Not sure if this was suggested before, but can we have a search filter for amount of votes e.g. a minium

If I'm considering posting a deal on a popular item (e.g. QC35) that regularly gets posted here, this would allow me to more easily search for the prices that is worth posting at. Likewise, if I'm looking to buy a popular item (e.g. SSD), this will allow me to quickly see the most popular deals.

Maybe it could be under the Type Options (currently "Type: Deals" & "Type: Deals (No Expired)") as something like "Type: Deals (Front Page)" or maybe as a search operator like option:titleonly currently, something like option:frontpage or option:minvotes

  • If we up vote a deal then later want to down vote the deal it's not possible. Or at least it is not if you've revoked your up vote. Can this be changed?

    • It has been asked quite a few times before. Sorry the votes cannot be changed (outside of the first minute "cooling off period") and can only be revoked.

  • could we be able to sort by most + voted when searching.

    • helpful when your looking for a specific product/ deal from the past for comparison

  • Feature request: sort forum posts by number of replies, date, etc.

Have a vote for "Funny" and a vote for "Not funny" alongside the usual positive and negative votes for each comment; reasoning - I find that sometimes that posts that get upvoted the most are either funny or and helpful but you don't know if the vote is for sarcasm/jesting or are actually helpful from the people who upvoted it. With this you will now see what people actually think of the comment or reply. Same goes to "Not funny" and negative votes, where the joke just simply fails to achieve the goal and not just because it's unhelpful.

    • Somebody has been reading Steam Reviews sorted by Funny?

      • -2

        …maybe….

It would still be nice to point out which comments are voted most funny or which are actually helpful and may or may not be funny at all….maybe you feel down and rather go through the funny comments first to get yourself up for the entire day, hmmmm?

Or perhaps don't like seeing helpful comments be hidden because it's been negged a lot because it was no funny or something….but also at the sametime be truthful and helpful….so I guess let people vote twice, for either funny and either positive or negative, actually, turn the positive to negative to helpful and unhelpful buttons… ☺

From the looks of it, it appears my suggestion was negged, so that either means it was not funny at all or unhelpful somehow or both, but I don't which….hence the new funny and not funny buttons vote buttons…..

        • i one hunnid percent feel ya but the mods and admin are very serious sometimes kinda about this matter .. they may share some different views which is natural and to be expected as a possibility

but yeah the more i see alternate suggestions to the current way that ozb is constructed i kind of wish we had maybe a ozb2 or ozbalt or ozb reddit steam mix of some sort haha

just today i was considering the possibility of an awesome ozb but with anonymous posting available that will open up on the go posting but then you would have to have some sort of mechanism for anti spam and all around anti abuse of anon services and features

a funny emote would be.. funny but i honestly dont see it happening but who knows.. steam didnt have funny before and now it does..

the nature and way things are conducted on the internet still to this day always intrigues me the unpredictability keeps me both hooked and upset and also happy at times.. ride this rollercoaster ride

  • On the theme of GaryG's comment I would like to be able to filter out deals on homepage/deals page that are not relevant to my state. Is this possible to implement?

    • We hope one day in the future, however right now we don't have the ability/data to do so. It's certainly on our wish list.

  • For some reason I am only getting web notifications, not email.
Even though I have the Notifications: Email checked only

    • Is your email client putting Ozbargain emails into spam? You could also try changing your registered email address in your Ozbargain profile

      • I get the subscription emails for deals that are popular, plus the competitions that are popular.

but for some reason not getting of the
        store you have subscribed to
plus when user reply to my comment or deal post.
is there any option I am missing,
prior to the change I would get these.

  • +1

Do we get notifications if someone replies to your or is only if they @ you? Haven't used ozbargain for abit, but notifications has been lacking for me.
Also what how do you look through the top voted comments? as I can no longer see on the bottom orange bar like before
Thanks for any response in advance :)

    • See this about recent notification changes. Top voted comments — those are removed. No immediate plan to bring that back.

  • +1

There are separate titles in the drop down menu under "Deals" for "Popular Deals" and "Deals Expiring Soon" but no "Front Page Deals".

