Just a word of warning for prospective buyers. I'm not sure what the failure rate is but mine was completely DOA.
No response from Zapalstyle of course.

    • +4

Hi, what can I help you?

      • +2

Responding to support ticket: RVA-98287 (which has proof of fault) for order # 800008945 would be a start.
Given it was DOA, I'm happy to accept a replacement item to be sent out, or a refund.

        • +4

OK, I will pass on this to our customer service right now and please let me know if you need any help of the case. Thanks a lot for your support on Zapalstyle.

        • +24

@zapals: Why couldn't you simply help him at the start? If my product is DOA, will I have to make a comment on a related Ozbargain post to get things sorted?

        • +3

@zapals: Update: My support ticket magically got answered within minutes of this comment after sitting idle for days. They've promised a refund within 7 business days.

Will update you to see if this actually happens.

A bit sad, that we have to resort to this to get some support. Of course Zapalstyle isn't the only one, I'm sure Joybuy, DD4 would probably be similar.

        • @zapals:

hi zapal… any chance on reinstating the coupon?

        • @Broden: Hi Broden, I can help if I see the comment under the Zapals post.

        • @plasmapuff: Glad to hear that and thanks a lot for your support.

        • @plasmapuff:

Just got the refund today :) Thanks @zapls rep.

      • While your responding I emailed regarding my faulty on arrival charge stand Zapals: Order # 100838605 but couldn't get a response. A working replacement would be great.

        • Completely agree that getting anything back from Zapal is incredibly difficult. I had a wireless charger not only dead on arrival but wires hanging out. Talk about safety issues. I provided what they needed and still didn't get my money back. Bunch of fraudsters.

        • +2

Sounds like to avoid this seller

        • I will help you, please do not worry.

        • @carleast: Could you pleae give me your order number?

        • @zapals: guess the best bet is to get your customer service staff to do better in their job, rather than keep promoting but then got complain via a promotion link, wouldnt that be ashamed to read by other interested buyer?

Sorry for the tangent. If you have any pull over at Zapal.com i would love a deal on the Yeelight 10w smart light - YLDP06YL

        • Just message the rep.

I'll say its worth it. Had mine for about 6 months using it everyday. Very handy to have.

  • +15

Bloody hell, just bought one for 12. Must buy another one to balance it out (ozb logic)

    • +2

      That makes sense to me.

  • +3

Great price on these Askhole, This may be the cheapest price we have seen since January.

I've been using 2 of these for nearly 6 months and have had no problems with them at all.

    • +1

      Cheers mate :)

    • +1

Do you need the mi app (or any other app) for this to work ?

      • +1

Yes, you need the MI Home app. You can't configure it with your browser.

        • Thank you

    • +2

does the data get sent back to china?

  • -1

    hi,

At Checkout it says "Your credit card will be charged for $5.79" . I am not sure what does that mean.

    • +1

it means it will be charged USD 5.79 (See title)

      • Thanks Got it.

  • Bought One… Happy Me.

  • How does it work exactly? Could I use it on my uni network to boost my pcs internet conenction?

    • +1

As far as I can tell, it won't work on WPA2-Enterpise (which is username and password for your WiFi), it will only work on WPA2 Personal (which is just a password). So it may or may not work on your uni network depending on the authentication method.

    • Short answer. Probably not the way you're thinking of using it.
It's more like a repeater than antenna if that's what you mean.

  • I bought mine from previous deal about a month ago. Still waiting on delivery 😩

    • How long does it take to get delivered in Melbourne Australia?

    • Me too.

    • me three.

  • +1

Anyone got it working with a Telstra Max gateway router?

  • I am still waiting for my order. It has been5 weeks

  • Tech guru pls help: Do you have to join the repeaters network or does it simply boost signal in the area it's powered? I have a wireless sound system like Sonos (Audio Pro Addon) and it has signal issues (all of 10 metres from the router but what can you do.) If I have to join a different network with the affected speaker I'm concerned it won't communicate with the other speakers.

    • +3

WiFi repeaters like these are usually transparent to the end device, so the same SSID (Wireless Network Name) is broadcast as your home WiFi. Your Sonos should happily float between the two devices depending on which one it can see has the stronger signal and it will be able to talk to other devices in your network.

      • +1

        Nice. Thanks!

      • +4

You have a choice with these. They can be configured as bremo states they can also be configured with a separate ssid. There is a slide button in the mihome app.

  • +1

Thanks been waiting to buy one of these without thinking too much :)

  • just received my first one of these… it works great once its all paired up! it has improved my wifi from 5mbps to 25mbps in th efar reaches of the house…

    • does it create a new separate wifi network?

      • Yes it does create a separate Wifi Network, you can make a single wifi network as well. It asks whether you want it or not, otherwise it just creates a new one with adding "plus" at the end of your current network name

        • does the data get sent back to china?

Anyone got theirs from the last deal yet?

    • Yes, I got mine last week.

      • Thanks for letting me know. I'm still waiting for mine.

