Why? My partner has been with Vaya (Optus carrier)for a while now….unlimited usual stuff plus data (which she doesn't use anyway) for $16 a month….then there's Aldi's plans…just sayin'

    • +3

Because this deal has 16x more data than your partner's plan and only 3x more expensive. A lot of people DO use a lot of data.

    • +4

well…there is the difference in network.

    • +2

Optus reception can be very bad in metro areas. It's been worse recently since unlimited Netflix streaming. Last year I had no issues from home, now I get no internet in my suburb during peak hour (Sydney inner city). Meanwhile telstra colleagues are laughing in my face about it.

      • +1

I think Optus has become worse, and perhaps worse than Vodafone.

  • +1

Anyone salty about getting 20GB for the same price last deal, just hit them up on 24x7 chat and ask for the 5GB loyalty bonus, don't give up until you get the text message confirming your data cap has increased.

    • +1

Dude no not really, because when I signed up for the 20gb plan I triple checked with the jb hi fi employee that the credit will stay on even after the plan had ended. It seems that on this plan the credit expires after the initial plan is over. I might go on to live chat and see if I can get that extra 5gb.

  • +2

Just need a good S8 deal and I will do this. Anyone know if you can haggle with JB on headset price?

  • Anyone know how long this lasts?

    • Will be around for a while

    • Lady at JB said until the 16th of this month.

  • Once you sign up can you upgrade to another plan with telstra before the 12 month expiry?

    • +1

Yes, as long as it’s the same value or higher, or includes a phone.

  • Bring your Number to Telstra - On a minimum $59 Go Mobile BYO Plus Plan2 over 12 months

Awesome deal OP, but just wondering why it says minimum $59 BYO plan if its only $49 a month?
    NVM: answered above

  • +3

in a way, if you look at it, telstra is rewarding new customers, and shunning existing customers. eg: if someone is on telstra right now, but a crappy old plan, thats more expensive, with 500mb data, they cant upgrade to this awesome deal.

    • -1

500mb? Data inclusions have grown exponentially since those days. Those customers would be well and truly out of contract.

As for rewarding customers, customers with more than 1 service get a 5gb loyalty benefit. So they are still being looked after

      • +1

Out of contract yes, however if they were an existing telstra customer, they will not be eligible for this plan

        • +1

If they're out of contact there's nothing stopping them porting out then in

        • +3

@Quantumcat: should an existing customer really have to go through all this hassle???

Real customer service would be telstra simply offering this to the customer

Can you realistically imagine a mum n pop average consumer going through the porting in and out process. . That's just ridiculous.

        • @DiscoJango: if someone doesn't know how to change contracts after theirs is ended then there's no reason for Telstra to do anything with them

  • is there is still an equivalent of the $59 F&F plan upgrade offer with a handset? maybe https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/363865? (Though that says new customers only…)

If so let me know, looking for plan for missus. and refer previous thread for hacks.

i'm on 24 month plan with 25GB, $49/mo, 2 pixels, and ended up with $320 JB Cash

    • How did you get this?

  • +1

Is this in all stores nationwide? As the deal on their website hasn't been updated - https://www.jbhifi.com.au/features/phones/activatenow/

    • +1

I suppose it’s national wife like last time. Store staff said it just got released today.

      • +3

        I suppose it’s national wife…

        Is that an omnipresent partner?

        • +1

          lol, I love autocorrection

  • +1

It's a weird world when 4G data plans are bigger than the home broadband plan I had like 10 years ago lol

    • ++ more data
      ++ cheaper
      ++ more reliable
      ++ faster

      — ISP metadata retention*
      — Internet censorship*

      *can be worked around

  • How long does it take in store to sign up for this deal?

I'm wondering about the amount of time involved in JB, a store I wouldn't choose to go to.

    • I can answer my own question. it took 20 minutes, but porting was done before I left the store.

It's a relief to be back on Telstra after I tried Kogan for three months.

