  • Damn good price for the Google Wifi.
    Great unit too.

    • it's AC1200 device, WiFi speeds have increased a lot now.

      • Don’t worry, it’s plenty fast.

        • sure? even for streaming 4k…stutter free?

        • +1

          @ozdesi:

AC1200 will stream any 4K stutter free with heaps of bandwidth to spare. It's not like 4K will max out even a N300 (Wireless N) let alone AC1200.

        • @hollykryten:

Yep. For instance, Netflix recommends 25mbps 'net bandwidth minimum for 4k streaming. N300 will likely give a real - world 60mbps bandwidth, dependent on all sorts of factors.

For most households in Australia, 'net speeds will be the limiting factor.

        • Easy!

        • @Shobai:

N300 is theoretically 300mbps, way faster than just 25mbps. Even if it dropped to 100mbps due to signal degradation it's still fast enough for 4K. So if N300 has plenty of bandwidth for 4K video streaming then any thing more than that is plenty too. AC1200 will be absolutely fine.

        • @hollykryten: yep, I have streamed 4K rips over the wifi of my Google Wifi fine.

        • @Shobai:
Key word is Minimum. The TC1 protocol can go lower than this, but the quality drops a lot. Above this and the quality improves. If you watch action/sport, expect bursts.

        • @Magus:

          Calm down, kids.

Holly: I specifically agreed with you; AC1200 will be fine, N300 will likely be fine. Theoretical speeds are for chumps and people trying to sell you a pup, which is why I mentioned a more realistic bandwidth for N300 kit - even so, whichever value you choose to use, you'll notice that most households in Aus (like I said) will be hard pressed to match their 'net bandwidth to their local network bandwidth. As such, the 'net link will be the limiting factor, not the local network.

Magus: that's wonderful, it really is. Tell me, though, how much faster does it need to be before a user not only sees no further improvement, but also outpaces their local network?

Any 4K blu-ray player under 1 grand isn't worth buying.

    • Well, I'll bite: what would you recommend?

    • So you think that includes the PS4 Pro and Xbox One S?.
