    • Wow, your experience with their support sounds much better than mine. My phone has been hard resetting for a while now, I called Google and they acknowledged it had a hardware issue and they'd replace it but because it had a cracked screen I had to send it to a random company in Sydney first who could replace the screen and then to google and they'd replace it, which is the dumbest thing I've heard in a while. Maybe, I should tell them my headphone jack broke.

      • Might have got lucky - called and lodged a report about dodgy headphone jack a while before I cracked my screen, they sent out a replacement dongle, no luck, kind of forgot about it then when I cracked my screen figured would see if I can get a new unit.

For those interested in the phone though it's a known issue where the phone doesn't recognise the headphones are plugged in (hint hint for those others out there needing a replacement screen because of one too many beers).

Toll was terrible to deal with in arranging collection though the call centre is useless (all I wanted to do was drop it off at the depot as had stuff I wanted to do during the day).

  • Super tempted but with the Pixel 3 probably coming out in October….

  • I have tried a couple of Telstra Chat people today and none are having a bar of it for $49 per month.

  • +3

I got this deal the last time it was available (I think in March?). After maybe a total of 5-6 online sessions with Telstra, I was able to receive $10 off per month on my plan, and increased my data plan to 20GB instead of 15GB. :) Phone has been amazing and worth it in converting me from iPhones.

    • So you got the discount via Telstra online - how did you go about it?

What did you complain about to get $10 off a month.

      • I just said my bf was able to get the $10 off when he requested it, and asked if I could also get the $10 off. The first couple of people declined as they said I already got the 5GB bonus, but for my last convo I provided my bf's chat with support and they were able to give me the $10 off. It takes just a bit of effort.

    • Got the same thing and 100% agree!

  • Tried online chat they said they could not do it but could offer me a $10 month port in credit and 5gb extra data on the $79 samsung s9 deal.

  • Not obtaining this deal as I’mset with telcos but +1 for a great deal

  • I really wanted a Pixel 2 but I heard that the XL has a worse screen and is susceptible to playing up pretty often. This price is pretty hard to ignore though coming from a recently finished $60 p/month for a S7 with Vodafone.

    • Forget what you've heard. I've got one. Screen is great and it doesn't play up at all.

      BUT

My speakers are unfortunately susceptible to the distortion problem. I'll see if I can get it replaced closer to the warranty as it's very irritating with volume over 50%.

      • Thanks, it's been playing at me all day at work. I think I'll get it tomorrow night.

  • I got the same deal earlier this year and apparently after a while (a year I think), you can trade in the phone and get the next new flagship phone whether it be the pixel 3 or the new iphone. At least that's what I heard from the guy when I bought the phone

    • For the same price? As if.

    • You have to pay a New Phone Feeling fee of I think $129 AND sign up to a new contract in order to get a new flagship and that’s only available after 12 months into your contract

      • But not for $59/month.

  • No joy with the 3 customer service reps I spoke to. Would that budge from $59 a month plus $10 a month handset fee. Oh well. Would have been good to get it online as it's for my wife who has broken her arm and can't drive! Would have been much more convinent to get this online!

  • +1

its a shame the phone does not have micro sd card slot

  • +1

Just so you are aware that if the JB you go to had stock from the previous deal whereby it had the earphones and home mini attached, you will get that.

I just picked up that pack from JB at Maribyrnong for the wife who is now also on this deal.

    • I will try today.

  • I have tried over the last few days through Telstra online chat to get the deal. All of the agents I have spoke to (5 of them) said that the offer is only available in-store. Online its $59p/m + $10p/m handset fee.

Would be interested to see if anyone has been able to get this deal via online Telstra chat?

    • cosmickinect was able to do this. BUt not sure how.

      • @cosmickinect. Any help in obtaining the offer? Thank you

  • just off a chat to the Telstra reps, and seems that this deal was offered 4-5 months ago in-store, but they're unable to match it online. going to wander into our local store tomorrow and see what I can swing. 3 mobile services, home phone and cable might help my cause, but I'm not holding my breath…

my Nexus 6P is on 5-6 charges/day at the moment, and short of putting up with that until Pixel 3 release, I'm torn what to do.

Xiaomi Redmi Note Pro 5 TW model (has band 28, and LineageOS support)
Nokia 7 Plus (no band 28, and limited availability on current JB offer https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/391780)

or suck up crappy battery life for another 5-6 months and hope Pixel 3 XL will be at a decent price on a plan

    • +2

I got told the same thing online, so I went into my local store and asked…

Found out the plan is the $59 "family and friends BYO: https://www.telstra.com.au/content/dam/tcom/personal/help/pd…

I watched the Telstra rep go through the information yesterday on their system, the deal valid till the end of the month available to all stores and resellers.