I'm pretty sure not everyone knows to click on the Ozbargain logo.

  • +1

If viewing a deal/forum post in the all comments section, is it possible to have a setting to enable the ability to still vote up/down? It's the only reason I don't use that mode. Otherwise, is it possible to get endless scrolling just like how it is in https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals in the regular view mode?

    • I asked this exact question last year and was told that it was too resource intensive to do…..

  • Can we have a way of hiding eBay Plus related deals? I don't want to hide all eBay deals, but I also have no plans on signing up for eBay plus and the deals page is just full of these deals. Perhaps a consistent way of tagging eBay Plus deals, and than a 'Block tags' option?

    • +1

Often if you don't have eBay Plus it might still be a good deal. Just no free postage and maybe 5% less discount.

  • If your listed item is still available after 1 month, you may repost the same item again. If the same item is posted within 1 month, regardless of price or quantity, it will be unpublished as a duplicate.

Does classified posts marked as duplicate count towards the 2 posts/week quota? I missed out the bit about quantity and got a post unpublished :(

    • Only published posts are counted for weekly classifieds posting limits.

      Edit: Added 'weekly' above.

      • Might want to fix this wiki entry then:

How many posts can I make?

Note that unpublished posts are still counted towards the posting limit.

        • Unpublished posts do not count towards the weekly limit. However, they still count towards the 5 min, hourly, 6 hourly and 24 hourly limits mentioned in that wiki section.

    • I missed out because it wasn't listed on the wiki! Not my fault i found out now.

      Please update here:

If your listed item is still available after 1 month, you may repost the same item again. If the same item is posted within 1 month, even if the price has been updated, the second post will be unpublished as a duplicate.

so it matches the sidebar there.

If the same item is posted within 1 month, regardless of price or quantity, it will be unpublished as a duplicate.

  • I noticed that upvoting a deal doesn't really work for me. When I click on +, nothing happens. Clicking multiple times doesn't do anything either.

Then I noticed that if I click once and wait about 18 seconds, only then does the + get registered.

It happens with both Chrome and Edge, on multiple computers. Is it just me?

    • OzBargain's way of complaining "database is running slow". Some bottleneck has been identified, and optimisation will get pushed out next week to see whether it improves the situation.

      • Ahhh ok, thanks! Glad it wasn't just me!

  • Similar to how there is an "Entered" button on competition pages can we have a "Purchased" or "Redeemed" button on deal pages?

  • Would be nice if we had "Master Posts" for stores when they do one big sale. Kind of annoying when the deals just get flooded with every individual item posted.

AKA Amazon prime day, good guys ebay discount codes etc.

    • +2

I find individual posts very useful. When good deals for specific items gets posted or upvoted, I'd get an email notification. Or if I'm browsing the main page, I can immediately see which items have been upvoted.

If it was all in one big master post, the only way to keep up to date with good deals is to manually refresh that one page and look for changes. Notifications would not work because individual items would not be posted as a deal thus not be able to be upvoted. Everyone would miss deals because hot items would not appear on the main page as well.

    • We have that for eBay and other sales, just hit the related tab. It works based on coupon code.

For events like Amazon Prime Day, we have the Prime Day page.

      • Even so, perhaps the option to hide the flood of individual posts? The current flood of Amazon is annoying partly because I don't care to buy from Amazon (in any region), and partly because it means I have to wade through a bunch of posts that are already aggregated on specific sale pages which therefore make it harder to find other stuff I might actually be interested in from other stores. I would mind less if they were aggregated into a single post, even if it was pinned or stayed near the top of the first page.

        • As mentioned below, you can hide posts from stores you don't want to see.

        • As per what eug said, you can block Amazon posts entirely by hitting the hide link:

          hide

As for hiding by event such as Amazon Prime Day (or another tag), it gets a bit more resource intensive. Will see what we can think of.

        • @neil: Ah, I see! I didn't realise that. Having another look now, I realise why: I may not have noticed "Hide" there because the list of tags above it did not include "Amazon AU", and the "Amazon AU" region below it (obscured in your screenshot by the "hide" pop-up) had a "subscribe" button, but not a "hide" button.

