Still no nbn in my area. Thanks Malcom.

      • +57

The Rudd NBN was at least worth waiting for.

        • +6

          hahahahahaha

        • +30

5G will make even that obsolete…

          nothing makes light obsolete.

        • +14

@jv:And what pray-tell do you think the 5G network with required microcells for high bandwidth delivery will be using for backhaul …

        • @jv:

Until some random shed burns in some random place in Australia then the whole network will go down. No thanks.

        • +22

          @R4:
I know you’re trolling, but for anyone too forgetful, know that Rudd didn’t want to build NBN. Newly elected Labor government tendered for commercial submissions and all replies (including Telstra’s) were untenable.
NBN was Labor’s FU to Telstra, asbestos in pits was Telstra’s FU to Labor and MTM was Liberal’s most audacious ever FU to Australians.

        • +10

          @jv:

5G is great when you're testing it in a lab with no interference and congestion. In the real world it will suffer like all wireless when it's actually used.

The current NBN FTTP hardware could deliver 1gbit services right now, and if upgraded to NG-PON2, 10gbit services - and could actually deliver that consistently in the real world.

        • +2

@R4: And then Malcolm kept the shitty business model and threw out the only good parts.

        • @AlexF:

          nothing makes light obsolete

          Tightarse does.

        • +2

          @AlexF: Blackholes.

        • +1

@jv: Yeah No Fibre is faster with lower Ping than any wireless could ever become.

        • +1

          @jv: 5G hahaahha

Just like how 4G would ruin the NBN eh? (profanity) get like 2mbps sometimes.

        • -3

          @ozbargainer88:

          (profanity) get like 2mbps sometimes.

some people get less than that on NBN

        • -2

          @AlexF:

          nothing makes light obsolete.

          light doesn't need a medium…

        • @shiftyphil: Worse than that - Malcolm's changes turned a so-so shitty business model into a huge turd of a business model!

        • +1

@jv: 5G will require billions of dollars in investment to be at it's best. Not going to happen so 5G will be a slight improvement to 4G only

        • @chumlee:

5G will require billions of dollars in investment to be at it's best.

These are private networks though, they don't have to pay NBN Co…

        • +1

@jv: they don't have billions spare as they are too busy undercutting each other on price.

Telstra would need to severly cut it's divided to free up cash & it's unlikely to do this

None want to borrow the funds either. They could do a bond/hybrid raising but the interest rate they would need to offer above the BBSW wouldn't be worth it

        • @chumlee:

          they don't have billions spare

some do… some have more than the government…

as they are too busy undercutting each other on price.

That's the point of owning your own network

        • +4

          @jv:

Do you really think 5G will be better? You must be living under a rock. If they can't even get 2G/3G/4G working indoors in CBD. 5G is all hype.

        • -3

          @MrEMC:

Do you really think 5G will be better?

          It might be…

You must be living under a rock.

There are none so blind as those who will not see.

        • @R4:

Herp derp, government can't do anything…except build the original copper network, the electricity networks, most of the power stations, almost all of our roads.

          You are ridiculously uninformed.

      • +23

What? Labors NBN was FTTP to all houses, not this FTTN,FTTC,HFC,FF(insertwtfletterhere) crap!

        Malcolm is a shitc***

        • +6

          Malcolm is a shitcrab?

        • @Divitini: I was thinking cake?

        • @R4: me too.. haha

        • -2

          @Divitini:

          Malcolm is a shitcrab?

That maybe true, but Bill Shorten is the bacteria on the shitcrab

  • I think 1st month free for Aussie broadband was standard?

    • +1

i think it used to be the default but they stopped it in around nov last year (from memory)

      • +1

Was able to get a month free after signing up in april

    • +12

do "most places" have the same price with no yearly or 24 month contract? it's $10 more per month but aussie has typical evening speed of 90mbps, TPG @ 78mbps.

but aussie have a better network and they dont oversubscribe which is good for those already on it, bad for those who want to get on it.

