  • Very interested. Is the app in English? Screenshots show Chinese… :(

    • +3

I don't own one but comments are coming in from member's in this post who have received theirs.

      • +1

        Thanks!

      • Are they serious in saying 12 months

The imported gear box and the Nordic imported smart chip makes the structure more reliable and the control more intelligent. It can last up to 12 months

        • +1

They mean the battery can last 12 months. It's a CR2032, which is a largish button cell, but I'd still be suspicious of the 12 month figure. Personally I hate having to change watch batteries, so only own either solar or self winding watches now, but I guess changing a battery once or twice a year is better than having to charge it every week (or more frequently).

    • Have another model of Lenovo smart watch and app was English.

    • Damn - bought one on impulse only to see that it doesn't have a screen !

      • That's actually what's so good about this watch. You won't get 1 year charge if it has a "screen/display".

    • The app is in English but there are some strange words used because I think the translations are a tad sketchy. Instead of saying 15th of June, it will say 5month15day.

WatchNerd, To make it easier for everyone, I have uploaded the Android app on Google Drive, you might want to update your post to include this:

Not a huuuge fan of a random Google drive .apk…nothing on the play store?

      • +2

        its spelt "yuuuuge"

http://www.lenovomm.com/appdown/21777159-2 is the direct link to a genuine Lenovo site confirmed here by an official on Lenovo forums to be a genuine Lenovo site

My antivirus scanned and said it was safe.

        • +1

That only means that it doesn't contain any of the known virus patterns. This app will need permissions to lots of stuff on your phone, so you'd like to know that it comes from the manufacturer.

That said, Lenovo have a horrible track record of including malware in their products, so I'm not sure how much more trustworthy a manufacturer link is over a random GDrive link.

    • People who are getting overly concerned over this "random" Google Drive link can feel free to go over to Lenovo CN website and download their App Store (again, an apk), provide permissions to that App store and use that to download the actual apk. For people who can't be bothered might just want to use the Google Drive link that I posted.

    • the apk seems to download fine but when I run it I get the error "there was a problem while parsing the package". What is going wrong?

  • Code doesn't seem to be working for me.

Sapphire Crystal at such a low price makes this an unprecedented bargain.

    • +1

Sapphire crystal faces can be bought individually for only a few dollars. The fact that many $100+ watches don't have them just shows they are price gouging.

  • +3

Not to start the RRP argument from last post, but does it really retail for $71 and on sale for ~$20?

    • Chinese RRPs are a trick many people fall for.

    • RRP is USD$20

Finally, english user manual available here

The one I got from other deal came with chinese user manual.

    • Does the caseback appear to come off easily for battery replacement?

      • This would be good to know. I've had a quick look at the foreign-language reviews on YouTube, it's not something that anyone has tried yet. A market opportunity for someone on YouTube!

      • +2

        Here watch 9 backside

There is little bump marked in red, probably from there we can pull up the case? I'm no expert so maybe you can explain more.

Also if you can recommend any watch tools to buy (e.g. from ebay) and a Tan/brown color leather strap for this watch? this silicon strap looks like a dust catcher as you can see in the pic.

Dude, it is painful as hell :(
Mine came yesterday (ordered on Apr 27) and they didn't work when I opened the box — spent some time trying to figure out what's the problem (english manuals I saw before say that you need to "power on" or "boot" them which was my only hope that I'm doing something wrong and watch is just still switched off). Nah, finally when I lost all hope, decided to check the battery. Spent maybe 5-10 minutes, partially destroyed case (which is fine, as it's back side anyway), but finally opened the caseback. Replaced the battery and voilà! Hell, hell, hell, the box has only one date and it says 2018-04-24 (manufacture date, what else?) so I have no idea why battery was dead (and after some googling looks like I'm the only one with such issue) :( Btw, to close the caseback you will spend another big chunk of time, this time trying to not smash glass.

http://cs5-3.4pda.to/12881604/20180515_154000.jpg - photo of my watch and original battery + damage I did

Damn, folks, I expect a lot pain in about 9-12 months when you decide it's time to change the battery. Your watch repair master will be either much better with his tools than I was or will hate you and your watch :)

        • +1

You are the first one I've heard who got watch with dead battery- interesting.