Can I amend my request to say "please put a 'hide' button in the store box"? :-) It would be easier to find, anyway…

I'd post a screenshot, but I'm not sure how, sorry.

In any case, thanks for the tip!

        • @Msquared:

I'd post a screenshot, but I'm not sure how, sorry.

You can go to My Account, then files and upload your file there.

Can I amend my request to say "please put a 'hide' button in the store box"? :-) It would be easier to find, anyway…

Good suggestion. We do have a lot of features so it's a bit tricky figuring out how to display all of them without getting too crowded. We also have to take into account displaying all of these on the mobile site. We'll discuss internally.

  • I would like to be able to ignore all posts from a specific store. Normally I don't mind too much, but sometimes a store that I will never purchase from might be having a huge sale that results in a flood of posts that I don't care about.

    • +1

Just open a deal from the store you want to ignore, then click on "Hide". It might be a bit hard to find on the page, just CTRL-F and search for hide.

      • Thanks!

  • +1

The neg/pos limits should be raised a bit. I get why they are there but the cap is so low.

    • +1

I'd upvote this comment but I'm out of upvotes, you're upvotes are meant to be based on contributions you make over the last 24 hours but you don't even get more for posting bargains and comps (or more importantly reading more deals/forum topics), I'm still not sure why upvoting comment limits were introduced.

      • +1

Unsurprisingly someone downvoted the above 2 comments, don't want to say why because they wouldn't be able to take the negs.

  • When looking at your own comments on the mobile site, you can click on comments to sort by order. But since it's already in the order of your most recent comments, it doesn't do anything anyway. The ability to sort may as well be removed

  • New deals and new or hot discussions button next to ozbargain banner up top for mobile as well as the menu drop down / expand. Saves us constant checkers and commenters a few presses each time we finish a comment or deal which is very annoying especially for us full time fast paced long time ozbargainers haha lol.

  • Can we have a sticky auto weekly posted thread on "Best NBN deal for 12/1 25/10 50/20 100/40 unlimited etc" and maybe even one in the mobile section for mobile deals like we have for the random discussion thread every week.

Would help users not have to post new threads all the time and turn into a whirlpool mess and also consolidate all the current discussions on deals and in forums into one megathread sticky forum.. the idea of the resetting every week means all the past information gets cleared and we can have a brand new discussion almost like a weekly meeting to discuss the new best deals in internet, phone and mobile categories every time.

Could even have one for electricity, gas and water but make it maybe monthly or three monthly depending on the necessity of having one.

I feel like I am always chasing up what is the best internet and mobile and phone deals (both local and international ones) now daily and am going out of my mind.

What are your thoughts neil/hamza/scotty/scrimshaw? Is this topic active enough we should have an automated weekly discussion on it.. I think so what do you think

  • Thanks for putting up the rock climbing as a highlighted deal - FREE Indoor Climbing: THE NORTH FACE Global Climbing Day - Saturday 18/8/18 (ACT, NSW, QLD & VIC)

What is the criteria for this?

    • +1

      Found my answer

The moderators decide as a team, usually based on several criteria such as, but not limited to:

      • The deal was popular with many votes
      • The deal was posted several days before the live date
      • There have been dupes
  • Ability to have seperate polls in one forum post and users can vote in each of the sub polls. Abiluty to tile each poll too.

  • +1

Turn off the online status. I've seen that HUKD has this function and think it should be an option that the user has.

    • So people don't know whether you are online?

      • +1

Yes. I think the last login/status line should be removed altogether or at least be left up to the user to display or not.

        • +1

I wanted the complete opposite; everyone is translucent (or transparent)….there's nothing to hide anyways by you being here unless you wanna be a stealth assassin in incognito mode…..but meh, whatever I guess…

        • @Zachary: just an option for the user to choose

        • i think the online status may be useful for tracking dodgy seller/buyer when the other party tries to contact them but the person never responds

    • This is available now FYI. See here for more details

  • Ctrl-Enter is a common shortcut for submitting a chat post, sending an email, etc. Can this please be implemented for the OzBargain comments section?

