        • I keep repeating myself -_-" Fourth time now …

This offer is to promote shopping in the city. Is there a Westfield in Melbourne city? No.

        • +5

@kerfuffle: Just give up replying to these guys man.

    • DJ, Mecca. So disappointed MUJI is not participating

    • Myer, DJ, Priceline

      • -2

        Priceline is only for Sydney

        • +2

2 priceline stores in Melbourne also participate in this promotion

        • @lgacb08: Oops, didn't recall seeing it on the Melbourne list. Thanks!

  • +7

ok. so just want to clear up for members in sydney.

    Wesfield's THREE BS:

    1. they done the no split and id check policy, that is one BS.
    2. second: the lady said red card for westfield only for outside you need gold and pay more activation fee.
    3. third, since day 3 or 4, they started to tell everyone on the queue "the two wesfield booth locations (below myers next to T2 and the one next to microsoft) are the SAME, you wont get the offer twice - this is new policy - do you understand, this is the paper announcement bla bla bla"

this is what i have done to counter their BS:
    1. brought a girl photo id and her amex, i am a guy - they didnt even blink and let me buy. WHATT??
    2. bought red and used it at woolworth to top up opal. seriously, why need to lie for just extra $2?
    3. i took the risk, used 1 same card on those 2 diff locations, and whoa-la 3 days later, i got 2x $20 back showing on my amex app. one is under westfield sydney central plaza, another one westfield sydney

    • Good work. Thanks

    • +2

      Voilà*

    • +2

Agree with what you've said about #1 and #3.

With #2 - my suspicion is it's lazy programming (of how the GCs are setup). Logically, it doesn't make sense for them to have both the red and gold if both are the same. For them to have both, I think it's reasonable for a staff member to think and believe that the red only works in Westfields, otherwise why have the gold one at all? The red is not advertised as an EFTPOS card so they're not lying, at least in regards to what's in black and white.

As for #1 and #3, it's not logical because:

      • The logic behind not splitting is to save on errors and should have nothing to do with the promo, but it can always be argued that it saves them a lot of potential administrative headaches if things do go wrong, and as a (great) side effect to them, generates them a lot more revenue in the way of activation fees. On the flipside, this is exactly how it disadvantages us - the card fees stack up, but what can we do? It's their application of the rules, I guess, and either you agree or you don't buy, despite it being illogical.
      • The two locations are listed in black and white as two separate locations. Them advising that you don't get credits for both is literally contradicting what is communicated to us in black and white.
    • About number 2, it s true. Doesn t matter the color of your card, you can used it nationwide in any westfield and woolworth are taking them ( as long as the shop is in westfield). Bought the giftcard at westfield sydney and used them at woolworth paramatta without any issues.

    • Should we all bring this to the attention of AMEX that some retailers are not treating their loyal AMEX cardholders with good customer service?

  • How longs it taking for everybody's credit to appear? One of mine's taking over a week whereas the others I received credit within 48 hours.
Anyone have the link to contact them about this?

    • It can take up to 90 days (in the terms and conditions). Did you get the e-mail for the credit that's stuck?

      • Got 1 email out of 4 cards used. only received credit for that 1 transaction. offer saved on all 4 cards.

        • The stores you shopped at are participating, right?

        • Yeah I'm referring to the same store that I've received 1 out of 4 credits from.

        • @julzihead: No idea, then. Might have to wait out the 90 days or contact Amex as that's weird

    • No email, not a good sign.

      • 4 transactions on the same terminal but only received one email. Anyway to contact them? There use to be a form but it’s not there anymore.

        • Live chat

        • Call the number that's on the back of your card?

        • will do cheers

    • Got emails and credits (posted a day later) for 11/12 of my cards.

One of my primary cards didn't get either. Just chatted online with them and they said the credits are showing on their end but may take a couple of days longer to show up. Responses were slow so didn't bother asking why they've already posted for all my other cards.

  • +7

Got all 15 credits, thank you to everyone who contributed to this topic this year. See you all again next year :D

    • So jealous. By the way you need to register each card, with 15 different emails login id, correct? Setup 15 different online accounts?
And Register for each offer for each card…

      • +1

Some people here have 30+ cards, I don't know how they'd manage all the logins…

        • Just Curious, How many Primary cards would they have? I have got 4 on my explorer.

And in general, how many supplement cards can we have on Explorer?

They say 4 additional cards free, is there any fee after that?

