Price promise is the icing on the cake lol

I would not recommend anyone wanting a steady connection to go with these guys. Since I’ve been with this mob my connection has been terrible frequent drop outs and once my net was down a couple of days and the sad part was you have to chat to these guys on live chat and they refer issue to specialist by the time the guy go around to it my connect was back up and none the wiser on wtf was happening/happen to cause the drop outs….

I’m on the 50/20 tier but feel like it’s worse than my previous ausbbs 25/5. Only upside is now I’m paying $55 instead of $70, I was thinking how can this go wrong with $15pm saying and better speed lol was I wrong… I’m just one more incident away from jumping ship good thing I’m not on a plan *sigh

    • yea ive kinda just given up on all these cheap ones, u get what u pay for. running into a host of problems, or fork out abit more for a better, more reputable service.

  • +2

Hi mate, I got the price hike to $85 for 100/40 for 1000GB. How can I or other existing customers get this price?

    • -1

I just contacted support via chat. They just asked me to chnage to the new pricing plan and this would kick in the next billing cycle. Apart from the debacle they had of 'when and how' they increased the price, I have found no issues with my connection. I don't do online games instead I watch a lot of TV (Netflix and prime on HDR where available). I am on FTTP Melbourne. Everyone should be given one chance to redeem themselves.

  • Worse Internet service I ever seen.

  • Big mistake indeed.

  • +3

Peak speeds are terrible. On the 50/20 FTTP and hardly get 25 down when I test.
Any connection to Aussie servers might be good, but connection to overseas servers are slow as.

    • Plus one. What's the point of a cap if speed still sucks.

  • +2

I switched after the price hike, however from my experience they were fine. Peak speeds always good. Good value for the price.

  • Totally agree, not very reliable service. Speed is well below promise. When I was using myrepublic, I got 90 for the 100/40, with these guys, I only got 45 for the 100/40.

    • My MR service earlier this year was poor. But they seem to have fixed the issue with a few upgrades in my area. Now I'm getting the advertised speeds again.

  • +4

Only speaking from personal experience but I have found speeds to be generally reliable via HFC in Melb. Some congestion prior to the infamous price rise, and some drop outs, so not for mission critical connections. Anyway, it's no Rolls Royce but for me it's an affordable option for useful 100/40.
Plus, I like RSPs having the decision makers active in WP forums.

    • +2

I'm in the same boat; HFC in Melbourne. Been with TC since Aug 2017 and the price rise meant I changed from 100/40 down to 50/20. Consistently great speeds and drop outs are usually maintenance in the middle of the night that don't affect me. Unlimited/unmetered uploads and offpeak is great!

  • +4

Was with them on the $65 100/40 plan. Pings are a joke for Brisbane users as its routed through Melbourne would be averaging around 100-140ms at night for games. Payment system is just terrible as well as their price increase for loyal customers, you would have to me mad to still continue to advertise on this platform after screwing so many customers so a big fat neg for me you bunch of tools

    • +4

Brisbane now has their own working POP and is no longer routed through Melbourne. Payment system is still very confusing.

    • +2

Worst payment system ever. Their portal sucks a big one.

  • +5

I left before the price increase due to extremely slow peak speeds. Sometimes they were 80% slower than other Telstra, Aussie Broadband and iiNet services I was testing.

Can you improve speeds with this original pricing?

  • +4

Your reckless move have taught your ex customers to use contracts to protect themselves from price hikes. I believe most of your ex customers are now in contract with your competitors (including myself), so try again in a year’s time.

    • Who are you with?

      • +1

Exetel. I have FTTP connection. Although others reported issues with Exetel, I am able to get 44/18 speed for my 50/20 plan. No issues so far.

        • +1

Yep cheaper than TC as well with a good modem for $20 and unlimited.

        • @TarquinOliverNimrod: On which offer? 50/20 500GB is $60/month on TC and Exetel. The plus with TC is unlimited/unmetered uploads and off peak. I only chose that offer as that's the one I'm currently on with TC.

        • @sween64: I was meant if you were going on contract.
          I'm on 50/20 1000gb $60 so it's comparable I guess.

Side note do you not get any issues? I keep getting greatly reduced speeds at different times of the day and get crazy ping spikes where I can't even connect to Oceania servers. By the time I email and get a response, problem is gone.

        • @TarquinOliverNimrod: I have very few problems. I'm on HFC in Nunawading. I no longer do speed tests and ping tests as I just don't care that much (and I've dropped to 50/20). As long as it works I'm happy which it has been over the last few months. Torrents still max out at 5 MB/s via a VPN. Steam downloads happening at 6 MB/s. I honestly think the reliability and customer service are improving but some may just call me a fan boy. I did have trouble accessing the OCAU forums last week but it was fixed in about 12 hours.

