This old deal seems to be back.

It never left, $0 is the normal price…

    • +2

The old deal was marked expired, so it must have went away sometime early December 2017?

      • Deals expire 45 days after being posted if an expiry date has not been specified. 90 days if it's a freebie. You will see this little note when you post a deal

        • +1

If you examine the old deal I referred to, the dates didn't correspond. What was happening there? Anyway, I think this deal is valid as the old one was marked expired more than 6 months ago.

          • Deal submitted 18/12/2016
          • Deal start 1/12/2016
          • Deal end 31/12/2016
          • Actual expiry 2/12/2017
        • +1

@tightarse: Thanks for that TA. I did search for dups before I spent my time composing a deal. I failed to find this one because it lacked the keywords "prepaid" and "starter". I am also curious as to why the system didn't auto-expire that deal which was submitted on 28/7/2017.

Still I reckon this deal is okay as the last recent deal was submitted more than 6 months ago (unless there is another one hiding).

@alvian: All good. The one I linked to was marked as ‘long expiry’ by the reps, but seems they’ve now expired it. I suggest you ask the mods the mark yours as ‘long expiry’ so it remains active beyond the 90 days :)

  • Nice one. Thanks OP

  • Thanks OP.

  • grabbed and thx op

  • Sometimes concert tickets have early pre sale if you have 'Telstra Thanks'(https://www.telstra.com.au/thanks/music).

Does this free sim allow me to use this service? (without having to spend anything)

    Thanks

    • Yes, once sim is activated

  • +1

Many Wan….nah I wont go there.

  • Get any free Telstra Air with this?

    • No if you activate without any payment

  • Can this sim used as a data share sim? I already have a hellstra post paid account. It would be cool if I can add this pre pay sim to my account and use as a data share sim. Hellstra charge $5 per month for data share sim.

    • +2

No, has to be a Post-paid service on the same billing account.

  • Thanks mate

What kind of courier do they use? Last time it was pretty pathetic experience when they asked for ID and they even took a picture of it to verify when it was free damn sim. They even called/email me regarding order and that i must sign for courier…

    • +1

Telstra use Startrack/Australia Post… In my experiences, unless it is for an expensive item, the local courier for my area just leaves it in a safe place for me and doesn't ask for a signature OR ID.

      • +1

Mine has been delivered next day with startrack and have had to sign both times I've received them.

    • Had this happening with Telstra SIMs all the time.

  • +5

Also good if you need $12.50 movie tickets from telstra thanks and have ported out.

  • Can I activate this so that I can receive calls and SMS without loading credit?

    • +2

Yes, I did it and the SIM will receive calls & SMS. However, without credit ($) to sustain them, the SIM and the mobile number will die in xx months.

xx = 3, 6 or 12 depending on your Pre-Paid offer. Telstra never spell out which offer has which expiry period.

      • I’m trying to port out of amaysim and back in using this Telstra sim. When activating the Telstra sim online using my existing amaysim number the process required a plan to be selected which I don’t want. I can’t see how the sim can be activated onliine using my existing number. I must be missing something?

        • +1

Just choose a plan and continue. I didn't even get the option to recharge before the SIM got activated.

        • @alvian: thanks. I’ll give that a go.

        • @alvian:

If we just keep it activated, how long the mobile num stays activated (for incoming calls/texts) without needing to recharge?

        • @electricbluee: 3, 6 or 12 months depending on your Pre-Paid offer. Telstra never spell out which offer has which expiry period.

      • Activated mine and it expires in 2 weeks :(

      • Will international roaming (receiving SMS only) work with this SIM without loading credit?

        • I don't know. Send a SIM to your overseas friend to try it out. Remember to tell us when you find out.

        • +1

          @alvian:

Just to follow up on this, I activated one of these SIMs in Australia yesterday, and was able to receive a text message at Changi airport ~12 hours later - i.e. it works.

  • Can the Optus $2 sim still be activated without adding credit? Need a new one for Optus Perks.

    • +5

Kind of… If you activate it online, without contacting Optus, it needs a recharge, however if you activate it through Optus PrePaid Live Chat, they just activate it and tell you to optionally recharge it yourself at the recharge site (if you want to)

      • I just activated 2 SIMs with online Optarse Chat. No plan asked for.

Thank you for that piece of gold. :-)

  • Thanks OP

  • +1

Thanks OP. $0 SIM ejector tool ;)

    • +2

Previous Telstra starter kits don't come with eject tools, and recent ones probably don't either. Recent kits from Vodafone do.

      • +1

and Belong kits have them too

        • Mine produced in November 2017 don't :-(

      • I need to correct my comment. Telstra has changed its starter kit and it now comes with an eject tool. Sorry for misleading you.

        • Was going to say. I was at JB Hifi porting to the $49 25GB telstra deal. I told the guy I needed a sim tool, and he yanked open a "$2" sim starter kit, and stole the one from there.

Anything to quicken Telstra C.E.O. Andrew (petname "Andy") Penn's dismissal is good in my books. Thanks OP

  • do these have an 'activate by' date?

    • Yes they do. The expiry date is printed on the back of the kit. In fact, this is how I came to re-discover this deal. The starter kit that I received previously was faulty, Telstra's computer declared it expired when the printed date is 4/12/2018. I had a Live Chat with a Telstra rep and he asked from where did I bought the kit. I searched and found deal 1, clicked through and I thought the "expired" deal is back for a new round.

  • Do we need to add any $ to activate this sim?
If not, then how long this sim can continue to be used with 0 balance?

  • -1

still got two sittng around doing nth, guess i will pass this. thanks tho

    • +4

Thanks for letting us know, just happened to be wondering about that.

  • +1

Google Play obsoleted, Creditme2U obsoleted, so bye bye Tel$tra.

  • Can I receive messages from this if I activate it only?
    Thanks

  • FYI I ordered 5, all with same day delivery in Melbourne. Same address, diff names. Only received 1 :(

    • +2

I guess the system's working then.

    • weird, i ordered 3 same day, same address, same name, all received at same time. It was overnight delivery instead of same day delivery. Perth area

  • Optus also has free $2 SIM delivered. https://offer.optus.com.au/shop/prepaid-mobile-broadband/sim…

Everytime I try to start a new thread I get knocked back by either same as or similar to another and now this because I am L's or P's I can't do an Optus thread. I'm gunna have to make up a bewdy to get past the L & P stage. :-(

i have seen sim packs at:

https://goo.gl/maps/R98pYqvzNRQ2 Rydges World Square Hotel 389 Pitt St, Sydney NSW 2000

  • So fast, got mine today via Startrack after ordering yesterday. Expiry March 2020!

    • Same!

  • If we just keep it activated, how long the mobile num stays activated (for incoming calls/texts) without needing to recharge?

why is this top deal? rubbish deal

Since I believe the last "yes" to free activation was a few months ago, can anyone confirm this comment in October that activation required top-up?

    • I can confirm that activation is still possible (at least on the 11th of December 2018) without a top-up, so the previous user (thriver) may have missed the button. At least on mobile, you will only see the option to not top-up if you select "Pre-Paid Max" and scroll to the bottom of the list (not Day2Day or Long Life Plus).
