How long have you been using it?

      • +2

You've got to be frickin' kidding me with this comment.

        • -1

No. But you seem to be proving my point. It’s just my opinion. It’s ok.

  • +2

Great deal OP. Subscribed to this then turned off auto-renewal so I don't forget.

    • +1

Thanks for the tip about auto renewal. I will have forgotten to do it next February!

      • -2

        Now you can relax…

      • No worries, the site warns that you'll lose access to features, etc. But that doesn't happen until February, the wording is easy to misinterpret though.

    • Found out you can cancel the subscription through the website

This is a great deal, for anyone who wants to learn mediation, go for it.

      • Yoga moreso.

        • -8

          No need to be rude

        • -1

@jv: you think you're an online sensation don't ya

    • Is it better than Hemisync?

  • +1

Thanks OP, an excellent deal. Headspace is great for me and two of my kids.

  • +5

Paypal's conversion as of tonight turned out to be AUD$28.04 if anyone needs that info

    • Ahh man I'd feel better if it was $27.99

  • -4

Should they really be charging for this? I thought it was a government initiative. Shouldn't helping as many people as possible be more important than profits?

    • +21

Hey mate. You’re thinking of https://headspace.org.au

    • +4

Why do people open their mouth before even clicking on link to see what it is.

      • +8

Even after clicking on the link, I'm not sure what it is

  • +2

    will this help my anxiety

    • +10

It will help more than doing nothing about it

      • -2

Not really, spending $20 on something of undetermined worth is likely to cause more stress than not.

        • Can you please clarify your usage of the phrase 'undetermined wealth?' Please explain what you deem to have determined and objective worth.

    • +1

I have found it helpful. Trying it certainly will do no harm. Best of luck to you.

  • Tried to purchase but getting an error..

    • +1

      … Guru Meditation error?

      • And a flashing red screen?

  • +18

Should be mentioned that this has nothing to do with the Australian mental health organisation…

  • +5

thanks for this. Mental health maintenance is priceless.

This deal is a no brainer.

    • I like your thought process

Anyone tried this and the free Aware app that was posted here a while ago.
I use the Aware app daily and find it useful. Done three of the included courses so far.

    • I found the aware app useful at first but after a few weeks I find him kind of annoying with the full body scan

  • Cheers mate.

is a long time user able to give a serious review on headspace. what are the actual benefits. i understand the website says it has an 11% reduction in stress, however i would be interested to hear real world examples, thanks.

    • +6

sure mate, use(d) it among other apps/recordings so take it as a mindfulness/meditation review rather than headspace specific… part of recovery for panic and generalized anxiety disorder.

definitely has real-world implications even if you're not on the level of a disorder.. learn insights to the mind and thoughts and our caveman tendencies, and to become less reactive to all emotions, good and bad… a thought is just a thought, a feeling is just a feeling… they come and go all day long but no need to judge or react to them. more clarity and perspective towards one-self and other relationships (friends, workers/bosses, partners, kids) and situations

      • +1

thanks for that. out of curiosity, where do you listen to this? eg: driving to work, when you get home etc

im assuming you would need somewhere quite with on interruptions.

    • +1

I'm more interested how they came up with that 11% figure lol

      • +1

Yes and even then it doesn't seem terribly impressive for something that is $100/year.

      • +1

        It says 14% now.. Lol

Good question. And just to add to what Ozmian wrote, I think I like it over other similar apps etc because (and I know this is a little superficial) I just like the guy's voice. The narrator isn't doing a typical "meditation" voice. It's just an English bloke, talking. And you get a very genuine feeling that he actually cares about what he's saying. Try out the free 10 day program to see if you like his "sound".

      • dont be ashamed of liking it better than something else because of the guys voice. imagine if it was a voice that just irritated you. you wouldnt be able to actually concentrate on anything other than their annoying voice.

    • +1

There are supposedly long term benefits to meditation, one being increased gray matter in the brain where it counts. This is a link to a long PDF, but if you just CTRL+F "gray" you can get a general idea.

Basically increases in gray matter in areas of the brain that control things such as memory, learning and coordination and decreases in gray matter in areas of the brain that are associated with the release of stress hormones such as cortisol.