        • @sween64: Hey are you associated with TC? In some of your previous posts, you declared yourself to be associated with TC.

        • @nosrad: For one post I was associated as John asked me to post the deal. Other posts I chose to post myself as they were good deals.

        • @sween64: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/394337
There's this offer now $60 50/20 unlimited. Supposedly better than vocus

        • +1

          @TarquinOliverNimrod:

Only for 5 months. Ended locking myself in with Exetel. Was always against contracts but took the chance with Exetel after the terrible service with telecube.

          • Static IP is free with Exetel!
        • @TarquinOliverNimrod: I was tempted to change but I'm away for most of August and am worried about an HFC transfer. I've recommended it to a friend who is looking at a new NBN connection soon.

        • +1

@sween64: tbh telecube seem to be improving a lot. Might stick it out with them.

        • +1

          @TarquinOliverNimrod:
That's my TC experience too. Perth FTTN and now getting 93/35 all the time, with 500GB for $70 - what's not to like?

  • +20

Oh Dear, you probably should stay away from OzB for awhile.
Stick with the nerds on Whirlpool, iron out the bugs in your & Vocus's network, then come back next year with a bargain offer.

  • +4

Had serious congestion issues. Switched to Aussie broadband and my connection has improved dramatically.

  • +6

F me! Is this a joke? The bait & switch club are back.

I was lured away from a reasonable deal ($90 1Tb 100/40 + free calls) with Telstra after they did the 'refund for underspend' thing. I was ok with the $99 setup fee as I presumed the $69 1Tb 100/40 would last at least a year. 5 months in, the hike to $85!

NOW, turns out they can do it for $75. What a cheek. Why didn't they do that in the first place?

    How about 100/40 500Gb for $70?

    • Gee that was a good Telstra deal.

It looks like they are offering 100/40 500Gb for $70
      https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2742696&…

anyway I'm glad they've offered this now and not a week ago as I may have taken it up. But after last Friday night's outage and flakey connection & speeds over the past few weeks, the family have repectfully requested (yeah right) we move to another provider. I'm just waiting out my monthly plan.

      • You won't regret it, I switched away half a yr ago before the price rise even happened.

I cut my speed in half, paid a few $ more, family couldn't be happier, they shouted me to dinner and was treated like a Saint.

        • +2

Maybe if I change providers, the kids will speak to me again

  • Surely dropouts are specific to the node youre on, not the provider?

I'm thinking about taking up the offer for cheap internet. I don't game online.

    • Nope, it is related to your provider too.

    • +2

It could be the node, the POI, your provider, your POP, your provider's backhaul. It could be authentication, DNS or routing.

      • I'm trying to understand this better.

Node & pop are unrelated to your provider?
Poi isn't an issue unless you have HFC or wireless or some kind of system change, therefore not related to your provider?
When you say provider, is that including anything different to providers backhaul, DNS and routing?
DNS and routing are part of your provider?

I'm kind of thinking it's worth risking telecube to see what I get, given its month to month anyway. I'm just not sure how likely it is to suck.. if it's really likely I'll just stay on ADSL for now. I feel like alot of the aggro against telecube here is based on hyperbole because two months ago nobody had anything bad to say about them. Their performance can't have degraded, surely…

        • +2

Performance never degraded, it was never good to begin with.

I signed up last October $69+69 setup 100Mbps, and all I did was ask dumb questions like does public dns work?
          why arn't websites loading,
why is my 100Mbps stuttering when trying to watch shows, the hosting server sucks.
is my phone/tv/PS4 wifi not good enough?
Do I need a new router?

Switch ISP and all my problems disappeared.

So I technically lasted up to April, paid the setup fee, and it costed me $79 a month for a shitty connection.

        • My point is dropouts can be caused by a large variety of issues. Some are provider based some aren't.

    • +2

      it's both.

Telecube had one last Friday night (~6pm-9pm) took out their customers only. I knew it was them as I was able to flick to my neighbour's Optus connection (same HFC NBN as us) and it was working beautifully.

if you need a cheap connection, it's a good option. just don't expect a rock solid connection.
if you don't need it for say work or have a backup 4G option, then go for it. Support is limited, but helpful.

  • +2

They charged everyone additional $16 for plan transfer when they did the price hike, I'm still waiting for refund.
They always have disconnection issues and speed during peak was terrible, their service desk is like non existent and will not reply to their emails unless you sent like 10
Will not sign with them again

  • Wow, lasting heard of Telecube they were the ISP of choice for ozB. Didn't know they had started fleecing people.

    • +1

      They remind me of roboguy.