It showed a 'bonus' screen for port in's at Telstra's end they can off the pixel 2 (regular) for free, but the pixel 2 XL is $10 (same deal as what I got offered on the online chat)

I told them and showed them the JB offer, the manager looked at the system, clicked a bunch of side screens from the plan and said I don't know how they can offer the additional $10 discount (to get to $59/mth)

Content in the knowledge that Telstra could no longer help, I went down to JB and saw the fine print for their offer is pretty much the same family and friends plan, with the pixel 2 XL for $69/mth but with a $10 port-in credit of $10/mth bringing it back to $59/mth… I was planning on porting in my wife's phone on the spot, only to be told a boost prepaid doesn't count as a port in, even though they have to do the same port process for it… And of I continued, I'd not qualify for the $10/mth bonus…

So either way if I went with Telstra or JB I'd be paying $69 for a pixel 2 XL on the $59 family and friends plan…

Long story short, I am disappointed with it all now!

      • Port out and port back in?

        • apparently you need to be on a network for 30 days minimum to qualify… :-\

        • @mattson: not correct.

My wife was on boost, guy told me in the JB store that they couldn't port.

Went to HN'S and got a $2 Optus Sim, ported out within 30 mins, this was at 5.30pm.

Went back to JB first thing in the morning, ported to Telstra, took home shiny new pixel 2 xl with headphones and home mini.

        • @jollster101:

          Was the headphones/home mini free?

        • @misterpotatomato: Yes…..the JB I was in had stock left over from when the previous deal ran and they were giving these away. Could have been that we were lucky that they had stock left from that deal.

        • @jollster101: Hi
Did you just sign up for an optus prepaid? I've been with telstra for a while, tried all the tricks to get this deal with no luck, so looking at doing the port out in thing..

        • @Mac1976: My wife was on boost, not Telstra. The port out and then in worked fine having just bought a $2 Sim and activated it.

BUT….. Others on here have said if you are with Telstra already you may not be able to port out and in the way you can with boost due to Telstra's back end system.

I know boost is essentially Telstra anyway but there appears to be something slightly different when porting out from full fat Telstra and back in over slim Telstra….aka boost.

        • @jollster101: thanks @jollster101 looks like I'll just have to wait for another good deal 😥

        • @jollster101:
I tried something similar. I was with telstra and ported to vodafone on Monday last week. I went into JB to try and get the deal. They did all the paperwork, then i signed the contract. The JB person told me it would take about 30mins for my vodafone # to get ported over to telstra and to go do some shopping and come back when i noticed that i got no signal on my vodafone sim adn they would give me a trlstra sim. Withink 30mins, i got a call from the JB person and was asked to come back to the store.

JB guy told me that since I had ported my number to Vodafone for less then 30days, the deal was not valid and I wouldnt be able to get the deal… The shit thing here is… They rang telstra to cancel the contract and to retract the # porting req. Telstra told her that the porting dept was not open sunday, and that I had to call telstra on monday (today) to get it stopped. Call telstra today to get the port stopped, was assured by the telstra guy that guy that he had sent the req to stop porting through. 2 hrs later, my vodafone sim stopped working.

Log story short, I stil don't have my original phone # back and im still calling telstra & vodafone to get this shit sorted.

So I'm not sure if I just got a shitty JB sales person that didn't want to make a sale cos they would get less commission OR telstra have actually blocked #s that have only been ported out of their system for less then 30days.

        • @BlitzR: What bugs me more than anything is that I'm a loyal Telstra customer for over 2 decades but any cool new deals like this never apply to me. Feels like the new customers are treated like royalty while loyal customers keep getting bent over.

If it wasn't for the fact that Telstra is about the only thing that works in my area I would have told them to shove it years ago.

        • +2

          @Ramrunner:
Couldn't agree more. Telstra never give existing customers any good deals. They seem to only try n suck new customers in with deals like this, then when the deal is finished, it's like go fk yourself.

The reason I initially ported out from telatra last week was because I had the telstra amway deal from over 2yrs ago (10gb for $42.50/mth). I didn't know that my 2yr contract had expired until I got a nasty bill that was $70. Rang them up n was told it was because my Amway contract had finished and the discount I was (25% off then $10 off) was removed and they were no longer extending it. Yup no warning at all (no SMS, email or letter).

