Thanks. Will wait for the price to go back up before buying

    • infidel, that's so funny. Your comment was just a factual informative statement, and got such a highly up-voted reply lol.

  • Grabbed one, thanks OP.

  • On Ebay for slightly more ($9.32), 3 postive reviews: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Kogan-USB-Charger-6-8A-4-Por…

  • +1

So this one has quick charge functionality?

    • -4

      Rapid = Quick.

      • +7

No, Quick Charge is a technology solution that is not just charging with a higher current.

        • So, use of 'Rapid' in title was a joke?

        • @aboabo:

No it is rapid compared to the USB specification.

          USB 1 and 2 provide a maximum of 500mA and USB 3 900mA at 5 volts.

Chargers that advertise as fast, quick, rapid etc are supplying a higher current than the USB specification so that devices can charge faster if they are capable of drawing extra current.

Technologies such as Quick Charge and Power Delivery require a device and charger that support the standard. They can negotiate the optimal charge by varying the voltage and current.
This is how you get phones that advertise things like 7 hours use from 15 minutes charging.

          See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB#Power

Also QC requires a Snapdragon chip in the device.

        • @MrBear:

Not quite true, devices can be QC certified without using a Snapdragon chip.

For example Samsung phones that use an Exynos chip are QC certified.

    • It says "QC" nowhere, if this is what you ask.

It has 2.4 amp ports, which should allow to charge devices pretty quick.

      Not sure if that helps.

      • 12watts vs 15-18w on QC2/3 but the quality of the cables also matter somewhat.

    • +6

Reviews tend to indicate it isn't as fast as you may like..

      • +5

Eeek, voltage sagging under 5V when pulling less than an amp, not good.

        • +6

"Simply removing a cable from a samsung charger (showing 5.05 vdc & 1.05A) and plugging it into any of the ports (2.4A or 1A) the same phone (Samsung Note 3) with same cable will then drop to 4.86 vdc & 0.93A." from above review.

Other major safety & operating issues listed!

Useless! That changed my mind & did not buy. Returned a similar 4 port international charger to Bunnings for same issue.

        • +1

          @Infidel:

Yeah now I feel bad about posting that the charger is "very decent" and I can't change it now :P

It charges. Not a quality charger, but better than my friend who bought a charger in Indonesia and the cable melted.

It shouldn't electrocute you, but you will get "ghost touch"

Honestly, I'd buy a Blitzwolf 5 port charger and just buy an adapter plug for the country I want to travel to.

        • @StrayfireX:
          Yes, read your comment below.
          Hope you enjoyed your studies😀

Bunnings sold similar unit for $7.50 a few months back in deal. It charged OK, but ghost screen issue indicated poor design. Was hard to bring myself to return at that price!

But a few cheap chargers don't charge at 5V, dropping voltage when charging. That usually means slow & sometimes no charging!

As for safety… Fell apart for 1 reviewer exposing live wires…

Usually not worth buying cheapies with design & safety flaws. Some plastic shatters when dropped. (And others go up in flames!) Not what you want when travelling.

    • No it doesn't

  • Can I charge the Playstation 4 controller through this?

    • Do PlayStation controllers charge from USB?

    • You can.

    • +2

That's just an international adapter with no USB charger!

  • +2

    Thanks, ordered two.

Will no doubt lose the overseas adaptors when I need them.

  • Just needed one for my travel in 2 weeks. Thanks for the post

  • +2

These are very decent overseas chargers. I bought one to use when I was stuck in an Indonesian village for 8 months.

Something to note is that it triggers "ghost touch" in my Nexus 5 where the screen starts thinking that it's being touched when it's not.

It's not a problem if you don't use your phone while this "ghost touch" affects it (until you finish charging).

When I'm in Australia I use my Blitzwolf charger to avoid these issues, but otherwise this is a solid USB charger.

  • +1

    Looks like no C-tick.

  • +1

Looks like these have terrible reviews

  • -1

    Thanks OP.

Had $20 credit in my account so grabbed 2

If no A tick I'll return them

  • Had one that lasted only about two overseas trips and then just stopped charging.

It was good while it worked.

  • +1

I'd suggest avoiding even at the low price point. phantom touch is an indicator of a bad Y capacitor design leaking way too much transients from the mains. Someone reporting a plug coming apart is a dealbreaker. Possibly dangerous and Kogan has been in hot water for this before.

  • -2

Thanks OP ordered, this one compatible Indian power points?

  • It says 'travel', but to you think i could be used and left always on? Like behind the tv for chromecast and other USB's?

    • +1

      I wouldn’t.

Btw I use my tvs USB to power my Chromecast.

  • Just got 2 and don’t know why. But, you never know… right?

  • This thing gonna catch fire if I use it?

  • Thanks Op ordered one now I can make my travel plans.

  • Ordered one, thank you.
