    dam that's cheap

  • +3

lol I remember early last year they had 1TB going for $120+

Hard drives are sure getting cheaper and cheaper :)

  • +2

    http://www.xpmicro.com.au/cgi-bin/xpmicro/WD20EARS.html?id=3…

This one is cheaper if you want to pick up from Auburn NSW.
    Fair few around there.

    edit
Do not understand the negs but oh well, $89(Drive)+$19(Postage to NSW) > $96.90 (Drive+Pickup)

    • +2

how is 94.95 cheaper than 89?

      • I assume the delivery fee added on makes it more expensive for those of us "unlucky" enough to live in NSW.

        • +5

I agree, those living in NSW are unlucky! That place smells funny.

      • +1

I do believe IanPlatypus and chuneeperformance meant that it's cheaper for Sydney buyers to buy from those sites instead of having it delivered from here.

      • +1

It is cheaperer, unless you live in Perth.

    • whoops didn't realise what you meant before I negged :/ but I don't think you should be negging the deal based on location

    • +1

Do you understand what flat rate means?

You can order a PC case which is very expensive to post and still only pay $20. You can order as much as you want and still only pay $20.

But for 1 drive it is expensive.

      • +2

Of course I know what a flat rate is, but declaring it still doesn't make it just. Shipping coats are supposed to reflect the ACTUAL costs of shipping and handling. Since Australia post doesn't do flat shipping rates, obviously their shipping costs do not reflect their actual costs and thus one of two scenarios are occurring, either they are making a net shipping profit on sale of small individual items (subject to the high shipping rate), or they are making a net loss by suffering expenses that exceed their 'costs' on shipping bulky items. In one scenario the consumer is getting screwed, in the other the shop is. You decide what's happening…

        • +10

I think what you have forgotten here is that these guys are based out of WA. So if you're in WA it's a sweet deal. Now if you're in the eastern states maybe not so much. If you pause for a second and realise that a good 80%+ of deals on here are based in the east as many of them charge a lot extra for shipping to WA which makes them no such a great deal for peps in WA. :D

        • Mate you're not getting my point, im not denying that its a great deal for people in WA. Nor am I denying the fact that alot of the deals posted here are based around the eastern end of Australia.

Im simply negging against the practise of inflating shipping prices in order to earn further profit, rather than raising the price of the product itself. Shipping and handling costs, by their very nature, should be an expense (passed on to the consumer) that the shop incurred getting the product from their location to your door, no more.

        • +2

I get your point, but will that mean you will be consistent with your voting practices and neg deals that offer something awesome
to eastern states while charging a butt load for shipping to WA?

        • Half the problem is that shipping in Australia is so expensive. eParcel rates start at about $6.17 for anything under 500gm for shipping Australia Wide. This hard drive will cost them approx. $9.89 to ship from WA to Melbourne with NO insurance.. Tack that on and the price just jumped up to $11.02. eParcel rates are based on an introductory eparcel agreement and you can get better pricing but only when you start to move volume. A lot of volume… once you get the Catch Of The Day status they don't even care about the weight.

Nice to see W.A. people getting a deal! Good on ya NetPlus.

this has both its pros and cons

        PROS

Large multiple orders for large items such as PC Cases, Laptops, Screens, etc

        CONS

Orders for small items such as ram, usb, etc

    • +1

      you go girl.

    • +3

Their shipping sucks if you want to buy small items but very good for larger items.

    • +1

or you could like, you know, pick it up from the store?

    • This would be fine if they where purely an online store, but they have 2 locations and anyone in Perth can go pick it up for the $89 price or have it delivered for $94.

  • +1

What happened to the OCAUDELIVERY code?

  • +13

Cheap for Western Australians that usually have to put up with expensive delivery from other states?

  • -6

Postage price makes this deal rubbish for NSW.

    • +7

You realise that Australia is much bigger than just NSW right.

      • +8

Postage price makes this deal rubbish for VIC, NT, SA, QLD, NSW, ACT, and TAS =)

        • +3

          WA is Australia's biggest state.
Australia has about 7.6 million square km of land/sea
WA takes up 2.6ish million of those square km's. And also I'm pretty sure that those in country Australia having it delivered from here would probably be cheaper than having it delivered from other stores. Considering after adding $19 it's still only $108 which is only about $10 more expensive than shop fronts in the metro area of other states.

(CynC I know you're not having a go at me, but I thought I'd use the chance to explain to others why this is actually a great deal!)

    • +34

Sydneysiders have Fluidtek while us in WA have Netplus. You dont see every person from WA negging a fluidtek deal because their shipping to WA sucks.

negging a fluidtek deal because their shipping to WA sucks.

Whenever they have a sale they never offer shipping!

        • +2

isn't that worst? i rather they have ridicilous flat rate shipping than have no chance of buying at all?

        • +1

So how does that not suck? :P

      • Any everyone else has… no equivalent
Sure there's gocomp for queenslanders and pccg for vics but there's nobody that comes to mind who does lots of really good specials :(

  • The site's currently showing $99 not $89 as stated. Is there a code I'm missing?

    • the price on the right hand side says 89 on my screen

      • Hmm… just changed back to $89.

        • Gremlins. Or bilbies. You have to keep an eye on both.