    • +40

Seriously, please stay with TPG and keep our Aussie Broadband pipes clear :-).

  • +1

Their referral program gets you a free month and a free month for the referrer

    • +10

Hi hybridx only the referrer receives a free month with this program - cheers

      • -5

We like to see prices. Bargains have prices.

      • +3

FYI this change is putting me off referring people - I feel like a jerk when I say "hey use my code, you get nothing and I get a freebie"!

  • +1

Still at max congestion so they wont take more subscribers in my area. :/

    • +14

They stop sell when the peak use is 80% of their poi available bandwidth so existing users don't experience slowdowns. Sucks to have to wait but massive benefit to customers.

  • Ends tonight? ah well

    • +1

Hi Iggemo, that's correct this offer is only available until midnight tonight - cheers ABB

      • +1

Hi Rep, my buddy is still on TPG adsl2+ , but his address is NBN ready (HFC) - received notice from TPG/NBN to upgrade.

Your site still says no NBN on his address and only can sign up for adsl2+. Mind to advise how to put an order on NBN instead ?

        • Aren't you able to sign up before it's "ready" and then you get billed?

        • Hi Phunkydude, if your buddy is having issues get him to give our sales team a call on 1300 880 905 and they'll be able to look into it and can apply the code for him if he's within a reasonable presale period (up 3 months before NBN is available).
          Cheers, Alex

  • +22

Can vouch for their customer service and consistency of speed throughout the day and night, no slowdowns at all in the evening.

    • +11

Came here to say this. The fact I'm bothering to log in just to comment about how good they are (have been with them since day 1 of NBN for me) should say it all.

They provide exactly what they say they will deliver and now that they have their own POIs their service is nearly flawless.

    • +7

Me too. I moved from a cheapo provider and the difference is night and day.

      • +1

which cheapo one, what were the issues there?

    • +2

      +1

    • +4

Been with them for a while. Best service provider. Not cheap but worth the money IMO.

Great customer service. Never had issues with speed(Or anything else for that matter). Always getting 47-48 speed on 50/20 plan.

      +1

  • -2

What is the best 12/1 internet for NBN FTTN. Bonus points if it has a cheap phone bundle for local and international (mainly India and some some Norway).

  • I just sign up online couple days ago, do i qualify for free first month????

    • Hi hugo, as per above this offer is not available to retrospective orders - cheers, ABB

      • Modbury (5MOD) have 250/100 available yet?

        • +3

Not just yet, sorry abuch47 - cheers, ABB

        • +1

@Aussiebroadband: 150/100 is available though right? any time frame on 250/100

        • +3

          @abuch47: Yes 150/100 is available, I don't have a timeframe on the 250 though - cheers, ABB

      • +2

Does that include preorders? If not, can I cancel my preorder and signup again?

        • +1

Second this, my area is due to go live within a week or two and have pre-ordered with AussieBB - should have waited!

        • @Soothsayer:
No. I have been on livechat - they said "no" My FTTC for may has been put back till ??? So cancelled my pre-order.
They didn't even try to retain me.

        • +1

I was told if I cancel the current preorder I would need to wait 30 days to reapply. Poor form imo.

        • @craigoss:

Same. Definitely leaves a bad taste in the mouth. Will probably jump ship when telecube has a similar plan available.

      • So basically it is just a one day special….or more like a half day special

    • On the same page, signed up 3 days ago, happy with the service, but would love some love from Aussie Broadband.
      Review:
Was with TPG 100/40 now with Aussie 50/20, better experience than TPG, speed wise, modem is the same.

    • +2

Sigh. Just signed up last night at 23:30 AEST! Stop-sell was due to end on the 31st. Decided to check yesterday and saw that it had ended early on the 26th. Was kicking myself for not having checked sooner. Now I'm kicking myself for not having waited one more day. I'm just sore all over with all that kicking ;-)

    • Would have thought there was a 10 day cooling off period, like as with any over the phone or online contract. Well, I would check that option out.

