus 6P to the first gen Moto Z Play. I didn't really notice a difference in resolution though I do miss AMOLED.

        • +1

@Zorlin: Wait, but the Z Play does have an AMOLED display…-

        • @Halsmich: Derp. Sorry, you're right. Not sure why I thought otherwise.

    • Remember 2011, when the thing to make a big deal about was that 1920x1080 is pointless on a phone size screen?

      Fun times, fun times!

I hate that this has such bezels. It's really the perfect size. Are there any good alternatives of a similar size minus the bezels & also with good camera?

I love the progress of technology, but not so much the price. For some reason, I am inclined to buy just another LG G4 or a G6 cos I'm such a cheapskate.

    Am I doing this wrong?!

    • +1

I agree. To me phone tech hasn't progressed much in the past few years and I can't justify spending $1k for something that gets outdated in six months.

I'm thinking of getting a sub $400 low-mid range phone and have some freedom of not using a case.

      • Ah yes, I'm also quite good at getting one ding on the screen within the first 3months of ownership and then the phone is golden for the next two years. I was weighing up what I want in a phone and it's basically a decent screen and long battery life. I'm too old to do selfies and would need Madonna level filters to look good.

I bought a nexus 5X last year because I refuse to pay more than $500 for a phone.

What I look for in a phone:
vanilla android, above average camera, quick updates, finger print scanner

Face recognition, Google assistant/Siri, 4k videos etc are things I can live without on my mobile phone

Next phone will be between Pixel 2 (after they fix the screen colours) or OnePlus 5T (after they patch the camera software) and come down to $500-600

      • I upgraded to the pixel 2 from the Nexus 5x and it feels pretty much exactly the same but with a good camera. Screen is maybe a tiny bit nicer. Battery life is better but that's probably just due to my heavy usage on the n5x.

  • I'd be weary of buying from this company after the fiasco that was the 6P. Better off taking the price to JB or something and working something out.

Chance is if this doesn't last two years, at least JB will help.

Source: Owned every Nexus until the 6P.

  • only white and blue, there is no black…

    • now only white left

I know everyone thinks these are kinda ugly but when I looked at in store i Kind of really liked the simplicity .
Also the display was gorgeous, and seemed to outshine the S8 + next to it?

Whats everyone's opinions on the aesthetics?

    • It's a pretty standard looking phone other than its glass and aluminium back. It's unique in that I think it has an orange power button.

    • I've come to really like my one after using it for a few weeks. It does look plain, but its nice plain.

Once you start using it tho, all the aesthetics vanish and you really start to appreciate good software. I've come from apple to this phone and couldnt be happier with the vanilla software and also how good google assistant is.