It's now 7.30pm and my original number still hasn't ported back to vodafone. FU telstra

        • @jollster101: which JB did you go to? If I were to call a few stores, what would I ask them. For? What is this pack called?

      • Thanks for obtaining more info regarding this offer and clarifying it.
I was hoping to get a $10 credit added to my account (to bring it down to $49 p/m) though as JB Hifi already add a $10 p/m port-in credit, I doubt I'll be able to do so.
Might get an extra 5gb if lucky.

  • Anyone had any luck in increasing data?

  • Anyone have luck porting out for a day to optus/ vodafone, then getting this offer a day later?

    • Yes, see my earlier post.

  • I ordered mine through JB-Hifi on Wednesday. The order has not been processed still(48 hours). Not the port in, but just the order itself. Called Telstra and escalated, they said it should be done by Monday. 5 days for a order/port in??
How long did it take for you guys?

    • Wife did it there and then. Took home the pack from jb, popped the Sim in and voila, new Telstra service.

The guy in JB called the relevant Telstra department and did it all in store.

      • Thanks mate! The guy at jbhifi did not give me the pack too, said the order did not go through and it will take 4 hours. Gave me the sim card tho!
Im thinking if i should just cancel the whole thing

        • Maybe they didn't have stock hence not being able to give you the phone there and then. When we went in the guy did say it was the last physical stock he had.

Its a good deal at the end of the day so depends how desperate you are for the phone to be in your hands. If you can wait a few days then its worth it.

With Telstra you either get a ripper service and everything just works or you just sigh and shrug your shoulders. They typically work themselves out though.

        • @jollster101: They had stock in store. Apparently some IT issue in Telstra systems. They have to manually change the order status. Still no phone :( Think its going to be a couple of more days. Cant cancel as the order is in Transit

  • +1

Jumped on-board…. grabbed one today and got the Google Home Mini and Headphones with it.

  • Hey gang, my boyfriend signed up to this deal and is collecting the phone instore tomorrow. But the people at jb told him that for the pixel 2xl it would be an extra $10 on top of the plan (for the handset) making it $69 p/m instead of of $59 p/m. Can anyone here upload a receipt so the plan can be brought down to the actual price of $59 pm?

    • +1

Show them the screenshot in the OP, it's an email they (JB Hi-Fi) sent out so the store should honour it!

    • Are you porting in a new number to Telstra? Because if you're not, it'll be $69/mth and any Telstra network reseller, like boost or belong didn't count they told me…

      • May I know how to get this if I already with Telstra for $69?

      • He is porting his number over from optus to telstra. I wasn't with him at the time when he was talking to jb. But he's gonna talk to them again today, and hopefully showing the email might help out. Thanks for the suggestions @mattson and @doweyy. Fingers crossed it'll work out. Also for anyone who is curious, our local jb (canberra centre) still had the mini home + headphones bundle.

  • +1

Signed up today, comes with Google Home Mini and headphones. Also got extra 5GB via Telstra online chat. Great deal!

    • Hey at @mondano, if I may ask what sort of things were you implying to get 5gb extra

    • Hey @Modano.. I'm assuming you signed up in-store at JB Hifi, and then went to the online-chat to get the extra 5gb p/m added?

    • me too, was so easy.
      I am happy chappy now.

  • +4

I just got off Telstra's support, got a 5gb bonus data first try.
you all need to read Don Lok's book on how to be a closer lol.

I just said, JB-Hifi said I am able to get a 5GB new user bonus.
He said I already had a 10$ discount tho,

"i have been informed by JB-Hifi, that I should be able to get a bonus 5 GB data on my plan
for being a new member bonus
5GB welcome credit or 5GB port in bonus
is what he said it was called"

Got asked for details etc, he looked
Said i already have a 10$ discount but he will add 5gb data too.
then i got a text telling me i now have 20gb.

    • +1

Followed your advice and it worked.

I did originally get told no as the phone was free, but I said that it isn't it's just a coincidence that the porting credit covers the cost of the phone and they agreed.

  • spoke to 4 online chat rep.. nobody can do less than $59 per month, so sad:(

  • I had a week to go on my plan with Telstra, so I ported yesterday afternoon to Voda which took about 30 minutes
went to reconnect with Telstra and was told the number was still active.
Spent an hour on chat this morning to be told it takes 48 hours for the number to remove from the Telstra systems and also I can't port back for 3 months?
guess ill give it another crack today!

    • original store told me no - went to another one and now back with Telstra with the bundle in hand.

