TPG ADSL2+ $49.99 200GB Plan Updated - No Peak/Off Peak

441

Not sure how long it has been like this but I just noticed that the $49.99 200GB plan has been updated so that it's no longer split into peak/off peak.

It used to be (100GB+100GB) but it is now just a single 200GB monthly usage quota.

Considering I hardly ever use off peak, this doubles my usage. I'm sure it's the same with others. The last post regarding this particular plan was for the upgrade in the usage quota (back in September) so I thought I'd just post this seeing as it hasn't already been posted.

As you allude to, this deal isn't new. Just keep in mind that this plan includes uploads.

Yer not the best plan for the P2P users out there.

      • coupled with that $5 p/m unlimited usenet subscription this is fine for me ;)

        • Who are you using at $5 p/m. I pay $10 for Astraweb.

    • Correct but it has included uploads for the past few upgrades/updates now. Mainly posted this for those already on the plan who would know it includes uploads.

Yeah it changed to this current form in October 2010, this "deal" is so last year :-)

  • can the people on an existing contract for the same plan upgrade to this plan without renewing the contract?

  • This was mentioned a while back and I promptly changed my plan, if only they'd stop counting the uploads like the previous plan…… can't have it all.

    • try the unlimited plan that works for me.

    • Apparently this plan was updated last month. Though I can't see where it was mentioned on ozbargain, because otherwise I would have updated straight away too.

  • This has the upload counted.
Missed the 49.99 150GB no upload count plan, so I'm still on ADSL2+/100GB-2, will upgrade to 59.99 unlimited soon.

    • Best it got was 90+90 not including uploads.

Wish they would offer all plans to everyone. Can't get the Unlimited plan at my exchange :(

  • Had this one for 3 months and it's doing my family well

If you aren't using all your OffPeak, get yourself a copy of a program called jdownloader. It allows you to cue your downloads and have them automatically scheduled during offpeak times.

Use it for your downloads, leaving your normal peak time for normal internet stuff… but be aware that the Captcha used on most download sites will cause it to fail. Pay $10/mth for a premium account at somewhere like MegaUpload or Rapidshare and that problem goes away.

This is the only way I can possibly use all of my Optus 120GB plan's bandwidth.

    • +1

Sounds like you just arent trying hard enough!

      • LOL yeah, I guess so - my life keeps getting in the way of my downloading :-(

Using a download manager (no matter which one) is a much easier way.

PS: the Optus plan I'm on is 50 peak and 70 offpeak (midnight to noon). Can't sit up all night, and gotta go to work in the mornings.

        • 1 word, scheduler. utorrent has one built in, I think most do.

    • Someone showed us a (free) program, MiPony, which guesses Captcha's… often correctly. YMMV.

Great deal… but does not include the off-net plans (ie - where they do not have their own dslams in the exchange)

Oh - and better than paying something like $10 for rapidshare per month - get a newsgroup account. I beleive thundernews was $5 (US) pm on here recently…

Then use flashget or altbinz for scheduling…

How to download so many open source books and non-copyright songs though… :-)

is this really a deal? it is just everyday pricing.

  • I upgraded in December, been happy ever since!

    I would rather iinet 100/100 for 49.95.

    IMO iinet > tpg YMMV

    • +3

Its $79.95 for that iinet plan unless you actually want their default option of an additional $30/month phone plan bundle

  • Add an extra $10 for unlimited, makes things easier if you download a lot

  • Do I need to have a home phone line to get ADSL2? I don't use home phone at all.

    • Nah you can get 'naked' ADSL2 without phone line rental and yes, TPG do provide this service.

      • Thanks Proringz. But can I get this exact plan at this price as 'naked'? Or are there special 'naked
        plans?

        • There are separate naked plans at a $10 premium.

        • Just get the TPG $30 homeline + $29.95 unlimited ADSL 2+

  • Yeah I was checking the TPG website about a month ago and realised the plan was changed to this. Upgraded straight away.

  • Thank god I changed to an off-net plan before they started counting uploads. I'm on the 200GB (100+100GB) and in the past 2 months since I've changed I've downloaded 191GB and uploaded 141GB in torrents alone!

    • how you do that? I'm with iinet and don't have any problems with torrents but a friend in sydney with TPG can't download anything because he gets the email from those companies we know.

      • +3

This is not the forum for that sort of thing, but, sounds like while he is on the peer to PEER network, he isn't BLOCKing bad ips………….

        • Yeah, but even with blocking I got an email from a certain 'torch lady'. It was an Australian film too, which I planned to buy once it came out on disc. Not anymore!

Thanks for bringing this up, I am on the $49.99 plan with Peak/Off Peak 200GB and just found about this. I don't upload much and never downloading on off peak hours so this plan suits me perfectly. Good stuff !!!

  • +1

as others said…this plan has been around since Oct 2010. :)

So yeah, you are 3 months late :P

    • That doesn't really help people like myself. Why didn't you post it 3 months ago then? -_- I would have appreciated it if someone had..

As I said, I only just found out about this since no one had posted it so I'm just spreading the word to the others out there. It's what ozbargainers are meant to do. Better late than never. Whenever this particular bundles sees updates there are always posts for it so I'm surprised no one posted it, considering how many of you have known it's been like this since October..

      • Yeah it was mentioned here (bullet 3) http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/32990 when TPG change something, they usually tweak all plans.

Its always been the $49 plan, the specs change a bit, not really a bargain though, normal price.

This is Ozbargain, not Oznormaleverydayprice :-)

  • what is the right way to upgrade to this plan, as I am on (200GB) with peak/off peak ?
    Cheers

Log into your tpg account, under ADSL Account Management choose Change Your Plan, follow the steps.

You get 1 change a month and the last few times I did it: "does not cost you if the monthly fee is the same or higher. Does not restart contract."

      • cool, Thank you
        Done

  • Fingers crossed Naked!!

    …doh

  • thanks!! just upgraded mine from old $49 plan 130gb to this one.

  • Had this for a couple of months now =]

  • +1

There is no reason to get "naked" internet.

Check out the TPG with Phone Line deals, much better value and you get a free phone line to call 000 on and even make regular calls if you aren't using voip.

  • Yeah pity I joined before they released the awesome plans and they don't support transfer between the two.

  • Thanks for the info!

I just checked my 20GB/20GB Naked plan and it is now: Naked ADSL2+/40GB

    woo hoo :))

  • NBN anyone? =P