        • Fought off the gremlins and bilbies to buy one.

        • +1

oh careful i had to face the trolls

  • Well I reckon if you get with a group of friends and buy multiple computer stuff, you can't go wrong for $20!
4 friends each buying a hdd, equates to $5 postage, I'd do that!

    • That's true, except it doesn't apply to this specific deal: even if you got 5 others together the deal states 1 per person (i.e. order).

  • At least Sydneysiders have Fluidtek while those in WA have Netplus. Queenslanders have nothing! :(

    • Umart often comes up as cheapest for quite a few items that I search for on staticice. Who knows, they may even price match MSY if you ask them nicely

    • +2

we have msy, umart, computeralliance, itsdirect, coolpc, pricepoint
what do you mean we have nothing :(

  • +1

$20 is too expensive especially with a limit of 1 per customer.

  • -1

postage cost should be the actual price of shipping. They are ripping of those in other states thus this deal is rubbish.

  • +5

I think this is the same drive that was offered at $154 last year with a $20 coles\myer card. I paid $134 last year (minus the gift card) and its only $89 now. Will be buying one today.

I don't know why people would even consider negging this deal. If all the WA people start negging deals that have high shipping or can't get, then 90% of all deals on this site would have negatives.

  • +7

I live in NSW and while the shipping is too expensive for me to justify buying one, I feel the deal offers great value to locals. Positive from me.

    • +4

      yeah
      +1 from QLD
even though its $20 shipping for me, its great for WA-ers

as mentioned before, they had to deal with the good deals(mainly from MSW and VIC), so now this is for them, so good on ya

I think what you have forgotten here is that these guys are based out of WA. So if you’re in WA it’s a sweet deal. Now if you’re in the eastern states maybe not so much. • +3

With half of Vic underwater and some of NSW unreachable by roads, maybe shipping factors in the costs of hiring rescue boats and choppers.

"Oh, thank goodness, a helicopter! Hey!"
      Helicopter lands
      "Are you Mr Spencer?"
"Yes. Uhh… Do you have any emergency food or water?"
"No, but here's the hard drive you ordered the other day. If you just sign here…"

  • Are these ok for putting in to a WHS and storing media om?

    • They are green drives which mean they spin slower (Same speed as a laptop) but if you are only using them for storage they will be fine and you save some money on electricity bills.

I do not know how much slower they would be if you were heavily using the drive compared to a faster drive.

    • Pay a few extra bucks and get a Samsung F4 2TB drive. I've had a few Western Digital drives crash on me in the last year. An external 1TB drive, a 2TB internal and a 500GB I bought for a mates Mac. I think it is quite possibly bad luck on my end. I caught them all in time so no data lost. Well not much at least. I'm sure there are an equal number of stories for failed Samsung/Seagate drives. I think they are all much the muchness these days. Just bad luck on my part.

      • -1

Right there with you buddy, I've had 3 WD hds fail in the last year, one of them was a few months old 2.5" that just crapped itself overnight. Won't be buying another again.

  • +1

Just adding if you miss out on this one PLE have a Samsung 2tb HD for $89
    http://www.ple.com.au/ViewItem.aspx?InventoryItemID=601828&C….

Not sure on the postage costs though

  • -8

    Postage KILLS it.

      wow really?…

      here are some comments,

      Postage KILLS it.

for you perhaps……. but for pick ups or local delivery, it's a good price

Try and think outside of your world

      • -4

Its a deal on the internet that offers postage, and the postage kills it.

I've sent a parcel to canada that could have easily carried 2-4 HDD's very well packaged for $20.

They're clearly making money off shipping, no thanks.

        • +1

          Fixed Shipping $19

          PROS
Large multiple orders for large items such as PC Cases, Laptops, Screens, etc

          CONS
Orders for small items such as ram, usb, etc

  • -6

    $19 for postage?…please =/

  • If I was in WA I would totally snap this up. A plus from me.

    • -2

I wonder if this bargain was say a computer case or pre built system and delivery was %19 would you neg?

    • If it was local pickup only then that wouyld be fine - we would have no reason to neg it. but when they offer postage and charge double the actual cost that opens the door to neg votes… think about it.

This deal is not compulsory…..people in other states would be sensible to consider other retailers, as the cost of shipping is high. This limits the appeal of the item.
However……. we cannot neg every deal that we personally are not able to take advantage of. This is a good deal for walk ins (or local postage).

The retailer's shipping policy is, to a large extent, irrelavent to this…. It's good for some (folk in wa….heavy/bulk items buyers, etc), not so good for others…… Tis how it is.
Comment for sure…..but don't neg….enough neg votes removes it from the front page, denying some folk the opportunity to take advantage of what might be a great deal, for their particular circumstances.

  • -1

    This is a great price.

  • +1

Wow, a lot of people whinging here. OzBargins isn't ONLY an online deals website and if the particular deal doesn't apply to you just move on until you find one that does.

  • +1

Guys, seriously. For anybody who can do pickup (WAers) this IS a good deal. Just because it's not a good deal for you doesn't mean you have to go off badmouthing the deal and the person/people offering the deal. Be courteous and respectful and realize that there ARE people who will benefit from this deal. :)