  • +5

Partner and I signed up on a shared account in store - Got the 5gb bonus share data(instore)

Hit up the telstra chatbot and spoke to a sales rep

Got another bonus 5gb on both numbers and $10 off on both numbers ($49/m)

    So in total 2x Pixel 2 XL - 45gb shared data - $98/m

    • Showmethedeal, that is exactly what I am trying to do but not having much luck with telstra online chat.
Are you able to PM your transcript? Telstra claim that they cannot do the further discount to bring it down to $49.
      Cheers!

      • id like to see that too! also read your name as SHOW METH eDEAL at first… :)

        • +1

          This isn't ozDarkWebBargain!

  • So my 12 month Telstra plan expires end of the month. On $49 fro 12GB rocking a Xiaomi Mi Max. What to do? Port out and get this? Sell the Pixel and get the Mi Max 3? Once you go big screen, you can't go back…or wait it out for new deal ?

  • I went in to JB this afternoon to get this deal and they told me the offer is no longer valid. I showed them the expiry date but the guy said that if I read their terms and conditions that they can remove the offers at any time. This sounds pretty misleading.

    • Try another story. I asked and was told the deal finished at the end of the month at one store, didn't end up being where I signed up though.

      • Thanks, I would except we're talking 150km to the next store.

  • Still worth getting if I'm paying a 500$ cancellation fee?

  • Thanks OP for the post.

Yesterday I called my closest JB store (Knox City, Melbourne) and they said they could put one aside for me —> call around and let your fingers do the walking.

The process was seamless being an existing Telstra Broadband customer. I had the phone, Google mini and headphones in my hands (I just outright asked for that package), and was connected to Telstra in under 20 minutes.

I then tried the Telstra chat to get an extra $10 discount but it failed miserably after 2 hours of chatting. Even chatted to the floor manager who said he couldn't do it.

I tried again today and got told that it cannot be done, persisted and BAM! Next month my bill will be down to $49/month ongoing. Tried to get the extra 5Gb in the same conversation but got rejected flat out. Took about 35 minutes…

Going to try again for the extra 5Gb with another chat rep, but I hardly break my existing Amaysim 10Gb.

I guess i just like the thrill of the negotiation and getting it.

    • How did you get the extra $10 discount? Is it because you have the Telstra broadband? I don't have any other Telstra services so not sure what angle I could try.

      • I asked for it. Said I wanted the same treatment etc.
It was an easier process to transfer me over and do all the paperwork because of my BB connection, but that's not why I got he $10 discount.

Keep trying, use the scripts people here are posting, refine and be determined.

        • I've been asking for the $10 discount too, but none are having it, they're saying it ended on the 23rd of July and cannot be done.
How'd you end up getting the discount, despite them saying it couldn't be done?
What was the discount applied on your account called?

        • @Chofy: Update: after an hour and talking to 2 people who insisted the $10 monthly credit as well as 5GB bonus had ended, I spoke to a third who gave me the discount but said it'll forfeit my "peace of mind data" which i didn't even know I had lol
Did another chat and asked for the 5GB bonus and got it within 5 minutes ez pz.
Thanks OP and for everyone's tips!

        • @Chofy: I tried to use this and was told that as the deal was already discounted $10 per month for the port in that I was not eligible for the $10 off for the peace of mind data. Apparently only full price plans can remove the peace of mind data and reduce the cost.

        • @AnotherRat: Ahh damn try a different operator/chat, you'll get it eventually, just requires a bit of patience aka 1hr + of your time

I was first told by one operator that the discount could only be applied for plans over $99, in a second chat told that she really wishes she could do the discount but it has expired. Third chat the operator said he'll check what's the best he could do for me and bam got it. Good luck though!

  • And like that! <click> an extra 5Gb added until re-contract.

  • Thanks OP! Pulled the trigger on this one! :D

  • So far managed to get the plan down to $49/mth with 30GB of data. I got close to getting it down to $39, but the person who said they did it, didn't actually process it. So need to find another person again to do it. Hopefully can get it down to $39. Managed to get the google home mini and headphones as well.
I went the FNN route and just purchased a $2 Optus SIM, brought it with me into JBHIFI, activated it there on the spot, the guy then got me the Telstra bundle and ported the number over. Went home, did my haggling for data/discount on both the 24/7 chat and phone, now just doing the FNN thing to get my current telstra mobile number swapped over onto the one on the new plan.
By tomorrow should be all sweet!

    CHEERS OP!

      Besides asking for:

      (1) "Valued Customer Bonus" $10/MTH discount, and

      (2) "Monthly Mobile Credit Bonus" $10/MTH discount.

Does anyone know of other $10/MTH discount names?