  • There are a couple of threads that I find interesting and would like to check back once in a while
Would it be worth to add a subscribe option (but not receive notification of new replies/comments). I don't need to be notified, just would like to 'shortlist' a number of Forum Posts.
I feel the 'voting' on deals sort of serve this same purpose

    • Bookmark function? Create a folder called 'Watch List' and bookmark any deals or forum posts that you want to shortlist.

In your settings you can go to lists > folders to manage it.

  • Dont know if its been mentioned, but how about a sort deals by price range option?

And an option to exclude expired/out of stock deals from showing

    • Dont know if its been mentioned, but how about a sort deals by price range option?

It has been asked for in various forms. The problem is that the price isn't isolated in it's own field and many times there are multiple products listed in the title so it likely would have to be manually set.

And an option to exclude expired/out of stock deals from showing

You can hide expired/out of stock deals in My Account - Edit - Do not show expired deals for Front Page deals.

      • Wasnt aware thanks

  • Why is the standard/suggested capitalisation of bargain titles/forum titles so unusual? Is there a reason sentence case isn't used?

i.e. my forum post today was edited from "How much did/would you spend on a wedding band?" to "How Much Did/Would You Spend on a Wedding Band/Ring?"

The capitalised words are not proper nouns so I don't see why they are capitalised. Would we be able to change this at all?

    • +1

This is use of title case for titles.

    • +2

There are certain power users going around making stupid changes to keep their edit count up.

    • Different sites use different standards. Title case is used for OzBargain as does other large bargain sites like Slickdeals, RedFlagDeals and mostly HotUKDeals. Don't think either Sentence Case or Title Case can be considered right, just a matter of sticking with one convention. I'm not sure there is a compelling reason in changing styling at this point.

  • When we PM someone for the first time or for a new subject, I believe we can only see the original message after the user replies. Is it possible if we change it so we can view the conversation in the messages tab immediately after sending the message? This might help users when they're contacting reps for support and see if they've sent the correct details/links to the intended recipient or even add further details whilst waiting for a response.

    • The sent messages can be found in the sent folder. However I agree that it needs to be redesigned. Originally it was more like an email system but it's more like a messaging platform now so it makes sense to show all the current conversations regardless who started it.

  • Under the "Current Coupon Codes" section of a store page (eg https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/ebay.com.au) is it possible to also have a link to the generic deal that posted the coupon?

So the PIXEL coupon code would also have a link to https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/400639.

    • I agree! It's a good way to get more details and only adds an extra click to get to the deal.

    • Thanks for the suggestion, scotty will add it to his to do list to add that in.

In the meantime, you can click 'more eBay Coupons' and find the link to the original deal on the Couponese site where applicable. Look for the 'via OzBargain' below a code which goes to the original deal.

    • This is available as of today. Example.

      Thanks again.

      • Super fast - thanks Scotty and team :D

      • Perfect!

  • Happy to see a strong response to my headphones thread. It’s evident that a large portion of Ozbargain users are willing to pay for quality audio equipment. Might be worthwhile for the mods and guys like TA to contact audio equipment suppliers for discounts. Should be easy to persuade given the far reach of this site so fulfilling quota shouldn’t be too much of an issue.

    • +1

Maybe you could take it upon yourself to contact the suppliers and become the next TA. JS loves audio!

      • +1

        aight send me your energy

        1 like = 1 prayer

  • Surely this has been asked infinite times but a setting to not show expired deals. I’m not talking about when searching, I’m talking about just scrolling deals from front page.

Scrolling past all the expired deals on the front page is the worst

    • Click 'do not show expired deals' here

(My Accounts > Settings > Edit > Deals > Front Page - Do Not Show Expired Deals)

      • aweosome, thanks!

  • Bit of a question and partly suggestion.

How are deals determined worthy to be shown? I never noticed until today (when i posted a deal) that the threshold for deals to appear on the main page seems quite high. I have noticed in the past deals I would be interested in didnt show until too late for me to take advantage of them. either selling out completely or of my size for example.

