Samsung Galaxy Note 9 512GB + 200GB Data for $84/Month with Optus @ Harvey Norman (Regional Areas/WA Only)

2100

Went into Harvey Norman to sign up for the $105 100GB lease plan with Optus (+20% off pm when porting from another carrier), and was told about an even better plan which isn't being publicly advertised.

$145 My Plan Plus @ $105
-20% for porting to Optus @ HN = $84/Month.
24 month (non-lease) contract
200GB/Month
6GB roaming.
Unlimited Calls/TXT overseas in Zone 1.
Total plan cost ~$2016 ($84x24).

I was told it was a 'regional' plan, but apparently all of WA is considered regional.
Seems to be running at this price for the entire month of August, and can be stacked with the 20% off deal when porting to Optus at Harvey Norman.

Seems like an amazing deal for the 512GB Galaxy Note 9 with an RRP of $1799 (once the free upgrade from 128GB expires), considering you get to keep the phone at the end of the contract. Or sell the phone outright and you have 200Gb/month for cheap.

Original 20% off deal at Harvey Norman: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/395908

EDIT: Seems that this HN 20% deal may have been extended until the 26th Aug, however keep in mind that the free upgrade from 128GB to 512GB will expire when the phone is released on the 24th

        • @gasura: I was surprised, the Optus agent was asking for csb (account number??) number from vodafone. The SIM from voda was prepaid, I activated it last week. Was it the same thing with you?

        • @AirJordan23: Yeah you need the account number in order for the port to happen. You got a copy of the invoice of the phone? If not you could always call Vodafone to find out. I'm not sure if prepaid is possible though, try scrolling up, I think someone mentioned a Boost sim earlier.

        • @gasura: you mean both voda SIM you have were postpaid?

        • @AirJordan23: sorry didn't see this earlier. Yep but postpaid, one mine one my partner's.

        • @gasura: All good, managed to get it yesterday via Telstra. No case or wireless charger.

    • Got the Boost sim card from Woolworths not Coles*

      • I went to Woolworths to get Telstra

    • Dammit. I spent an extra 20c getting the Boost sim from JB hi-fi

Just realized we will only get the single sim version… Bit disappointing but probably not a big issue for most people. I was going to pop my old Telstra Prepaid Data sim for those times out in the country when you cant get Optus reception… Damn

Been using a dual sim phone for the last 2 years and it has been very handy especially when travelling. Yea with this international roaming most people wont need that but sometimes its handy to have a "local number" when staying longer periods… or if you going outside of "zone 1"

    • Oh damn.
      There goes my plans lmao.

    • Are you sure of this? From my understanding, Australia will be getting the dual SIM model too.

      • Telcos get the single SIM version while other retailers gets the hybrid

      • Just saw this ad in the paper

How to buy a dual-SIM Galaxy Note 9
At a media briefing in Sydney to launch the company's 2018 Galaxy portfolio, Samsung Australia's mobile chief Garry McGregor revealed to Australian Business Traveller that the Galaxy Note 9, which goes on sale on August 24 from $1,499, will be available in both single-SIM and dual-SIM models.

McGregor told Australian Business Traveller that while the conventional single-SIM Galaxy Note 9 would be supplied to telco partners such as Optus, Telstra and Vodafone, a dual-SIM version would be available through the 'open retail' channel where phones are sold outright to consumers.

Those Note 9s would see a 'hybrid slot' capable of holding either a microSD memory card (at up to 512GB capacity) or a standard nanoSIM card.

This will allow business travellers to keep their Australian number active while overseas in order to take incoming calls and text messages, while at the same time using a prepaid local SIM card for use by local contacts along with generous data allowances.

In the dual-SIM Galaxy Note 9, both SIM cards will be able to connect at 4G speeds rather than one being hobbled to 3G – indeed, the Note 9 can tap into turbo-charged '4G LTE' networks such as Telstra's 4GX and Optus' 4G Plus, to deliver download speeds as high as 1.2Gbps and upload channels of 200-300Mbps.

  • Will ineed to be residing in the regional area for this deal?
    Because i’m thinking,
If I get the plan from a regional harvey norman branch, but i’m currently residing in a non-regional postcode, can they still give me the deal as long as I get it from a regional branch of harvey norman

    • they check your driver license.

    • Fortunately they consider Perth metro "regional" too. Everyone I know managed to get the deal. Maybe their "urban" only applies to those living in the city itself.

      • 6000 works too :)

  • This is now marked as expired?
I was told yesterday at Harvey Norman that it was supposed to end on sunday but the deal was extended for another week…

  • This deal is extended til the 26th right?

  • This makes my Optus 200gb plan + Samsung Galaxy S9+ (128gb) for $123/m look silly…

  • Managed to get one, no complimentary case or wireless charger.

    • Doesn't it include one of those $1 clear cases inside?

      • I'm not sure if the clear cases are included.

  • What happens after the 24 month period is up? Do the discounts remain, or does it revert back to the original cost?

By that time same plan will give you 200tb with 5G speed, who in their right mind would continue to pay that much!

  • do anyone know when the device will be sent to your home? i really cant wait to get the device tomorrow.

    • I signed up today, i was told i could take the phone now by the optus rep….but they couldn't put it through their system at Harvey Norman until tomorrow!!! Grrrrr

        • @Alexander420: delivered this morning at 1030am, I will open it later.

        • @AirJordan23: Is the Optus Branded single sim one or the Hybrid sim one ?

        • @regenade: single on telco, if you buy it from other retailer store it will be hybrid. cmiiw.

For those that already have it, did it include a cheap case in the box?

    • +1

Turns out tv streaming is included as well as music. What a deal. I've ordered a ten buck data share sim and will be cancelling my home internet next month. Speeds are fine for what I use, with music and tv streaming, I'm spending 5 bucks less a month on internet and have a note 9. Hah. Thanks OP.

  • Has anyone received their first bill? Does it show $84 per month?

    • Not yet. My invoice confirms $84 per month though. I also received an email saying I'd activated a 20% discount

    • +1

I got my bill, 84 bucks.
