does this include tax and how much luggage

    • +1

but this is a good deal regardless just wanted to know

      • +5

Airline prices in Australia must be fully inclusive of taxes, so yes.

Baggage also included, I think 30kg for international.

        • Isn’t it 2x 23kg ?

        • @Eeples:
          For Virgin Yes

        • @Eeples:
          30kg for Qantas

        • +1

          @LoveBargain15:

Beeare. With Virgin you cannot buy extra bags or kg over your 2x 23kg. Anything more is excess baggage. Roughly $190-150 per bag.

        • -1

          @Love a bargain:

Yes 30kg for non-south/North American flights… such as this.

2x23kg for north/South America with qantas.

        • +1

          @Eeples:
we're talking about a specific route here so I only listed what's relevant

  • -1

I think this sale is caused by them having to put the a380 on the route suddenly due to the pilot hours issue.

    • +11

Or due to Virgin Australia launching Sydney to Hong Kong route yesterday? Competition.

      • +1

        maybe both

  • +1

    Thanks for the competition Virgin.

Virgin will probably match this keep an eye out. Virgin is best product on the route.

    • +1

      Cathay may follow too.

      To me, I prefer Cathay.

      Cathay > Virgin > Qantas

      • -3

I prefer Qantas because last time with Cathay no A380.

        • +2

They don’t have A380s in their fleet.

        • @GregRust:

OK, I am not sure about Cathay.

But few years ago with Qantas they have A380 and it is so much better.

        • @superforever:

That’s fair enough. They do have newer A350 series planes in their fleet now. Not sure if they use them on that route currently though.

        • +1

          @GregRust:

Not just yet. Ex SYD it's an A330 in the morning and then 773s for the other flights. The A350 is supposed to be replacing the A330 later in the year. Cathay are capped out on frequencies under the bilateral air services agreement - so the only way they can increase capacity is to swap a smaller aircraft with a later aircraft.

          A350s operate from Melbourne though.

      • +1

Virgin are friendlier than Cathay. Cathay use used to be great before they were sold to Mainlanders. Their workers don't look happy. Y(A)MMV.

      • for curiosity, any particular reason for your preference. I thought Qantas is more spacious, esp business compared to Cathay, But that’s a while back.

  • Never been to HK in Aug but it will be hot and humid I guess? Even Nov was a killer for me…

    • +4

      Did late July last year.

Dripping in sweat everywhere I went.

      Amazing place though.

      • +11

        Nice haiku!

    • -2

look, Townsville is much worse than those Asian cities, in terms of humidity and hot weather all year round.

      • +1

in terms of humidity and hot weather all year round.

You have no idea how it is like during Spring. Water coming out from the wall….

        • Cant be worse than Singapore right? I went there and survived x)

        • +7

@KozieSeller: HK in summer is worse than Singapore. Singapore is humid all year around; HK is less humid most of the year but worse in summer. Humidity can be around 95-98% during summer. As a friend of mine said “breathing becomes like sneezing backwards”

        • Can confirm HK Humidity hits you like a brick wall.

        • @hayne:

Spring changing to summer is the worse compare with summer.

        • @hayne:

Love how people often say massively high humidity when it’s usually closer to 50% or less, but exacerbated by the air temp. Also 100% humidity isn’t uncommon. Just means it’s raining.

      • +7

I can't imagine myself visiting Townsville. I'm one of the rare ones loving Melbourne winter..

        • +6

winter is so much better! maybe because im fat ?

        • @Jonnytheblack: Try Canada's winter then report back.

      • +1

You don't know how hard I will fight to avoid Townsville.

      • Went to townsvillle for Australia Day long weekend this year despite my better judgement that it could be bad

I as amazed at how pleasant it was

It was better than Sydney at the time mid to high 20’s

Yes it was humid but prob because it rained so often during the day which imho what this did was actually keep the temps down so you didn’t get that radiated heat from the street all the ime like we get in Sydney during summer time

OTOH having been through Thailand in August and December it’s always hot and humid

        Hk late April is pleasant

Then you walk into a shopping centre and it's freezing.

  • booked through bestjet?

  • +5

awesome. will book the ticket just so i can buy $4700 worth of stuff and pick up, rather than pay GST.

    • +1

Gerry will love you! make sure you have a large family to share your import duty free limit. I did that when I re-entered the country with my Macbook

  • Will this fare be able to be upgraded to business using points?

    • I would say no.

    • No. Deep discount fare buckets are ineligible for classic upgrade awards.

  • Damn if this was further out would be all over it.

  • +3

    Any Brisbane deals?

  • So many great airfare deals coming out from Sydney and Gold Coast and I love travel, time to consider relocating there ! (That is if I can afford it! :)

  • Is this only until Mid august departure, any in the 2nd half of august?

  • Early Nov in HK is still a bit warm, not cool enough. Better time will be mid Nov to mid Dec, cool but not cold.

    • Qantas has a sale on for November departure and price is good ($679) for direct flight leaving from Brisbane so booked !
Sale ends tonight though so whoever are still pondering better make up their mind soon.

  • +1

that's the lowest price i've ever seen…. from Qantas, great price!! thanks OP