On the positive side, now you better understand how to open this watch - maybe help all Ozbargainers in 9-12 months time ;)

        • @sigma: oh, sorry, most important thing I forgot to mention: do not use box cutters or any other utility knifes — they are hard but brittle, so most probably you will just leave a dent on knife. I ended up in using thin sharp screwdriver made of some more or less good material, which was still destroyed after I used it.

        • Wow you really gave that watch a hiding.

        • +2

@CheapCharlie: yeah, seriously, I went through all five stages: denial>denial>denial>anger>bargaining>depression? nah, this one I skipped>acceptance, the journey many yet to see :) and good thing is I never seen these marks after I finished

        • You need a watch knife tool thing to open it https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Watch-Opener-Knife-Press-Back-Co…

And then a watch press thingymajiggy to close it https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/20Pcs-Watch-Back-Press-Fitting-R…

The tools should make the process easier and will reduce the chance of damaging the case.

        • +3

@Poseidon: I am a bit concerned that your Watch-opener knife is being used to prise off a screw back. Rather than a press, maybe a miniature MIG welder?

        • @terrys: lol:) you're right. That is a screw back on the photo.

        • @Poseidon: It might be like those Rolexen I prefer - the cheaper lighter ones where the back just pops off so you can replace the battery…

  • Already got black, should I buy white as well… think… think… yes… no… yes…!!!

    • There is no white

      • +1

For white you can still get them from JoyBuy for about AU$36.

I have one from last deal, looks good quality but was almost impossible to pair with ios as button in app was not able to be pressed to finish pairing. Finally figured a workaround only to find it put me back into setup later that day. Now it won’t pair at all. Have contacted for refund.

  • +1

    Thanks Op got one.

  • can't pay with credit card? only have paypal express option

    • +8

Professionals would never do that anyway. Best to use PayPal when buying from China.

      • I don't trust Paypal any more than a random processor. They used to provide protection, but now that they're the industry standard, they don't care.

        • +1

I would 100% certainly never give my credit card details to a overseas store.

Did this just once before and then days of phone calls to get my $20,000 back that "someone" spent on camera gear in EU.

PayPal may suck, but it's far safer than throwing CC details around the web.

        • @iDroid: thanks everyone

    • You can use your credit card through paypal…

  • I got one in last deal and struggling to set time using the Chinese apps. Can anyone help me in downloading English app?

  • Can someone tell me how long the battery lasts before charging it again.

    • The above linked reviews indicate 9-12 months, with a replacable battery, rather than a rechargeable one.

    • +1

      It's a CRC 2036, not a chargeable one.

      • Isn't it CR2032, as per olderman post above?

        • Ooops. Still, if you use the press Poseidon linked too…

  • Thanks OP, can't resist, bought one, cheers

  • Can't find any information on the ease of battery replacement or whether waterproofing capability is lost when diy. Can anyone who's got one comment?

    • I don't own one but this watch should be considered as “Splash-Proof” only. Up to 50m you could probably put it underwater for short periods but shouldn't swim with it - the action of swimming increases the water pressure on a watch.

  • +1

The tech-boom review was an entertaining read :-P I'm not sure restricting it to only black or white buyers is a good strategy for a Chinese brand tho…

  • Dammit. Bought one…

    • Yeah I bought one as well. I'm a sucker for cheap sapphire

  • +1

Thanks OP got two. Great as gifts.
Coupon seems to be one per account.

  • Thanks OP.

I got one but would love to grab two if the white one is available.

  • Opps, bought one. How does this compare to other cheap smart watches?

  • Can this be called a smartwatch? Or is it just a normal watch with some basic fitness tracking function?

    • So just a normal watch and vibrate notification.