I have never really looked at the live feed of deals and have been relying on the main page and category pages. I'll now look at the live feed or new deal page more often I guess, now i realise the upvote threshold for deals is quite high.

One suggestion would be to make the threshold on the category pages significantly lower than the main page. So people looking for specific items can see lower upvoted deal that might not have met the threshold for the main page. Obviously the main page needs a higher threshold so it doesn't get too cluttered.

    • How are deals determined worthy to be shown

The basic threshold is 25 votes, however deals can reach the front page earlier if they receive enough votes in the alloted amount of time. See here for more info.

I'll now look at the live feed or new deal page more

You can actually customise the frontpage threshold if you wish in your settings, here is the direct link, the default is 25 but you can change it as you wish. Additionally you can see all deals, not just the top deals in the category pages, see below for that.

make the threshold on the category pages significantly lower than the main page

If you click 'new' in any of the categories, instead of the default 'deals' it will show every deal in that category, not just the top ones. Eg Computing

  • Hi, WHY WILL YOU NOT SEND THE OFFERS TO CANBERRA AT LEAST ONE (1) DAY BEFORE THE OFFER(S) EXPIRES NOT ONE DAY AFTER THE OFFERS HAVE EXPIRED,???

    • I think it's because Canberra is on DST.. Day Savings Time. You're one day ahead of the rest of us. :(

    • I assume you are asking about the newsletter?

      From the help, FAQ:

I keep seeing expired deals in my newsletter. How can I change this?

Go to: My Account - Subscriptions - Newsletter

Check the box: Exclude expired deals

  • To EUG,DAY LIGHT SAVINGS IS NOT A ALL YEAR TIME IT IS ONLY USED 6 MONTHS OF THE YEAR,IT APPEARS YOU DO NOT KNOW EXACTLY WHERE CANBERRA IS,IT IS A LITTLE SECTION OF NEW SOUTH WALES,CHEERS

    • ;)

  • Just wondering whether there is any merit in allowing deal posting to be scheduled?

For example, if someone knows a Woolworths deal, they can't post it till 5pm Monday but they may not get around to posting it then. Having a scheduled posting option can then help this user to post when the time is right.

    • This has been asked and this will be problematic as it could lead to duplicates. You can however make a draft, then after making sure no one else has posted the deal, post your deal.

  • Suggestion to introduce additional tags when looking at the list of deals from the front page or deals page. What I mean is the tag like the categories tag and the freebie tag, to indicate whether an item is physical, digital, in-store only, area only, subscription only, subscription freebie, freebie with requirements & etc.

  • +1

Suggestion: Ability to flag/pin good comments/tips about specific item or product and be able to collate this into a single page.

Reason: quite often before buying an item, I ozb first as it consists of good tips (whether it is cheaper to buy it from store xyz or better to get model abc, etc), but opening and old threads take time, it would be good to be able to see the good tips in one page

    • You can click on "bookmark" under the comment and file that comment into a folder, and then go to your "Folders" page to see previously bookmarked deals & comments.

      • Thanks for your reply; what I want is the ability for everyone to flag/pin that good post/comment itself, rather than being pin by myself, but by everyone; thus it is useful for other people too;

        • Whether something is useful is quite subjective, and my idea of "good comment" would be different from yours. You can however create a wiki page yourself (on https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/<anything>) and then add your own links there.

  • Tag Correction

For my deal $10 Gift Card for Trialing Connectwise Control - Cloud Based Remote Control Software I was looking at using the JB HiFi tag but note it's misspelled as JB Hi-Hi as shown in this deal - Looking to swap my DJ gift cards (2x50) or JB Hi-Fi gift cards (2x50) for ColesMyer Gift cards(100 worth) or sell for $90 each

    Please fix.

    • We don't tag stores, they'll automatically get deleted or redirected to the store page in time.

      Thanks

  • Voting for deals limits

I've had read only access to Ozbargain for a month and have stored up over 20 positive votes. From reading previous posts there are limits to the amount of positive votes one can do before being throttled/limited. What is this limit if any?