  • +1

Does anyone know when this offer expires? luckily my sim only plan finishes on 6/3 and I'm also due for an outright phone upgrade so the $200 GC will be put to good use.

  • Anyone know if its possible to get a second sim and shard the data (for a tablet)

If so, how much extra ?

    • +1

Yes; $5 a month and you get 100MB extra data.

  • Anyone know how long the deal is for?

  • Why do people consider this plan better than the $40 for 28GB virgin BYO plan?
Sure you get a $200 JB voucher, but isnt cash in hand better than a voucher to spend at a specific store?

Also if your in metro sydney most of the time, i dont normally see much difference between Optus and Telstra. Do other people?

And Virgin offers data free music streaming, data rollover and data sharing.

    • +2

Coming from Optus, there is a difference in Sydney CBD. I live inner city, Optus reception is terrible. Even at my home for the last 4 months they have had towers down for repair and I don't get reception. It's night and day for me, my phone is flying and I have had no issues at all with reception. In my office I get full bars rather than 1/4. Also when I go travelling, my friends on Telstra always have reception while I have none on Optus.

      Also telstra offers data sharing.

    • +3

Sell the voucher on the OZB classifieds for $150. You get $150 cash in hand.
You can invest this for 12 months, earn 3ish in the bank, or put it in crypto and retire next year!
      Also reception, congestion, etc.

  • I signed up for the same deal 6 months ago for 20gb
Is there anyway I can get this deal?

Would I have to pay out the rest of the plan and then do a sim switch?
Or am I locked in for the next 6 months 🤷‍♂️🤔

    • Live chat with Telstra, they may give you extra 5gbs but you won’t get away from the contract term thus no jb gift card.

    • I’d assume you’re locked in, but there’s a chance the deal will be back then anyway.

  • +1

As an existing Telstra customer, I'm looking to go down the 'port to Vodaphone, port back to Telstra' route. I have other services under my account (parents still on my old staff plan). My question is, will JB look at just this service when they determine you're a "new customer", or do they consider you an existing customer if you have other services under your account?

    TIA for any help.

    • +1

It's per phone number as far as I'm aware because they just lookup the mobile number on a database.

But be careful, there have been people saying the port out/port in loophole is not working anymore.

      Eg https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/5693529/redir

      • +1

need to be away from Telstra for at least overnight

    • Thanks @John Kimble and @xavierod for the replies. Was going to drop by JB on the way home tonight, but maybe should leave it for tomorrow… I confirmed as well that parents are on a separate account number under my Telstra login, so that should be fine.

      • Hey happykamper,
Did you do the port to Vodaphone and port back to Telstra trick, and did it end up working?
        Thanks.

        • +1

Hi. Yes so got it in the end. Got a prepaid SIM from Vodaphone shop (their registers were so busy, the guy just gave it to me for free), ported to Vodaphone straight away. Went to JB the next day, and Telstra account was still active, even though I was able to use Voda SIM. Went over the road to Voda, who confirmed ported over on their end. JB staff member was very helpful and contacted Telstra to push through account deactivation on my behalf. Went back next day and all deactivation had gone though. Ported across from Vodaphone to Telstra very easily and now back on the new plan with the 25gb, and 200 dollar JB voucher. Bit of hassle, but worked out in the end.

        • @happykamper:

          Thanks for the update!

  • Is this a JB Hi Fi Deal or Telstra stores or both?

  • +1

I ported my phone from telstra to optus yesterday to only be told that my accounts still active…. No deal for me

    • Chat with Telstra and ask them to remove your account. Wait for a couple of days. I waited a week last time and finally had my name completely removed from their system. If you check comments above some says this method doesn’t quite work anymore. You got to wait for 3 months.

      • I reckon my problem was that my service was still "active" on the Telstra system.
I only received the disconnection notice email when the JB guy was looking at my account, to which it automatically switched to disconnected. but this was enough for him to contact the telstra help desk. They said its a 30 day wait for a port back. not 3 months.