        • +1

          Eg

          Username -
          Mathnerd1
          Mathnerd2 etc

          Same password

Use a spreadsheet to mark off offers used

        • @Peanut money: i see. i have just 1 card and 1 supp.
wife has 1 card and 1 supp.

i think we should be able to manage just 4 cards or maybe create more supps

      • +1

can use same email address and even same mobile no, just do soandso01 …02 …03 etc

      • +2

        15 credits is 5 cards

      • with 15 different emails login id, correct

Relax, only 5 cards (3 credits each) so 15 credits.

  • +5

Thanks everyone for their contributions. I've received more credits than I can count, but the highlight was getting an iPad + Apple Pencil at 40% off at Myer:

    Total Price = $469 $457 + $145 = $602.

    Pay $50 on 12 cards (=$600) + $2 on any random card.

Net price of both items = $362, or a ~41% discount on RRP. For an Apple product, that's pretty sweet.

    • +2

      Well done you!

Don't have any big bragging reports of my own but I'm happy with saving $50 off my Dior skincare thanks to this Amex offer!

      • +1

        Thank you :)
Got 18 credits at David Jones too, stocked up on shoes and gift cards :)

        • +1

In time for mid season sale coming up very soon! :)

        • @kerfuffle: Oh nice! Would you by any chance happen to know if the Men's Florsheim shoe range is included in the mid season sale? They're currently at 20% off until Monday but if the mid season sale has better pricing then I'm happy to hold off until then :)

        • @MathNerd: No idea; sorry! Usually mid season would be 30% off at least for seasonal shoes, I think

        • @kerfuffle: No worries, thanks heaps :)

        • that's a lot of cards

    • -2

from all you posted i only see one expensive pencil

    • How many primary and supplementary cards?

      • +1

I have 2 Primary Cards, one with 9 Supplementary Cards, and the other with 8 Supplementary Cards.
My partner has 1 Primary Card with 3 Supplementary Cards.
Total of 23 Cards between us. That's nothing!

  • There are colesmyer gift cards on the top level of Myer, the counter at the back to the right, for anyone interested

    • That's great, but which city are you referring to since your profile doesn't indicate where you're from?

    • yup, tried level 1 to 5, none but some at level 6 (top). if you take escalator, once arrive at level 6 turn right then right again go a little further

    • There are no more coles myer gift cards on Level 6 when I went over today.

      • i went there at 2pm. at least 1 more there after i bought one. follow my instruction. from escalator (not lift) turn right then turn right again keep walking to the back not the first counter but second. it is unattended so just grab one and find other counter to load and pay.

    • +1

No more yesterday near closing as well. My suggestion is to get a blank Colesmyer gift card from Coles, and have Myer load it for you :)

      • Technically stealing if you do this though …

        • +2

blank cards have no value, so it's not stealing. you can ask the staff nicely first if you like. it's just a suggestion for those who might otherwise miss out.
PS. I didn't have to do this myself, just trying to help others

        • @magwri: They have value to the retailer when they have to count the gift cards for stocktake. This actually has been mentioned before by another user and while it's an interesting idea, it is after all stealing (that comment thread was shut down at the user's request once they realised how it could go downhill fast)

        • @kerfuffle: Well said (or written!).

  • Sad I missed out on this being in Brussy :( I wanted some 40% off deals!

    • You can always fly down to Sydney or Melbourne 😛

  • +2

Thanks everyone, this deal translated to a pretty decent hourly rate on this Sunday :)

    • +1

      Tax free as well

  • Lagger here, husband is going in to do all the gift cards tomorrow in Sydney. Could anyone pls help answer the following…. Just to clarify; is djs market st seperate to djs Elizabeth st store? So two seperate credits?
And is it all over with the Westfield 2 locations having been consolidated into 1? Has anyone been recently to buy gift cards, if so are they still asking for id.
    Thanks

    • +1

is djs market st seperate to djs Elizabeth st store? So two seperate credits?

      Yes

And is it all over with the Westfield 2 locations having been consolidated into 1? Has anyone been recently to buy gift cards, if so are they still asking for id.

They count as two locations. Don't know about ID; read the comments. It sounds like your husband doesn't have all the Amex cards in his name …

    • +2

Jtkerj123, I was there yesterday. Both locations asking for ID. No split payments, they are firm with charging $2.95 for a $50 gift card.

      • +1

Search switckeroo and you will be fine with ID checking

        • +3

Not if you spell it like that; they'll never find anything. It's spelt switcheroo

        • +1

@kerfuffle: or just search for word switch, multiple, etc

  • Trying for consolidating everything into David jones purchase then to take overseas for tax back.

    • +4

Trying for consolidating everything into David jones purchase then to take overseas for tax back.

      Professional at work.

PS. At any point, did you consider liking (+1) this promotion?