I've been trialling the app the past week and it's been good to be able to set aside a few minutes each day to just focusing on thoughts etc.

      • Not to be crude but I've read a study that porn increases grey matter in the brain as well…

        • That's why I said "supposedly". I myself am skeptical too of this kind of thing and think that further studies need to be conducted.

Silly question, but how do you get this offer? Going onto the page the only option I get is to sign up to a free account and then trying to purchase a subscription only has the normal prices :-S

    • +1

Use a mobile, tried on my phone and it worked, got an error while in Paypal but after refresh all ok. Checked website and subscription successful, $20USD for 6 months

Sign up for free then go to www.headspace.com/buy/summersale and you will get option to pay with credit card or Paypal

      • Yep, that worked. Thanks mate

  • Thanks, i have tried this and calm. I prefer calm but headspace is good too for this price

  • +1

Just tried this deal to add to my existing subscription. Doesn't work for that, just as an FYI to anyone else who wants to extend.

  • Does not seem to work for existing users.

  • OP, would be great if you could add some information about the service and clarify that this is not the mental health foundation funded by the Australian Government.

  • +1

EDIT: After doing further investigation, it seems the deal is 20 pounds, not US dollars! Unless I've been charged incorrectly, original post is incorrect.

Redeemed this deal, but got charged AUD $34.70! Not sure why, as current AUD/USD market exchange rate is giving me just a tad over $27 USD.

    • my paypal receipt says 20 USD

      • UPDATE - I got a refund of the difference from Headspace upon inquiring. They confirmed they had accidentally charged me 20GBP instead of 20USD.

  • Still too expensive.

I use Mediation Studio. It's great and consistently cheaper: $24 AUD per year - no honeymoon period www.meditationstudioapp.com/

This deal is not for existing subscribers. I contacted support and they said to please visit: www.headspace.com/code and use the code: SUMMERWELCOMEBACK
This works out to be $32.99USD for 1 year. Hope that helps someone.

    • How does it work out to be $32.99USD for a year? I still get the 6 months for US$20 offer when I use this. Keen to hear how you did that.

      • Are you a new subscriber?

        • I’ve got an existing account, that I’ve used previously with a trial subscription. I don’t think I’ve ever paid if that’s what you mean.

  • +2

There are many alternatives and some are definitely worth trying I think, if you can find cheap lifetime plans on for example StackSocial. I have made a bit of a study out of these and you can get Calm for free if you work in education as well: https://www.calm.com/schools and as mentioned, Aware has/had a free lifetime offering.

I have bought lifetime subscriptions for the following apps that I find quite useful:
    - https://www.aurahealth.io/ (https://stacksocial.com/sales/aura-premium-lifetime-subscrip…)
    - https://welzen.org/ (https://stacksocial.com/sales/welzen-lifetime-subscription)
    - https://mindbliss.com/ (https://stacksocial.com/sales/mindbliss-lifetime-subscriptio…)
    - https://www.brain.fm/ (https://picaxjqz.paperform.co/ 5th in the list)

No live deals that I can find currently, but good apps:

    • ty for the list!

I find Australian SmilingMind is as good as Headspace. I've been using both for sometime.

    https://www.smilingmind.com.au/smiling-mind-app/

    SmilingMind is a not-for-profit org.

  • Have been encouraged by friends for quite some time to give this a try. No excuses now - great share - thank you!

  • There are so many good mindfulness apps that you don't have to pay for

    • Can you list them?

  • Insight Timer is free

  • Convince me. What am I getting from Headspace opposed to all the free meditation/relaxation videos on YouTube?

    • Well as other posters have said the guys tone is amenable so that you prob won’t try one and get annoyed with it and then try another. Is all I can add.

    • You'll get some gamification (badges, progress rewards), offline ability and a much higher all round level of quality (selectable 3 - 5 - 10 - 15 - 20 min meditations), etc.

  • Does anybody know if I can stack this on top of my existing membership?

  • having issues trying to pay with Paypal, getting an error. Have cancelled previous active billing on Paypal still no dice.

    • Fixed it by adding a credit card temporarily. Then using Paypal to pay for the 6 months. Guess it reset the connection to Paypal.