I ported to optus around 28 hours before I went to JB. But, I just confirmed with Telstra chat that my account is now "disconnected" and ported successfully. So, I'll try a different store tomorrow. Hopefully the person is a bit a noob or hates there job and just signs me up.

I'll post an update if i was successful. Otherwise i'll wait till the 14th when my billing cycle ends.

      • JB Staff have access to Siebel, and authority to call Telstra helpdesk and request your service is fully disconnected. I had a very friendly and helpful staff member do this on my behalf.

  • I just tried at JB Osborne park and the guy saw my number in Telstra (I ported to voda yesterday) he said it takes a billing cycle (30 days) to remove from the telstra system when you port out and to come back in a month. I don't think the deal will still be going though so Im screwed.

  • +1

Ok, just spoke to telstra and there may be a convuluted way around this.

    1. Activate an optus (eg) sim new number.
    2. Use new number to sign up to JB plan.
    3. Port original number back into telstra pre-paid.
    4. Apply to telstra to swap service numbers over, note that telstra refer to this a "prepaid to postpaid and a postpaid to prepaid" switch but there are no implications and existing plans stay same apart from number change.
    • I thought Telstra mobile plans were assigned to the phone number they where given to. If you request to change this number it might be a break in contract.

      • I voiced this concern and the guy said no it would be ok, but……you never till you try.

        • Let me know how you go if you go through with it. I'm in the same boat

        • I tried again at another jb store, the person saw my number and that it was disconnected but the port request date was still online under my phone number.

So it didn't work, But after chatting with t jb dude he did allow me to sign up to the plan with the $10 discount and 25g. I just didn't get the voucher.

So at least I'm $30 better off with and extra 10g of data up my sleeve.

Worst comes I'd try that if you need to get back on.

    • I have done that before except the port in part as borh my numbers were Telstra

. Took sometime to swap but in the end everything works fine

    • Well after a struggle to get an optus prepaid sim activated I went into JB's but a different store (was visiting the olds).

I asked the guy to try my voda number first and of course the system showed me as having been a very recent telstra customer, I was reaching for the optus number when the guys said 'cool won't have to do the full credit check' and just kept on doing the paperwork.

He furrowed his brow a few times and kept going between a few systems (I assume JB's and telstra) but eventually my voda number was ported across and activated, he then printed out the voucher redemption for the 200 and sent me on my way. Contract states the $10 discount as well as the extra 10GB data on the telstra $59 byo mobile plan.

NB - I did buy a new phone from them as well (LG V30) so I don't know if that had anything to do with the active tesltra account being ignored or just whether its who you ask.

What to do with the optus prepaid number….may try porting it to telstra prepaid and seeing if I can get the 5GB added shared data for multiple telstra services :)

  • Damn, if only it had international calls included.

  • Hey guys, of you are coming from Optus, get your account number from their website as they have changed systems and the account numbers have changed. It should stay with 62. I gave the one that was in my last bill, and it took over 2 hours for JB to find out why it wasn't porting. Now have to wait another 24 hours for port

  • +2

I switched to Telstra under this deal ($49/m, 12 months), I leave all the details you need to know. The plan is also a shared Data plan, So I decided to buy a $5/month extra shared data sim from Telstra to share 25.1 GB data with a tablet too.

    Critical Information Summary

    • One telstra associate here mentioned the $10 port in bonus is only for 12 months and reverts back to 59 after. Here it says until recontract?

      • +1

It is what you get on the contract (copy pasted from pdf) no mention of revert back after 12 months, however the base BYO plan is for 12 months so you need to renew/recontact.

In one year, plans will be more competitive and they will be happy to offer the same or even a better plan.

    • Wouldn't it be great if you just happen to have a Telstra Air wifi right outside your home.

  • If I have 2 numbers on my account, and I bring them both across, do I get 2x $200 vouchers????

    • Why not?

