Don't forget to disable auto-charge if it's just a once-off offer to you.

  • +7

It works without port over own number

    • +2

      really? wooo…

I thought about getting a free sim (lycamobile for example) and then port it over to kogan

      • +2

Just give it a try with fresh new Kogan number, if it didn't work, just get a free Telstra sim online

    • +5

Yes. did one last night and one just now. Got new numbers and working almost instantly.

      • +1

Oh great! Let's enjoy free data for a while 😁

  • So use this then change to catch of the day Sim?

  • Free data! Shame it's on Vodafone….

    • +1

I found it better than 2nd tier telstra resellers.

      • I've said this many times before, but the main reason I can't be on Vodafone is I don't get service half the time. Optus (including MVNOs) is better for me, but Telstra (and it's resellers) have got the best coverage.

        Note, I'm not talking speed.

        • I travel up and down the coast a lot.. coffs to gosford and find voda 4g great for that.
Performance in any static location always varies.

        • +1

@xywolap: Ah, that is where it's different. You see I tend to go down from Gosford, not up (to go to Sydney) and find that Voda service during Gosford to Hornsby very limited, or non-existent.
Performance in one location does vary, but sometimes I had 4G and sometimes I had "limited service". Bit too much of a variation for me.

        • -1

That comment helps nobody unless you specify geographical areas where your talking about.

        • @ozhunter68: Not sure who you are talking to but the previous 2 comments have both identified geographical areas. Coffs Harbour to Gosford and Gosford to Hornsby have been said.

        • @pennypincher98:

The comment I made was in relation to your comment made at 22/02/2018 15:07

When I read that comment I replied to that specific comment without reading your clarification regarding specific locations many hours later, only after "xywolap" mentioned "coffs to gosford"

So yes, I commented too early before reading later comments, but you did make a comment without location.

        • @ozhunter68: Lol yes I did, but your comment also helps nobody simply because you couldn't be bothered to read the next comment.

        • +1

          @pennypincher98:

Yes, I agree with you there.

I made a comment and did not read down till few days later after your comment, so too late to change or delete.

I try to make helpful comments like yourself as much as I can, I jumped the gun on this one.

Free optus $2 sim link is the following, you know what is the next:

    http://www.optus.com.au/shop/prepaid/sim-card/2-sim

    • +1

But you need to pay $10 to activate. Why not order this? $5 till 22nd Feb.

      http://offer.optus.com.au/shop/prepaid/sim-card/30-sim

      • Actually, if you just wanna grab a new phone number, no need to recharge any money. It just means you can't make any phone or txt out. I just operated like that and port the number out to kogan.

        • +5

I guess you haven't tried to activate a $2 Optus sim lately, Optus has a new process whereby you can not complete the activation without a minimum of $10 credit. I collected quite a few of these free sims for porting purposes but instead of chucking them in the bin, i put them in shopping centres with a 'FREE' note on them, someone else may find a use for these
I now stick to Telstra or Voda $2 SIMs, or $10 Optus starter kits discounted to $1 or $2. Incidentally Woolworths petrol stores are selling $10 kits for $3 until 6/3/2018. Optus is currently running a promo on $10 offer where you'll get 15 GB + unlimited calls and text for 7 days

        • +1

@bonz: Thank you for your feedback! I just know this new policy! by the way, is there any way to get free vodafone $2 sim?

        • +1

@jmmjbb: i got my stash of voda sims years ago when people were handing them out on the streets, in shopping centres etc, haven't seen it happening lately.
PS. you are aware for this deal, you can't port from voda to kogan?

        • +1

@bonz: Thanks. I just wanna collect some different providers' sims for preparation in future. probably they are useful at that time and I can use it immediately. Of course three main telecom sims are the best choice.

        • @bonz: Superb description of the changes in Optus $2 SIMs. Only very very minor correction would be that the $10 Optus SIMs have 100 minutes of standard national calls (rather than unlimited calls) and unlimited SMS/MMS.

@jmmjbb: I have seen free $2 vodafone SIMs at some motels, among all the brochures for local tourist attractions. That's the only place I've seen them recently.

        • @nickj: You're spot on there re. 100 minutes, deep down i knew that it was 100, don't know why i said unlimited, must have typed that in my sleep lol. Thanks for pointing it out so others would be better informed.

  • Is it possible to activate this without a credit card?

    • +1

No, just use a prepaid credit card.

    • +2

No, you need a credit card as part of the process

  • OP you might want to change the expiry date to 24/2/2017 since it's the last day to 'buy' these vouchers

    • Technically it is 25/2/2018 because it ends at 11:59pm on the 24th.

      • No technically it's not because if it's ended at 11:59pm then it didn't get to 12am which means it wasn't 25/02/2018.

        • +4

OzBargain marks the deal as expired the moment it ticks onto the specified date. The deal is still available for all of the 24th until literally the last minute.

        • +3

          @DuckKnight:
There you go, not everyone is aware of this quirk, including myself, thanks Ducky

  • So I got this and I stupidly put my phone number in for order updates at checkout. Within hours I was getting spam calls and sms. Anyone else experience this?