    • That was part of the issue, when they first posted their service on here a few people started to say how they were comparable to Aussie bbs but cheap, myself and a whole bulk of ozbargainer likely moved to these guys lol.. big mistake.. price hikes.. shitty customer service/support and unreliable connection for streaming.. the worse…

I need a section for ozbargain fails- these guys are right up there with the roboguy

      • +1

Sorry i was one of the early supporters. I think they wwre a victim of their own success.

They really should stick to the Whirlpool crowd, as they need much less support, happy for some disruptions in return for a discounted price.

  • peak speeds were atrocious, price hike was disgusting.

    pay more for AussieBB instead.

    • You don't even have to pay more if you know that the inflated speeds and data won't get utilised.

  • +1

I was getting acceptable speeds on telecube, but the constant drops outs combined with no customer service on weekend really left a bad taste in my mouth. I could barely tolerate this at the cheaper rates, so when they raised the price by 20$ it made the decision to leave so easy.

  • I'm very happy with the service we've had with Telecube. Not using it for online gaming so I'm not sure about the pings. $69 seemed too good to be true, so I didn't really begrudge the price increase to $85 as long as reliability improved, which it has - its now working very well.

ABB wasn't reliable for us - we had several outages with them and due to the way they authenticate we had to do a ridiculous process of rebooting hfc "modem" and routers in the right order for it to start working again. It was frustrating and bewildering.

The way we authenticate with Telecube just works and I havent had to reboot the Hfc Nbn device since. So I'm not in any hurry to go back to ABB.

    • I had the complete opposite experience from you; ABB just works for me, whereas if I decide to power cycle my modem with TC it takes hours to reconnect and new routers don't even work??

I'm on FTTP and I asked TC to direct the service over to port one on the NBN provided NTD modem, believing that to be the issue, and they said I needed a better reason even though I went through all trouble shooting steps. Frustrating!

  • I am wondering who is the worst MR or them

    • I'd say MR, As annoyed with the price hike as I was with Telecube I new it was a month by month service with a isp I knew little about. I was on a plan with MR who kept bragging about how great they were in Singapore and NZ and they kept changing some of there core claims. eg. only one speed tier plan, to be the most competitive, lowest price etc.

Not to mention I found Telecube to be a much better connection then MR, I haven't tried any of the top end ISP though so I'm used to comparing the budget lines.

    • +1

MR were woeful during peak times. Switched to Telecube and they have been rock solid. Not sure why others are complaining, maybe they should check their own devices as well as Telecube don't provide any hardware.

      • What type of NBN in your area, is NBN just newly available?

      • Price hike, applied the speed change earlier than agreed, disconnected my nbn earlier than agreed, refund taking more than 30 days. Speed was fine but its not always about speed.

  • +2

Terrible customer service, I waited months to get a response to the constant drop outs and slow speeds. The only resolution was to switch ISPs and now my connection is great. Don't be sucked in by this lot.

  • +1

    More dropouts then skymesh

  • how to send a business into administration 101

  • If you want good customer service and uptime….. do not go with TC

  • +2

I moved to Telecube about seven months now and have had none of the dramas that others mention. Sure, I have had a few connections reset but honestly I didn't even notice. Perhaps it's because i'm on a FTTP connection, but here in Perth, I get pretty much my full speed all of the time (46/18 on a 50/20 connection) with pings in the 3-4ms range and 1ms of jitter. I've recommended to people at work who have had trouble free browsing and I'm moving my folks over. None of us are hardcore gamers or the like, mostly use the net for browsing and streaming. Had exactly zero issues with streaming 4K netflix. I'm not saying i've never had an outage, but they certainly are few and far between and I'd say over the last few months, further improvements have been made on that front too.

  • Is this 12 months since connection date or from today?
I'm still waiting for NBN to come. They've come to check my phone line so hopefully soon enough.

On a side note, the guy said once they've done the 2nd check connection should come soon but when I do address check it is still much longer. Any one has experience with this?

    Thanks.

  • +1

31 days and still no refund yet, had to contact tio. I'll keep on negging you until i receive my money. My… Money…

    • do a chargeback. It will also cost them $30 on top of what your refund.

      • I used paypal though but i've now raised dispute thanks to you

        • +1

Keep at them… I was emailing them daily, contacted them on whirlpool, it took a threat of a charge back to finally get my money back. 30 days later…

Based on that experience their so-so performance, and abysmal payment system I would never consider them again.

  • Why are these special deals only for your Telecube customers and not Siptalk?

  • +1

In case anyone's made it this fair and decided they still want a new reliable NBN ISP. The Aussie Broadband free month deal ends today
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/393406

    • Just talked with Aussie BB reps. you can stack refer a friend & free modem via the phone…ends tonight.

      • Very tempting. If only I could request it on 10 September.

