Yeah went back to jbhifi, they forgot to add the 10GB extra data

I rang my local JB Hi-Fi this morning and the lady said this deal ends on the 16th of this month. Not sure if anyone has posted a comment about this already but just thought I'd share for anyone wanting to get this deal.

    • +1

thank you! deal updated with expiry date.

    • +1

Confusingly, my local JB claims it's going until end of March.

      • Well atleast we have a rough estimate

  • Does anyone know if there is any way to do this online/over the phone? Closest store is a half hour drive away and no where in the direction I commute. Don't want to have to leave work middle of the day to go and get this deal.

    • You can try at JB Hi-Fi and also Telstra stores.

Thanks to everyone in the post for the great advice. I managed to get the deal myself, a quick timeline of what I did in case anyone can try and do it before it expires.

    • Yesterday morning I bought an Optus $2 sim from Coles, ported my number, signed up to a $10 plan. Optus was up and running pretty much straight away
    • Got on to live chat with Telstra and claimed that my new provider was having troubles with my number, and asked them to manually disconnect it for me, gave me a reference number, monitored it throughout the day, at the end of the day it was complete
    • Went in to JB Hifi (Melbourne Central) this morning, signed up. Asked if I had anything with Telstra as I was already in the system. Claimed I used to have a service a while ago. Gave them my number, got a port out SMS from optus, my Telstra account was activated instantly. Got the deal as described, no hassles.
  • For those who have done this - what does the process at JB HIFi entail? Also, do you need to bring any documentation or do you just need a credit card and drivers license? Thanks

  • Still Available

  • OFFER STILL AVAILABLE! Thanks, OP. The $200 gift card was the sweetener for me. Just signed up this morning and have listed the gift card for sale. Funnily enough, I was on live chat with Telstra last night asking if they could offer anything better than their deal. The agent agreed that I should go with the JB offer as it was better than Telstra's LOL!

  • Expiry removed.

  • I’m Telstra prepaid, after being on plans for the last 12 years I decided I want sown freedom. Now I want some of these deals. Who should I port away to so I can port back again, will Boost count as porting away from Telstra?

    • +2

I don't think it does as they use the same billing system.

Any other carrier you can get a Sim card for will work

  • +3

If you don't need Telstra have a look at Virgin
    https://www.virginmobile.com.au/monthly-mobile-plans/sim-pla…

They have 20% off Sim only plans.
$32 gets you 18gb and $200 of international calls.

It's not as much data but you get data rollover and the monthly cost is less.

    • I'm on one of there $32 plans and have no complaints.

    • not sure why you got down voted

      • Maybe they love Telstra

        • i love telstra - but hearing about other options is good!!!

        • @flashi007:

Me too, especially because I am in remote areas or on the water a lot.

But the other carriers are also good and offer things that Telstra doesn't. I don't think any carrier is perfect

  • how about kogan 20gb per month and unlimited no contract

    • Quite a difference between the Telstra and Vodafone network.

  • So effectly this is almost like 4 months free considering value of the vouncher

  • Went in to 2 JB stores, just a warning that you need to must bring a drivers license or passport to signup. I only had my student card and keypass and they refused to let me sign up - looks like you need some Government ID so they can enter the number into the system or something.

Would probably be for a credit check…

  • Just ported over to this Telstra deal from "Optus BYO Sim $30 a month for 12GB".

Taking in consideration of the JB $200 gift card, works out to be around $32.33 a month for 25GB.

Then added "Data Share SIM Plan" for $5 a month (extra 100mb), to use for my iPad Mini 2, in which the 25.1GB data pool is shared.

Glad to be back on Telstra's network :D

  • Anyone know when this promo ends?

  • How does this compare with the Mx deal of 25 gig that ends today?

    • +1

The same except this one has the $200 gift card

      • +1

i thought for mx you can only use online support.

  • I have 2 questions, when does the $10 credit and bonus 10 gb expire, after the year? Or does it roll over?

    • +1

JB Hifi confirmed the credit and data bonus both just roll over until you recontract. Sweet.

  • +1

I went I to JB to ask about this offer yesterday.

It is still valid. There is no formal expiry anywhere - I asked both in store and via their call centre…

  • Ok, so after getting this deal from JB yesterday, I went on the Telstra online chat and asked for the Telstra Thanks 5gb Bonus Data and I got it. Nice & easy.

    • I just tried that and they said "can't get this if you haven't received an email or SMS offer". Any tips?

      • They don’t have a way to track if you received sms or email. At least not the online chat department.

  • Just ported my number using this deal, no issues at all!

  • Anyone know if this is still a thing? Or has it expired?

  • +1

I can confirm it’s still available. I just did one today. Ported out from Telstra and ported straight back after about an hour.

I was told that if you are coming from Telstra postpaid you need to port out and wait 30 days, but coming from Telstra prepaid has no such restriction.

  • Check with jb hi Fi garden city today, this deal is active until 30 April.

  • Success. Ported to Amaysim this morning which was almost instantaneous, live chatted with Telstra to ensure the service was disconnected then waited for the 24x7 app to show I had no services. Walked into JB this afternoon and successfully got the deal. I watched the attendant go through the process and could see on her screen that I had no existing services with Telstra but I had been invoiced recently for a service. No questions were asked though she just used those details to pre-fill my information.

Getting this extra 5gb is hard work.
3 attempts with no success to date:
1st consultant allegedly applied the bonus 5gb data to my account and gave me a ref number. However, it has been 5 days and still the bonus data has not appeared under my account.
2nd consultant: said 1st consultant could not apply the bonus 5gb to my account as I was already receiving bonus data as part of mobile plan. I even provided the ref. Number to no avail.
    3rd consultant: Also said no.

Sweet talking the automated consultant Codi may yield better results!?!

  • Just got on this deal today. Went from Boost to Voda To Telstra, total time taken was 2 days but i had some bad luck being that the voda sim i got was DOA. Other then that JB-HIFI was a breeze, phone instantly ported as well. Back on the Telstra network. Gonna try got 5GB now.

  • Just ported from virgin. Took minutes from start to finish. On the telstra network now. Time to get the extra 5GB.

Ninja edit: got the extra 5GB with minimal fuss. Went on live chat. A few minutes later received sms informing of the extra 5GB added to my plan.

    • What did you say to get it? I'm having trouble…

      • This was the live chat.

I asked them about the bonus 5GB extra on this plan.

They asked how much the plan was and my details. Name, d.o.b, address, account number. The usual stuff to verify you say to prove you are who you say you are.

Then shortly after gave me a reference number for this added 5GB.

Not long after this I get an SMS saying my quota is now 30GB.

Never had to mention I have a Telstra landline (which I do so not sure if that played a part) nor mentioned something about loyalty bonus.

        • Thanks - I've got it now, only because I mentioned I have a landline too.

  • Just went to a JB Hi-Fi store now and they said this deal is on till the end of the month and you can't have been a Telstra customer for the last 6 months! Dunno what to believe…

    • +2

Well obviously believe that guy and not the countless of people on Ozbargain who have ported and ported back in the same day.

      • So what is the cheapest SIM/option to port out of Telstra to? Aldi or amaysim I am guessing?

        • +1

Amaysims $10 sim gives you 1gb of data to play with on the off chance you're unsuccessful at JB and need to be on the sim for a day or two.

    • I tried this today having ported my number out to amaysim earlier in the week.
They put me on the plan but said that there needed to be 30 days out of Telstra to get the gift card.
It's still better than the 15gb that Telstra were offering for $59 so I took it.
