    No love for WA :(

    Looks like we only got a $1 price cut for the AA size ones. Down from $10.95 to $9.95

    Well a dollar saved is 2 Gaytimes gained :)

    • +1

      These use to be double the price in WA/SA, so don't complain too much.

      Anyone know if they are OK to fast-charge?

    • Certainly does sound like a gaytime - stockpiling batteries in expectation of the apocolypse.

    • +1

      No love for NZ either. :(

  • +4

    I don't like being excluded :(

    • +6

      Go the Coles ones. Meant to be better and cheaper. ☺
      https://shop.coles.com.au/a/a-national/product/coles-brand-b…

      • +1

        are they?

        serious question, didn't even realize Coles had their own brand

        • +10

          Choice review laddas were even lower from memory.

          @thegrinch:

          Wow, the white Eneloops got absolutely smashed it that review!!
          Coles is very surprising, didnt even know they had rechargeables?
          Did choice even test the Ladda's? Can't see them on your list.

          Thanks for posting the screenshot though, very interesting.

        • +2

          @UFO: But did the Eneloops get smashed?

          I notice it says the Coles ones continued to operate "at a useful level" (useful for what?) after 100 cycles but the Eneloops continued past 200 cycles.

          So the Coles version failed to reach 200 cycles or did they just give up testing after they hit 101 cycles?

          Going by it the Eneloops still seem to be the best all-rounder when you look at price, self-discharge, capacity, recharge cycles.

        • @4wd: eneloops are the worst on the price front compared to Laddas, Aldi and HobbyKing. Even in that chart the Aldi's aren't too far off the eneloop figures, but at far cheaper price.

        • +3

          @4wd:

          Eneloops cost 3x more, have lower capacity, lower endurance, lower consistency, and discharge quicker. They only beat the Coles on self-discharge and number of cycles before first failure.

          Surely discharge time is most important and the Coles last 15% longer. I think the Coles is the better battery but the only concern is that they had a failure between 100-150 cycles in testing but if this happens they're so cheap you can just pop down to Coles and buy some more. When Eneloops are half price, they could be worth getting but again, if you have to swap and charge them more often because of the quicker discharge, I'm still not sure.

        • +3

          @UFO:

          There's a strong suspicion that Laddas are identical to Eneloop Pros. They're made in the same FDK factory in Japan.

        • +9

          @thegrinch: Yeah, but Choice is hardly the gold standard they hold themselves out to be.

        • +2

          @dazweeja:

          They are not. While they are adequate the laddas self discharge faster and don't last as long when using them to power speedlights.

          I bought a few packs believing they were and they are certainly not as good as the good old Sanyo eneloops

        • @Mic Cullen: True, the review is somewhat confusing, I've just been reading it in more detail. Not included in that list but in the review detail is the Sanyo Enloop white and it actually scored 83% overall making it highest and better than panasonic enloops. Coles deal seem good value though.

        • Aldi's are good…based on review …mine leaked though..maybe becausr my kids keeps dropping toys from table…

        • @UFO: No, the Choice test as last updated on 1st August 2016 did not include Ladda.

          For reference they tested:
          * Activ Energy Rechargeable
          * Coles Recharge+
          * Duracell Recharge Ultra
          * Energizer Recharge Extreme
          * Eveready Rechargeable
          * Panasonic Eneloop Pro
          * Panasonic Eneloop Ready to Use
          * Powerex 2700 Rechargeable
          * Powerex Imedion 2400
          * Powertech Rechargeable 2000 Blue
          * Powertech Rechargeable 2500 Green
          * Varta Ready to Use 2100

        • +1

          @thegrinch:

          Endurance and self discharge is higher on Eneloop pros meaning still better when they are half priced. The test does not show what happens in a year's time which I reckon the Coles one will be gone by then

        • @PeterSnoot:

          how did the duracell recharge ultras go? I bought 4 packs of 4 @ $4 @ OW a coupla years ago (package said 2014 and Made in Japan).

        • +1

          @CVonC: Overall they were in the middle of the pack (7/12). The negative comment was "Didn't achieve more than 100 charge and recharge cycles".

        • @PeterSnoot:

          Thanks for that. Disappointing for Japanese made :(

      • +1

        How would Choice have ranked the LADDA and the Coles ones if they were both the same RRP? The value score might not take into account this bargain.

      • +1

        I’m confused by the Choice scoring. They state that the eveready batteries are NOT low-self-discharge, yet they score higher for “self discharge” than the coles batteries which ARE low-self-discharge. How could that possibly be the case if both batteries work as specified??

      Thanks, you are awesome!

    • Yes.

