iPhone SE 32GB Optus Prepaid $299 (In Store) @ Australia Post

1870

Purchased an iPhone SE 32GB from Australia Post today for $299. Looked like it is their regular price now (no markdown ticket). Outdated phone, but was only buying it for a relative so thought it was a good price. Possibly only available at selected stores.

Mod: Limited stock, likely to only be found at corporate owned locations (not franchises). Thanks EarlyBird. Limited stock available (deal was previously removed last week as the OP posted a deal but there was no stock available at that particular store, in this case stock was noted by the OP and other users).

The best 4” phone currently available. A shame they used a 1st gen Touch ID module though (so not quite an iPhone 6S mini). Also eligible for Apple’s battery replacement program should you want one in the future. Have had mine for almost two years now. I don’t see myself upgrading to a new iPhone soon unless Apple manages to pack a slightly bigger screen in the same overall dimensions.

  • i think they are currently selling iphone 6 32gb for $459… you will receive 10% discount if purchaser is AP staff,,,and you will receive gst refund if you are going to overseas….

    • +1

That was the last iPhone with 1GB of ram - not really enough for iOS11 and probably not supported anymore later this year when iOS12 is released.

    • +1

and you might find $5 in the parking lot.

  • -1

How much does it cost to unlock the phone from Optus?

  • Which stores has this available?

    • Well, there was in postcode 4700. Someone with inside info might be able to tell you, or "let your fingers do the walking".

  • +1

Now, I know no one is psychic, but has anyone heard rumblings of if Apple will release a new phone of this physical size? I can't use anything bigger, my hands are too small!

    • You won’t need to use your hands in future https://goo.gl/images/qKVYxJ

      • Oh dear, they're well behind schedule…

    • There are several conflicting rumours including the possibility of it being killed completely and/or replaced with a significantly larger unit.
In my personal view there is a reasonable possibility it will receive a speed bump this month with the same or slightly larger screen.

  • +4

Still think it’s the best iPhone made. It got slow with iOS11.0 but with iOS11.2 it’s blazing fast, I think faster than it’s ever been.

  • went into ACT post office they said they only had telstra linked iphones and were 429. where did u get this one?

  • Agreed. Sold mine for 300 few months ago, only.cos I needed a better camera so updated to canon g7x mk ii. The phone is blazing fast and more reliable than a couple of androids i have atm

      • +3

Lol nope. About half the speed on benchmarks for galaxy. And apple always better at processors than Qualcomm. 4k video is better too I used to film a lot iñ 4k, colour grade and edit in Premiere Pro.

Only thing better was bigger screen size of galaxy and potentially the screen quality.

      • Please watch this. S5 should be 4 gens behind SE.

      • Lol says No One ever.

      • +2

I have galaxy S5 is still a better phone than SE

Better as a door wedge or paperweight?

The s5 is so old that it’s surprising that it still hold a charge.

  • +7

The good thing about this phone is 2gb of ram. This will help it hold up a bit better with future updates.

Also this phone has features like the headphone jack. You don’t see this on a lot of new phones now. So if it’s something you value, then this is one of the last iPhones to offer it.

    • +2

Significantly understated. This is an iphone 6s packed into a smaller package so its a VERY POWERFUL phone with a very good camera !

      • +1

Yes, it's very understated, so much so it has been totally off my radar and I didn't consider it a couple of months ago when I bought the iPhone X. Slight regrets right now as I think in hindsight I would have bought this instead.

        • +1

My SE is the reason I haven't upgraded to an X. I went from a 5s to an SE and it was a big jump in performance, I'm super happy with this phone.

        • +2

@44sunsets: Yep, don't get me wrong the iPhone X is very nice but overall overpriced for what it is.

But this is gold at $299 outright!

      • +2

I 100% agree but the other people are also technically correct in that the 6S guts are a few years old now.
Regardless $299 is a bargain for what you get and highly recommended.

        • +1

The other people are NOT technically correct.
          1. The SE is still a CURRENT model and still being sold by Apple and retailers.
          2. the SE is still the most powerful 4" phone in the world
          3. The SE has not yet been superseded by another 4" iphone

For something to be old there must be a newer model - which there isnt. They are just jealous nit-pickers

  • +1

Can the OP post the receipt for potential price matches elsewhere? Thanks.

    • -1

Buckleys. Nobody will price match on clearance items and it must be local anyway so you got to be in Rocky

      • +1

The OP specificly stated it looked like new normal price so evidently that’s how it is reflected on the receipt. If the receipt does not state it’s marked down then it can be used for a price match

        • Buddy these are being sold by Apple for $549
          Elsewhere for about $479
So dont tell me its a not CLEARANCE ITEM!

And you missed the point that it must be "local" for price matching as well

  • Does anyone know how I can go buy one using OP's receipt? There's an Auspost nearby but I don't think they sell iphones there. Regardless, do I just tell them here's a receipt of someone getting it for this price, can you price match?

    • You can't use OPs receipt!
      Its hard enough finding stock.
      $399+ elsewhere. OP very lucky!

  • +1

None available at Chullora NSW. They confirmed that they don’t keep this one

  • +2

    Absolute bargain! Selling $399+ elsewhere
And YES, it is still a CURRENT iphone and a fantastic one at that!