      • Can confirm 2x $200 Vouchers, and +5Gb to share (55Gb Total)

        • Did you have to ask for the extra 5Gb, or did they offer it?

        • +1

          @KablammoNick:
It was offered, but I believe because I had two services (Shared bonus?)
I didn't get a copy of the detailed paperwork, so can't be sure what its called. Sorry.

        • @Draxxx:
No worries, will try my luck next week!

  • Does anyone know how long this deal will last?

    • Not end dates so far. JB Hi-Fi The Strand Arcade told me it will last till April but I doubt it.

    • The lady at JB told me the 16th of this month.

  • +3

Ported my number to Optus yesterday, went to JB Hi-Fi Town hall, the staff advised need to wait 4 months before i can be considered a new client bla bla bla… went to JB Hi-Fi Strand Arcade, no questions and straight to application process, however, my number still shown on Telstra’s system so can’t proceed. Today i checked again and my number still shown as active on Telstra, started a 7X24 chat, said my service is fullly activated with Optus and request to discocount, they checked with the support team and manually disconnected my telstra service. Then it WORKS, my service disconnected and disappeared on my Telstra account. Went straight to JB Hi-Fi Blacktown, signed up without any issues!! After the signed up, started another 7X24 Chat and request 5GB free bonus data. So all together 25GB+5GB on 59/Month with 10 credit + 200 JB GC. OZ bargain !!! :)

  • You guys know any similar plans with international calls included? No international calls kills this deal for me.

    • You can add unlimited free International calls for $10 extra.

      • Can you please tell me where I can find this info?

    • 10Gb less data and international is limited but may suit your needs…

      https://boost.com.au/plans-2/

      $40/m

Unlimited calls & text in Australia, 15GB data, 100 international minutes to 50 countries, free Apple Music streaming, and unused data rolls over to next month.

I tried chatting to this guy called Amvil about whether I would have to go instore for this deal or if he could do it online. He told me that they do not have this deal and that the offer was "unofficial". When I replied that there were some people who could sign up to this deal (according to ozbargin), he commented "you are also unsure that offer is valid" and "Please refrain from believing on what you can see on the forum". Can someone who had signed up to this deal or an associate please confirm how I will be able to get this deal?

  • +1

    My experience so far :)

    Friday afternoon
    - Picked up $2 vodafone sim pack from BP service station
    - Ported number and got successful port confirmation on vodafone's side within 1 hour
    Saturday morning
    - Dropped into JB Hifi and the guy was keen and doing what he could for me but could see that whilst ported it wasn't fully out of their system
    - He spoke to a telstra service person who confirmed the above and apparently my disconnect has been lodged
    - He said this can take up to 24 hours and being a weekend its more likely Monday
    - I'm going to jump on a live chat and see if I can get it removed and return to the store today

Worst case scenario that I know of is I wait till Monday. I've purchased $8 recharge from vodafone just so I've got some data + minutes for this next 48 hours when I'm away from home wifi.

    • So I ported to Optus last night with a $2 sim from the local Caltex Woolworths.

Ported last night and was all transferred across within 15 minutes…however still showing in the Telstra 24x7 app as a current service. Based on the message above from jackyljj I tried jumping on Telstra chat and requesting a manual disconnection but this seemed to confuse them and the suggested I just call 132200 to try and have it sorted.

Was going to try JB Hifi this afternoon but I suspect I will have similar issues as iOURIveN.

Hoping that waiting until Monday resolves it and I can jump onto this deal.

    • +1

      Quick update,

      • Got on that live chat and they confirmed everything had been disconnected and out of their system. Unsure if they did it on the spot or if it had already been processed from the request made earlier at JB HiFi.
      • Phoned JB HiFi and got on to the rep I had earlier and they confirmed it was out of the system and they could make the order
      • Returned to JB Hifi in person and it was smooth sailing from there
      • Now on the $49 25GB Plan and got the $200 voucher

I can't say the process was as simple for me as it was for others but most of it comes down to timing and patience. I eagerly ported on Friday when it probably would have been better to wait till the following Monday and then just wait over night. Partly this came down to FOMO on the awesome deal.