  • -4

my current Belong nbn plan is an unlimited data, month by month plan and speed boosted. all for $75.00 per month.

    • +8

      Lol Belong are crap…

      • They Belong in a museum!

    • Had Belong month to month standard speed for years without any major issues at all. When there was some slowing I rang and they went through a reset process; no problem, no lagging since. Switched to contract then $60; no complaints. We don't have any need for faster.

FTTP (fibre to the premises; early contract)
      10.7 Mbps right now 8:58pm.

  • +2

I realise that it says above that "this offer cannot be combined with any other offers or promotions" but does that include the referral program? As in, if I refer somebody will we both get a free month?

    • Serious question?!

  • I'm moving into a place that doesnt have NBN so if i got this deal would the internet just be stuck at copper speeds or would i not have any internet at all? And do these guys have ADSL deals i didnt see any on their site.

    • +1

Hi TripleCheesePizza, this offer is only available for nbn - cheers, ABB

  • I signed up earlier in the month so missed out on this :(((((~~

  • -3

I'm not sure why the upvotes, prices seem to be above market.

    NBN50/500GB - $75

Most major players offer $69 for the same speed and unlimited data.

    • +5

Because all other providers have either contracts, inferior speed or inferior customer service. With Aussie Broadband, you're paying for the best. If you think prices are too high, then simply don't join :)

    • +6

Quality of the service perhaps? I'm with iinet and they start to get unusable on peak time, content drop outs. There always blame on wiring in the new build. Funny thing is, its only occur in peak time.

      • +3

I'm with iinet and they start to get unusable on peak

Ditto for MyRepublic. Full speed during the day (10MB/s) at night 300kb/s.

Im surprised to hear iinet is so congested.

      • +1

Same for Mungi. Vocus layer 3. FTTN getting 43mbps sync (thanks Turnbull) slowed down to 500kb between 6-9pm. After this is comes back to full speed.

Aussie BB I get full speeds 24/7. Highly recommend.

    • +4

Because you get what you pay for.

Source: ABB customer on 100/40 FTTP.

  • +1

Although it is free, if I join now for free month, I cannot jump back to Telecube that I currently pay for $45 for 500gb, 25/5 with free voip. Decision decision

    • Hi yht, what speeds are you getting with Telecube? I signed up on 50/20 plan but my speeds are consistently around 25 download and 13 upload. Not very happy so far as only getting half the speed I am paying for….

      • During peak time, download speed about 21, upload 4

        • OK, well I might as well just switch to 25/5 plan and save some money…

        • @billy_bob:

You can't really make speed comparisons without knowing what exchange, what network type (FTTP/FTTN/Cable), etc. For reference, I max out my connection at peak times with Telecube 100/40 FTTP

Especially with FTTN the exact location of your home matters given it's dependent on the quality of copper wiring and distance from the exchange.

        • @scix: I have FTTP and was previously with Exetel on 25/5 plan, and always got the quoted speeds, even at peak evening times.

        • @billy_bob: It is not guarantee though. I just did a speedtest and I only get half of the top speed. Sigh.

    • +1

My telecube speeds were fine but the international streaming sucked even though I was on the 100Mbps plan, now I pay for 25-50Mbps with ABB and it gives better results.
Telecube would have a dropout every week whether it's a few minutes or days a month, but ABB I've had 1 dropout in 2 months for an upgrade.

The custom plan sliders are cool too, you can pick the lowest GB plan… And if you run out just keep adding 50gb for $1-2 and it's instant too.

Think the cheapest plan is $50 though… So it depends on your circumstances and needs.

    • Well, Telecube just sent me an email announcing that they are changing their price structure and will basically be forcing me to either pay the new price or force me to change to the lower speed tier to maintain the current price…. Definitely moving away from Telecube 100/40 plan. I hardly got the speed more that 21mbps on an average!
