ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum: 65,000 Qantas Points with $2,500 of Purchases, No Annual Fee (1st Year)

280

This is a deal for the ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum credit card. Just wanted to post this as the platinum has a lower income requirement than the ANZ Black card, but still has decent bonus points:

  • 65,000 bonus Qantas points when you spend $2,500 on eligible purchases in the first 3 months
  • $0 annual fee for the first year, $295 per year after

Have also linked to other deals related to the other ANZ credit cards with bonus rewards points and $0 credit card fee for the first year:
* ANZ Rewards Black card (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/332333) marked expired but still valid on the website
* ANZ Frequent Flyer Black card (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/371174) marked expired but still valid on the website
* ANZ Rewards Platinum card which offers 65,000 reward points and $0 fee for first year: https://www.anz.com.au/personal/credit-cards/rewards/platinu…

Basic requirements for it:
- Be 18 years of age or over
- Have a good credit rating
- Be a permanent Australian resident, earning a minimum annual income of $35,000
- Be a non-Australian permanent resident with more than 9 months remaining on your Visa, earning a minimum income annual income of $35,000
- Ensure if applying for an offer, you don’t currently hold and haven’t opened or closed an ANZ Frequent Flyer Black, ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum, ANZ - - Frequent Flyer Gold or an ANZ Frequent Flyer credit card in the last 12 months and meet all other offer eligibility criteria

TIPS:
Seems like you can also apply and be eligible for both the ANZ Rewards credit cards bonuses based on the last point.
Beware your credit score will drop, and don't spend more than you can pay back without incurring interest.
Also, take note of the 12 month period when you have taken up these credit cards (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/381968)

Did anyone get the points from their last deal? I believe it's almost 3 months now

    • Did you cancel the card before you got them?

Terms and conditions state: Points will be credited to your Qantas account within three months of the eligible spend criteria being met. If you transfer or cancel your new ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum credit card account before the introductory bonus Qantas Points are processed to your account, you may become ineligible for these bonus Qantas Points.

      username doesn’t check out

      • Obviously just mad they're funding the competition

Without getting off-topic, the "cartel conduct" ANZ is being accused of has nothing to do with ANZ's consumer products (or any of its products really - other than its own securities).

Also doesnt change the fact that this is a good offer.

  • FYI you can qualify for the black card with a salary under their minimum requirement of 75k

    • How do you go about that? Just the normal application process?

      • Have some actual savings. $20k min probably

    • I also would like to know. Is this a household income requirement similar to American Express cards?

  • 65k point = $300 coles gift cards ( approximately)

  • I am not sure If i am a tight arse but with deals like this, I am never sure what I can spend the 2.5K on. What do most people pay to cover that cost?

A lot of people have mentioned fully-refundable business class flights, but I'm unsure about that one myself as I've never done it. I guess it all depends on the circumstances of your household, but another popular one is Gift Cards for supermarket or wherever you were going to shop anyway you just pay in advance, or insurance premiums, car registrations annually, house rates, etc…. Unfortunately I've never been short of bills to pay, and thats not a good thing. But it depends on how much you want the points and how much the points are worth to you.

      • Oh yeah, thats a smart idea! Pay for flights 6 months away and then cancel after the 3 month period to get a full refund? I guess these offers come and go so might as well wait till they come around

I think most the population have outgoing costs of more than 2.5k in 3 months. If your living for less than $834 a month then I think you've got a really high quality problem, and you need not worry about FF points.

However, if you want some help I put the following under my CC to quickly rack up charges:

        Google store
        Opal
        Electricity
        Gas
        water
        Netflix
        Soundcloud
        Telstra
        Paypal
        Uber

        • Rates
          Insurance
          Rego
          Some big ones there…

        • @Gilby15:
The above is the auto direct-debit setup I use. Surely if your rego or some other large yearly expense comes up you should automatically grab for your CC. Otherwise I could list out 20 other incidental costs like car service, parking fines, tax return (if you owe money), etc that fall into the same category.

        • Telstra are sometimes processed differently and may not count.

PayPal payments depend on who you're paying (recipient still had to be eligible points purchase, even when through PayPal)

Bills typically charge card surcharges. If they don't, go for it..

Thanks for the list, I think you might be right, roughly 210$ a week equates to 2.5K over 3 months. I guess I never really broke it down like that. I just always thought of it has one big sum.

          @Kill Joy:

The tax return is actually a good idea, I am sure i have to pay back decent money for working two jobs and claiming them both as first jobs….

          @Legend279:

Glad to help. I usually just put everything I spend on the new CC card and dont think about it - I easily (but not proudly) would double the amount required.

Luckily for my last card with 90k points I had a 3.5 week US trip planned so booked everything using the new card - hit the limit in my first day ha.

          @Kill Joy:
You can pay additional amounts into rates and utilities and they will use it to defray future charges. Perhaps check first but I have done this before unintentionally.

That link does not have 'no annual fee'.
When I go to it I get:
    65,000 bonus Qantas Points
and $150 back to your new ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum
When you make one eligible purchase in the first 3 months.

Later on the page it has:
    Total annual fee
    $295

    Deal changed?

    • Can confirm, deal has changed. Called them up just now, and this "new" deal was enforced this morning.

      • Yep $295 annual fee now.

        • hmm not so attractive anymore, sell the points less annual fee = $355 profit something like that…

  • note theres no minimum spend anymore though to obtain the sign up points tho, you just need to make the one eligible purchase!