I had come out of a previous $49 10GB 12 month plan in Jan 2018 so this was perfect switch (+15GB for $0 extra) with the bonus voucher. Maybe next year I'll be able to upgrade yet again :)

Is it worth the potential hassle, well for me 100% it was. Depending on your circumstance I'd say having another mobile with data would be handy as a backup or just don't leave areas which have wifi if the process throws you a few curve balls / delays.

  • +3

Just want to add that I was able to successfully port from an existing Telstra post paid service to voda prepaid, then back to Telstra.

Had to recharge 10$ onto voda to confirm service, then also logged onto 24x7 chat and asked them to delete anything related to my previous billing account. Once I checked that my old account was deleted, I went to JB and boom, no details on the system and was all smooth sailing from there.

  • Chongsu, Are you my doppelganger? Are you 6"4 tall, tanned skin and blue eyed blonde hair like me? Because that experience was exactly what I just did as well. Went from Boost-Vodafone-Telstra, Waited over the weekend and Boom! 😆😆😆

  • $49/month for 25gb without any free music/netflix streaming + $10 for international call pack + $5 Number Share for Apple Watch = $64/month

Does anyone feel this is value for money? I was for some godforsaken reason declined credit with Optus when I applied for their click frenzy deal a few days ago. $30 for 15gb plus 200 mins intl call + $5 Number share for apple watch would've = $35/month

I just can't seem to wrap my head around this price difference for Telstra.

Definitely don't want to switch to Vodafone, but I do want to get the number share for my apple watch which only these three have for now.

    • Depends on what you use it for, my main data usage falls outside of the free music / netflix streaming, I don't talk to my relatives outside of Australia, don't have an apple watch lol so none of these things affect me.

An extra 15GB ontop of my current plan for 9 dollars extra is worth it considering even a few months over my main limit will cost me 10P/GB.

  • +1

If anyone wants to sell me a JB HiFi gift card I'll pay $150 for the $200 card. I'm after 2 cards

    • PM me if you can

  • This might seem trivial considering it's purely just for a day or two but:
Optus $2 Sim or Vodafone $2 Sim?
… is anyone in favour of either for any reason, perhaps speed and ease of porting?

    • Actually I just realised the small print on these, "$10 minimum recharge required to activate sim"… well ain't that just stupid!

      • So given the fluff in my previous comment, I might just go for one of these:
        http://www.kmart.com.au/product/optus-$10-sim-+-recharge/1630801
        Currently $5 at Kmart.

  • If people are prepared to wait the 2 days it takes for delivery.
$10 Optus Prepaid Starter Sims are currently only $3, only available online and until the 13th March.
    http://www.optus.com.au/shop/prepaid/sim-card/10-sim

  • I'm in the process of signing up for this deal now. My number is taking a while to port back over to Telstra (after porting from Telstra to Optus Prepaid last-night/this-morning). The rep at JB HiFi said he can't give me the $200 voucher until the Port has been confirmed. So I have to go back into store once the port has been activated and confirmed in order to collect my $200 voucher. I am slightly sceptical as to whether they will in fact give me the $200 voucher as the entire process seemed a bit too casual to be honest.

    • +1

I got the gift card before even i ported over successfully

      • Yeah, apparently there have been cases where people have managed to scam JB for multiple gift cards when the port isn't confirmed. I dunno how it works but the store rep was pretty particular and thorough. My order has completed now, so finally on a cheaper plan with plenty of data. Tried to get an extra 5gb via 24/7 chat, but they wouldn't allow it, stating I already have a bonus 10GB. All good though, 25gb is plenty compared to the 2gb per month I've had for the last two years.

  • Just signed up but my data only showed up as 15GB. Anyone had similar problem?

    • Mine says 25gb in the Telstra 24/7 app. My contract states 15Gb + 10GB Bonus.