        • You can. Up to 3mth out I believe

    • What I've found is, if you're not in any particular hurry, there's no need to jump on a deal expiring 'today'. Newer, better deals will pop up later just when you think you've missed out. Or rather, after you secured the deal that ended 'today'.

  • Is Skymesh any good these days? I'm tempted to see if they will plan match the 100/40 500GB Peak plan.

    • +3

God No I left Skymesh for Telecube, then left these guys for Aussie BB

      • But who will you leave ABB for?

        • -1

          Skymesh. Run it back.

  • +1

I can only talk from my own personal experience with Telecube that I joined in March last year.
Always very quick to get on top of any problem.
    Value for money is great.
I am able to stream 4K from UK or USA without any buffering every night.I am on 100/40 FTTN Queensland
Apart from early teething problems before they had there own POPs there were speed and connection issues.
    Up time is now excellent.
I have put 2 other people on to Telecube and no complaints from them.
I would highly recommend Telecube to any user with good computer skills.

  • +6

    Can't trust you, sorry.

You only get to make a first impression once, and you blew it.

I get that you're sorry and you misanticipated the reaction. Should have thought about it first.

You said you had to increase the price because the existing prices weren't sustainable. How are you going to make it sustainable this time? And if it truly wasn't sustainable, it should never have been offered in the first place. Instead you bait and switch, then went radio silent.

This price isn't even the price it was before you raised it.

  • How is the price promise work?

    • You have their word. But I don't think it's legally binding.

  • For what it is worth been with these guys since start of July nothing but great service and full uptime.

I think all the good support has been hogged up by me because I basically know the whole support team by now they have been great.

I could be an anomaly but for me they have been nothing but the best they have great no hidden fees only gripe is I wish they gave more data at these prices I might as well go unlimited with someone else on a 50/20 plan or 100/40 only an extra $10-20 but well worth it for unlimited otherwise if all you need is 1 to 3 terabytes go with them.. but I am a huge data hoarder and have unpredictable housemates so I need the unlimited high speed flexibility.

Right now am capping myself so I dont finish the 1000gb within the first week of the month. 3000gb is nice but at $50 I would rather go up to a 50/20 plan or 100/40 and just absorb that.. it is all about what you need.

Not sure what everyone else is complaining about I must have missed their bad period because I have only had one downtime and it was because I stuffed up the port request. Took few hours then up ever since.

    • +2

Full uptime and the whole support team know you. Wonder how that works…

      • I rather talk with the support team than my housemates true story.

    • +1

Great service? Their servive is email based…. give me another reputable ISP that only has email based support.

      • Honestly sometimes the anti social in me prefers email based and non voice communication but yeah what I was trying to say is they could be a lot worse. I guess my standards have just dropped a little bit lately due to recent life experiences but so far they have not been bad for me.

  • Telecube is terrible. The set up fee on there old plan in conjunction with a sizeable price increase a few weeks ago made the offer untenable.

Am with Mungi now and cant complain although ABB is the best of the premium providers.

  • Hi Rep

If I avail of this plan and Telecube cancels and offers new plan(within 1 year). Can I still avail this pricing if I change up or down within the year? Thanks

  • Voted down because you stiffed Siptalk customers too, but won't even give them access to these offers.

  • I'm in Brisbane. My username and password for the FTTN would not work intermittently. Had the issues approximately 5 times in 2 months. That's 5 times I was on the computer… It was probably more prevalent then I thought but I'm not always on the computer.

Worst system portal. You need a verification code sent to your email or phone in order to sign just to PAY your bill. Extremely frustrating.

I have moved to Exetel 12 month plan $59 for 50/20 Unlimited. Couldn't be happier. No drop outs, good payment portal. They have their own forums.

    • It's that exetel plan only 12 months how much do they charge after it

      • Don't think they increase unless the plan changes by then.

  • 12 month price promise - no price increase for at least a year

What can stop TC from increasing their prices within 12 months?
Is there any compensation to TC customers in case of a price increase within 12 months?

  • +2

You have lost the trust of your customer base.
People aren't that forgiving on bad business practices.

    • +1

Exactly, I joined due to the original great deal. But their performance left a bit to be desired, their web portal and payment system were atrocious, but was willing to stick with them due to the good price and supporting a small Aussie company. Then the bait and switch happened, this just feels like another bait. Just waiting for the switch……

      • +7

I actually think the company will not survive.

        • It will be the next Buzz Telco!

        • +3

The recent shemozzle of, 'we have to urgently increase our pricing', followed a month later by 'we made a mistake raising our prices', smacks of a company without a business plan and management flying by the seat of their pants. Meanwhile their payment system feels like it was built by an intern who'd never actually seen a working example of such and their support system reminds me of a 1990's bulletin board!

TC's marked improvement in Perth service quality has kept me loyal for now, but the company itself seems like a sorry mess that is destined for early failure.
