    Great price for the ATH-M50X, was my recommendation for the best headphones under $400 thread, but yes, each to their own. Also, the Bose QC 35 II is cheaper at Amazon for $343.92

      I find the Bose's sound quality to be pretty average to be honest (compared to my HD598s at least). The ANC is amazing though.

          No I don't - it would definitely perform better if I did use an amp though. I think the HD598 has been discontinued (now its HD599).

          You might also want to take a look at the HD6xx offered by Massdrop, but you would probably want an amp with that.

      They are different headphones though. I use my Bose when I am travelling and they are great for blocking out jet engines and riff raff.
      I have some ATH-M50X for home music production and rockin out at home and they are much much better headphones! The Bose live in their case most of the time.

      Disagree with Bose being better than M50x. Active noise cancelling is definitely top notch on the bose, no doubt about that, but sound quality is better on M50x and that's very clear when you listen to mid frequencies.

      I have them… they're not really that comfortable i need to take them off after 1 hour or so. Clamp force hurts - maybe my head just weirdly shaped =(

        I have a hyper X cloud, thinking about upgrading to an M50X but strong clamp is a concern.

          I've tried methods to stretch it by putting something wide like a few books in between bigger than my head width to stretch it out over a few days - it helped (as before I couldn't even wear them for 10 minutes) but still I can't use it for long sessions.. YMMV. I've tried very hard to like them - they sound nice but at the end of the day I need something comfortable I can wear for long periods of time.

        I agree about the clamp of the M50x. I got some Beyerdynamic DT770s and can wear them for hours without any discomfort.

        Generally closed headphones will be tighter than open ones.

        Agreed. Owned a pair a while back and the clamp gets really uncomfortable after an hour of continuous use. Loved the sound quality though.

      I find them ridiculously comfortable.

      True, everyone’s head is different shaped but I find the big ear cushioned ear cups perfect for me.

      If you’ve got a chance to head to a JB Hifi, they seem to always be on display if you want to test them out.

      I've used them for flights overseas, they get a little warm after a few hours but it's not too bad. You can also get replacement pads made of different materials.

      Pads yes, but can buy them for < $2 on ebay to replace. I wear for about 7-8 hours a day so I guess that's fair enough. The headband on my M50 did go, but I've had the M50x for about 2 years and it's only cracking slightly so not too bad.

    ATH M50 with thicker ear pads is great. The pads that come with it are too small, I recommend at least twice as thick memory foam ones. Also bend the frick out of the band if it’s too tight, bend it almost flat and it’ll spring back in place but looser.

    Though if I were buying headphones now I’d get wireless ones. The wire is so frickin annoying.