  • +5

I went to the Westfields counters today and managed to get my gift cards. The older lady (wearing glasses) next to Microsoft counter scruntised my license. She spent a good 2o seconds looking between my photo id and me, back and forth several times.

At the Elizabeth street DJs, I tried to pay for a $150 gift card and the older lady sent me to level 3 market street customer service. Wouldn't even serve me. So I went up a level and got it there instead. All 3 older ladies weren't helpful at all and need to improve their customer service skills

  • +1

I stacked this with a price match at Myers https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/402146
Got a new Bose QC35ii with Two amex cards for around $300

  • +2

Went to Westfield central plaza to get 5 gift cards today with my husband and the lady went on about having to check id on apple pay. Fine! Showed her the name going through each card which takes much much longer and holding up the queue. The lady was very focused each time when she checked the name on the screen. When it came to the 4th card, she said "this one 0101 had gone through already". It happens to have the same 4 digit number as another card then we had to argue and prove it is NOT the same card. Can't believe she was even trying to memorise the numbers on the screen! Seriously?

  • +2

Went to 2 westfields in pitt st today, staffs insisted on checking ID and wouldn't allow split payment.

So have to get $50 gift card and $2.95 fee. The staffs near Microsoft were efficient but rather cold altitude.

Myer nearby has run out of Coles Myer gift card.

Ended up getting Good Food gift card as couple of our favorite eateries are included (Mamak as well).

Myer staffs were nice and ok with split payment and no surcharge.

  • +5

The gift card kiosk machines at David Jones Bourke St are not being processed as David Jones Bourke St. I purchased a gift card from the counter and from the machine on the same card and have received cashback for both

    • Interesting, which machine was that. I tried to use the one on level 4/5 (can't remember) but got no credit back

      • Where the customer service / click and collect counter which sells the gift cards. The cashback from the machine took about 7 days to show up on my account. Processed as "GIVV BOURKE STREET MAL"

        • Yeah, thanks. My credit showed up today too.

  • Microsoft Westfield checked ID tonight but Myer side Westfield did not.

    • Myer side, was it the young guy working there? He didn't check mine as well last week

      • I wonder how many young guy is working at the kiosk next T2?! Because if it s always the same, he really pick up who to check the id. And by experience , i can say he rejected every asians that don t match the id what is not fair.

        • well if the customer is cute chicks i believe he will want to check id so he can stalk her.
          dohhhh

  • +1

Thank you for the replies, much appreciated. Got all the cards done today apart from Westfield gift cards where I have to go in as they would not let my husband get them even tho he had my drivers license with him. Thanks again for all the help.

    • +1

Ran into this trouble last year. My wifes name starts with J and so does mine so we decided to get the card names changed to just show J and our surname.

Been waiting a year to get my revenge. TAKE THAT WESTFIELDS!!!

Friend went to Pitt St Westfield for giftcards yesterday, she tried using Google pay but was rejected as the woman couldnt verify her ID with the cards. WTF? She said with Apple Pay you can check the name on the card… but with Google Pay you can't, so tough luck!

WTF is the point of a digital wallet when they won't let you use it? I'm heading down there this arvo and will try to use Google Pay. If they reject I will go nuts

    • Best of Luck. Let us know how you go.

    • +1

Try write an e-mail to Westfield and see what they say regarding Google Pay

    • +1

agree they made us like a thief wanting to steal giftcards.

    • +2

Following up: The woman told me she has been instructed to check name on the card matching ID, but she was nice enough to do it for me regardless with Google Pay… I think it depends on who is at the desk and whether they are sticklers or not

      • +2

A lot also depends on the attitude of the customer.

  • +5

Had an hour in the city and hit this promo hard. Reporting on the experience - emails received for all:

    • Nespresso: worked with the self-service kiosks downstairs
    • Westfield: 1x $50 gift card, served by younger woman on ground floor next to MS. Checked ID, but processed without issue
    • Myer: $50 iTunes gift card in tech area on L3. Older man was very friendly
    • Uniqlo: straightforward transaction x1 card
    • Swarovski: was able to split a payment across 2 cards
  • OP Please note

A promotional rate of 30% extra credit on VAEFNO transactions
    1000 Membership Rewards points= $9.63(was $7.41)

is for if you have explorer credit card

    It's 1000 = $9.01 if you have Plat Edge

    • serious question, is that a good rate?

      • It is a decent rate - almost 1c per point. I have the offer on my Amex Gold card where 4 points = 3 VA or SQ points if you transfer to those programs. This offer is better than that.

  • +4

Sydney Myer level 2 still has a bunch of Coles Myer cards

    • must just arrived today i was there and none. huh….

      • I was there just before 6pm, and found a few at the register near David Lawrence/Calvin Klein