  • The MiFit app is very good with a lot of data, I will miss it! The Lenovo app looks pretty scant in comparison.

    • agree, I have Amazfit Bip for $70, can change watch face, actual heart beat sensor, application is good,
but I have bought this one as well,

  • Could someone help me with the App name that connects to this watch, i am keen to buy but just worried whether the app is in English or Chinese?

Do i need to leave my Bluetooth on phone all the time to get this watch working or can i turn on & off anytime?

Please your advise would be much appreciated.

it is copy and paste from OzBargain member:

I have received quite a few questions regarding Lenovo Watch 9, so I will share some common answers

The website for the side-loaded android app is here: http://3g.lenovomm.com/redsea/com.pmpd.dmap.lenovo?ch=17071

You have to be careful to not click the big green button but the button as shown in this image: https://imgur.com/tvSSEDE

It should download as an English app named Lenovo Watch as shown in this gallery: https://imgur.com/a/E2alTPt

Battery life is around 9-12 months on a CR2032, replaceable but not rechargeable battery unless you get the rechargeable variant

To adjust the time using the calibration in the app, you are to set the current time seen on the watch, and not the current time in your location. The app will then auto set the time based on phone time. (Thanks Mttogo96 for this)

I got one of these from the last deal on joybuy coz it looked really nice. HONEST OPINION, The pictures make it seem A LOT better than the actual product. I find the dials in it looks kinda cheap on the actual product. It vibrates when u set alarm time, vibrates on notification. The notification apps are limited to QQ, Wechat, Weibo, Skype, Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp, Line, Text message + phone calls. Really wanted E-mail notifications but it doesnt seem to have this function. I found the luminous dials to be quite dim at night as well. It only has a pedometer so tracks ur steps only and a sleep tracking thing too. Wouldve been nice if there was a heart rate sensor thing though. All in all its just a cheap budget smart watch. At this price its alright but not AMAZING. App is in English but was annoying to download at first as its not on the play store.

  • Does anyone else find the steps are a bit inaccurate? Like under reporting? Bought one for my partner and got him to wear a fitbit at the same time, and the Lenovo steps were half that of the Fitbit's.

  • Back in stock.

  • Coupon invalid for me

    • +1

Please ensure you are logged in as a user and then use the code.

  • How many time does it vibrate when a notification comes in? I have a smartwatch that vibrates 4 times everytime there's a notification, which is too much for me. I'm expecting it to vibrate just once. Also, does it work with other apps' notifications other than default ones (facebook, twitter etc as shown in the second youtube video above)? Thanks

    • Yeah it vibrates once or twice when you get a notification but with a call it vibrates consistently as you would expect. The notifications however are currently limited to facebook and various other popular chinese social media apps. It's a shame you can't set custom notifications.

  • Bought one will do a review once I get it and again after I've used it for a month.

  • Thanks. Bought one.

  • Site seems to be down? Or just for me (however I tried few IPs)?

  • is the watch still out of stock ? was looking forward to grab one :L

  • One of the worst smart watches I ever have (5th so far)

    1. stops at any time
    2. difficult to synch (you must login to app)
    3. accidental double press on button cause a mobile start alerting

You would expect from hand watch a reliable device, which can tell you at least correct time. This watches cannot do it.

Perhaps it is worth $10, but not $30, and definitely not $50

  • My order is not here yet. Still waiting.

    • any luck?
Its on sale again, not worth it if it never turns up

      • No, got a PayPal dispute waiting for seller to respond. I might do a credit card charge back.

  • +1

Bought one, doesn’t sync time (i have logged in), contacted customer service, they repeatedly sent me user manual, and would not offer replacement or return. Now the watch sitting in the box as it’s useless for a watch that doesn’t tell correct time. I wouldn’t buy for them ever again.

  • Only got my refund through PayPal dispute, don't buy from this mob. The item was never shipped, only a bogus tracking number provided that didn't exist.
They claimed it will take up to 75 days lol
