Very tempting. If only it was the dual sim and black :/

    • -1

It should be dual sim, i think they come standard eith that

      • +1

Nah, this model is SM-G955F, the dual sim is SM-G955FD

        • Does this model have microSD slot?

        • +1
        • +1

          Thanking you! :-) @nurries:

        • @jrandello:

I was your first comment. I feel blessed :p

          You're welcome!

        • i popped my comment cherry! ohh the rush! :-)

    • +1

The dual sim version is the non-Australian stock, warranty will most likely be an issue here.

      • Saving $100+ and having dual sim is worth more to me than warranty. I currently have the S8 and looking to upgrade.

        • do you know which imported seller has a competitive price for the dual sim model?

        • @hpkv:

          Amaysim and qd_au

        • @nurries:
Amaysim imported model costs $804. So this deal is cheaper if you care less about dual sim.

        • @hpkv:

I care a lot for dual sim.

        • @nurries:
ok so this deal is the cheapest you can get if you dont care about dual sim or it being imported? or can you get it any cheaper elshewere imported?

        • @hpkv:

I unfortunately don't know the answer to that. I've only being keeping track of imported dual sim versions.

        • @nurries:
Thanks. I've been contemplating whether I should buy this or wait for LG G6 price to drop $500…

        • @nurries:

          Why dual sim?
          For travelling overseas?

        • +2

          @Peannut:

No, I use a second number for spam pretty much. Anytime I NEED to register a number somewhere that doesn't actually need my number for any viable reason, I'll use my second sim as I don't care about it. An example would be when I'm getting a quote on a website and they make it compulsory for me to give my number before proceeding.

        • @nurries: I use my dual sim slot for data-only plan

        • @Blitzfx:
          Which plan?

        • @nurries:
using that free Kogan 23GB one from a month ago

        • @Blitzfx:

Ah, yeh. I did that too. But what about when it expires?

        • +1

@nurries: Fall back on the primary sim with 1.5GB and go back to hunting. Can't decide whether to throw out the first sim or run with a secondary one. First sim has a lot of stuff tied to the number, bank, ATO, 2FA on emails etc.

  • Samsam.

  • Why isnt this bloody thing below $600 yet?

Ive also found it for 729 (SM-G950FD) at https://www.thinkofus.com.au/samsung-galaxy-s8-dual-sim-g950…
with what looks to be free shipping. Probably its gray import though

    • +1

      this is not s8 plus?

    • That's the S8, not the S8+ which can be had for cheaper on eBay.

      • right

  • Au stock is worth it as if you break a screen it only costs $260 direct through Samsung vs $400+ third party ..

    • $260 for s8 screen is this at sydney samsung?

      • +2

Should be with any genuine Samsung service centre, I had one fixed by roadhound, by default they also replace the entire frame and the battery and sometimes rear panel. Making it look brand new

        http://www.samsung.com/au/support/screen-replacements/

        • +2

          S8 is $220, S8 plus $260

        • I also had mine fixed by Roadhound. Since it was within warranty (it happened ~18 months into a two year contract) it was completely free as well. They did the frame, battery and rear panel for me too. Good service.

    • if you break a screen

I have never broken a screen. Seems crazy to pay a premium for something that's never happened to me.

  • This any good with aldi in rural/remote areas?

    • +1

It's a Telstra blue tick phone pretty sure, I had one for a while before switching to the pixel and it was fine on ALDI in my low reception rural area

  • Can you claim TRS with this?

    • +1

Don't see why not? It's an Aussie business with an ABN.

  • +1

Btw anyone worried about speed issues on the S8, I just updated to Android Oreo and its quick as brah

    • How did you update? I'm still waiting on mine to come through :/

      • dunno it just came up on my phone…maybe u can google it?

      • Lol I upgraded to Oreo a few weeks ago and I use a HTC 10 (2016). smooth like butter :)

    • Can also vouch for this. Faster than day one (around a year old now), especially when multitasking.

  • +1

I would buy it @ Sub $600. I can see the S9 being around $800 (eBay 20%) in a couple of months. Would rather get that then.

  • What's the TRS now days is it 10% or 15% and how would people rate this phone, I heard the battery life isn't that great.

    • 10%

Battery life is decent, not as good as my Note.

  • +2

Wasn't there a slightly cheaper deal for $750 ish deal recently for AU stock?

    Found it $764 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/361590

    • It says sold out? Plus the stock from wirelessone no longer has 20% discount.

      • +1

Sorry man, key word 'was' and 'recently' was checking on cheapest price recently

        • no worries. wonder if OW will price match this? probably wont because they dont have a physical store?

  • -2

dont do it!! get the note! trust me!

    • +1

What the hell would I do with a stylus that I have 0 use for? Is a stylus and secondary camera that worth that much extra?

      • its the screen size and shape thats worth the extra money… who the hell uses a stylus?
unless you like having a weirdly tall top heavy phone what hurts your hand when u hold it for 4 min+. go the S8.

        • A friend has the note and its awkward. I dont like the square form factor one bit so the notes a deal breaker for me.

Im throwing the "weird" comment right back at your choice of phablet

        • @Hahuh:
i have and s8 now, its horrible. had all notes before it. i have convinced many many people i know to buy notes that thought the EXACT same thing as you. all because they basically held one once. they thought it was awkward, way to big to carry around all day and wouldnt even fit in most pockets. but when they bought one and had if for a while, they realised how stupid they were. 3 of them are on their 2nd or 3rd note.

        • @ego2spare: Its called an opinion. It doesn't fit my need/desire. The phone is not applicable to me and the form factor alone (no matter how positive you deem it to be) isn't enough of redeeming aspect for me to a) pay more and b) omit the function that separates the notes from the galaxies.

I have a 'square' form factor phone and use it exclusively with a case as I find the hard edges too much of a detriment to the day to day experience

  • Why don't they sell the regular S8 anymore?

  • +2

This should be the new normal for this phone, not after 20%

    • Why? It's still a top of the range phone

      • Nothing to do with top of the line or not.
There is a new version available already hovering around 1k mark
Old version's price ideally and always is 30% less.

        • That's not true at all. Have you seen the price of the S7?

        • @smuggler: Still doesn't make it right

  • +1

SydneyTec ALWAYS jacks up their price before allowing 20% discount.
Look at their Samsung S9+'s price: $1478.79 for 64Gb

  • Anyone found a tempered glass that are case friendly (spigen case) for Samsung Galaxy S8. Ebay does show case friendly glass but unsure as the edges still looks close enough to be lifted by spigen case.

    • the is only ONE glass cover for a s8.
the "whitestone dome glass" youtube it. i have it. nothing else works, ive tried them all and i rock spigen cases

  • Bought this nearly a year ago for around $750 AUD albeit its a grey import from Hong Kong but the phone is still going strong. I'm surprised this phone has not hit the $700 for AU stock yet. Nevertheless just upgraded to Oreo and is smooth ass.

  • Just an FYI, the S8 does not support project Treble even though it got updated to Oreo.
Only phones launching with Oreo are required to support Treble.
That's why the S9 has very functional custom rom support already and the S8 has been left out in large.

I know the S9 is ridiculously more expensive now for minor improvements, but in the long run it may be a good buy if you plan to use your phone for awhile.
    $789 isn't exactly cheap either.