  • Got one $299 at Maitland. Was $399 on shelf and the lovely bloke checked the code n it came up as $299! Yay!

    • +1

Inquired and was told there was a sudden demand for them but stock was scarce.
Advised there was one at Beenleigh QLD.
Too far away for me so heads up for anyone in that area interested.

  • The is sick around but it is limited.

In QLD Nerang had one but on hold for someone. Beenleigh had one on hold for me. Booval had some, not sure if they still do.

    Good find OP.

  • +2

Thanks tallysgirl. Got one and can confirm it's the normal price.
For those still hunting, only the corporate branches of Auspost have to stock prepaid phones, the franchise ones are not obliged to carry any.

    • Which store you got one from?

  • I purchased one for $299 at an AusPost in Moorooka, Brisbane. Thanks OP!

  • -6

Just FYI for anyone that is interested I bought a brand new one on ebay for about $250. It only has 16GB and it seems to have come from Japan (camera shutter sound is always on) but is perfect until the next model comes out. When that happens I expect to be able to resell it for at least $200.

    • So an import that’s got less storage and questionable warranty, how is that relevant to this deal?

      • I think he is hyping the resale value.

  • +1

Saw one today at Artarmon Post Office but it's $399 even after being scanned.

    • Thats still $80 less than JB Hifi

  • Thanks for your info OP, bought one at Brandon Park S/C AP shop, Melb for $299.00

  • +1

Picked up one at lunch; interestingly they had both the Telstra and Optus versions (same iPhone SE 32GB space grey with prepaid sim for the respective network). The Telstra one was $399 (I even got the lady to scan it for me to confirm) and the Optus one $299.

    • from which store?

      • Dickson, ACT. Pretty sure I took the last Optus one.

    • Thats funny. But very good information

  • +1

Out of stock almost everywhere !

    Apple still draws powerful attention

  • FYI for those in the near - the last two in Bendigo are no longer there.

  • Mt Ommaney has one; scans at $399.

    • Same with Kenmore :-(

Its not the same as 6s… ForceTouch (3D touch) IS not a gimmick! I wanted the SE but wasn't included. For those who say they downgraded from Iphone 8 to SE are missing out some of the features that aren't in the SE.

6s was the first phone to come out with ForceTouch and was a big game changer.

    • +1

Some users find 3D Touch indispensable while others ignore it or forget it is there (ebabling 3D Touch is a somewhat guessing game). So if it's important to you then go for it, if it isn't a big deal to you then there's no point paying more than double for a feature you seldom use. A lot of people use tablets mostly at home these days and they prefer a smaller smartphone when they are out and about.

    • People are describing it in the sense of where it fits in the evolution of SoC so it can be easily understood it will perform at the level of a 6S.
If it was identical to a 6S it would be a 6S. Rolls eyes.

    • I beg to differ.
Essentially exactly the same internal powerhouse and rear camera as an iphone 6s which is what counts the most!
But with a 5s body, screen, Touch ID and facetime camera.
Definitely not a case of "what you see is what you get"

I have an iphone SE and I love it…..
Fantastic future-proof phone and great camera.

Ideal for any guy who likes to keep his phone (comfortably) in his pocket - whether pants or shirt without constantly being conscious of it.
Great for women too who like to keep it in thier purse or tiny handbag

Definitely has a very strong following and unmatched by any other phone!

Couldn't find any in the three Perth CBD stores.

    • Bugger. If you do find any grab 2 and I'll happily buy one off you for $300. ;)

      • Be nice!…..Plus commission

    • Which stores did you check in CBD ?

      • +1

Cloisters, St George's Tce and the one in the train station.

        • +2

I checked Mirrabooka they got Telstra but at $399 no Optus. Checked Yokine also nothing

  • +2

No luck at Carlton South and Fitzroy South.

    • Did you end up finding one? I’m going to call around on Monday or Tuesday whenever they’re back open.

      • Ended up finding some down on the Mornington Peninsula. Two across two stores.

        • which shop in Mornington did you happen to find it? so one for each store or two for each store? thanks man.

  • +1

Harvey Norman are selling the SE again for $399 if you can't find stock at Aus Post.

    • +1

      For $100 more I’ll pass :).

  • +1

Sydney: 4 available at Haymarket and 1 at Mascot. These are the only ones left in Sydney

    • Thank you friend! Picked one up from Haymarket first thing this morning.

    • Just to let anyone still looking in Sydney: No more stock in Haymarket or Mascot

  • Found the last one in Cranbourne Park. Thanks so much OP!

  • I know it's an old thread but I've found it very helpful so thought I'd post for those on the hunt…

Was looking for a budget replacement phone after my iPhone 3GS (yes folks, some people still have these ;-p) but found that ALL the specials/clearances noted here and elsewhere had dried up with almost every major retailer selling for full retail or not far off. Rang Auspost and managed to track a Telstra one down in Adelaide Rundle Mall for $399, 150 bucks off retail. It was the last one but there may be an oddball still out there for those who want to hunt one down. Thanks to all who posted! I'm sure I'll be as happy with this as I've been with the 3GS for the last 8 years! {Tip: it'd still be going if I hadn't dropped it in the ocean on Boxing Day :-]