    • +3

      shipping was like $179 for me & my nearest IKEA is about 20clicks.. lol…

  • +9

    Also Aldi lsd rechargeables aa/aaa 4 pack - $5.99.

    • +4

      You should post it as a deal.

      • +19

        I don't want to upset JV - and I'm WatchNerd not BatteryNerd.

        • Isn’t this the usual price as jv’s secretary has pointed out here?

        • +3

          What will happen if you post something that's not a watch deal.

        • +1

          @BrodenIt:
          We don't speak of such things … :-)

    • Where to buy them online though? Can you please provide a link.

      • +1

        You can't buy them online, but I can buy them & send them to you if you want?

        • +1

          Ah ok. Thanks for your generous offer. It would be a pain for both of us to organise it though. I don't need them in a rush, I think I'll just buy the Amazon ones when a decent price comes up. Thanks again, much appreciate your offer to help me.

        • +1

          @sav11:

          What about Hobby King?

        • @Steptoe: Thanks for the tip. You mean the Turnigy's? Are they good? I've heard mixed reviews and they cost about the same as Eneloops (for AA's anyway).

        • +1

          @sav11:
          Not sure how they compare for value, but they don't overstate capacity from my experience.

        • +1

          @sav11: keep an eye on the tunigys, they go on sale from time to time

    • ALDI LSDs are made in China whereas these LADDAS are made in Japan.

      • That's correct, which is not a big deal when you factor in the price.

        • aldi's leaked in my mouse, never happened to ikea's. just saying.

  • +1

    Excludes SA, as usual. 😠

    • +1
      • I see we have the same offers here as well. Don't know why OP said we're excluded though. Cheers

    • +4

      FYI IKEA SA and WA to be part of IKEA..
      not franchises as of end of Feb

      • Great news. Can't wait for that inclusiveness to take place.

        • For what it’s worth I’ve found you guys to have cheaper prices on things on more than one occasion, so it’s not all good news.

      • This is the best news I have ever heard in my life. No loner second class citizens.

    • But you've already got the big battery. We're all just jealous and want the big eneloop.

  • +1

    Just genuinely curious, what’s the normal price for these? Is it $9.99?

    • +3

      A bit more its listed as the non-family price. Think the AA 2450s were $2.50 each ($10 for 4) so 20% off!

      • +1

        Too easy, cheers!

    • +2

      AA was previous $8.99

    • +1

      Always $8 (Vic anyway, free family card req).

    • +1

      I thought it was always $7.99. That's what I paid the last two times I bought them over the past two years.

  • +2

    Nice deal!

    • -1

      Thanks ulb yks

  • +3

    Not sure about other stores, this is the normal price with membership at Victoria Gardens for as long as I can remember. Really not a bargain.

    • +5

      You should neg.

  • +2

    These are rumoured to be Eneloop Pro's rebadged; I'm very happywith the ones I purchased some time ago. Made in Japan too… a rarity!

    • I believed that until I bought a few packs and used then in my speedlights. They self discharge faster and don't last as long in use as the old Sanyo eneloops.

      • The tests linked above say otherwise.

        • I read all those test before I bought them. They didn't translate to real life experience.

    • We all miss Sanyo ones, ever since Panasonic bought them out it has been crap in quality

      My ones from 2010-2012 still strong

  • -4

    Eneloops or GTFO.

    • not according to the review screengrab posted above from Choice. They got smashed. I know I know, blasphemy here… but maybe Eneloops aren't what they used to be?

      • They most probably tested Chinese Eneloops if the recency of this article is anything to go by.

        Ikea rechargeables are Made in Japan so should be from the only factory that makes it FDK, which was previously Sanyo Eneloop division, but was sold off so Sanyo could merge with Panasonic.

        No issues with the Ladda ones that I have bought still kicking very strong after 2.5 charges a week for the last year and a half. This is powering a portable night light.

        • They are 100% made by FDK, I know it's obvious but I know with 100% certainty.

        • @Lunawinter: Which ones? The Choice Eneloops or the Ladda?

        • @jlogic: Ladda, sorry I should have specified!

        • @Lunawinter: Yeps any LSD NiMH that is Made in Japan are made at FDK.

      • +2

        Also depends how much you trust Choice.

        The tables a bit silly given it lists Pros against the standard Eneloops without mentioning the fact ones designed as a higher capacity lower cycle battery to the other. There’s some Apples to Oranges stuff happening there.

  • After seeing this deal here I went to Ikea Springvale vic only to find out they were out of stock.

    • Are you sure? I was at Ikea Springvale around 6-7pm today and there was plenty.

    • Maybe looked in the wrong spot? shows 154 pieces in stock on the website :/

    • Lol now you'll have to go through the Maze again.

    • I missed to type 'last time'. Sorry.
