It was looking so promising until "1366 x 768"… What monster is still making these bad things???

    • The best still has to come when your laptop needs repair endorsed by graysonline warranty.
So OP is this laptop refurbished, reconditioned or surely second hand with a non manufacturer warranty?

      • +3

he doesnt work for grays, nor is he a rep, he just posted the deal,

the grays warranty is pretty standard

        • @dealhunt:

How do you know he doesn't work for graysonline, did he tell you?

Because the ones that do post as a store rep.

          Eg https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/391617

          Or associated like so. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/391718

        • @xoom:

          Eeeeeeeexactly

        • -4

@xoom: I can work for graysonline and still post here as a normal user, you didn't know that?
And then where is the OP?
BTW, the price in the title has changed a lot since my first replay so all you are saying is pointless.

        • @dealhunt: theres a thing called sockpuppeting that stops said practice. That is posting deals or commenting on deals you are associated with without stating your association to the deal.

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:sockpuppeting

If you feel you are getting hard done by the op who posted this deal because you think they work for graysonline and not stating so. Feel free to report them. That simple.

Not saying you are not entitled to your opinion about graysonline.

        • @dealhunt:

          man, just give up

        • @xoom: What I stated was mainly because the price was excessive then it was reduced without notice and I already said it but you intentionally ignored and you mention shockpuppetting?
You're the one who making a big deal perhaps you act like being his tutor.
And since it's my right to give an opinion, I believe you know the OP who kept silent until now.
          My opinion of course.

I said nothing about this because that is your personal experience with them.

I can work for graysonline and still post here as a normal user, you didn't know that?

My sockpuppeting comment was about this comment.

You're the one who making a big deal perhaps you act like being his tutor.

          This is baseless accusation.

And since it's my right to give an opinion, I believe you know the OP who kept silent until now.

Again. Not an opinion but an accusation. Also baseless.

We get it. You had a bad experience with graysonline. Doesnt mean you can attack people like you are doing now.

        • @xoom: I'm not attacking anyone, I just am making a point that I made the first comment based on the previous high price tag then the OP "quietly" changed the price.
If you feel offended because you're in the business, that is your personal problem.

I have the same model but with i7-7500u. Screen can be replaced in 5 minutes flat. You can get a good FullHD IPS screen off eBay for about $70-ish. The best screen you can put in this laptop costs $120, and it is a color accurate FullHD IPS panel (60hz). that's what I put into mine.

      • That's actually a really good point… Considering most people would be stripping it to put an SSD in.

        • yes, and I haven't used a single laptop in the original configuration for years now. the first thing you do when it's out of the box, is off with the spinning drive, in goes ssd, and crappy TN panel goes to the shelf in case I need to return the damn thing.

        • @kasaresj: I would change the drive too but that means reinstalling Windows, dealing with a license and warranty.

        • +1

@dealhunt: not really. windows licence is in bios, so when you install ssd and install windows, license is taken from bios automatically. also, you don't break any seals when you install ssd, so warranty is not voided.

        • @kasaresj: Of course you don't break any seals, that was obvious, computers do no have seals.
But in case you need warranty, the seller will see someone else did a job so warranty will be voided.

        • +1

@dealhunt: no one ever denied warranty on my laptops.

        • @kasaresj: I'm talking for anyone not just your own.

  • Would anyone know if this would be an OK travel laptop for photo editing? Lightroom Classic CC mainly.

    • I don't know about photo editing much, but don't you need a good display? This is HD not FHD

    • CPU and ram size on this laptop are very good.

you just need to spend another $75, change the hard drive from 2tb to 256gb ssd (easy 30mins to 1 hour job), then it will be much more sufficient to run lightroom, even will run indesign, illustration, ps and bridge smoothly.

    • I have an i7 version of this model, and I would say yes, but you need to replace spinning drive with ssd, and replace the screen. it comes with a standard TN panel that is NOT suitable for photo editing. You need a panel with accurate colour reproduction, and they are about $120 for this model. I bought this laptop for exactly this purpose: photo editing, and with the upgrades above it delivers everything I need.

  • I don't think this can do it with just the one HDMI port, but does anyone know of any laptops around this pricepoint that can handle dual monitor input? I have two Acer G257HL 25" monitors, but looking to make the jump from a desktop to a laptop, any advice?