    • +1

It didn't happen to me the last time i bought a mobile phone voucher and SIM card from Kogan a month ago. It must have been a coincidence.

    • +1

If it is an old number being reissued it could have links caused by the previous user.

  • Also get invalid code :(

    • +1

Are you using the code to port your mobile phone number from another provider to Kogan?. The code will only work for a porting.

      • Yes, same here with two codes. Called up Kogan Mobile and they confirmed new rules to only work with porting a number over in same name etc.

  • I have a vaya SIM atm expiring pretty pretty much soon.

So I should get this deal then cancel at the end of the month then buy either a medium or large 365 day plan?

  • +5

Rus don't make it easy but I figured out his cryptic deal. All conventional methods failed so I tried porting my Kogan number(only needed to remember the number) from the previous deal last year and it worked. I entered new starter(leftover starter pack from last year) details in the next steps as I didn't have the old sim number. The number didn't port and I dare say that you could put any number in the porting field as they are bluffing. With great frustration comes great satisfaction, sometimes.

    • +1

Can you give me some more specific details on what happened? I tried to port to a random number, and the sim card can't connect to a network. Did you have to wait for the sim to work, or did it work immediately?

      • +1

It was the only way I could complete all steps to get the success message. However yesterday they sent me an email stating that porting had failed, which could be for any number of reasons. I have given up on them but still believe in a world where porting a valid number would activate this deal.

  • +3

Been recommending Kogan to my friends whenever appropriate. Weird thing is many are unaware of Kogan mobile and they can't believe what I am telling them especially the one year prepaid plan. Kogan has a great marketing approach (either accidental or intentional) when they send 2 sim cards for an order of one. With one spare, I can give out to friends. They can sign up for a plan and straight away receive an activation code. Within an hour they can port their personal mobile number across to Kogan. That happened 3 weeks ago. Now Kogan has another happy customer. BTW, I am not associated with Ruslan but I think he is a shrewd businessman.

  • thought of getting 6GB and enquiry about $10 credit, since i have 20 Voda Sims and forget kogan now…

  • -2

    Hi fellow ozbargainers,

I contacted Kogan mobile support customer service and enquired about using voucher code to recharge exsiting kogan mobile number option which states on the emails when we receive the voucher code. I was told voucher code will only work when porting from another provider. They weren't aware that on the emails they sent out, it has another options to recharge an existing kogan number.

    • +1

The codes don't work anymore at all..
They all register as "Please call customer service"
      They worked two days ago..

      • Weird. Voucher expires at 11:59pm AEDT on 31/03/2018. Activation or recharge must be made before the voucher expiry date.

Should be still working if you port a number from a non-Vodafone carrier until 31/3/18.

        • Nope. Still says call customer service in the voucher code field even if you choose to port a number.

        • +1

@cwongtech: Try your voucher code(s) with another SIM number. I experienced the same problem during the previous deal and the issue was with the SIM card number rather than the voucher codes.

        • @Reveen:
          Thanks heaps

        • @Reveen: How does this work if you're porting? Don't you port first to a specific SIM? Then apply the recharge voucher?

        • @marquise: I can't comment on that as when I experienced the problem it was with activating new numbers.

        • @Reveen: ok cheers.

  • +1

I found it required porting a number to work (as it is advertised).
I tried just activating a SIM I already had and got the "Invalid Code" message until I backtracked and put it through as a porting request.
Perhaps they have patched people being able to just register a new number?

  • Has anyone received their sims yet? Says DISPATCHED ON 21 FEBRUARY 2018 but no tracking or anything. I put in an order at the same time and received that last week. Wonder if they are having a stock issue.

    • nothing here

    • Yes, received all three that I ordered.

    • i can send you new sim cards if you need.

    • Ha. Just received in the mail today. Should have been more patient.

      • One order came through over the weekend, but only single sim inside.

  • +1

If you are receiving "Contact Customer Service" or "Invalid Code" try activating on a different sim. Some of the older Kogan sims must have expired.

    • +2

I'm getting this but am using one of the new ones that I was sent so.. not sure what's happening.

      • +2

I've just tried this with 3x different SIMs and I still got "Invalid Code".. UNTIL I selected that I was porting a number.

  • If anyone needs a voucher please pm me.

    • +1

      All gone

  • +2

Is anyone else getting Invalid Voucher when trying to set this up as a new number now?

I've just tried setting up as a new number but am getting Invalid Voucher. If I go back to the main page and say I'm porting, it seems to be fine with it… which is how it's supposed to be, but that's still a shame :P

    • +5

yep, only works if porting, no go for new number, guess they've patched it up

  • +4

Same as tarken two posts above, if anyone needs a voucher, please pm me.

    • -1

Hi if you have any vouchers left i could really use some data. Thanks

  • I used Kogan's free sim in the last offer. Do I need to use a new email address this time ?

  • +1

Just ported an Optus number across to a Kogan sim I had on hand from previous deal. Accepted on activation page and by the time I swapped the sims and turned on the phone, was functioning on Kogan/Voda straight away.