In the true Ozbargain Spirit I am hoping to score more discounts.

Also, has anyone managed to get more than 30GBs of included data?

      • Out of curiosity what qualifies someone for the Valued Customer Bonus? Do you have to have had a previous Telstra product before?

      • +2

        @TristanJ

This pertains only to Telstra App 24/7 and Telstra Phone Helpline 13 22 00. It does not relate to Telstra Stores (Australia) or JB Hifi (Australia).

        1. The lowest this plan can get is $39 per month. Their system does not allow them to reduce it any further. A technical limitation (hard coded). When I say "Plan" I meant the Mobile Number Plan (i.e. the monthly cost of providing the unlimited calls, including the data allocated etc…) excluding any cost of the Phone repayment (if any), International Call Package, Telstra Stay Connected (insurance) etc… I think for Google Pixel 2 XL, the Phone Repayment is set to Zero.

        2. Repeated monthly discounts/credits - I have seen
"Monthly Mobile Credit Bonus" $10 can be applied more than once (multiple times)
"Valued Customer Bonus" need not be $10 per month, I have seen it applied for $20 credit per month
"Go Mobile Plus Special Offer" $10 credit

          One-off discounts/credits - I have seen
"Debit Adjustments" (this is cash refund, requires a high level managerial approval, operators from Telstra App 24/7 or Telstra Phone Helpline 13 22 00 will not be able to approve refunds)
          "Mobile Account Adjustments"

There is actually no limit on the data included (i.e. the system will allow a higher amount of the data, if the Telstra personnel keys in a higher data allowance). The highest I have seen is 48GB monthly data allowance with no additional charges (unusual circumstances, but honestly, most ordinary mobile users don't need that much data)
        Examples:
        5GB Multi-Product bonus data
5GB bonus data per month (i think this can be any number, not necessarily 5GB or 10GB)
        10GB bonus data per month

This is what I have heard from previous Telstra/JB Hifi promo (April-May)
Some ppl gotten free International Calls included
Some ppl gotten it down to $39
        Some ppl gotten more data
Some ppl even gotten it down to 12 months (idk how he managed to, but it's crazy, i know)
        etc…

You can read previous threads on Telstra/ JB Hifi promo. This promo is not new, has been on-going for sometime and will continue to be so. Of course, all those ppl who gotten any bonus had to spend a lot of time making multiple calls/ follow up with Telstra, most with unusual circumstances. You just need to be able to justify why Telstra needs to give them to you. Be warned, it's alot of hassle and trouble. Not for the faint hearted.

    • From what I've read I didn't think you could swap your mobile number on a plan? I thought every plan had a fixed number, which is part of the contract. Did telstra confirm to you that this is possible?

      • Aghh yeah so just had WW3 with Telstra over this. I have written confirmation from them it could be done no problem on my plan with my number. They cancelled my old number yesterday and told me to ring them today to get it put on my new plan. I did and they told me they couldn't do it. I said I had it in writing that they could and would because it's the number I use for my business (thus an important number to keep). After back and forth, they are finally doing it now. Waiting for the email to confirm it's done, but not a good start with Telstra…
I guess do so with caution dealing with them. Have it in writing before you do anything incase they pull this rubbish.

        • Yeah, good thing you had it in writing first. I didn't think that process would have gone smoothly. Good stuff for getting it through though

  • +1

Went to JB-Hifi yesterday, got the phone, a headset and a google mini.
Called Telstra 4 times in order to get 5GB extra and $10/month disc.

    • Nice, really hoping I can do this too. Still waiting for my number to port over to amaysim…zzz… (hitting 2 birds with one stone by doing their $25 cashback at the same time lol)

      • +1

The deal end 31/7 but I'm sure there will be another.

    • how long has the port process been taking?
i've been waiting all afternoon and still not transferred
the guy in store won't give me the phone until transfer ok received from telstra

      • pretty quick, i think it was like 20 mins.

  • +2

Make sure that you are dealing with Telstra chat on a Sunday or late at night when the Indians are on duty. Australian reps wanted nothing to do with data bonus or $10 off, kept telling me that they can't do it because I bought from JB instead of direct etc, connected to an Indian yesterday and they were recommending offers lol, was too easy.

  • Anyone confirm or have transcript of this deal? I just purchased one any want the $49.00 per month deal

  • Yes transcript would be handy anyone ??

  • Anyone got their plan down to $29/month? Got mine down to $39/month. Telstra didn't outright say it wasn't possible, they just said I needed a reference number or phone number as proof so they could match it. So it seems like it is possible.