        • I just got it yesterday

  • Can this be configured using my phone? It'll be powered using a USB charger. Thanks

    • yeah you download the Mi Home app….

  • +1

Bought 2 just because. Amazing find BA!

  • It's been like 2 months since I've ordered mine. If they come and work, great but a word of caution regarding shipping time.

    • Shouldn't have taken that long. A few of us received ours within 3-4 weeks if you check the previous deal.

      • That sucks, I'll contact them because I'm still waiting.

  • When I insert mine it keeps flashing amber, does not mean its not working (I got NFI with this stuff, FWIW I have a DLINK router supplied by skymesh on NBN)

Also mine recently arrived from what I presume is the last OzB deal :)

    • Flashing yellow means it's not set up. You've got to configure it with the mi home app by entering your wifi info. The light changes to solid blue.

      • Thanks mate I had read in the product description it was pnp (states to plug in usb turns yellow to solid blue the reinsert into another usb slot) obviously thats only with certain routers?

        • +2

I think that is talking about if you own a Xiao mi router, you can simply plug the repeater into it and it will automatically configure itself. Then you can plug the repeater into another USB port at a weak location. For non Xiao mi routers you have to manually set it up with the app

    • -1

"When I insert mine it keeps flashing amber" Lolz… OMG

    • I found it worked when i set the location to china in the xiaomi app.

Settings looked different for some reason if you choose the china location.

  • Can you use the same SSID on two of them?

    • You will be able to. I find it easiest to just set it to use the same SSID as your router.

      • +1

        Thanks!

  • Thanks, bought one

  • Has the coupon expired?

    • Yes. Has expired.

      • Noooooooooooo

    • +1

no. you need to sign in to use the code

  • If I plugged one of these into my laptop, would it increase the speed/range of my laptop hotspot?

    • I think you plug it into any other usb ports
and connect your laptop to it..

It helps if your range is slow, then this is a just a repeater.

If you got a spare wifi router, you can also create an access point, which I think would be much more stronger signal.

      • I was just curious about this use case:
"Wide Connectivity : The Xiaomi Mi Wi-Fi Amplifier 2 is proud of its connectivity to any device that has USB port, which means a possibility to hitch up the amplifier to different devices of different-brand routers…"

I know that paragraph mentions a few device types, as, like you said, you just need to connect it to any other usb ports, but connecting it to the usb port of a router makes no sense to me, since you'd just use the router itself as a repeater. Anyway, it just made me wonder if, in that use case it would amplify the signal of a router that it was connected to. Like adding an extra antenna to a router through the usb port.

        • go google

          repeater and wireless access point

          totally different things.

If you want to have the strongest signal possible
then create an access point with a spare wifi router.

If you switch from old internet nbn
usually there are spare wifi modem routers that can be turned into an access point.

      • No this isn't what it does. It's not an antenna for your wireless NIC

  • +3

Just a word of warning, once they are on your network they provide a backdoor for Xiaomi and anyone they choose to or forced to hand over access to multiple aussie networks. U.S. govt and many organizations wont allow their staff to connect Xiaomi and huawei phones as BYOD.

    • +2

This warning (not only for Xiaomi) can’t be understated. Due to clandestine nature of identity collection, impact is undiscovered until pain is felt. Think first, then click.

    • anyone monitor the data that is going out?

Does it go through mihome and chinese servers?

      They could sniffing/logging our data..

  • +1

Anyone wants a almost brand new one of these for FREE? Pick up in Doncaster VIC

    • Hi Can I have it? I can pick up doncaster.
I cannot send private email because I just joined. I need to wait for 1 day for send private mail.
Please let me know whether it is still available.
      Thanks.

  • I need instructions on how to set up this device PLEASE. I bought this when it was posted here last time and it arrived in 3 weeks time.
    1. Installed Mi homeap on android phone and set up the Mi account. Region i selected is Singapore which is recommended, i didn't see Australia in the options.
    2. Add device and selected my wifi router (which is myrepublic) and entered pw
    3. It says Device connected, message sent to device and connecting to network timedout.

I tried many times, reset the device, but same result. Is this the device is not compatible to my wifi router??

Can anyone faced the same/similar problem? OR Instructions, video link on how to set up is much appreciated.

    • +1

Try changing the region to China.

      • I tried all the regions that listed. The device is not far from my wifi router. Actually I plugged into routers USB port. Still no luck.

    • I had the same timeout issue. The light still went blue but my range is not improved.

      • How far away do you have it from your router?

  • I bought one of these previously and got it setup with no issues but I see no improvement in speeds and range in the low range area of my house.

    • How far away, do you have it from your router?

      • Less than 25 feet away with just one wall in between

    • The material and thickness of walls can negatively affect wifi signal. Try placing the extender that has more direct line of sight between the router and weak spot. Better explanation here https://support.zen.co.uk/kb/Knowledgebase/Broadband-What-af…

  • Got one, cheers op! Order 800014715.

  • I'm still waiting for the one I ordered from your last deal!
