Only downside is they ask you to register a valid credit card.
And be sure to cancel before the 30 days runs out if you do not want to pay.

    • You can use Paypal also, Ive had a Skype account for a couple of years it's heaps cheaper than telstra landline.

    • ffer limited to 5,000 subscriptions in total
What happens if you subscribe and you are number 5001.
Is there any way to tell if you don't qualify before you put your CC details ?

  • i ain't putting my credit card anywhere near anything that says 'free'

This is skype your talking about. If you dont trust skype, you wouldnt trust your local supermarket… More chances of someone rigging those machines then someone hacking skype…

      • +3

I don't think he's concerned with his CC being hacked, rather the anomaly of anything free requiring valid CC details to be entered.

      • -1

Not because of skype or not because you don't know how hard it is to cancel your CC from it.

Like Microsoft XBOX Gold subscription, it will need several phone calls before you can remove your CC from it.

If you dont trust skype, you wouldnt trust your local supermarket…

Skype is owned by ebay/paypal. Two of the most trusted and revered corporations on the internet.

        • -6

Trusted? Oh please. There are countless PayPal and eBay horror stories.

        • Hmmm … even screamingly obvious irony does not work here. maybe I need to use smileys?
          God I hate smilelys :-(

    • Yeah mate. A company with over 550,000,000 (five hundred and fifty million, or over half a billion) users is obviously just a scam that wants to defraud your credit card for a few hundred dollars.

And obviously you haven't read the terms and conditions of your precious credit card. If you don't authorise a transaction then you are not liable.

You seem to be one of those who derive value of things by their cost and not their usefulness and utility.

The title should mention that this is limited to certain countries. I think that "around the world" is misleading and infers "all countries".

    • Sorry 4the _ wanted to + thanks 4 the info.

    • If you look carefully, you can get the "World Package" for free for the first month as well.
Make sure you have a valid reason for negging a deal, next time.

this offer limited to just the first 5000 subscriptions seems little when the base is already 550,000,000!

Hmm, I've had this package for some time now and it costs $6.95 all in so this new product looks like an increase to me!

    • obviously skype don't increase their prices once you start paying a monthly account, is there really a need to neg this deal if you were lucky enough to pick it up cheaper some time ago?

      • A 35% overnight increase is not a bargain in my book. Before this "bargain" it was the old price.

  • I've bought minutes from Skype before. Given that the rates are something like 3c per minute, you would have to do a lot of yakking to save a few dollars. And nearly everybody I want to talk to has Internet and Skype already. But sure, if you can use it, go for it. Just don't forget to cancel before the month is up. Probably all 5000 freebies are gone by now.

  • Not unlimited - landlines only. That's fine for calling Aunt Maud, but not most of my friends.
Please put that very big caveat in the title.

    • And only landlines that begin with 01 or 02 so not 0870, 0844 or 0845, 0800 etc.

The site saynoto0870 is good to find landline alternatives for companies with the above type of numbers. Works well for my UK bank.

    • Not true you can make free calls to mobile phones too, ie Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, Canada and USA you can call mobiles and landlines in these countries with no extra charge.

      • And that applies for any other VOIP provider for calls to these countries.

Those countries generally charge for incoming calls to mobiles, that's why they're billed as a "local" call to the caller.

Companies like PennyTel even offer untimed calls to these countries. A much better deal and an Australian company.

  • thailand doesnt appear on this freebie list. so how can you make free calls to mobile phones in Thailand? it must be p2p ie skype to skype online calls?
also i have a sypke account for the last freebie offer where i had to register a cc and cancel before 30 days. even though i have never paid for that account it wont let me sign up for free as it says account not valid. i think i need to create a new account to qualify?

    • Thailand is listed on the unlimited world list, click on see countries

    This offer is too limited.
I appreciate the poster's effort but he left out way too much details and in doing so makes the offer seems a lot better than it really is.

    1. Offer only applied to the lucky first 5000.
    2. only 37 countries are on the free call list (most are to land line only). Half of these countries are in Europe. That is hardly representative enough to be called "around the world"
    3. This deal left out China, India and the entire middle East region. When you add that up, about 2.5 Billion people are ignored.
    4. This is one their "normal" deals with a sweetener "1st month free" offer.
  • Hmmm got this error when I set it up so I can call unlimited within Australia. I am just coming out of an Australian unlimited plan so that may be why. So this might apply to me "Only Skype users who have never paid for Skype products are eligible."

"Oops - it looks like this trial has either expired or isn’t available for this Skype Name."
Please ensure you’ve signed in with the Skype Name the free trial was sent to.

I'll try again sometime next week when my other one expires and hopefully it works!