  • Ported today, no issues. It's comforting to know they ask for a voucher code at the same time, before they process the activation. I was worried it would process the port, then I'd have problems with the recharge voucher.

  • is anyone having issues with inbound calls from optus mobiles?

  • I am at Woolworths now.

What $2 Sim can I buy and activate to port from? Optus says you need to recharge to activate.

    • +2

I ordered a free sim card from telstra. It only took a couple of days to arrive and you don't need to recharge to activate.

      • +1

Thanks for the comment. I can't wait a few days as I need it tomorrow.

But I'll buy Telstra if more people can confirm either with a comment or upvoting the previous comments.

      • I ended up buying a Telstra SIM. It activated OK and now in the process of porting. What I didn't realize was porting only occurs Mondays to Saturday. I'll still have to wait a day but that's quicker then 2 to 3 days for the online Telstra SIM.

I also ended up ordering the Telstra SIM as I need it for hopefully the free voucher code offered by JLQC5899 above as I will be transferring to a new fixed line ISP in the next 2 weeks.

Does anyone know whilst I wait for the port to occur I can use data? I guess I'll find out soon. EDIT - I can't use data whilst I wait for porting.

        • +1

I only just read your comments now, otherwise would have advised anyone to not port on Sunday, but wait until Monday morning, or even after midnight Sunday, as Non of the Telcos port on Sunday, but Kogan will start the 30 day expiry from Sunday, so you miss out on a day.

I have ported on Sunday with other Telcos before and they will start the first day of activation on Monday, and went smoothly Monday morning. Not sure if it was a technical issue with Kogan's porting in last 4 months ( that's what they told me ), could be because I'm on a slow port list lol because of my many porting history/free sim XL activation, but if I start the port on a Sunday, will not be finalised until 2-3 working days and phone calls/live chat later, very annoying. New number activation's are not a problem though.

This could just be my personal experience only, not sure if others had similar problems?

        • +1

@ozhunter68: I have exactly same experience in the last few months with Kogan

        • @asx100:

Thought so much. Oh well,… you can't blame them for making it a bit harder and slowing down the sim sluts like me &

others. At least they still run this deal and we can still sample/use their Free offers for more than one sim at a time ( if

you port or activate multiple sims with different numbers up to 4 per month on same name/account/credit/debit card as far as my knowledge/experience ).

I imagine they will further close more loopholes and reduce the amount of free XL sims in same name, or slow down the internet speeds or whatever.

But for now, still thumbs up for Kogan :-)

  • Does Kogan Mobile (Vodafone) support Carrier Aggregation? Speed test on both Belong and Telstra SIM with my Moto G5 Plus support speeds of around 80mbps whilst Kogan only support 40mbps which leads me to believe that Kogan doesn't.

    • +1

I think you might be right, as I have even noticed that sometimes Kogan can be slower than Vodafone in exact same area and time. Have not done technical speed tests like yourself, but very obvious just loading similar pages using same hardware ( Vodafone latest 4G portable modem X2 ), and tethering using same phones.

  • Telstra's current bonus of 10GB on Starter Kits means I don't need this voucher. If anyone wants mine PM me.

  • +1

I just received an email telling me that the code is going to expire.

and then at the end of the email they said they could give me a new number if I dont want to port.

Anyone has try new number and works with the voucher code?

    • +3

Yes. I've tried and it works for new number. Just to enjoy the free data.

      • +1

are you sure? tried mine, it didnt work, invalid voucher :(

        • +1

Absolutely sure! I've been using the new Kogan mobile number for more than a week now.
I've also successfully ported out my the other Kogan mobile number to Telstra prepaid sim (got it free sometime ago) yesterday and ported back to Kogan mobile today using the voucher. I just wanted to try if it works and wasn't expecting that it went through so smoothly. It took less than 3 hours for the port from Telstra to Kogan to happen this morning.

        • @F1ngolf:

Maybe Kogan still activated this code for new number last week, but changed policy now. Hence people lately saying it's not working anymore for new number.

        • @F1ngolf: Do you need to wait for the existing Kogan account to be de-activated before porting back in as new customer? I did the exact thing as you. I ported out from Kogan to Telstra OK, but I notice that my kogan pre-paid account is still active. If I initiate a porting in now, my mobile number has already been attached to an existing
          account, will that be ok?

        • @asx100: I didn't check if my previous Kogan pre-paid account was still active before porting from Telstra to Kogan. I thought that once my number was ported out from Kogan to Telstra, my Kogan pre-paid account which was linked to the ported number is no more valid. Have a go and you could always call Kogan customer service to help if you face problem with the activation.

        • @F1ngolf: It has been five hours since I ported out and my kogan pre-paid still active.

        • @asx100: I ported from Kogan to Telstra and back to Kogan on different day.

        • @F1ngolf:

          One day apart?

        • +1

@JLQC5899: Yes. That was what I did; though I'm not sure if this is really necessary.

      • When did you try for "new number"?

      • +1

I just activated the sim and ported from my existing vodafone number (I didn't read the post carefully), and it didn't port successfully but still got the data plan , the number is the new number which came with the sim
